  • Steve Hassan leads a meeting for former cult members. Ginni Lamp (Thomas) speaks at 17:40 about her involvement in Lifespring. Ginni Lamp married Clarence Thomas in 1987 and then officially became Ginni Thomas. I apologize for not clarifying that previously. Many of the major former member activists speak at this meeting including Joe Szimhart, Paul Martin, Carol Giambalvo and more. It was a time in history where it was 10 years from the Jonestown assassination of Congressman Leo J. Ryan and murder of over 900 Americans (over 300 were children). We were pushing for a Cult Awareness Week to create more knowledge and awareness about destructive authoritarian cults.

I came here from Twitter. I’m a little bit in shock because my Mother was a trainer for Lifespring in Portland Oregon. She may have moved up higher than that… She was very involved and got several family members to take the workshops or whatever they called them. I was 13 and forced to attend many meetings, trainings and a few weekends etc before I just refused to go anymore and it was extremely destructive to our relationship. During a weekend event, I left the room we were all in because I couldn’t handle what was happening with the adults. It was extreme. Anyway, I was crying and she came outside to get me to go back in as I had left without permission etc and I said “I need my Mom right now… I’m really scared” and she waited a minute or so and she replied “I don’t think it’s helpful to be your Mom anymore. You should call me Barbara. We’ll do better if we are friends not parent and child.” I was forced to go back in but that day resulted in a disconnect from me as I wasn’t open. Fortunately we repaired our relationship (as much as possible) about 10 years before she died. I forgave her but I have always blamed her for putting me through that for the years she was involved. I NEVER ONCE thought of it being a cult and that blows my mind. I don’t know what to think right now to be perfectly candid. I wish my Mom was still alive because I think knowing this would have helped me feel less hurt by her. Thank you for posting these … PS..never did “get it”.

So sorry. My mother got deeply into AA when I was in my early 20s. I never knew she was a drunk! She wasn't but it was a way to gain power in a cult setting. She is a malignant narcissist who always set me up for brutality by my father. I was her willing scapegoat as a kid but remained very loyal due to Stockholm Syndrome growing up. When I saw how the AA people lavished her with praise, things, everything she wanted I knew she had dumped my father for a more lucrative gravy train. I'd been out on my own since my 18th birthday. Making my own living and suffering the perils of a kid who was raised to be dumb. Turns out I am not dumb at all. Quite intelligent, in fact. I have a knack for analysis regarding people. That's the silver lining. Lost my mother and most of my family in the process of becoming educated, but that's life. And cults.

My mom was pretty deep in Lifespring in the late 90s and got my best friend and I to attend one of their weekend events when we were 18 years old. At the time, I wouldn't have called it a cult but I felt pretty strongly that it was a new age type scam designed to part naïve people from their money. Everyone there seemed to be struggling with some type of repressed trauma or were closeted gay people. I got the sense that the trainers really wanted us to get deeper into it because we were young black males, which seemed to be their smallest demographic as far as I saw. In any case, they were kinda creeping me out, so I gave them fake contact info and never had anything further to do with them. I recall getting into an argument with my mom about it where I called her gullible and then felt bad about it later even though I meant it. As I remember, the 80s and 90s were FULL of groups like this but I never thought about it as a cult either until I saw the story about Thomas on Inside Edition this afternoon. My jaw dropped and I shouted to my wife and daughter "That's that thing I was telling you about that my mom made me go to as a teen!!!" Wow.

👋 Doc, I'm a ExJW survivor. I'm currently listening to your book regarding cults. It's funny I was listening to your book and this 📹 video popped up on my RUclips feed. I'm POMO, but still struggling with untangling the 30yrs of indoctrination. The fact that there so many cults or high control groups blows my mind. I'm grateful 🙏 to your work on the B.I.T.E. model it helped me wake up. Hopefully, one day these horrible groups will no longer exist because of you educating the masses. Thanks a million for helping us.

Hi Cooper, ExJW also, agree with all you’ve said. I left in 2018 after 33 yrs in, it’s definitely been a process. I also read Dr. Hassan’s «Combating Cult Mind Control ». You might also want to read « Exiting the JW Cult » & « Shunned » by Bonnie Zieman. When I first saw the title of her book I thought « Cult », well that’s a little strong, however below that title it said « A Healing Handbook”, & I knew I needed healing. You can imagine how I felt after reading the book. “ I was in a CULT”. This prompted me to buy Dr. Hassan’s book, I quote the BITE model now whenever I talk to others of my indoctrination. Have a great day, & keep researching & healing ❤️‍🩹!

@@marie-clairedelongchamp1330 Good morning, it's always awesome to hear from someone else that escaped the Matrix aka The Borg. I will definitely add those resources to my collection. I'm a third generation survivor and shunning has been extremely difficult and overwhelming. Do you know of any non-profit organizations that help ex cult members? Trying to find a doctor or resources has been like finding a needle 🪡 in a haystack. The JW organization aka the governing body has and continues to ruin many lives. The catholics at least acknowledged their wrongs and helped their ex members/victims. However, the GB feels NO remorse and continues to take money from its members smh. I would truly appreciate 🙏 any information that you can provide. Please take care and be safe.

@@cooperjackson4348 another RUclips channel that I follow is RFRx - Recovering From Religion of which the founder is Dr. Darrel Ray & I know they have discussions with anyone who has left high control religions, peer support as well as professionals. They have been a great help, therapy that I can’t afford, if you wish! I’m presently reading Dr. Darrel Ray’s book “ The God Virus” which has been interesting & makes a whole lot of sense, especially having gone through the pandemic, understanding virus & how they work…he’s spot on!! Keep me up to date, & thanks for responding 😁

It's a shocker the longevity and geographical spread of these practices.
In NZ in the 70s TM came to my alternative high school and I was given a mantra (for free). In Canberra Australia in the 2000s a friend tried invited me to join a meditation group casually referring to TM without mentioning that TM might be a cult. The book critiquing TM was written in the 80s I think. The Canberra TM ....now yoga group organises retreats to India which seem to me to be a conduit to Guru Amma and Hinduism - without full disclosure. The group leader's induction process involves a one on one meeting where he does a time line with you of life high and low points (I now realise getting some very detailed information re possible trauma etc) and he complimented my appearance... (me sceptical).
A very pretty blonde teenage boy from Children of God chatted teenage me and a (female) friend up on the streets of Auckland NZ in the 70s and invited us to something. Years later I realised what Children of God was and that this was a form of 'flirty fishing'. Yerk.
A friend took me to EST in Sydney Australia in the early 80s and when I didn't join 'confronted' and rejected me. In 2010's in Canberra Australia, I was astonished to find that my son's state funded primary school was 'hosting' Landmark and a rather nice Mum phoned me out of the blue to get me to go. WTF
Previously I have taken an approach of 'if it works for you great'. But the more I learn the more concerned I am.

Very dangerous to have this going on with members of the government giving it legitimacy. Extremely subversive. Perfect storm. We need blue votes up and down ballots for several election cycles, or these people will continue to subvert. Highly dangerous, especially when the grip extends into the halls of justice. He, Thomas, doesn't belong in there, not with a wife who is doing this sort of "work". Let's get our country back. The MAGAs are more like MAGGOTS. Not in our country, no thanks.

Saw Dr. Hassan on Greater Boston ( WGBH ) last night. He spoke about his familiarity with Ginni Thomas' cult programming. Not so sure about how she was DEPROGRAMMED, however, but it involved a professional deprogrammer ( hired ) with a bent towards replacing cult doctrines with more acceptable Christian religious doctrines. Maybe she was actually REPROGRAMMED. Hard to tell.

It seems she is certainly driven. By marrying Clarence Thomas, she can continue with her "cult practices" under the cloak of a Supreme Court justice to protect her, keep her hidden. This vis very creepy, given her role in Jan 6. She's definitely not over being in a cult, and would be considered highly successful given the marriage to Thomas. She can continue her ways under the radar, since justices are supposed to be above all of that. Much is being revealed that makes one feel less than assured that the Supreme Court is abiding by the "justice is blind" principle. These people work hard, and continue to work hard, to advance their personal ambition. It's sick, it's a cancer, we're doomed.

Did Ginni Thomas rejoin Lifespring? Just because she went through “deprogramming” does not mean she did not secretly return. Her way of thinking is like that of Lifespring devotees.
