Thank you! Thank you! I spoke with Keurig today (5/2021) and they are still saying there is no way to fix this. They offered me 25%off a new Keurig with some products. Shame on you Keurig! These systems are expensive enough without out you trying to gouge more from people. Thank you again Tim!
Just an FYI... my fix with the adhesive tape is still holding 11 months later. I never had to replace it with anything more permanent. I also didn't want to put epoxy or any chemical near my coffee so I just used that heavy duty grey two sided tape you see in the video. I am glad this video helped out some of you, and as a bonus, my son had a great time being the "director" and "camera man" and also helping hands in the video. Cheers
Tim, I really appreciated your video and your repair suggestion. I am a retired engineer and did the fix a bit differently and thought you might like to see it. I drilled a small hole in the plastic where you taped the bent washer on and used a small cable holder with a screw hole in it to screw it to the plastic. Works great! I tried to attach a picture but couldn't find a way.
Thank you very much, Tim. Your video helped me immensely. Once I figured out what needed to be accomplished, I knew exactly what needed to be done, *without* using any tools and *without* taking your Keurig apart. Step 1: Go find yourself a mini-Binder clip. Step 2: Remove the arms from said Binder Clip. Step 3: Lift the Keurig arm and slip the clip portion over the plastic rib that Tim placed his 1st piece of tape. Voila!! That's it. (Note: the clip may have a tendancy to pop off. If that's the case, use a piece of that double-sided tape to secure it.
Robert, Thanks very much with your idea. I tried the washer mechod with what I had around the house but it didn't work. Had no problem with your solution. Because of you I am a hero, the wife has a good cup of coffee.
Thanks a bunch Tim. My 2.0 cover stuck in the open position this morning. I had already begun looking on line for a replacement when I decided to check RUclips. I’m now able to shut the cover and brew. I may try your permanent fix later. I even found the broken parts that you showed in your video. Thank you again.
Thank you for this video. Mine broke last night and my immediate reaction was, "I need to get rid of this thing". I ended up fixing it in a similar way but with a plastic piece I had. The fact that this issue is prevalent and Keurig hasn't fixed it yet has me thinking my next coffee machine will be a different brand. Thanks again
Thanks for the video, got my lid back down. Disappointed that Keurig hasn't already issued a fix for this. Your video was very well done and easy to follow - good lighting and camera angles. The audio was even, clear and you spoke at a very good pace to help me follow exactly what you were doing.
I got up today and had this issue with our Keurig coffee maker. Thank you so much for this fix!! I will certainly do it! Plastic parts are NOT our friend with these critical parts. You are correct, Keurig should make a metal replacement-part for their expensive machines. Thank you again to you can your camera persons help!! ❣️
Thanks Tim - particularly useful to see how to get that top cover off without breaking it. Now to check my "useful bits and bobs" collection for a suitable spacer!
I didn’t have washers handy but I used some cardboard. I’m thrilled that my maker now works perfectly. I can’t thank you enough as this is my favorite machine yet!
Thanks. It ha been two years since you did this and Keurig has not put anything on its site to fix the problem. I like your solution and will put it into place. And thanks to your son, he did a great job as cameraman.
Thanks for the info. Vid was very helpful. At 0:42 if you look on the top part just to the left of the needle you can see that small round tube like protrusion. I found if you just use a Silicone drink straw it fits perfectly with no adhesive needed. Just cut it to length and it works fine. No washers needed.
Hey Tim, Thank you so much for this video. My mom's Keurig 2.0 had the exactly same problem. I really appreciated your video. I figured out an easier way to fix it, no need to take apart! The two pieces broke off right next to the metal rod in there. they act like a little guard to prevent the metal rod get stuck, which is causing the problem. ALL YOU NEED are zip tie, glue and a pair of tweezers!!!! So If you cut tiny pieces of the zip tie and stack two height with glue. then just insert at the place where they broke off. Problem solved!!! I can send you a picture of what it looks like. if you want.
OMG, thank you so much for this tutorial!! It's 5:30 and mine got stuck open my first attempt at coffee this morning. I thought I was going to toss m;y Keurig across the room!! Your tutorial saved my sanity, lol. I appreciate the help! :)
Thank You, I don't mind doing the first step to close the lid. I saw other videos that want me to disassemble parts first, which I don't want to do, and the never mentioned holding down that inner part that is very to access and I don't have to take apart my unit.
OMG THANK YOU ... THE OFFICE WAS GOING CRAZY... NO ONE HAD COFFEE... STUFF WAS NOT GETTING DONE... PRODUCTIVITY WAS AT A ALL TIME LOW.... now its back to normal.... thanks !
Thank-you so much. I knew if I googled “how to fix” somebody out there could help me. I’m so amazed that from your well explanation that I even fixed it. Your tutorial was well done
Thanks for the video.... was able to do the repair quite easily! Added a silicone bumper on top of the 1/2" washer to give it some extra height as it was still catching occasionally. Probably depends on how high the first washer is glued on. Used epoxy and hope it will hold for a while.
Great fix. I found one of the tabs when doing a deep clean but didn't know where it came from or what might be the result of it being broken. Then of course it locked up on the second cycle of descaling. 🤣 Now after implementing your fix, it's operating better than new.
I have a few questions; 1) What thickness is the tape you used? 2) After a bit, doesn't the tape start to pull away, cause from the heat from the coffee or the other parts around the fix, getting worm or hot? 3)Does the tape or any parts of the fix get wet with steam as you use the machine? Also a load of thanks to you and your cameraman!👍🤗😊 Mine broke this morning luckily after making my 1st cup and looked on Amazon to replace it...K250 Plus 2.0 is $285!! 😳 Found the parts inside and you're right, for what we pay for it they should do a redesign & issue a retrofit with the amount of people that have the same parts break.👍 👍👏👏 Unfortunately, they won't because Kurig is hoping more people think it can't be fixed or don't want to work around so they put it in the trash and get a new one. 😳
Thanks for the comment JS... here are a few answers. 1. The tape I used was from Home Depot.. a quick search and i see Gorilla 1 in. x 1.67 yd. Black Heavy Duty Mounting Tape is similar to what i used. its thick like a little less than 1/16" inch.. but if you get the mounting two sided tape they have that will work... 2. The area the tape goes doesnt get hot. So no worries there. No issues with heat, steam or water either. Remember a Keurig.. keeps the steam and heat mostly in the KCup.. thus the reason they can get away with plastic parts. It never fell off even when i cleaned the machine. ... On a last note.. my son was only small at the time but so proud to help dad make a video.. Just last night i was telling him that video is still helping folks.. today he is 6' tall (as tall as me). Hope this works for you!!
My Keurig Elite (purchased in August) had this problem. The piece that makes the bottom extend out so you can put your K cup in separated from the guiding tracks. I called Keurig and they have no idea of what I'm talking about. This video is the closest solution I've come across. I wish Keurig had a schematic of parts and how they work for my machine.
Tim, great video especially with your sensitivity toward window lighting glare on the effect of the footage. Im having an issue with the thin plastic piece that covers the inside upper part of the machine's "mouth" , the piece with the circular and rectangular cutouts featured in the footage at 3:56 mark of this video. I had tinkered with the machine to reset the screen n my 2.0 300 model. The machine worked and the piece was in place but recently came loose and apart from the machine. I've scoured the internet for a diagram or video to help but to no avail. I even called Keurig which told me that because that model is discontinued it couldnt help me...The piece seems to be in tact. Any thoughts?
Well that is a 'hard to identify' part.. but i know its part of the 'lid' 'arm' or handle.. not sure which they call it. Here is a picture i found of it wiringall.com/image/keurig-20-parts-diagram-8.jpg (shows the part up close). To view the picture is safe (copy paste the link into a browser), but i would suggest not surfing around that website too much (wiringall.com). It has a bunch of pop up stuff. But its safe to view the the .jpg and at least you can see clearly that part. Some searching .. i could not find the name of that part. It has several functions including holding the cup momentarily to allow the pin to retract as well has having windows (those holes.. i believe the square one) to identify a 'legit Keurig "K" cup or not'. I did not find it for sale as a single item. Mostly i found things listed as "LCD Assembly" "Arm assembly" etc for a Keurig 2.0, which is what i think we owned when this video was shot years ago. The arms i saw on eBay were pretty beat up and most did not show if that part was included. Not sure if yours broke off.. or fell off .. but it might be impossible to find a replacement, you might be better finding a used model similar to yours are scavenging it for parts if you REALLY want to fix it vs replace the unit. Good luck!
Thank you for this video, ours just broke this morning and my wife was going crazy since all the coffee places around us are shut down due to the Corona virus scare. I'll have to try to do your fix if I can get some of that tape.
Thank you so much for this video! For some reason my Keurig seems to be opening higher so I needed to use 4 washers on top. But it seems to have done the trick!
Excellent Video. Although the tabs didn't break off but one of the screws holding silver handle was missing and the other one was loose. I don't know if it was a manufacturing defect or there is a screw wedged someplace in the machine. In any event your video help me find the problem. Thanks!!
What causes the lid to stick open? Is it a faulty part? Is Keurig aware of the problem? I saw another video where you just pull the inner ring down each time and it will finally close again. Curious as to why this part breaks......any comments?

LOL.. that was my 14 year old son who needed to clip his finger nails, but hey. . at least they were clean! Ironically i had just told him to do that but was greatful he did not do it before the video because it was the only way to get the backing off that two sided tape ;)
@@timpetrosky6210 Thanks. It's sort of strange how this world is evolving. Those little tabs break so often, I wonder if you could make a side income selling a repair. Have a great day!

Do they not sell parts for these?
Great question. You probably need to reach out to Keurig with that question. This video was a easy fix for a bad design. But if you can get the part, AND if you want to dismantle the machine much more than i do in the video, i am sure you could replace that part. I have reservations on how worth it that would be. Making assumptions here, but i am sure they wont make the part cheap to buy. I do know that tearing down the machine far enough to replace those parts, is much more than i do in the video. In the video i am really just removing a handle and a cover. My son and i were proud of providing a solution at little to no cost, and with minimal effort, however, if you do go down the path or replacing the part with one from Keurig, let me know if it was worth it. Best luck to you.
I love these fix it videos! Thank you.
Did anybody do this without unscrewing anything? I want to do this fix and it looks like you can just mount the washers without dismantling any parts
If you don't want to unscrew stuff, if you can see the area where it need to have the washer attached.. you should have no issue sticking something in place there. Just use good sticky two sided stuff. Optionally you can just pull the bracket down each time you use it.. in the video at 0:35 seconds. Let me know if that helps
Excellent video thank you!
Thank you for your help. Save me some money.
Is there danger in using super glue? It gets really hot, could the glue melt and seep down into the coffee.
Thats why i used that tape.. .mine has been in place since i made the video.. no issues
3D Printed an Angle. Used Super Glue and it works better than new.

If your not joined.. you should join Thingiverse and post your stuff there. You'll find my stuff (many different things)
Have you uploaded your design anywhere
Any for sale🤷🏻♀️
I’d like to buy one. Please post a link.
Great video and fix, but it didn't work for me. The bar in the back still was catching where the tabs broke off.
So sorry to hear that.. did one of those little tabs fall in there and get stuck? In my model, there should be nothing that can catch on anything. Or perhaps something else is broken in there ?
Mine says lower handle, but I am able to lower it, but it still says lower handle.
I would suggest trying 3 things for a quick fix.
1. Open, remove any k-cup. make sure there is nothing stuck in there and the needle is clean.
2. Remove and reseat your water reservoir.
3. Try unplugging it for about 5 minutes.
Thanks! Problem solved!
Thank you.
What are the sizes of washers?

I do not but someone on this list of comments might. I think a bent washer just worked fine.
@@timpetrosky6210 Thanks. It's sort of strange how this world is evolving. Those little tabs break so often, I wonder if you could make a side income selling a repair. Have a great day!
Thank you Jordan Lee Peterson!
If you have a 3D printer, there is a fix you can download and print: www.thingiverse.com/thing:3966281
