  • Confessions of a Cult Leader: Landmark, Asiaworks, Lifespring & other Large Group Awareness Training & Charismatic Cults.
As one of the first Asian Pioneer Promoter to join and promote LGATs, I feel I have the full authority to give my Expert Evaluation about “Charismatic Cults” - cults that inspire devotion and passion in others by charismatic Cult Founders & Cult Leaders.
    The Modus Operandi of Cults
The MO Slogan of most cults is: Slowly, slowly catch the (Virgin) Monkey!
    1) The Cult Bait
The Forms of Cult Bait: ● Giving FREE food, free previews
    ANYTHING FREE is a bait.
    2) The Cult Kill
    3) The Cult Slavery
The cult leaders will create long-term isolation religious instructions and may become a ‘control freak police’ to monitor, heavy discipline, daily indoctrination, forcing followers to enroll their relatives, friends into their new ‘true religious family’
    The Typical LGAT 3-Level Format:
I attended all the 3 levels of LGAT of Life Dynamics (LD) in Hong Kong in 1991:
    1) Basic: US$500
    2) Advanced: US1,000
    3) 90 day Program with a fancy or deceptive title
    Why the long hours:
The long hours is to wear out participants so that they are more vulnerable and willing to listen the cult coach's advice.
The Dark Side of LGAT: Hard Core Enrollment
LGAT Coaches are very clever and deceitful in camouflaging hard core selling with their twisted concept of Enrolling Skill is very important skill to have in life. They brainwash you that you'll need this skill to enroll others in our vision, values, project, thinking, etc.
Then especially in the Third Level 90-day program in the first of 3 weekends, they go around the room one by one to get a public declared enrollment figure.
    NOTICE to LGAT Organizers
The moment a particular group STOP the ENFORCED ENROLLMENT HARD SELLING the name will be removed from the list - UNTIL then Saving 72 Virgins will haunt them until they give up this despicable practice.
There are many Personal Growth Groups who do NOT hard sell such as NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Wings Seminar
Alexander Everett: Who is the Father of the Human Potential Movement Cult?
Mind Dynamics proved a precursor to other groups that used similar techniques. Alexander was referred to as "The Teacher of Teachers" and "The Father of the Human Potential Movement" ... as his employees included Werner Erhard, founder of "est" Erhard Seminars Training and of the Landmark Education; John Hanley Sr., co-founder with Robert White of Lifespring; James H. and Janet Quinn, founders of LifeStream, LifeResults, LifeSuccess and New Perspectives; Randy Revell, founder of Context Trainings; Tom and Jane Willhite, founders of PSI World; Robert White, founder of ARC and Life Dynamics; Howard Nease, founder of Personal Dynamics; Bill Schwartz, founder of the Meditation Institute of Milwaukee; Stewart Emery, founder of Actualizations Workshop, Russ and Carol Bishop with Insight Seminar.
    My Bottomline Expert Prognosis:
Large Group Awareness Training have some good training modules but the BIG BUT is their bad practice of hard core selling and peer pressure enrollment of each and every participant to make big money from them and their connections is totally not acceptable in my professional opinion.

AsiaWorks founder Chris Gentry was my Advance and 90 day Leadership Program Group #1 for Life Dynamics (founder Robert White) in Hong Kong.

Yes I agree the hard sell is not fun...I did a handful of Landmarks programs like a decade ago...the material was great. I benefited a lot. The thing most people don't know is you an go get all the good stuff and leave the stuff that doesn't resonate. You can always say No...then say it again....and again. One of my fav phrases was "I hear you I understand what you are saying and that you got a lot out of the next course....and I am a No for now." Thank them and walk away.

I did Landmark about 10 years ago. Then started doing the evenings during the week. Once I had had enough I went to a meeting and told the leader I was finished….she didn’t like it but as I told her “I was being authentic” which is a key word in Landmark courses.

This happened to me yesterday in India. It's funny how they try to push so hard. I kept on telling the brainwashed cult members that I don't have any desire (like becoming a millionaire or smth) for the course to be of any use to me. It was funny how they kept on trying to convince me otherwise.

I've done several of these trainings including Lifespring and Landmark. The trainings are excellent and make a powerfully positive difference in life. Unfortunately, they use your enthusiasm for the training to pressure you to enroll your friends. When they asked me how many people I'd be bringing, I just said zero in a firm voice and they didn't push it.

I was advised to go to landmark recently. did a ton of research and it’s a HUGE waste of money, time and energy. ALL of the stuff you can learn in self help books, and it’s a shame that people would rather go to seminars than PICK UP A BOOK. People feel the need to connect in a group, which is why they spend 675$ to abandon their families, friends and go to a stupid convention that only provides “false hope”, motivational talks and that forces you to go inward on your problems in life. I’ve developed a hatred for these LGAT trainings, despite not being in one, because the entire concept seems ridiculous in every way

I mean... most advanced graduates - people who have participated in many landmark courses - have exceptional skills at things like... creating new opportunities in relationships or business. Living in accordance to deeply held values. Creating new spaces in family, healing old wounds, forgiving others. Or for instance, recognizing worldviews which limit their access to new experiences (hint hint). It's like this: there is something in your life you are left with through your prior experiences that you have NO POWER to change. This is due to perceptions and views of yours. They arise in language and form an identity. There are ways you can actually cause these to shift and it shifts in language. Yeah, you can learn gestalt therapy, you can read all of Heidegger work, you can meditate for years at a monastery, you can pay tens of thousands for therapy... any of these can cause shifts in the occurring world (what arises in our perception according to our world view)... Or you can spend $700 and get it in 3 days and a Tuesday. Landmark is FAR from perfect and should give away far more of their work for free. They also produce extremely high quality seminars that are overwhelmingly powerful and useful. I own 8 businesses and have incredible relationships with my business partners, an incredible productive relationship with my co-parent, none of which existed until I learned what it takes to take on my perceptions and stories in my life.

@E 0 There are also people that have attended that came away with psychological and anxiety issues. My brother being one of them. It's not for everyone, but Landmark doesn't care if it's not for everyone. They only care about robbing you of your money for something that isn't necessary to attend in my opinion. I'm not a fan of them. Glad you had a good experience though.

Very interesting you mention of the very destructive affects of Lifespring for some people. Nervous breakdowns, psychotic episodes, depressions, relationship breakdowns, deaths, suicides. Absolutely incredible that this group was doing this to unsuspecting participants. I understand that the vast number of lawsuits against them finally shut them down in the mid-1990s. Good riddance.

I really hope the same thing happens to Landmark they're done exactly the same to people they are dangerous and completely unqualified to coach such a large group of people, they know and don't care. They just want people's money and to dominate people that's all. The fact that people and the media still see Werner Erhard ie Jack Rosenberg as some sort of philanthropic sage for the ages is also absolutley absurd, this is a man who abused and neglected his family and staff, committed bigamy, avoiding paying his taxes and embezzelled money and laundered money through the phony 'Hunger Project' that was meant to eradicate food poverty. And he has the nerve to still talk about compaassion and integrity etc and charge 1000s of pounds for the privelege of earing him talk.
I recommend Outrageous Betrayal by Steven Pressman if can get hold of the book (now sadly out of print) very detailed in it's discussion of the corruption of Landmark and these LGATs as well as the many associated court cases.

I'm cult Mediation Expert attached to the International Cult Studies Association (ICSA). I have joined some religious and Large Group Awareness Training (LGAT) cults as a pioneer in my earlier life. I have studied countless cults for the last 39 years, there are very clear characteristics of cults which many cult members are too blind and brainwashed to see through.
Watch my video on The Modus Operandi of Cults: tinyurl.com/ycp2g2ce
Many cults are officially recognized as NGOs, endorsed by celebrities (e.g. Scientology and Tom Cruise), some with millions of followers and all cults have good people joining them.
I have created the "Saving 72 Virgins Top Cult List" (find out which cults are listed):

For me in landmark I was told that I am not my body. And I was so triggered at first. But I really got through something HUGE in my life:: finally I could see that I am not my body. I am not those sensations of pain I feel daily with my chronic stomach illness. I have a power beyond what my body says is so. And this is not to ignore my body and pretend I don’t have pain. This is to acknowledge that I am sensing pain, to give my body what I think it needs and to know that I often start to feel stomach pain when I am about to break through something, and the making the pain bigger than my dreams is what keeps holding me back. So yeah we are not our body, a lot of what we think is pain is a mental creation that we use to stay comfortable (because stomach pain is more comfortable to me than to take the next step at becoming a dancer), and sometimes it is truly a well being issue where we need to sit it out, and that’s totally fine!! However what is a miracle is to have that freedom of choice-not to fall back on what’s comfortable all the time

More than likely she's better off, the programs are super useful and it isn't a cult. They tell you to confront your stories and how you affected others through your rackets and filters and they have robbed you of love and joy in relationships. Landmark mostly causes you to have conversations where you deal with the way you've been and create new relationships with others and it doesn't require them to participate either. Not participating is anyone's choice, but the programs are well worth the money too.

I had a former girlfriend who went to Landmark, considered it life changing, and she subsequently brought her mother for an additional training session. She was a very interesting and independent woman, no children, and had made her living as a beauty object … briefly an NFL cheerleader, then a trade show model for years. When I inquired as to what transpired there, she was extremely imprecise in her descriptions, therefore I hardly knew anything about it. I’m guessing money is at the root of these endeavors? Am I correct in this? Who is getting wealthy off these schemes?

    • @NoahCMKMarket
      @NoahCMKMarket 2 года назад

Landmark is a for profit business. I've no idea where the money goes but they must have a lot.
It's starts as a three day course in an auditorium with a leader, 150-200 students, and a posse of graduates doing the donkey work.
The leader leads a conversation and in so doing gets you to look at your life and who you've chosen to be in ways that you haven't before. Students get moments where pennies start dropping and they're encouraged to share about it; this tends to trigger other students to see things differently too. It snowballs.
The course is followed up with a 10 week evening seminar program.
Personally I found it great value for money and incredibly powerful.

      Isn’t a money making scheme
They spend their money in four areas
      Staff
      Travel
      Real estate
      Telecommunications
Your girlfriend couldn’t describe or explain it because there’s nothing to describe or explain
There’s blind spots that we all face and when the Blindspot is put in front of us we can see it and then we can take action
So I had a Blindspot were in my head I was telling myself that I was unlucky, no wonder
I shed that realized I was saying that to myself I don’t say that to myself at all anymore even said that to myself and 20 years
What this guy is describing has nothing to do with the landmark forum, maybe he went to one introduction and meet his own assessments of how things operate there, it’s entirely not what happens

MITT in Los Angeles, has anyone done it? The take aways- friends, vulnerability with strangers, knowing my boundaries and myself. However, it does open up the spiritual side of everything. You will start seeing coincidences and if you didn't believe in God, you might. HOwever there's also the flip side that you might just feel heavily dissappointed with humanity.

Of course I felt like a sucker they then went on to offer more expensive seminars for those that didn’t (get it ) of course I didn’t sign up and was told I got it lol 😂 a few months later the same woman contacted me and said she had found a new seminar Life Spring lol 😂 I told her no thank you I already (got it ) the first time 👍

You will experience a closeness to people. Maybe even be long term friends. If you are not self aware, you can get introduced to that part of you. It's worth going to solely for that awareness. I'd suggest waiting to make your decision to continue further afterwards.

Thankyou for sharing. This guy is a hero. My boyfriend recently joined this Asiaworks thing for like almost 3 months, and I am really concerned about him. So the first day of his basic training, he met this woman who is one of the participants. And they become extremely close like only in a day, so after the Training has ended which is at around midnight 12am (FYI, the training is from 9 am till midnight), so after the training has ended, they went for a dinner just the TWO OF THEM. Which is quite odd. They had dinner till 2am in the morning. Since that, they become more and more close to each other. The day after they had dinner together, my bf ask her for a lunch together just two of them. AGAIN. then the next day, i met this woman, and i notice something, i notice that my boyfriend seems very comfortable with that bitch, and they keep talking and joking around like I wasnt there. He even dare to hug my bf in front of me. After that, i confront my bf, I asked him whats wrong with u and that bitch, why r u so close to her, he then told me that theyre only friends, and he felt like he connects with her then he started to called me possesive. So ok, i didnt want to continue arguing so i just tried to think positive. Then one day, I check my bf’s conversation on Whatsapp with that bitch. And I found something very disturbing. She asked him “what kind of woman am I in front of u?” That BITCH REALLY ASKED HIM THAT. Then my bf reply with “I think u’re the perfect woman and I admire u a lot”. After that, I asked my bf to left that fucking training for good or else I will breakup with him. WHAT KIND OF FUCKING TRAINING IS IT?? THEY’RE TRYING TO RUIN YOUR RELATIONSHIP. ARE THEY PROVIDING BITCHES TO SEDUCE UR BF/HUSBAND???

The 2 Sides of The Knife of LGAT:
There is a real danger when LGAT participants open up during those intimate processes. It opens up participants' minds and hearts, but it also opens up temptations.
That's why a solid ground rule of NO SEX during the workshops and for 90 days AFTER the last workshop should be strongly emphasized. But not enough is monitored in this area I feel.
I was a good friend of the first promoter of Life Dynamics Hong Kong. She had her marriage fail as she succumbed to cheating even after the 90 days ground rule. I did not clarify with her whether her marriage was already on the rocks. If it was, LGAT training will usually accelerate the break up or divorce.

Your mind/emotions leading is not the way to go through life and try to make sense of things but instead to have a heart-driven experience. Motives play a big part. We are motion machines with abilities to seek, ask and knock on doors causing us to adventure toward progress called evolving leading to meaning and depth all in a fun way. This training and others like it are like diplomas or degrees. Anyone can have or get one but what you do with it is the key. This remains subjective as it should be. The ones that let go of what does not work automatically find what does. Having a heart that leans toward the child in you thriving helps.

Popcorn sunday Sad to hear this. I’ve got a close friend who is being pushed to attend this leadership program. She has done a thorough research before attending to the workshop, and she requested a full refund since she felt uncomfortable after reading so many negative reviews online. There’ll be an interview with her this Friday by the program to ‘get to know her’ and hopefully recruit her to the program. All I can do is to hope that she won’t fall into the trap. I wish you and your wife will be better

Pay money to know new group of fren, so called sincere, open minded and positive frens...do charity, weekend meeting, weekday meeting...night time meeting...meeting...meeting... everyday morning coaching call, so this is all I know so far. They spend most time within the group even they are with you, they will read whatsapp chat from the group. And I dont think my wife know she gonna do charity in this program, but they made her to believe self growing through contribute to society. Cult members have no normal life and no choices.
A cult controls every aspect of their followers’ lives.
A cult brainwashes its followers to isolate and surrender their:
    ● Religion
(if it is a religious cult, there's likely be hatred or intolerance to other religions)
    ● Career ambitions
(only to glorify their cult)Family life, relationships, relatives & friends
    ● Food, drinks, sleep & dressing
    (religious/group garb, uniform)
    ● Wealth, money, % of income, assets & properties
    ● Pastimes & freedom
(classes, proselytizing service, less or no entertainment)
    ● Holidays
    (pilgrimages, visiting cult places)
Cult members have no normal life and no choices
    - like puppets with all major life decisions made for them.
Cut the strings and be free.

No, Tupperware is a pyramid scheme. The difference is that people who sell Tupperware aren't trying to get you to hand over your free will to them and they are not exploiting your most vulnerable emotions and experiences in order to profit off you. They just want you to buy their crap and if they can convince you to sell that crap, too, all the better.

I absolutely have to discount your video 99%. You are selling your program and bashing everybody else’s. You are not an expert. Who has written a book about you? Who has invited you to speak at an Ivy League college? Which neuroscientists are following you around begging you to speak at their conventions?
Anytime anybody says to me there an expert, the hair on the back of my neck stands up.
If you’re an expert, your actions and who you are out in the world hold you out to be an expert. When you have to say it and claim it, You are trying to be someone because who you “see yourself as” simply isn’t enough for you.
The Landmark Forum is the technology that allows people to discover for themselves how they look at life and what impact that view has on the actions they take personally to fulfill on what is important to them. It gets the bullshit out-of-the-way so you can take the actions that will give you the life that you want.
Landmark is also a company. They sell courses. Anybody who sells cars wants you to buy the air conditioning and the automatic transmission and the stereo and the leather interior because they make money selling their products.
You share in this video that you literally wrote on the coattails of those people who brought this transformational training into your world and because you followed their footsteps you are now an expert.
I am so sorry, this is not a defining attribute that fits your description of yourself.
Caution everyone who listens to someone who is disguising your motive. “Take my Seminar and don’t take the others”
    That’s all I can say
