    • @aaronschwartz6289
      @aaronschwartz6289 6 месяцев назад +19

      I’ve always been confused by this line. Is Howard saying that he is incredibly incredibly selfish? Is he proud of that statement? Idk
      Also, I think the switch with Tony flipped in the first Avengers when he was carrying the nuke into the void of space. That’s here his character seemed to take a turn imo

    • @TasteTheRambo
      @TasteTheRambo 5 месяцев назад +53

      @@aaronschwartz6289yes, he's saying that he's self-serving. And he's saying that he's worried that, if he had a son, his son would turn out exactly like him. So when Tony sacrificed his life for the greater good, he broke the generational curse of selfishness, which would have made his dad more proud than anything else Tony accomplished.

      Dude probably decided to forgive Howard cuz while that dude may appear as cruel and apathetic to him, he too was busy keeping the world safe by running SHIELD. He also might've figured, "man, I got my second chance, tis time for everyone else to finally get theirs" and thus chose to do his snap even when he had to kinda abandon his daughter, kinda like how Howard abandoned him to keep running SHIELD.

    As heartwarming as this scene is, it also explains a lot about how Howard tried to raise Tony. He was fully aware of his own failings as a person and had hoped for a baby girl in the hopes that his kid would be less likely to turn out like him. He was wildly nervous about parenthood and pretty much winged it; it didn't help that he had a lousy father growing up and didn't have a positive example to follow. God I love these 4 minutes.

      so true. God knows how many sons wish they could've heard something like this. I mean Tony's character represents that exactly, grew up never thinking his dad loved or cared for him, but over time, especially with Iron Man 2, he realised differently. But most of us aren't that lucky, and many of us never hear their dad express their feelings or pride, and even when they do it comes far too late or far too little. As someone who grew up with an abusive dad, this storyline definitely hits hard.

      All men, up until a certain point of their lives understate their relationships with their fathers, which is ironic, because when they become fathers, they still clash with their own sons, even after experiencing these moments of clarity with their own fathers.
      This reminds me so much of my father and myself. I am very lucky that I still have him and he's seemingly healthy as an ox for his age, but good god did we have wars when I was growing up.
      Life has so many ways of softening your heart and showing you perspectives. Through the past year and a half we've dealt with my mother's stroke and the death of my brother. And its so strange that it took these two life events to make us closer. While I'm approaching 40, for the first time in our lives, my father and I see each other for what we never say in each other: Just two guys trying to figure things out in the world. I had never considered that my father was once a young guy just working, figuring shit out, looking for women, smoking with his friends, laughing at shit he shouldn't be laughing at. Just... a guy. And somewhere through his experience in fatherhood, he never considered the same about me.
      My brother/his son's death really took he and I to a different place. It'll always be the most tragic thing in the world that this is what it took. But history is history and something had to happen.

    Scene really hits my gut as my Pops passed away and it caught me off guard because my dad was a strong dude who put in 20 years in the oilfield. He also had a drug habit that took him at the young age of 47. We didn’t really end on good terms as I didn’t approve his drug use, if I had just one day with the man I’d just sit and get to know him. That’s one thing I regret not really knowing my pops: his ambitions, his dreams. And at the end of the day give him a hug, handshake and a kiss on the cheek and thank him for working his ass off for me. He may not have been perfect but he was a good dude at heart. Miss you much Pops.

    • @kazzityangel
      @kazzityangel 2 года назад +1

      Well that's kind of the point. In the comics, Jarvis was his loyal butler to Tony's father just like the movies and in the show "Agent Carter". As a little boy Tony was close to Jarvis, he was like an older father figure and that is why Tony eventually named his central computer system Jarvis. Tony did that as a way to remember someone he considered a guardian from childhood. You'll notice he smiled at him in this scene.

    • @thephoenix7090
      @thephoenix7090 2 года назад

      yea jarvis was the stark family butler, jarvis took care of tony when he was a kid and tony was attached to him and that's why is AI is named jarvis, and that's why he smiled at jarvis right in this scene, acknowledging him as his butler and guardian

And also knowing his feelings about his dad and how he never felt he was a good father. Now he’s in his dad’s shoes and understands the amount of responsibility he had on his shoulders being the smartest man in the country. Even that awkward ahh hug at the end tht he just says screw it and goes for. Tony showed about as much emotion there than he’d ever let anyone see. This movie rlly wrapped Tony’s story well

    This scene gets me every single time. I'm even tearing up as I sit here and type this.
We're not going to be here forever.
    Anyway, whoever wrote this scene surely must've felt all of this at some point in time. Go hug the old man when you get a chance.
