  • For years butter has been demonized, and replaced with all types of stand-in's. But that might be changing. More and more, butter is reclaiming it's place as the most popular fat of all.
But, is that a good thing; is butter safe? I'll explain in this video exactly whats in butter, and if it's safe to eat, or not. You may be surprised by some of the things you will find in butter.
Whether you put it on your steak or in your coffee, butter is tasty and filling. The question we should all be asking, however is, is it safe??

My paternal grandmother who was an old school Pole (Poland) always had a bowl she kept on her kitchen table that was a mixture of 1/2 butter 1/2 lard. We used to tease her that she was going to die young of clotted arteries. She never EVER used margarine. When I went keto at the beginning of this year, and heard Dr. Berry talk about how margarine is CRAP for your system, I decided to try Grandma's butter/lard mixture and haven't looked back. BTW... she lived to be 99 and 10 months old!

I'm staying with my sister to help her she's through chemo therapy. The first thing I did was tossed out her Canolla oil. She dug it out of the trash. We had a knock down fight but that bottle of poison went back into the trash. For the next few days I dodged the spears shooting from her eyes but I won. She no longer cooks with seed oils. She discovered food tastes better when cooked in animal fat.And she is now doing better on Keto. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about food.

Almond flour and high oxalate veg like kale and spinach will do that. When you use it suddenly for a diet, it will give you the trots and cause abdominal cramping. Carnivore is less reactive. At least for me.

i call it Failed Grease..cos..that is Exactly what it was invented for, by the US Military..but it didn't work the way they wanted so...instead of eating the cost of this Failed grease, which is made from Plastic Petroleum byproducts, Not dairy, btw, they Sold it to the FDA who put yellow dye in it & marketed it as...a cheaper...Healthier..butter substitute.
i was Not the first to discover this, but i may have been the Loudest in Exposing it..& When i found the Official Documentation on this & Published it..online...the shockwaves almost drove some over the edge...i got quite a few rather scary death threats in emails...

My first "light bulb moment" was when I first discovered that margarine and butter had the same amount of calories -- and I realized that all the adverts pushing margarine as a low-calorie alternative to butter were lying (imagine that!). That one fact was what started me on a life-long journey of reading labels, books, blogs, etc. to discover the truth about the lies that Big Food, the AMA, and your doctor tell you, like butter is bad for you, grains are better for you than meat, don't worry about all the hormones we put in your food (they would never hurt you). I don't swallow all the health information I read whole, though, I do my own research and now I am about to embark on a Ketogenic diet because, well, it just makes sense! Thank you Dr Berry for all that you do -- it is much appreciated!

Wonderful info Dr Berry, thank you. Over thirty four years ago I shared a room with a woman who was from America and we were at a health retreat in Blue Mountains Australia. She was doing her PHD on the bad effects of Margarine. At that time it was all the rage to eat and the golden product new to the market in the height of the “Low Fat” revolution that has now seen such an obesity and diabetic epidemic today. She said she was getting death threats from the major money makers of margarine at that time and they didn’t want her to publish her thesis. I never did eat Margarine from that time on, my family have always eaten butter. I wonder sometimes what became of that woman.

I agree. Here in Canada butter is a bit more expensive than margarine but I find I don't use as much say as a spread on bread so it helps lower the cost difference. It is also psychological in knowing butter is better for me than margarine. So not only is it better for me, my mind is better too.
I also cook with lard and saved bacon grease, this makes food cook better as it has a higher burn point over seed oils and I find it enhances the flavor of cooked foods in both.
I'll also be introducing olive oil into my household eating regiment.😎👍

I grew up on a farm, we had a milk cow, we made our own butter in a churn. We didn't have a pasteurizer for the milk, we would shake up the 2 inches of cream on top of the huge pickle jar and pour us a glass of milk. We were very healthy children. Today, at 65 I have thick bones and good bone density. I do take calcium supplements with vitamin D at night time. Calcium absorbs better when taken with vitamin D. I also take my magnesium at nighttime too.

Rebecca Mack it is my opinion that it is not better or worse. It is the very best method of butterfat preservation without refrigeration. I freeze about 12 lbs. of Spring and Summer Butter to get me through the winter. I go through about 1 qt. of Ghee every other month. It gets used but I also raise ducks so I always have about a quart of rendered duck fat. I render beef fat and pork fat for cooking too. Fat comes first in my Dietary Regimen.

David Bennett Thank you so much for the info!! I've never used any other type of fat, like you mentioned. I know this is a stupid question, but how do you render pork or beef fat? What parts do you use? Is there anything I should know before trying it myself?
      Thank you again!!!

I love your videos. I have always read and researched food I eat and when I found out how margarine was made etc I stopped eating it as I loved butter and decided if something was going to kill me it might just as well be something I loved. So, as I told everyone I knew when it was decided that chocolate was good for you, "I AM VINDICATED!" lol Thank you so very much Dr. Berry.

Will you make a video on how to feed babies starting from their first foods please. And also about baby formula. I had low supply with my first child so I had to supplement and when I read ingredients of formula I did not like what I saw. Corn syrup was the first ingredient!!!!!(((((( Who does that for poor babies?

    Dear Dr Berry,
I have always eaten a lot of butter, mainly because I really enjoy it. Having watched this post, I shall enjoy it even more.
I have recently started using high quality marscapone cheese, as a substitute for milk & cream in drinks and as a condiment. It tastes divine. The nutrition label clearly indicates zero carbs. Does this mean that marscapone cheese is a good Keto food option? Will eating some break a fast?
    Respectful Subscriber,
    Simon

I learned from my mom to eat butter cubes like other people eat chocolate covered cookie cubes. I drink heavy whip cream and eat it beaten to a buttery consistency instead of pudding, or ice cream.

Liz Rainey what a great idea! I really miss the creamy sweetness of ice cream and puddings. Heavy cream could really make a difference for me!

      @LizRainey56 6 лет назад +6

I put it in a small mixer, like the Bullet and beat it until it is buttery thick. I add a bit of vanilla or cinnamon and Truvia for that sweet feeling. My eyes want a cup full, but I can never eat more than about 1/3 cup LOL. It melts in your mouth. If you put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes, you get that chilled consistency like ice cream.

I use butter almost religiously. Would love to hear you views on the use of olive oil, I use it a lot in stove top cooking and sometimes in baking(usually extra light olive oil can be used in just about anything). Sometimes I use a combo of butter and E/L olive oil. Thanks in advance.

I make my own ghee from butter as I thought the casein A1 needed removing due to potential inflammatory effects. I wonder if this is necessary? I hope clarifying the butter does nothing to affect all the good as it’s boiled for several minutes.

I saw a doctor 20 years ago that told me to throw away my margarine and switch to butter and coconut oil. He also told me to research and to not just take his word for it. Here I am 20 years later and people are still confused as to what is good fat and what is bad fat. It seems like the so called “experts” have caused more harm than good. Fat is an important part of the diet. Many vitamins cannot be properly absorbed without ample sat-fat. Thanks for spreading the word.

Kim Seiple I also had surgical menopause in 2007. And you’re right it has been very difficult I went on a 800 cal a day liquid diet for four months! And I did lose 75 pounds. Fast forward a year later and I gain back 30 of it! 15 pounds the first couple months and then I maintained it and then after a year I gained another 15 so here I am doing the keto before I gain the other 45 back. Thank God for this doctor because I’ve learned a lot from him

We have had one at our house for years now, never gotten sick always have spreadable butter on hand.. if theres mold its bad simple as that , throw it out start over but we usually eat ours before it goes bad..

When I was stationed in Germany, while serving in the Army, I noticed how many Germans were living way beyone 90 years of age even though they consumed almost on a daily basis lard and butter. Many bakeries sold bread with lots of lard spread on them for a quick snack. My bosses mother lived to be 103 years of age having used butter and lard for cooking etc. all her life.
