  • Thanks to TC Harrison Ford I managed to get my hands on the Mustang 2.3 litre Ecoboost to review. But just how good is it compared to it’s bigger brother? Is it worth buying over the Mustang GT?!

I love my 2017 Mustang EcoBoost premium. 310 hp is plenty for me. It handles curves well and I don't really care about the sound. I'll take the looks and the better mpg.

Excellent review as always Gary - you certainly are a natural. That Mustang looks really great in the white with the black alloys.

Of all the countless Mustang reviews on RUclips, I found this to be one of the best - good to get the perspective of an RS owner and to talk about the car rather than obsessing about it being 4 cylinder as opposed to V8 and whether it should be tuned to be 400hp etc. Given that the convertible is the slowest of the bunch, it's interesting to hear you say that it didn't seem that far off your RS. To look at the car from UK roads and driving conditions was helpful too. As someone else says in the comments, you are a natural.

Great review mate. I'd have either version....although the sound of the V8 alone is probably worth the extra money ;)

Good review here nice car. I have a 2017 manual ecoboost coupe in white and your spot on about at 5000rpm theres like an extra shove of power that throws you back in your seat. I drive mine in sport mode all the time. If you put car in sport mode steering automatically goes into sport too so no need to change steering feel, also when its dark outside you can change dials and ambient lighting to different colours pretty cool feature. I get 35 to 43 mpg driving normal but if you drive more spirited you get maybe 20 to 25mpg, very good car for the long journeys thumbs up from me 👍👍😁

Great vid again Gary but you do need to review the petrol st .... especially with you owning the rs .... it would be great to hear your comparison between the two

Well, let's put it this way......this is far far better than a TR6, TR7, TR8, MGB V8, Austin Healey 3000, Stag, or any other old ragtop from the past. In Jolly Olde England how can you use 310 hp and where can you drive faster than 160 kph? I think the Focus makes far more sense in UK where premium petrol is about $6 USD for a US gallon. But, enjoyable review. 👍 If I lived in UK I would have a EV or PHEV. Maybe you will test the Mach-E when they become available in UK. Cheers.

Hired a V8 in USA and loved it. Would love to buy a Mustang next but can't afford to run a V8.. Am tempted for the 2.3 ecoboost!

I have re-watched this and wonder if you or any fellow Mustang 2.3 owners can help with the following: the significant majority of reviews (and goodness know's there are a lot of them) point to the power falling away after 5,000 rpm, and this car being set up for low down and mid range torque - and this is often supported with graphs from a dyno, and parallels drawn with the Focus and Fiesta ST. However, I am with you, I feel peak power higher up the range and can get a secondary surge which pushes me back into my seat far more than when first on boost. This surge is quite illusive and to be honest it can only be reached at 'track speeds', but it certainly happens for me, and doesn't fit with what is the accepted normality for the car. I can also get sub 6 secs 0-60 times and don't feel that I have really stretched the car to reach those times either - is it possible that the Mustang 2.3 is set up slightly differently for European market? It's a stock Auto with only 2k on the clock and I only ever run with V Power.

Yeh i have a 2017 ecoboost mustang 6 speed manual an its like you say, its like the feeling of a second turbo at 5000rpm an it really throws you back in ur seat, even spins wheels in 3rd on damp roads at that high rpm lol, yeh seen american reviews they say after 5000rpm its power tails off but for me in uk its defo got more shove after 5000rpm 👍👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@@johnwhite2143 Agree completely, 2016 ecoboost manual owner and there is a noticeable push circa 5000rpm :-)

To be honest I think ford has weakened the eco boost mustang by not giving it the same power as the RS 310 vs 345 I do believe. And that’s mainly because the it would be much closer to the 5.0 Top Gear did a drag race between a GT and RS and the GT barely won over a quarter mile the RS got it off the line thanks to AWD and launch control but the power of the GT won in the end. With a few bolt on mods and a tune it would be near the GT for performance

More torque in the coup and convertibles suck. Glad you like it but they still suck and they flex because of the top missing.
Also the performance package handles better.
