Thanks for the video. My wires weren’t loose, but I added a step and that did the trick. There’s a flat strip of metal that makes contact with the black part where those wires go into (if you open and close the lid, you’ll see it pull away from it and then go back to contact when closed). I wet a q-tip a tiny bit and slipped it in between these parts in hopes that I could clean it off. My guess was that some dirt or dust was in there and blocking the contact from making an electrical connection. That worked for me, so also try cleaning that connection whether your wire is loose or not.
I took mine apart as you describe but my wire was not out. I played around really did nothing but when I plugged it in it worked. I have been without coffee since yesterday afternoon. Thankyou I love this coffee maker. I have a brand new one in a box that the warranty has run out on and I just keep saving this one. Thanks so much.
I fixed this message on my 2.0 by unplugging it and using my kitchen sprayer and spraying under where the needles and sensors are! I tried this guys suggestion first but my wire was intact.
I reluctantly bought a new K-Duo (On its way from Keurig after I called the helpline to describe the issue)... They went through the standard help tips, but didn't know what the lower handle error was. I really love my K500 and all of the newer brewers are not using the LCD anymore with a clock to schedule Auto-On/Off. I was very close to recycling it and ran into this video randomly searching for K500 "lower handle" error... I resoldered the wire and it is back in action! :) -Thanks Again!
You have to pull the metal tab covering... Slide it down the wire. Its a tight fit...I had to strip the wire a little to get enough wire to solder. I guess you could use electrical tape to cover it if the rubber covering is too tough to reuse.
Thanks!! Not much worse than waking up on a Saturday morning and not being able to make a cup of coffee. Googled the error, found this video and ten minutes later, I was having my coffee :)
I have to say, you saved my life 😆. I have this exact same keurig and that was the problem! I really did not want to get a new one because this one is awesome. Do you know about the magnet trick? I can make 16 oz coffees which is my favorite! The magnet changes your screen options!
You are on to something good here. One thing I would suggest is soldering it. The second terminal down - should have solder on it already if you don’t want to bother stripping the insulation and tinning the wire end.
Thanks for the video! I tried that and the wire didn't seem to be loose. After I put everything back together I got one cup of coffee then back to the "please lower handle message." Any ideas what to do next?

We have our Keurig back! Thank you! had to buy a soldering tool but much less expensive than a new coffee maker.

You are a godsend! I really love this coffee maker and didn't want to trash it!

Fixed my issue as well. Soldered back on and working again. Thank you!
This totally works! House wife can do it! Mine needed the wire to be striped and I had to electrical tape it.

How’d you get access to the end point to solder it? Like the video shows, it’s not accessible very easily

Bless you!!!! You just saved me the purchase of a new 2.0. The fix was spot on accurate.
