Me too. I’m sick of the games. I passed on a Lexus NX in favor of a Tesla model Y after trying to get the NX for over a year without success and even if I could get it, $5k worth of BS markups.
It’s funny I just sat here and I did all the math and then I want to go into comments to say that’s over like 900 bucks a month you beat me to the punch and no I would not pay that forthat little truck… that’s fucking stupid…
@@Chef-vg4pu While I agree the price is not worth it but Tacomas are actually bigger than they use to. I'd rather them be the same size as they use to.
Current avg. new car payment is over $700.00. Almost 20% of new vehicle loans feature a payment of $1,000.00 per mo or more. Quite a few people are making some really bad financial decisions. Average buyer with a trade is over $6,000.00 underwater.
A large portion of the economy is basically stupid people making bad decisions with money. Low rates and covid money just made people go completely insane.
I'm also hearing about engine reliability issues. The Tacoma somewhat, but the Tundra a lot. Meanwhile you can get an older Toyota that will run until the end of time for much less money. Maybe I'll just hang on to my old Tundra for a few more years yet.
Thry lost their mind selling worse trucks than ever for highest price ever. The auto industry sees us all as fools who need to be parted from our money
$1400 in doc fees is outrageous. Especially when you consider that it's totally unnecessary and a cash grab by the dealership. And that's literally what the market adjustment also is. And it's not like the dealership wouldn't make money by eliminating these fees. They'd still make a profit without them. Unreal.
Buying a car in Virginia is the worst! There aren’t any laws in Virginia that limits how much a dealer can charge for a doc fee. They can literally make it 100% of the car’s MSRP and no one can stop them. Maryland is located right above Virginia and it’s a night and day experience. Maryland has a lot of consumer protection laws, including a law that prohibits dealers from charging more than $500 in doc fees.
I like the exterior and interior of the new Tacoma. I hate the drivetrain and the msrp. Less cylinders for more money. Anything over $32k for this is a ripoff. How can you pay $46k plus for this and not feel absolute robbed driving off the lot. Yea, no thanks, hard pass.
@Dustedpages2 Yea, I've considered buying the Ranger Raptor, but I purchased a brand new S550 GT premium with the performance pkg. Absolutely hate Ford now. It's my 1st Ford and likely my last. It's OK now, but it sits in my garage collecting dust while I daily a Honda. Honda destroys Ford, GM and Chrysler's crap with far superior reliability and quality, but I hate the Ridgeline. Lol
Yes, it’s like putting a 9.9 hp outboard motor on a boat that’s rated for 15 hp. You’re going to be flooring it more and besides, the turbo has a lot more thermal stress under the hood. It’s just not going to last like a non-turbo V6. Personally, I would love to get a small V8.
That's what I thought also....until I drove the new Ford Ranger with a 4cyl. ecoboost. 270HP. It totally shocked me how much pickup speed it had. Now you can get the V6 Ecoboost with 315HP. That is way more HP and torque than you would need unless you were trying to tow an RV thru the mountains or something.
I got a 06 v6 4.0 with 250,000 still runs great no mechanical problems some electrical you won’t find a 4 banger like that they can’t take the strain and yes I know the 22r was the little engine that did but they don’t make it anymore but they even had overheating problems 🤷🏻♂️
The incredibly stupid prices are the result of our ignorant young buyers. Creditors will milk you for every cent they can. Stelantis didn't get the memo, and they're facing bankruptcy.
And now they are coming with a 2.4 liter four cylinder engine in a 4X4. I bought my 2020 TRD Sport 2 years ago and haven’t looked back. It has an actual power plant (V6 pushing 289 hp -stock). I paid just over $37K and wouldn’t take that now if someone offered it to me. I absolutely LOVE my Tacoma and have never regretted buying it.
In a world where your government is printing up 1 trillion dollars every three months…………not a Toyota problem a fiat curre problem These pickups are only 20 ounces of gold or .8 btc for the hard curr holders in the world
@@aeromedical6776 My cousin has the 2018 TRD. Best pick-up he's had, and he owned F150's and Frontiers. Frontiers are close to Tacomas, and I doubt he's crazy enough to spend 50K on a Tacoma. He knows where he can buy 3 of them for years 2016 - 2020, in top shape., at that price.
Probably leave that on there and be cool with pulling it off so you feel better about paying 50k for a truck. Like marking up a price 10% then throwing a 10% sale sign on it.
My brother had cash in hand to purchase his dream Tacoma 4x4.The dealer wouldn't budge on the "market adjustment." 4 weeks in, and he's loving his new FRONTIER.$1,200 OFF sticker.
He should have waited 4 weeks, because at least where I live, they're are some decent discounts going on right now. All at least $2000 under TSRP to start.
Twice I've been shopping for a new vehicle and told the dealer the starting point was MSRP - if they mention the dealer greed tax even once I walk. And I did. Luckily when you're shopping for something common like a yota (or my last one, a Silverado) there is always another dealer just down the road. A little harder when I'm shopping for a Rover or Alfa like I used to - at that point they know they are the only option and can stick to their guns more.
@@donhappel9566 I've owned 4 Toyotas and I walk if they don't upfront OFFER $2000 off of MSRP. There is always a deal to be found on a Toyota regardless of the model. There are like 5 dealerships in every city.
Add another 10 G for the TRD package. $10,000 for turning shiny parts into flat-black parts and plastering a decal that is one letter away from spelling turd on the side. Plus, they're doing away with the venerable 3.5L and going to a turbo 4cyl that will last half as long as the proven 3.5L
I paid $1,500 for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee in 2017. It now has 222,000 miles on it and still going strong. I'm never going to pay dealer prices and scam "Document fees" again.
Just met a guy who bought the new Tacoma TRD sport. He said he took delivery on a truck that had countless mechanical, cosmetic issues problems and defects. It was so bad the dealer bought it back from him no questions asked and got him into another one. Well that one has issue too. A rattle coming from the back right door, the black molding on the truck bed not secured, and the clear coat was damaged on one side of the truck bed.
tell him to watch the frame like a hawk for rust ... I saw a 2020 with massive frame rust don't believe them when they say they've fixed the problem ... I think they figured out that it causes people to come back and get a new one ... don't fall for it
Best thing to do at that dealership, is Drive off the lot with your old vehicle. Do not EVER do business with a Dealership that has " Dealership Markup Fees" ! Ever ! If you want to, tell the salesperson Why you are not buying from them. These places make me want to stay there and tell anyone else dumb enough that comes to buy a vehicle to go someplace else .
It's not just the markups like the $3995 on this Tacoma that people should refuse to pay, but the out of control "doc fees" that dealers are adding on to boost their profits. People finally realized years ago not to pay for add-ons like rustproofing or paint protection, but now they throw away hundreds just to have a dealer write up a sales order or process paperwork for a loan? F*** that shit!
They stay in business because of 1. Toyota only zealots. 2. stupid consumers, they either pay those stupid dealer add on's or the dealer takes off the "market adjustment" and they end up paying full sticker thinking they got a deal.
There is no way anyone should be paying a market adjustment. Find another dealer. Let this one starve. I just saw an SR5 4wd with the upgrade package for sale for $42k with no markup. The msrp was $45k.
@@endlessnameless3996 Id disagree, 42k for a 4x4 sr5 with a package is very competitive. Id like to find that unicorn. I wonder if that dealer had some hidden pricing, I bet they did. A frontier SV 4x4 with the tech package is right in there about 42k.
The only reason the dealer is adding that market adjustment is because they can, they won't starve because there's a lot of fools out there paying these prices. It's buyer's fault.
@@epbrown01 Why give the market adjustment to the dealer? It's your money, not the dealers. Even if you are correct regarding your trade-in adjustment, and I saw no reference to that adjustment, $4K-$4K = ZERO for you. I would never pay MSRP for any vehicle.
@@epbrown01 Don’t forget the $1,600 administrative fee you charge to write/sign a check. If they want to be reimbursed for their administrative costs to sell a vehicle, then they should expect buyers to be reimbursed for our administrative costs to purchase a vehicle. In 2022 I called every dealership in Southern California looking for a Tacoma V6, 4x4, Double Cab with 6' bed; and, the few that did have it, wanted a $6k markup. So I bought a GMC canyon, instead. It has more horsepower and torque than the Tacoma and I got it for $42.5k instead of the $45k plus markup they wanted for those Tacomas. Don't be a Simp, don't give your money away, and don't get into bidding wars.
The people that need them still have them. My 2000 Ranger hauls everything I need it to for my business. I paid $4,500 for it and I have had it for 14 years. So that is $321/ year. To buy a new truck from a dealer for $50,000 you would have to somehow keep it for 155 years to get the same rate that I pay. This new stuff is for people who like to think they are smart for buying something with a "high resale value".
Sadly, the brand new truck is a status symbol for most people! And they can put in on social media for a bunch of "likes" and call themselves "content creators" That status symbol can cost up to $1000 dollars a month.
*in Carl's voice* ''Hey doofus, when your dealership is overflowing with trucks and suv that aren't selling, that means you don't market adjust the price. Jackass.''
Overpriced by $10,000. ALOT MORE PLASTIC. And a turbo 4 cylinder.......NO THANKS. I'm a Tacoma man. But the Nissan Frontier feels more like the next Tacoma.
@@conecrazyI would stay away from any GM with active fuel management or dynamic fuel management or whatever they call it now. Nissan will outlast them for sure.
The plan is to make personal transportation a luxury of the rich again. By price inflation and environmental over-regulation. They want the plebs walking or riding the bus, so they can keep an eye on us.
In 1998 I paid $18k for a new SR5. Glass headlights, tailgate that could hold a lot of weight without bending, simple and straightforward inside and out. Those were the days.
I had the frames rot out of 2 different T0T0TA Tacomas ... ! A 1998 @ 88K and a 2008 @ 147K . Both with completely rust free bodies . I'm presently driving a used 2006 T0Y0TA Avalon "Limited" with just over the 100K on it ... !
That's crazy! I bought a new Tacoma two years ago (2022 model). It's a really basic model, 4 cyl. 2WD, 6 ft. bed (so no back seat), but still has all the features I need. I paid around $26K for it. Now they're going for twice that?!?! Unbelievable.
Most truck buyers are mechanically inclined and don’t want a high strung turbo 4 cylinder. I typically keep my vehicles way past 200k miles to get my moneys worth. And they don’t get that much better gas mileage to justify the complexity.
What do you mean high strung? If you mean RPM's, then, no. My Ranger has the 2.3L4 Turbo. RPMs at 75 MPH are around 2K, Sure, higher than a V8, but nowhere near the RPMs of 4 bangers in the past that had RPM at 3K at 60MPH.
@@jbrou123 High strung, over stressed, take your pick. I would rather have a V6 with less power than your turbo 4. We’ll see how happy you are after 200k miles.
Part of the issue is emissions regulations. The engineering tricks they come up with to try to meet those standards drives up the price due to all the electronics they need to install for emissions control.
I agree. Today's trucks have all the extra features that luxury cars had years ago that I don't need or want in a truck. And all the small trucks today have tiny beds that make them useless to even haul 10 ft long lumber for a DIY homeowner.
After test driving some other makes, I bought my third new Taco on Monday, traded my SR5, got a decent discount and got a new 2024 TRD Off Road and I'm loving it. The dealer I was at sold 5 or 6 vehicles during the 3.5 hrs. I was there.
I bought a new Pro 4x in Jan, 2021. It was the end of the previous body style but came with the new 3.8L engine/9-sp transmission. It was fully loaded in Cayenne Red and gray leather interior. I paid $36k for it. I no longer needed a pickup and wanted more interior room, so I traded if for an Acura MDX last year. I think I got $32k for my trade-in. It was a damn good truck.
I bought a leftover 2023 Honda Ridgeline brand new 3 months ago and I got 2.9% financing from Honda and they knocked $3,000 off sticker because it was last year's model and it's a great vehicle it rides good it's roomy and does everything I wanted to do for under 40K
First, it is under 40k though, meaning it is about 40k for 2023 model. 2024 frontier Pro 4X is right at 42-43K with rebate and negotiation with better power and drive train and it is 2024. Secondly, it is a ridgeline, if you are wanting suv with a truck body then yes you will love ridgeline, but if you are a truck guy, Ridgeline is a fake truck TBH!
Ridgelines are for modern, yuppie-types who want to feel manly so they gravitate to a sissy-looking unibody SUV that happens to have an open bed. Even the wimpy Ford Maverick, in spite of its own unibody construction, looks more masculine.
That's what I've done with 24 of the 26 vehicles I've purchased in my lifetime! Only financed 2, but never again! Unless your a millionaire, buy used for cash, repair when needed, own it outright !
I’ve bought my wife a new Honda and I took her old Volvo XC 90. 12 years old. I just dumped two grand into a car that’s worth 4 grand and I don’t care.
I turned 18 in 1972 and bought my first car. A new Chevy Impala for $2,400. My fist house (3bed,2 bath) for $27,000. Things seemed a little more in sync with real life back then. Today's prices are crazy.
I had to walk out of a deal for a 2024 4x4 SR5. MSRP $42899. The dealer insisted on pushing too much in add-ons. Windshield package for $799, Summit package $2599, Tire and Wheel BS $499.plus a dealer fee of $699. They weren’t going to budge. Left my car in their lot, walked across the street to the Nissan dealer and bought a Frontier Pro4x for $42400 out the door. Nissan is dealing and want to reduce inventory. I got a good deal a Nissan. Hoo rah.
Nissan is built in Ms and 85% of the parts are US made. Tacos are Hencho en Mexico and $10k more than a comparable Pro4x Frontier. Looked at a Pro4x in Dallas and was $7000 of sticker with 2.9% Nissan financing
Looking at a frontier 4x4 SV with a long bed. Stickers around 41k. Although the dealer has kept putting on bump stickers with $8k adj since Covid I can’t think they would actually try to get that in this market. I would actually expect a healthy discount. Question is does anyone think the discounts will get better as the year progresses? I would assume so as long interest rates stay where they are. As inventory piles up something has to give.
Loved my 1967 chevy CST that had a 327 in it. Co8l over suspension, factory bucket seats and then a set of radial truck tires and it rode like a dream. Bought it used in 1986 for $1300 and drove it for 10 more years. Just a nice truck.
I would never patronize a Dealer that charged over MSRP…. Don’t buy anything there. As someone who was in business for 40 years if you can’t survive working off of retail, you shouldn’t be in business in the first place! Simply taking advantage of the people that “have to have”. Ridiculous.
I would not pay MA. I was at a deaalership in Atlanta looking at a 4RUNNER. They had one price on the sticker , started to talk out the door price, dude leaves for a few minutes, come back with a other price- yeah he added 5k , said nope and walked out with dude in tow. ridiculous toyotas are not all that...
When I think of a small truck, the idea of a small V6 or 4 cylinder with a manual transmission comes to mind. What Toyota and Nissan are offering is ludicrous… you may as well buy a full size truck with a v8
If anyone made one like that and has a full size bed for $20k I might consider it, keeping in mind the out the door cost would be at least $5k more for taxes and fees.
$50k for that SR5 is highway robbery 😂 I paid $50k for my 2024 4Runner ORP. Tons of features, no dealer mark up, and no dumb 4 banger turbo. My local dealership had 27 Tacomas sitting on the lot. They said they had almost no inventory, they didn’t even have one Camry. Yet they had 27 new Tacomas. They can’t sell them.
The worst part is they will blame inflation and some people are dumb enough to fall for it. This is just flat out price gouging. I remember when a brand new base model Tacoma was 12-14k and then dealers found out that everybody wanted one so they started marking up the prices over the years. This wasn't even that long ago either. Like 12-15 years ago. There's no way in hell we've had a 500% increase in inflation over the past 15 years yet they are still using that lie because people will still fall for it. It's high time people stop buying new cars altogether for at least a few years so we can crash the market and get car prices back down to reasonable.
I got my 2022 TRD Sport 4wd quad cab for $48,000 total. No dealer markup, I made calls and found a dealer 50 miles away that didn't do markup. Put half down in cash, 2.8% interest. I'm happy.
I was just at Priority and they had only one available and they wanted 5k over msrp. I got one $1500 under msrp and love it. The engine is fabulous, lots of power and I got 24.9mpg today.
That's great, but... I recently bought a new F150 XLT Supercab 5.0 4x4 for 46k. Plus, it has a 6.5ft bed, all aluminum body and my V8 gets 22+ on the highway all day long... thats calculated at the pump btw. These Tacoma prices are just ridiculous. The extended cab Tacoma doesn't even have rear doors to access what's behind the front seats!
I went to a Ford dealership in California on Highway 101. The dealer had 1,438 Ford pickups for sale. They were priced to sell. $10,00 to $12,000 less than any other Ford dealership and they told me they were selling about 30 trucks a day. Yes I bought one.
I have been a car salesman for 5 major dealerships over the years. The best vehicle to buy is one that is 2 or 3 years old. They suffer the highest percentage of depreciation the first few years, and the bugs have usually been pretty well worked out by that time.
I got a 2015 Tacoma in 2020 30,000 miles, used 1 owner like new for $24,500. I'm glad I bought it. It will be my last vehicle. These trucks new are outrageous. I could probably sell it right now for what I paid for it.
I’m in Southern California and just purchased a 2024 TRD Off-Road for $47k (it also came with the TRD OFF-Road upgrade package which includes the 14” screen, heated seats, and some other stuff) before taxes and licensing. It took a lot of negotiating, but ended up getting it done. I purchased it at Claremont Toyota. They are overflowing with 2024 Tacomas, which is why I was able to get the deal. MSRP was around $50k, but dealer wanted $54k in mark-ups like window tinting, paint protection, etc. I refused to pay all that and they ended up going down to $47k after matching the Costco auto buyers program. If you’re ever interested in a Toyota and live is SoCal, go to Claremont Toyota and ask for Marco. He hooked it up.
Add to this Dynamic Price the fact it has a 2.4 L turbo 4 Cylinder Engine. Makes 276 HP, but at sacrifice is an engine runs hotter and destroys Oil!!! My Dollar have to wait after few years to see if this is viable combination????
I'm just picturing the salesmen looking at you filming their trucks from the sales office like, "look at this fine gentlemen filming our trucks to hype them up for his RUclips Channel."
You can't reduce cost (move production to Mexico), remove engine options (and put one in no one wants), and expect people are going to be chomping at the bit to buy them.
I bought my 2006 Tacoma SR5 V6 longbed for $26,500 out the door (tax, license, delivery fee, etc…). Once everything is added up these 2024 trucks will run you over $50k + financing. It’s been a very reliable vehicle, it tows up to 6500 lbs (4000 lbs is a good max if you don’t want the truck to struggle too much), and it seats up to 5 people. All of the bells and whistles added in 18 years + inflation doesn’t justify it doubling in price. It’s a great midsized truck, but even I wouldn’t buy another one at current prices.
I’m currently driving a 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4 door with a canopy, 170 k miles. It looks good and performs flawlessly. If, or when it ever wears out I’m certainly buying another one.

Turbo charged motors are not reliable long-term and 300k reliability and high resale value are one of the main selling points of Toyota. Also, who wants turbo-lag on a truck? Turbos are no good for low RPM work, like offroading and tow/hauling (basically all the stuff trucks are meant to do.)

Yup this is why I am in the market for one of the new Generation Nissan Frontier's the new generation looks great and has great reviews when compared to the new tacos
I'm proud of my 1980 with the SR5 trim. Well worn but the graphics are still holding on to the paint. And the rest of it is fine also. It was equipped with dual gauges for charging and oil pressure. Even has the face plate for adding an AC switch for after market dealer install. And has a factory tachometer to boot. And an AM/FM radio. (wooopie!)
They are still composite. It's another rip off. I had an argument with someone on Facebook that you need bedliner to protect plastic. Yes people are that stupid.
setting the price aside, I'm still leery of the reliability of an overly complicated under powered turbo charged, direct injected 4 cylinder engine. the old venerable naturally aspirated 6 cylinders were good for +300k miles if well maintained. these new engines I'd only expect 100K before a major repair was needed..
I picked up an SR trim 4x4 double cab with the manual transmission with no add ons and no bs dealer markups. Sticker was $38,550 and OTD was around $41. I’ll agree that they’re overall way more expensive than the outgoing generation but it seems to be overlooked that the 2024 is better equipped in standard base model form than the 16-23 was. I paid the same amount for a 22 trd sport but my new SR has several features that the trd sport did not. Would I pay $50k for an sr5? Hell no! But I’m happy with a 4x4 manual that’s not stripped down to nothing for $41k
@@KyleRattay Not true. That pertains to the detuned version of the SR. The manual SR has the same power output as the manual trd trims thus the same towing capacity.
Time was when the main reason people bought pickup trucks was because they were inexpensive transportation. Two doors, a bench seat and a bed in the back for hauling things. Now nearly every pickup out there is a crew cab, with all sorts of luxury items and nanny features that add on to the price. I guess a lot of people have a lot of money to piss away, judging by how many of these $50K and up pickups I see on the road. It's up to everyone to decide what to do with their own money, but personally I refuse to buy anything with a dealer markup on it. I think we'd all be better off following the example of billionaire Warren Buffett, who drives a 10 year old Cadillac. He's got enough money to be able to drive whatever he wants, yet he's smart enough not to waste a lot of money on a depreciating asset. It's always the people who don't really have a lot of money but want to present an image to their friends and neighbors that go out and buy ridiculously overpriced vehicles.
A little over a decade ago, I asked my father why many coworkers had relatively expensive new cars while I was driving a 20 y/o Oldsmobile. His answer was "It's because they have debt, but you have wealth!"
Bullseye. "Market Adjustments" by this dealer are pure greed. There's no longer any shortage of Tacomas or Tundras. Hence why the dealer is burying them in the back of the lot to "hide" that fact.
I traded my Tacoma a year ago, and I took the headrest out and floor rests prior to going on lot, they never noticed it. When I asked for the market adjustment to be removed I and they said no, I smiled. 2 days later they called for the headrests which were not present at the time they gave the price. I sold them back for the refund of the market adjustment. Play the game along with them, it’s fun.
I had every intention of buying a 2024 SR5. Cash. However, I neither need nor want 4WD. If I had it, I would never use it. As it turns out, I can't buy one that's 2WD. 4 different dealerships here in Maryland, as well as Toyota themselves, have told me. I can't order the one I want, I can only buy from what's "allocated" here. And the only thing allocated here is 4WD models. I just want a simple 2WD SR5 w/ upgrade. I'm retired, I'll never need to drive in the snow. I don't do off-road. Buying a 4WD would mean paying extra in initial price, pay in reduced gas mileage, pay in increased maintenance, all for something I'll never use. And the ridiculous things is I'm driving my fourth one in a row. All 2WD, all bought here in Maryland. Now, apparently, I'll have to go cross country to get one. Or just buy something else. After 20+ years of driving Tacomas. It's like Toyota doesn't want customers anymore.
@@buckdashe2571 Biggest reason, I'm now retired. I'd kind of like to go into my retirement with a new truck. One not driven 50-60 miles, one way, to work every day for years. I just really never imagined it would ever be this difficult to buy a vehicle. Particularly with no financing involved. Emails from Toyota dealers saying to come in and "custom order" what you want. We are in our early 30s. We went to purchase outright out $36,842.60 truck in cash. They were acting like and talking to us like we couldn’t afford the truck. What they were pissed about was that we weren’t financing the truck. We were trying to negotiate a fresh set of tires on the truck. When I say these tires were bald I’m saying I could see the steel belt in the tire. The fact that they were trying to sell a truck at that price that wouldn’t have passed an inspection really set me off. Everyone trying to sell a turd always shines it up and puts fresh rubbed under it to make it seem like some kind of gem. We haven’t had our truck for a whole year but we put miles on. 62k and we haven’t had it a year yet. We needed a truck right then and there and we were taken advantage of. Granted the economy was different then, but I bought my first Tacoma on 1996 for $9,999 plus tax & license. Small, simple, reliable. It was one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. $50k for today’s version of the same vehicle is insanity.
That's why in 2019 when I was shopping for a used Tacoma I ended up buying a one-owner used Frontier (4WD, 6spd, V6) for way less than an equivalent used Tacoma. I'm very happy with the Datsun.
My first Toyota was a 1985 4wd SR5. Thats the only name it had. I got it in 86 with almost 9,000 miles, great looking and driving. I remember this because I never dreamed I’d own such an expensive vehicle. It was $10,000 😂. I still love my Toyotas, I’m on my 3rd 4runner,2019
@@saywhatnow57 You just made my point for me. Tell me where I can get a basic 2 door, 2wd manual trans Tacoma with a bulletproof 4 cylinder that will go 500k in 2024. Add “reasonably priced” to that. Hard to compare apples to apples when all they make now are overpriced oranges.
@@woodystube1000 You're the one that said $50k for the same vehicle, but my point is that it's not the same. But with that said, I'm pretty sure this is the reason we're getting trucks like the Maverick, and soon the Toyota Stout.
Even at the $40K base price on the factory sticker that's a lot for a standard mid-size pick-up truck. I saw something similar at my local dealership, while getting some parts for my Tacoma. A 4WD TRD Sport with 'access' cab and 6-spd manual trans was $55K on the factory window sticker, the dealer tacked on $4K in useless overpriced accessories and a $5K market adjustment, so that's $64K before taxes/registration. Who's buying these things? I'd love to get a 2WD crew cab with short bed, but not at those prices. My 16 year old 2WD Tacoma Access cab still runs great, I'll keep it a while longer.
I remember the old really aggressive car ads on TV. One of the ads that ran all the time in my area was a guy who screamed "price sells cars!". It sure does. I remember when most cars were under $20,000. And you could get quality for that price, too. Everything is crazy now.
What’s up with these new pickups truck with short beds? Why is that? Aren’t pickup 🛻 trucks supposed to be useful for such as a thing like loading with stuff. What happened?
Used to be that your truck came standard with an eight foot bed. Now it’s extra. The SUV is what killed the American truck. To many people trying to look tough but are soft in the middle.
Hard to find a long bed these days, let along a standard short (6.75'). Even worse, a decent payload. In the 70's the little toy trucks would haul a ton.
I'm a Toyota guy but let them ROT! crazy prices and mark ups. Dealers need to learn the hard way people!

Me too. I’m sick of the games. I passed on a Lexus NX in favor of a Tesla model Y after trying to get the NX for over a year without success and even if I could get it, $5k worth of BS markups.
Toyota do away with dealerships and allow customers to buy directly through them. Eliminate the middleman. Like Tesla.
50k, at 7 percent interest, for 60 months, puts your payment at like 900 bucks. BEFORE INSURANCE. So over a grand a month. For a basic truck. NO WAY.
It’s funny I just sat here and I did all the math and then I want to go into comments to say that’s over like 900 bucks a month you beat me to the punch and no I would not pay that forthat little truck… that’s fucking stupid…
Now 9% interest
@@Chef-vg4pu While I agree the price is not worth it but Tacomas are actually bigger than they use to. I'd rather them be the same size as they use to.
Current avg. new car payment is over $700.00. Almost 20% of new vehicle loans feature a payment of $1,000.00 per mo or more. Quite a few people are making some really bad financial decisions. Average buyer with a trade is over $6,000.00 underwater.
Better put a serious down payment on that.

Thats right,I"ve got a 2012 v6 rav4,great,simple engine,265 hp-FAST!

And the price difference is surprisingly small. These entry level trucks are insanely expensive.
If anyone made one like that and has a full size bed for $20k I might consider it, keeping in mind the out the door cost would be at least $5k more for taxes and fees.
Har. What V8 you gonna buy now?? There aren’t many left. Dodge, Ford, Toyota… all V6. Oh. You could buy a Chev. Fill yer boots bud.
$50k for that SR5 is highway robbery 😂
I paid $50k for my 2024 4Runner ORP.
$50k for a small truck? How about $15k for a simple small truck? Keep these, too much. First Nissan Hardbody truck I bought cast $9k. This is insane.
I got my 2022 TRD Sport 4wd quad cab for $48,000 total. No dealer markup, I made calls and found a dealer 50 miles away that didn't do markup. Put half down in cash, 2.8% interest. I'm happy.
That grill area looks like a nightmare to clean when all those pockets and crevices get full of dirt and insects .
I don't get these designs at all. What happened to nice clean lines on a vehicle? All these plastic grill pieces look cheap and ugly.
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712guarantee it’s not new
My best MPG for my 22 Frontier 4x4 V-6 driving smartly has been 27.4 mpg.

Can toyota go back and make the standard cab 2 door? Can the big 3 do that also?
I went to a Ford dealership in California on Highway 101. The dealer had 1,438 Ford pickups for sale. They were priced to sell. $10,00 to $12,000 less than any other Ford dealership and they told me they were selling about 30 trucks a day.
Yes I bought one.
I have been a car salesman for 5 major dealerships over the years. The best vehicle to buy is one that is 2 or 3 years old. They suffer the highest percentage of depreciation the first few years, and the bugs have usually been pretty well worked out by that time.
thank you for confirming what i have thought for a few years now.
They also won’t suffer too badly if the first owner skimped on maintenance.
Can they be disabled remotely? Might want to research that.
I got a 2016 tundra extra cab 4x4 TRD for $39k in December of 2015, now my exact truck is $78,000. I thought mine was expensive, ugh-prices!, lol
Holy SHEEEET!!!
I paid 42K in Canada for a cement 2018 Tundra TRD Off-road. That would e like 35K U.S.😮😮😮
Think about 8 years from today ?
I got a 2015 Tacoma in 2020 30,000 miles, used 1 owner like new for $24,500. I'm glad I bought it. It will be my last vehicle. These trucks new are outrageous. I could probably sell it right now for what I paid for it.
2012 tundra 4x4 trd with tow package for 32,000. I'm still driving it. Screw toyota
I’ll keep my ‘22 Tacoma SR5 V6 Access Cab that I purchased for 28k w only 2800 miles and is now almost paid off. 50k for a Tacoma SR5 trim is insane.
I recently put $4000 into my '98 F150 4x4 Lariat, which I bought new. Well worth the investment - and I'm not afraid to use it like a truck.
You can't reduce cost (move production to Mexico), remove engine options (and put one in no one wants), and expect people are going to be chomping at the bit to buy them.
You know they have been built to n Mexico for a decade
@@ericvolkman1490 And they used to be much cheaper with a V6!
@jeanclaude7018 Because a Frontier will never last as long as a Toyota; crappy resale value too 😂
@jeanclaude70182015 Frontier, 100k miles, 0 problems
Toyota is self-destructing by offering only turbo charged motors for their Tacomas, Tundras and 4Runners... PERIOD!
Hey everybody, he said "PERIOD"!!!
That means all discussions should end and nothing else can ever be debated on the subject.
@@reichpanzer2418he is correct. I dislike Toyota in general. They are not bad by any means but no Toyota has ever been impressive to me. They imo have always been middle of the road. But I at least in the Taco's case, they have been proven to be reliable. A turbo 4 can NEVER be as reliable as a NA 6.
And why, exactly, would that be?

For the first time in 20 years, I'm passing on the Taco for a Nissan Frontier. Nice, solid NA V6 for a good price.
I've bought a lot of new cars. "Market Adjustment" to me means, get one at the dealer down the road that doesn't play that horseshit. Guess they want to go out of business, especially now when sales are already in decline and inventory is higher than 2/3 years ago.
Yup this is why I am in the market for one of the new Generation Nissan Frontier's the new generation looks great and has great reviews when compared to the new tacos
I wish they made a nissan 5sp long bed.
(wooopie!)
2009 SR5 Prerunner. Love it. Best part. Been paid off for over 10 years.
Spray on liner…are they not composite anymore?
I have a 21 fully loaded Off Road long bed, my out the door price was $42k, $13k more for a 4 cylinder stripped down SR5? Hahahahah nope!
My lawnmower can tow more than a munual sr only 3500lbs lol what a shame
His answer was "It's because they have debt, but you have wealth!"
those overpriced pickups have become "masculinity badges".
@@edwil111 ...for the insecure.
Find yourself a good used vehicle. New vehicles are overpriced. Let someone else take the financial hit on the depreciation of a new vehicle.
If they aren’t selling then why the market adjustment fee? I understood the market adjustment fee was to compensate for high demand.
Why are they not selling? Two reasons: 1. PRICE, 2. No V-6 engine option.
Bullseye. "Market Adjustments" by this dealer are pure greed. There's no longer any shortage of Tacomas or Tundras. Hence why the dealer is burying them in the back of the lot to "hide" that fact.
I wouldn't buy it even with your money!!..............
My ‘87 2wd only has 220K miles. Paid off decades ago. Why buy new?
@@buckdashe2571 Biggest reason, I'm now retired. I'd kind of like to go into my retirement with a new truck. One not driven 50-60 miles, one way, to work every day for years. And, one with newer electronics in the dash.
I'd also like to pass the 2015 I"m presently driving on to a grandson. Can't do that until I replace it.
I just really never imagined it would ever be this difficult to buy a vehicle. Particularly with no financing involved. Emails from Toyota dealers saying to come in and "custom order" what you want. Apparently, as long as it's not a Tacoma. Because everyone, including Toyota themselves, has told me I can't. It's like they are actively driving me away as a customer.

@@brolinofvandarmy fiancée and I went into a dealership here in Pennsylvania to buy a 2019 Tacoma sr5 4x4. It serves our needs (we do sitework construction) 4x4 is not our issue. Side note. My 1995 F250 with the legendary 7.3 is still chugging away at 500k miles. I can turn wrenches and know that truck in and out, I can service everything on it and parts are a plenty. Oh and they made millions of them. I notice the truck shown has a spray on bed liner. Whatever happened to ToughBed, found on my 2012 Tacoma.

The configuration of trucks most people want to buy are the crew cabs with the short beds, so that’s what the manufacturers make the most of.
Hard to find a long bed these days, let along a standard short (6.75'). Even worse, a decent payload. In the 70's the little toy trucks would haul a ton.
Aside from the price, I’d never trust the reliability of a turbo 4 cylinder. I’ll keep my v6 2023 off road 4x4.
It depends on who built it, and how hard you're planning on driving it.
Always wanted to hearxa person from VA. Reviewing cars most people review from other states thank you
