- 5,000 Miles later... We're back at the track! The sketchy conditions of Buttonwillow Raceway in 50 degree weather and a slick track, make the new 2020 Shelby GT500 perform like a monster! Passing the Japanese Tuner cars lap after lap... We also got pulled over by a cop! My first time getting pulled over in the new GT500!

Back in 86 I bought an LX with the GT options, stripped. Stopped by my sisters one day and did a burnout for my teen nephew and his friends. Two months later I come back and 4 of the guys have brand new Mustangs.

Love the way you got back under that oversteer.It's a little queasy tracking on an inadequate tire compound on a cool track,but fortunately skills can prevent catastrophe.
For a stock Mustang, that has to be one of the rawest, most awesome sounds coming from it. It sounds great.

But after hearing its stock exhaust and after being in GT500 for about an hour, I am back to Fords Shelby stable.

I really wanted a mid engine car, but frankly I didnt like the C8 in person as much I had imagined.
The automatic in the GT500 felt like its reading my mind properly while the Vettes auto was hunting/confused at times, we all drive 90% of time on road and thats where the Vette shined, had better ride quality,better cabin insulation and great feel as well. But the GT500 was mean and was like a big Middle finger car, like it didnt care what others think about it or even the owner thinks about it, its rough,its noisy,its brash and yet it had incredible control of its rear wheels, I observed that evn the regular GT Mustang had issues putting power down properly at times, this was completely opposite, its TCS felt superbly tuned. Cut power deliberately and never intruded into driving, felt like its a monster with brains.
Coming to Vette it still is a much better drivers car, but somehow its exhaust felt too synthetic specially when its DCT shifts it to higher gears, I think a Manual would ve made Vette so much better, but for GT500 with that kind of power AT does the job. Also I felt the C8 looked weird in person, in flesh it just didnt appeal to me as much as the GT500 which again was in your face. Like GT500 ! If not just fk offf...
So great to witness someone who's not afraid to use this car the way the manufacturers intended it to be used when they designed and constructed it! Kudos to you my friend!

This guy only was running a 2:04 which was the same time as a Miata 😂😂 just proves that the driver has a lot to do with the time and not so much the vehicle.
Watch out for under 40 degrees in the grapevine with those tires. I’ll be like you’re on ice. Basically don’t drive thru at night. Beautiful there when it snows considering you’re still in LA. Good vid, one happy customer shows.

You should try that track on a motorcycle! Ive been there many times and it can be really slippery! If you just touch the paint at any kind of lean angle on a bike your done.....Buttonwillow has like 15 configurations, I was surprised to see they were running the AFM configuration for cars...

I drove almost 50km on "0km to empty" until I found a station in the middle of nowhere. Pump clicked at 139.8L on a 136L tank (5.0L F150)... Long story fast, there's lots of fuel left at zero on Ford's. Lol

Button willow is a slick track! Chances are, the way you felt on the track that day is what it would feel in the middle of summer! Ran off the track with a set of Hoosiers with 512 rwhp in a stage3 roush. Seriously a slick track and the poor motorcycle guys!
I'm glad that you actually drive your car. So many people who buy these machines will let them sit in their garage. That's an expensive piece of garage art. And correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you have about a gallon of gas left when it says 0 miles to empty? I swear my dealer told me that a couple years ago.
Thank you!!! I think you are right! It probably overestimated my gas mileage usage from all the track driving... As it did seem like there was a bit of fuel left in the tank.

The new Motor Trend has an extensive article on the GT500 but they came up with really high quarter mile times. But I think the magazine deadline was before the Las Vegas press day where even press newbies could do under 11 seconds.

1 month, 5000 miles....... I’ve had my ‘19 GT since 4/20/19, driving it at least 5 days a week and only have 5300 miles on her.
Well tbf, you clearly weren't driving far if truly driving 5 days a week. The average American drives ~13k miles per year, doing rough math.. you only drove 40 miles per trip on those 5 days. Not a lot of driving especially that average per week would be lower considering 5 days. I love driving my new sports cars but hey to each their own.
I think you’re missing the point, bruh..... which is ..... 1 month 5000 miles! It was just an example and tbf I don’t make RUclips content, if so I would probably have more miles on my car. I love driving my car as well, but poor health prevents me from driving as much as I’d like.... hence the reason I don’t make RUclips content.

Whenever I get a new vehicle, one of the first things is I do is fill up an Jerry can, and run the vehicle past 'E' until it starts to sputter, and take note of the total distance on the trip meter, and the distance past when the computer says you should be out of gas.
Doing that will destroy your fuel pump

Your videos are always top notch. The content is fantastic. Your Shelby GT500 is a true beast. You mentioned you thought the GT350 cornered better. I'm wondering how much Cup2 tires would change that? After reading a recent test of the Shelby GT500 by Motor Trend. They call it a World Class Supercar that is on the level of the Porsche GT2 RS. A complete track monster. They tested both the base and what they called the"R" which was the carbon fiber track pack with Cup 2 tires. The "R" estimated 0-60 was 3.0 seconds which is a second faster. They also lapped 3-second faster than the base. Ford checked all the boxes when they built the new GT500.
You mentioned the code received while parked at McDonalds. I believe it was a safety code. Maybe have a dealership plug into the OBD. The emergency brake locks down the car keeping you from driving it. Obviously nothing serious or it would not have reset plus you headed straight for the track with no issues. My then new Chrysler 200S had this happen locking the E brake and at that time the new 8 speed transmission. I was unable to drive the car. After a few minutes It would reset and I headed to my dealership. I know. It's light years away Conpairing a 200S and your Shelby, but the issue seems similar. The problem was the transmission needed a computer update. Great driving, awesome footage. I've seen some other GT500 videos and I think those owners need to look you up for advise on driving their GT500.
