      @@Was-here2 A proper paddle shifted trans is anything but boring. A DCT is not an automatic, it's a semi-automatic manual. It's a manual at heart, just with computer controlled clutches. It's obvious you've never driven a DCT or a single clutch F1 trans. I have (Ferrari), and the way these things feel make you say "manual what?" It's honestly a ton more fun because it feels like a proper race car, like you're in an F1 car. And I drive a C6 Z06 which is of course manual every day and it's great, but I'd still choose those paddles. I wouldn't be saying that if I had never experienced them.

    That is a common message in the Nissan GTR R35, the clutch packs which you have in 2 baskets one for the odd gears and one for the even gears. If they reach a high enough temp you will see this message, its a safety feature to prevent clutch failure. No worries just let the trans cool down and don't listen to people trying to tell you to do a John Force Burnout. This will raise the temps in the clutches, when drag racing the car wont see alot of air flow to cool everything down. Carry on!

      @StupidFastTruck 5 лет назад +3

      @VogelStang...I'm wondering if the tires gripping so well also contributed to the issue. The launch control wasn't ready to see that much grip at that high RPM and it created the over temperature issue. I've heard the Raptor transfer case I've put in my truck has the same feature where if the clutches in TC overheat it locks into full time 4H then not to damage the unit. Its actually good to know Ford thought of this and prevents the GT500 from overheating and damaging the clutches.

    • @VogelStang
      @VogelStang 5 лет назад +4

      @@StupidFastTruck That's a good point. It's really the only thing different between these runs and his previous runs so it certainly seems logical. Ford is slipping the clutch so much at launch it’s ridiculous. That’s why the car won’t 60ft. They are giving it just enough torque to get out of the hole. • @TooManyChoices1
      @TooManyChoices1 5 лет назад +3

      Frozen Stang Vegas was on stock tires. The tires are the other safety feature. They lose traction before the clutch stock. With a drag radial, the slip of the clutch Ford designed in to save the DCT, is a detriment because the clutch spins excessively before it realizes it needs more “bite” and adds more force to spin the drag radial. Maybe a second calibration for drag tires is need , or realizing this isn’t a drag car🥴. 1.8 60ft stock says it all🥴. This is my guess as a non-engineer enthusiast lol 😝.

    Just my opinion but I think you’re better off on a road course. Even with all the protective relays and interlocks the chances of catastrophic damage are greater on the strip. While it has massive power the new GT500 is not what I’d call a factory drag car, it’s a factory road racer, basically a GT350 with a lot more power. But again it’s only my opinion as a GT350 owner. My inexperienced opinion is that your John Force burnout went past the start line (poor track etiquette unless you're in a 8 second car, btw) forcing you to reverse. Most automated manual transmissions slip the clutch a lot in reverse. The heat from the prior run and burnout were probably on the higher end of allowable temperature, then reverse put you at the limit not leaving much left for launch.

    Love the car, and congrats brotha! Be safe with that trans! I Haven't seen a GT500 cut a lower 60ft than 1.6. Even. the one with 950whp is stuck in the 1.68. Stock redeyes cutting 1.4/1.5 all day. Everyone keeps saying lets get that trans unlocked. Nope, its gonna grenade. This car aint capable of much more of a 60ft. With 1.6/1.7. this car will have a lot of trouble finding. low 9.'s unfortunately. There is EP. GT500 has. way more money and mods than I do, and cant break 1.6 60ft and ran 9.6. My redeye is cutting 9.3 with less mods and 1.4 60ft. Be. careful tremec don't make the best transmissions, I know I owned 2 GT500's and 2 GT's.

    Was hard to see, but I didn't notice water where you started the burnouts.. If there wasn't water down and you try / or do burnouts you can burn out a clutch of any variant dct or manual. So make sure there's water down. And roll out post burnout a bit more gently.

    The reason your spinning is prep.....when you were in Texas the strip was properly prepped, and your car was hooking. When you go to these test & tune events, lots of people are running on street tires, which wears down the prep faster. Also if you have the stock front tires on, you should never drive through the water box. The treads on street tires will hold water and drag it up to the starting line. Instead go around the water box, back up into it, then pull up outside it and burnout there.
    I'm thinking the reason your car went into "limp mode", was you had the RPM too high for too long staging with launch control.....in your first pass you only had it up for a second...… your second pass you did it for several seconds...…..I'd look for the first amber light after the tree starts dropping to rev it up with launch control on, and go on third light....your reaction time will greatly improve as well, if you leave when you see the 3rd amber light.

    • @AlexvrbX

      Supercars use DCTs. It's all a matter of how it's put together and how aggressive the cooling is. Just as manuals span a wide range... so too do autos, DCTs included. Sounds to me like either a flakey sensor feeding the computer lies, or insufficient tranny fluid cooling from the factory for that kind of use. On a track you're getting gobs of airflow, not so much doing a largely stationary burnout on a transmission that is already at operating temp to start with.
      So yeah, bigger cooler and/or more powerful fan. Might want to change the fluid while you're at it, bet that shit is expensive.

    Just cuz you can do 3200 RPM launch doesnt mean you should... My Durango SRT I used to think launched better at 3500 which is the max.... however I found that 2800 RPM was the best as far as no tire jumping and decent torque... With the cool weather and only having done 1 launch prior I still dont understand why the clutch got so hot already. This is where the Hellcats come into play with the race cooldown features that the Ford doesnt have.

    When holding the car against the brakes & revving the engine, I would have thought the torque converter would be where the 'slip' is & not the transmission clutch(s) :-/ How about revving/holding the car in Neutral then switch to 'D' or 'S' at launch?

    I knew I saw you there. I wish I could’ve seen you run. First off, beautiful car man. And second, the burn out was a little too long, try 6-7 seconds for nt05’s and with line lock just mash it don’t modulate the throttle. And try foot braking for launch, then try launch control, I would say start off at 1500 and work your way up from there. I think 1500-2000 will be your sweet spot until you get a smaller rim and a tire with a bigger sidewall ,then you can launch it harder at higher rpms ....

    sounds like dual clutches should stay on the road course not the drag strip unfortunately, c8 owners will find that out too. You'll get 1 good pass before you have to stop. The zf 8 speed in the red eye/demon seem to fare the best to abuse and back to back passes. honorable mention: gm/ford 10 speed

    I wonder what the clutch pack cost. may be a wear item like the brakes. I for one cant want to see where the power limit is on the motor and trans. if it turns out to be over 1000 whp it would be a sweet drivetrain swap in to my 2010 instead of a 20k build motor.

      john kidd yes it’s a dual clutch design at the fly what has two shafts one internal and one external to allow the preselection of gears. Then the clutch is hydraulically clamped and engage and disengage to cause the gear change. Clutch pack 1 might be 1,3,5 and 7. Clutch pack 2 is 2,4,6

    The manufacturers are pushing these muscle and sports cars to the max from the gate! Moving forward I truly believe that performance modifications will be a thing of the past unless you do a build from scratch... hence the reasoning behind voiding your warranty is in effect! Drive them and enjoy them for what they are not for what they might become!

    • @rembo183
