Guys I enjoy all your videos but since this the last year of the Nissan Titan can you do a Titan Grand finale; ex 1st gen Titan vs 2nd Gen Titan vs XD Gas vs XD Cummins. All are different trucks and do a full comparison. MPG, power, comfort, towing, payload, utility, best all around!! Thank you
What about the recent issues with the Tacoma Transmissions and top cap in the suspension? How many miles were on the Tacoma when you made the towing test ?
3rd gen Tundra prices are dropping fast. They are running back to the 2nd gen. Toyota fans will settle and pay so much money for obsolescence. The price difference in MPG and initial cost is usually enough to buy a new engine or transmission in another brand.
You should have kept this until the transmission fails....There seems to now be an issue with the rear ends and transmissions..Manual and auto transmissions.....and no transmissions to be had for the time being.
Well, it is just sad that it broke under conditions that did not seem unusually harsh for off road use. And of course, the Chevy that was on the same trail was unfazed by those conditions. Every one has been expressing concern about the longevity- or lack thereof- of the turbo 4 banger. But that is not what broke! It was the front dif actuator. So the question I still have is: Is this part changed from the previous years of Tacomas and 4Runners(if the same part in both)? Has that part been weakened? Or, is the higher torque rating too much for it? Because I have never witnessed one of those breaking, even when Truck King was thrashing a 4Runner while breaking thru ice to get to the mud. If the part has not been weakened to save a few ounces, or if it is the same part and is able to handle the increased torque, then it is possible that this breakage was just a fluke, a bad part 1 in a thousand. But how can we know? If the part was weakened or it is the same old part but not up to the increased torque, then will Toyota immediately beef up the part? If so, how can we know? Because except for that breakage and the lack of rear leg room, the truck seems quite nice. Though I realize the engine change is not popular, the MPG was impressive and towing seemed pretty good, and comfort much improved. I wonder if anyone else has broken a front dif part? Particularly if adding larger tires?
That depends; - If you are researching to buy the Tacoma, Toyota will tell you it is one-in-a-million and that they beefed up the part and QA so every truck will now be better than all of their competitors. - If you own the truck (without running a multi-million subscriber RUclips channel) and are concerned, Toyota will tell you the part meets all specs as is and your off-road use has voided the warrantee and caused it to break, which you need to pay out of pocket. Oh, and it weakened the rest of the truck too, so no more warrantee. You can of course fight it in court, assuming you have 3 years and half a million to cover your legal fees to do so.
The real question is that how much is getting a aftermarket upgrade to the diff going to cost compared to taking it to the dealer. If you are off roading at least in my opinion you shouldn't expect factory off road parts to last very long.
@Hybris51129 But you would think factory powertrain components that are included in an "off road" trim should be able to handle anything in actual off roading situations short of blatant abuse. TFL wasn't even pushing the truck that hard when the front diff blew up.
@@alexandersheppard1997 You would think but bare in mind of say a 1000 Ford Raptors for example how many will actually see off road use at all? If you are willing to play the numbers that gives the bean counters room to start making cuts because how many people will never know the difference? In this case maybe Toyota lost on the TFL truck but for all the tens of thousands they will sell what is 1, 10, 50, or 100 trucks that end up with a broken diff.
The thing with the prices we pay is that most don't understand where they come from. It's as easy as looking into Consumer price index vs Producer price indexes and doing some math.
Toyota has turned into a major disappointment. Engine and transmission problems combined with astronomical prices has destroyed this brand’s credibility.
I bought a new 2004 Tacoma YRD Offroad in Sept 2004 for $31,000. I loved it and drove it for 15 years and 260,000 miles. I bought a new 2019 Tacoma TRD Offroad in August 2019 for $32k. It was like a space ahip compared to my 2004. This 2024, new generation Tacoma TRD Offfroad would cost me $52k. So, in 15 years, the price increased $1000 or maybe $2000. From 2019 to 2024 (5 years) the price increased $20,000. I know inflation is bad, but a 62.5% increase in 5 years is outrageous. I thought I'd drive Tacomas for the rest of my life, but now, I can't imagine buying another one.
I recently got a new 24 Colorado for sub 30k. It is a WT, but it’s still pretty dang loaded. Always wanted a Tacoma, but their prices are insane right now

I recently rented a TRD OFFR Taco, and I gotta say I liked it. Feels much more nimble with better seating room up front. The 4 cylinder didn’t bother me one bit.
Smart move. Overpriced garbage. This new ceo doesn’t care about longevity like the last one. Planned obsolescence. Toyota is just like every other company now. Except now the price doesn’t reflect the quality.
It only has 7k miles it better not lol. But you gotta unload the new tacomas at 7k so the turbo doesn't bite the dust w the engine. I wonder if they'll all die at 100k miles.
How about a base model extended cab XL Ford F150 4x4 with steel wheels and put it through a series of off road test with the 2.7 or 5.0 would be nice to see black bumpers and white exterior

i know it came and went again but i thought the ineos grenadier was supposed to be a long term 'reliability' tester for you? shame we never got to see the outcome.
You didn't mention how your fuel temp was running pretty hot ("It's almost to the red!") during the Ike. The '24 Tacomas are showing a load of major issues (transmissions dying, getting locked into high gear so that you can't move the vehicle even with the pedal to the metal, a ton of warning notices all at once, and these are at very low miles such as a mere 50-100). The Car Guy Online recently put out a video on the Tacoma's issues, and this is right after detailing how the '22, '23 and now '24 Tundras are showing major defects. Toyota is in rough shape right now. Will they survive? Probably, given that Ford wasn't destroyed by the Pinto being a literal bomb on wheels back in the 1970s. I'll be honest and admit that while I like the name "Blueberry" and that the Tacoma does look good in blue and I like the exterior well enough, I have zero desire to drive a Toyota. I think the company uses their reputation as being reliable as an excuse to mark up prices, and this sentiment is reinforced by the mediocre offerings and cheap-looking design once you get inside; it doesn't bring much to the table for what it demands in exchange. I hope to buy a truck later this year or early next, but Toyota won't be considered.
New Toyotas are trash. My cousin hyped it and bought a white TRD offroad, it's been at the dealer for a rear end howling noise. Possibly bad ring and pinion gear, the dealer has been "testing it lol". Before that they had to reset the engine management system because it wouldn't build boost, by the way with no turbo this is the slowest truck on the planet!😊
Jokes aside, I'd actually be really interested in the old rs7 idea for a few videos. Those cars are getting cheaper and are a steal for how much they sell for nowadays
When shopping for a Tundra last year, I bought a 2021 1794 Edition with 40k miles for $49k. The 2023 clown show edition was $80k. My 2021 has been flawless and is now modified for overlanding. I am no longer looking at new Toyota vehicles. Low mileage clean used ones are the way to go for me in the future. Toyota has lost their way.
Full Sticker Price is not a reputable dealership. Full sticker is still gouging and paying full sticker should not be normalized. Traditionally cars had a lot of profit built into the MSRP to negotiate, but now there is thousands more if not tens of thousands of built in profit that should be ripe for negotiation. Don't let these dealers get away with robbing you, and don't get me started on their bull crap build back profit fees.
New Toyotas are just not the same anymore and people are finally starting to notice it, reliability and build quality is going down heavily. And all while prices are skyrocketing !!! I’m glad I got my 21 tundra v8 before everything went to shit

Exactly, they know it won't last , getting rid of it before it is too late, no one wants Tundras 10K under MSRP, Tacoma is next , they know it
4 months is now considered "long term"
They know its trash
Guys I enjoy all your videos but since this the last year of the Nissan Titan can you do a Titan Grand finale; ex 1st gen Titan vs 2nd Gen Titan vs XD Gas vs XD Cummins. All are different trucks and do a full comparison. MPG, power, comfort, towing, payload, utility, best all around!! Thank you
What about the recent issues with the Tacoma Transmissions and top cap in the suspension? How many miles were on the Tacoma when you made the towing test ?
At 15:22 you mention the tiny volume knob. Totally agree, same problem on my GR Corolla. Replace with RAV4 knob, huge difference.
So much for Tacoma resale
3rd gen resale just went up. People don’t want this 4th gen Tacoma anymore, especially for the price.
3rd gen Tundra prices are dropping fast. They are running back to the 2nd gen. Toyota fans will settle and pay so much money for obsolescence. The price difference in MPG and initial cost is usually enough to buy a new engine or transmission in another brand.
You've got your gens wrong I think. The current is 4th Gen and running back to 3rd@@Land_Raver
@gringoloco8576 The current gen for the Tundra that I said in my comment is 3rd gen. Are you talking about Tacomas?
Your channel is so awesome. Just found it. You two are amazing people thank you for what you two are doing.
You should have kept this until the transmission fails....There seems to now be an issue with the rear ends and transmissions..Manual and auto transmissions.....and no transmissions to be had for the time being.
I feel like this was one of the quicker vehicles TFL has gotten rid of and I don't blame them with all the ongoing issues Toyota has been facing.
It was let's get rid of this thing before it blows up, but everyone you should all buy Toyota and it's not a big deal.
It's like their Land Rover Defender. Get rid of it quickly. More than once. So Toyota is the new Land Rover.
That depends;
- If you are researching to buy the Tacoma, Toyota will tell you it is one-in-a-million and that they beefed up the part and QA so every truck will now be better than all of their competitors.
@@Cloud30000preach!
Good that truck honestly sucked anyway 😢
So the next owners gets to replace the engine when it blows.
I feel sorry for the next owner. It's had a hard 7000 mile life
Toyota has turned into a major disappointment. Engine and transmission problems combined with astronomical prices has destroyed this brand’s credibility.
The edging for toyota is crazy 💀
I still have my 2003 Tacoma, I bought new. That is long term.
My Maverick did come with a brake controller. Just saying lol 😂
I recently got a new 24 Colorado for sub 30k. It is a WT, but it’s still pretty dang loaded. Always wanted a Tacoma, but their prices are insane right now
The key to evaluating the 24 is what happens to the engine after 100k miles. I bought the v6 2023 because of the new engine.
It would be great to have a link in the video whenever you play TFL archive clips.
Thanks for testing vehicles. It keeps the manufactures in check
Such bias reviews for your sponsors. Walking on eggs most of the time. New Thundra and Tacoma are just crap and over priced. Your reviews do not capture the current reality either these vehicles.
7:30 that tells me the Taco is not even ready to go off road. That is crazy that the new Tacos are doing this on an easy upslope trail.
I appreciate the reviews you do, unlike some people in the comments complaining about everything. However… not enough criticism of front diff break. That shouldn’t have happened.
I recently rented a TRD OFFR Taco, and I gotta say I liked it. Feels much more nimble with better seating room up front. The 4 cylinder didn’t bother me one bit.
Wait til it gets recalled like the tundra 😂
So because the Tundra has an engine recall. Now every Toyota will have an engine recall? Right.
Actually, the way things going you might be right. Every new model Toyota will probably have an engine recall. 😃
@@M85Iroc The Tundra and Tacoma engines were made at the same facility, so more than likely.
Tacos having tranmission issues not engine issues
paying 50k + for a 4 cylinder truck.... Just no.
Smart move. Overpriced garbage. This new ceo doesn’t care about longevity like the last one. Planned obsolescence. Toyota is just like every other company now. Except now the price doesn’t reflect the quality.
Great video. Enjoyed it while helping my wife clean the house!
Did the transmission have any issues? Serious questions!
No
It only has 7k miles it better not lol. But you gotta unload the new tacomas at 7k so the turbo doesn't bite the dust w the engine. I wonder if they'll all die at 100k miles.
Good thing you got rid of it before the transmission went out
The one truck that isn’t traded in is TFLs HD Ram. Maybe put your money down on heavy duty and skip the other sizes.
16:00 The new tank size is 18.2 gallons. That's 3 gallons less than the last generation.
Did it to the rav4 too. Went from 15 gallons to 12
@@kdaltex which RAV4? Our 2022 hybrid has 14.1 gallons. Gives us about 550-600 miles of range per tank which is acceptable.
@@LacDole 2024 xle. Old 2021 model had a larger tank and buttons on the infotainment screen. 2023-24 they seem to have cheaped out
How about a base model extended cab XL Ford F150 4x4 with steel wheels and put it through a series of off road test with the 2.7 or 5.0 would be nice to see black bumpers and white exterior
Thank god my dad stopped me from preording this
One of the biggest disappointments in automotive history
Went with the Honda Ridgeline trailsport instead
Couldn't be happier 😌
When you realize your depreciating asset is depreciating faster than normal because of how much of a POS it is.
i know it came and went again but i thought the ineos grenadier was supposed to be a long term 'reliability' tester for you? shame we never got to see the outcome.
Toyota still hasn’t addressed howling rear diffs?! That’s been an issue on 2G, 3G and now 4G Tacomas. 🤣
Does it happen on a full moon??
It's a 4 banger
Because I do like your videos and reviews I really wish you had kept this and the 3rd gen Tundra so we could get a long term review from you on it.
2024 Toyota Tacoma has the greatest ground clearance of any pickup when you count the tow truck underneath it!😎
The dealership is gonna add the TFL tested mark up 20k
Wow 26mpg. And that’s with the non hybrid. Very impressive.
2015 Tacoma TRD Sport - 38,603 kms on it
You should had kept it for 1 year and try the course in the same conditions. Just to see what happens.
So, you got rid of it before the engine grenade hit.
Im glad i bought the 2022 V6 TRD Pro. Looks like i might be keeping it forever though.
Thank god i bought a ranger raptor instead of this stupid thing.
New Toyotas are just not the same anymore and people are finally starting to notice it, reliability and build quality is going down heavily. And all while prices are skyrocketing !!! I’m glad I got my 21 tundra v8 before everything went to shit
(T)oyota (F)anboy (L)ove channel really took a bath on this TuRD. Finally, they have the guts to say how it left them stranded on a mountain with that pseudo Toyota quality.
I think you need to long term any Prime Hybrid variant. Curious to see how many times a month it requires a fill up vs how much you can actually drive on battery alone. Compare it to a fully electric car/truck to see if PHEV is the real future of motoring.
😢i had bought a 2002 ford focus 2dr harchback from my brother in law. He sold it to help pay for his sons hospital bills. He repainted it a pontiac voodoo blue and he threw a color matched cold air intake on that nice little 2.0L Dual overhead cam. He put 35% tint on the windows and blacked out those weird top/side taillights. I nicknamed it blueberry.. Loved that thing.. he unfortunately a few years later was diagnosed with CJD, Creutzfeldt-jakobs disease, a cousin to mad cow. He lost his mind then body and saldy but thanksfully no longer suffering, passed in 2020. Made me cry when you talked about blueberry. Thanks TFL lol. He left behind my sister and his 2 awesome sons... love the videos you guys keep it up.. rip cspeed507❤
Can't forget the 5speed manual 🤦♂️🤦♂️❤
The camper starts at $8450? How unbelievably lame for a fabric tent with an access hole. Wow. I paid that amount 20 years ago for a brand new tent trailer with water, fridge and stove and slept 6 people. Ridiculous😂
I was excited for this truck. Very hyped... But now, Toyota can let these rot on the lots. Feel sorry for the Guinea pigs
Ditching it after less than 6 months? 🤔😂
Sorry guys you forgot one brand new piece of junk it's good you're getting rid of it before you start having transmission problems with it and rear axle problems. Best decision you can make just try not to make the same mistake again and go buy another one later on, just buy a Honda Ridgeline you won't have to worry about any of these issues but you might have too much fun driving it though and that's not a great selling promotion, for some odd reason people just seem to be attracted to garbage I just have no idea why!!!!!
