Divine Wrath One is subjective as many people find new cars like the Ferrari and Aston models to look better than anything else made in the last 30 years. The second is something that tends to appeal to those who want to be seen rather than enjoy a great drive. I will take better performance over sound any day. A mid range Honda is faster than a muscle car from the 1960s with all its sound and looks. My 911S has a great sound and super car performance by the standards of a decade ago. It’s safer and more comfortable than old muscle cars not to mention being a great everyday car that you can track. Only an insane person would drive an old muscle car in the winter. It’s why that generation dove these only on sunny summer days.
If I had a choice between a new Mustang or a fully rebuilt Stang from 67 thru 69, I'd take the old one 100 out of 100. The old Stangs just look so much better than the ones of today.. To each his own I guess.. Nothing beats the original!!

That launch control on the new cobra seems sort of like cheating... when I was involved in drag racing (1970’s), launching well was most of the job. It was a skill to be proud of. Now the computer does all the work. No finesse from the driver.
true. the driver pretty much admits he doesn't especially know what he's doing, and the guy instructing him basically says " just keep the gas pedal firmly to the floor and release the brake at the light". So basically your grandmother could get a good launch, as all of the skills required for drag racing are pretty much taken out of the equation.
let's go hunting, we have automatic rifle assist and anything you want to shoot has been tied down so as not to escape the pre-programmed bullets......yeah, real skill that
Drag racing modern cars is a joke. No launching. No shifting. Just press the gas pedal down and let the computer do the work. That’s why I laugh at these jokers who think they are cool dragging their hellcats and what not. No skill.
If people still did that the cars would be slow as hell,a human reaction time can only go so far, maybe stop being such an oldhead and accept that change is inevitable.

I was wondering if they ran the 67 on high octane gas. I remember when my dad would sometimes put “Ethyl High Test” in his car. It sounded different and definitely ran stronger. If the 67 was running regular gas it was racing with 2 cylinders tied behind its differential.
My 67 Gt 500 was turning 12.86 in 67. It had a 4.11 rear dealer installed Detroit auto locker. Put some wider tires on it and the times would have gone down. The 67 was way bigger in the cool factor relative to the new Mustang. The inboard headlites and mag wheels added options were a must.
Yep, I had one as well in early 70's. Raced it with my 67 coupe (289) mustang and beat the Shelby so bad, the kid traded me for the 67 coupe, after I offered him $200 in cash as an incentive:-) I figured it worked to about $1100 cash and trade in 1973 with 40K original miles. After some work on the clutch, shifter and carbs, we raced again against my 67 coupe (which ran the 1/4 in 12.9 at Orange County Racetrack) and he only beat me by one car length, and that was all due to traction. My 67 coupe was like a cat, would literally jump off the line, the Shelby was tricky due to all that torque and not big enough or good enough tires. That 67 Shelby to this day was one of my favorite cars, loved working on those dual carbs and that massive motor. Plus the roll bar, aluminum dash and Shelby trimmings were pretty cool.

Aluminum heads. These are the things that make a car go fast. Not just putting them all in one car and claiming to know anything about cars. @Pete shea I never mentioned making more power you did...READ CAREFULLY, LISTEN and try to LEARN. Disc brakes don't make a car go faster either. Those are just innovations related to speed. Everyone wants the SHELBY ( the REAL Shelby) not the launch control. CAN YOU READ? DARE to change that retro body style and Mustang sales will go away. And FORD dammed well knows it. Example look at that last Pontiac GTO no retro body style. NO ONE wanted it. If it had a '65 GTO retro look it would be as popular as the Mustang. Being a Motorcyclist all my life we understand the sensation of speed. Simply it dissipates over time until no matter how fast you go it gets boring. This is why guys love OLD motorcycles. The goal for the Toybarus aren't to be fast in a straight line. The goal is to be a light low power sports car similar to the AE86, which wasn't really a sports car either, but still.
Imagine how many passes you get with the old one while the new one gets prepped for its launch.. which would never time out correctly on a real raceday
Derek Armstrong - was thinking the same thing. I think they set launch rpm really low based on their assessment of the drivers experience and because the track likely was torn up by so many runs with street tires. A 15 second car with hard street tires tears up a track surface worse than a 13000 HP funny car! I have seen other videos (on a prepped track) where the launch RPM was maxed out at 3200 and the car just hooked and booked. Best I have seen so far for a stock car is 10.66.
The line lock we had in our 04 mustang was just hit a button on the shifter and mash the brake pedal and it was engaged. It just shut a valve in the front brake lines so that they would stay on.

@ triplestangman 355 GROSS HP Which means it was measured without an air filter,, headers, accessories, or even a water pump and was run on the stand just long enough before it seized. How realistic do you think that is?
Yeah, I don’t think they have done much to keep it in tune. Probably just used to cruise around. And I know how many miles the engine had on it. A good running 428 auto back in the day was good for low 14’s or high 13’s stock. The limiting factor was the crappy, hard bias ply tires. Total junk.
Peter C - no way it could run 12’s bone stock. Mid 13’s at best. I had a buddy with a ‘69 Mach 1 428CJ back in the 70’s and I know exactly what those cars ran. I had a 1970 Mach1 with a 351 auto and we both drag raced our cars.
My dad and his best friend used to race each other all the time. My dad had a 1970 Dodge Challenger RT 383 Magnum and his friend had a 67 cougar 429 Cobra Jet. Both were 4spd manual. Don’t know the gear ratios but they both said the Challenger with that 383 Magnum would demolish that 429 Cobra Jet. I still think it’s a beautiful ride.

Divine Wrath
One is subjective as many people find new cars like the Ferrari and Aston models to look better than anything else made in the last 30 years.

That launch control on the new cobra seems sort of like cheating... when I was involved in drag racing (1970’s), launching well was most of the job. It was a skill to be proud of. Now the computer does all the work. No finesse from the driver.
Gonna say they should have turned the launch control off at least for the first run. Maybe the traction control too :-)
true. the driver pretty much admits he doesn't especially know what he's doing, and the guy instructing him basically says " just keep the gas pedal firmly to the floor and release the brake at the light". So basically your grandmother could get a good launch, as all of the skills required for drag racing are pretty much taken out of the equation.
let's go hunting, we have automatic rifle assist and anything you want to shoot has been tied down so as not to escape the pre-programmed bullets......yeah, real skill that

And someone to shift manual. It shifted at 4500.
He was running that 67 at 3/4 throttle. My dads 67 does 13's all day everyday.
They did that with an L88 Vette and it went low 11's.
I was wondering if they ran the 67 on high octane gas. I remember when my dad would sometimes put “Ethyl High Test” in his car. It sounded different and definitely ran stronger.
If the 67 was running regular gas it was racing with 2 cylinders tied behind its differential.
Chris Carter yea...so does my stock toyota camry with the ac on.

My pops was making damn good money back in the day and he had one but eventually sold it. He still regrets it to this day.. the pictures he has are badass
Not to mention, Hagerty put the car in D and punched it going down the dragstrip it was shifting way too early. You could hear it.

@@choltzapple I disagree. Sure you wont be a pro right off out the gate. But that's what makes a car guy. Truly loving the machine! The love for a car should be because you took it to the limits. I'm an automotive technician at a ford dealership. The engineer WAS over complicating things only because of how many steps in setting up launch control. The burnout can be done by anyone who knows how to do it, just disable traction control with the press of a button. The launch control is a track app that helps drivers that dont know anything about racing launch the car correctly. Any driver with experience wouldn't need to use the feature. A 15 second car with hard street tires tears up a track surface worse than a 13000 HP funny car! I have seen other videos (on a prepped track) where the launch RPM was maxed out at 3200 and the car just hooked and booked. Best I have seen so far for a stock car is 10.66.
What is the point of line lock when your tires get cold right after setting up launch control
Those arent drag radials anyway....burnouts on street tires are a waste of time
The line lock we had in our 04 mustang was just hit a button on the shifter and mash the brake pedal and it was engaged. It just shut a valve in the front brake lines so that they would stay on.
Like Jay Leno said, "Can you outrun your Grandfather?"
These cars from back in the day are always faster in our minds than they really were.
My V6 Acura (which is basically a V6 Honda Accord) is within half a second of Magnum P.I.'s Ferrari 0-60.
Never been a big fan of the Mustang but the new 1 are badass. Love the wide open front grill, has the look of the 427 cobra. Great vid
I remember the mid seventies when we all KNEW the party was over. Performance cars were toast. We'd NEVER have anything better than pre '71. Geniuses weren't we?
Looked like the '67 was shifting at under 5k.
@Robert B since the stats of the engine is 355 hp at 5400 rpm I'm gonna go ahead and say your wrong on this one. It's an auto and was short shifting badly.
It’s a 50+ year old muscle car, it’s probably detuned a little to protect the engine
The redline on the tach is 6k. Wasn't even close.
@@toastyrex0574 surely it's been rebuild
@ triplestangman
355 GROSS HP
Which means it was measured without an air filter,, headers, accessories, or even a water pump and was run on the stand just long enough before it seized.
How realistic do you think that is?
"car" guys... get into the water box and just mat it for 30 seconds..on the limiter... on radials.
That makes me cringe. lol
What does this mean
The engineer told him to the floor. Then he held it there and he regretted his words 😂
At least we dont need a rocket science major and 9 GCSE's to change the oil on the GT500
So after you take into account the launch control setup time, the 1967 completes the 1/4 mile in half the time of the 2020.
I like the old one, it had less Ford in it. 😉
He Grannied the 67 should've been in low 14's i would think
Agreed. My 1969 Mach 1 has just a 351 in it, and I get just under 14 seconds. This should be about the same or faster.
The engines just probably old as hell
Yeah, I don’t think they have done much to keep it in tune. Probably just used to cruise around. And I know how many miles the engine had on it. A good running 428 auto back in the day was good for low 14’s or high 13’s stock. The limiting factor was the crappy, hard bias ply tires. Total junk.
The driver clearly was not moshing the pedal to the metal brothers
Peter C - no way it could run 12’s bone stock. Mid 13’s at best. I had a buddy with a ‘69 Mach 1 428CJ back in the 70’s and I know exactly what those cars ran. I had a 1970 Mach1 with a 351 auto and we both drag raced our cars.
2:40 Too much technology, would definitely take the old Shelby.
Ikr. The Batmobile would have less complex tech than this
My dad and his best friend used to race each other all the time.
Great video. New shelby looks awesome but I do feel the line lock function should literally be a switch saying "go baby go".
"Difference of 5 seconds"
15.2-11.3= Do you even math bro?
Actually, the '20 should have been better than a second lower and a 4 speed version of the '67 would have been in the high 13's. A little less than 4 seconds different, but way less than 5, for sure!!!
"It was my understanding that there would be no math."
Do you do math, bro? 4.1 seconds and the driver of the real GT500 had no clue how to drive.
@@mustardstain504d6 3.9 seconds. Holy crap...
New ones a great ride, old one a great drive
Underrated comment
