I found two small broken pieces of plastic inside mine when it stopped closing, too! It's obviously a design flaw, hopefully they fixed it in newer ones but I'm skeptical.

Thank you! My Keurig is a bit different than yours, but this video clued me into how I could fix my own issue!
For mine, it wasn't stuck open, but it would not close all the way. I looked inside of it like you showed and was able to basically remove the lid cover from the top, close the Keurig using the bar, then put the lid cover back on top.

This Kuerig was given to me a number of years ago by American Friends during my time teaching in the States, to give me my morning jolt as quaint, old cafes weren't as common in El Paso as they are here in Lille. I don't use it much now, as I am back home but I'd hate to have to toss it as it was a gift. Now I don't have to! :)

Permanent fix would be bringing it in for service or returning it for credit if it is still under warranty. Costco is very generous about returns if you bought it there.

Don't expect Keurig to honor any warranty

Why not? Nothing in this workaround modifies the device in any way. If your Keurig starts doing this within the warranty period, this trick will allow you to keep making coffee until you get a chance to send the unit in for repair or replacement.
