For the MacBook 2021, with the M1 Pro chips, instead of Command + R, you need to shutdown the computer. After the computer is completely turned off, press and hold the power button until it goes into the recovery mode.

Huseyin has the real solution for the Mac I am working on, and all all he did was write a comment. Don't waste your time watching this video if you have an a2338 model or later. Just power down and hold the power button and don't let go when power it back on. I wish I could subscribe to a Huseyin's comment 😀
WARNING! At 3:37 after formatting the hard drive DO NOT shut down the computer! Return to the MacOS Utilities window and follow the rest of the steps. After restarting the computer it causes an error making it impossible to re-install Mac OS. You will just get an error saying the install on the server has been damaged. Once this happened I had to recover my drive from a time machine back up and start all over again. This was not made clear in the video. Don't make the same mistake I made.
Guys please noted that you will need an internet connection when selecting restore mac OS. Seems like he missed out to mention that. So i just did mine without an internet connection, so mine is stuck and cannot log into mac until stable internet to reinstalling the os.

What if you forgot your password for the iCloud or laptop? In my case it's the laptop password I forgot and want to reset it it start fresh.. would you the steps remain the same?

I followed these instructions. Chose the APFS option as told. Then I When I try to reinstall I get this message. “Could not create a pre boot volume for APFS install”. Now I’m stuck.
I have a newer MacBook 💻 pro and the only difference for us is once it’s powered off instead of command +R we “hold the power button” once the option icon pops up click it then pick up where you left off 🤝
For the M1 macs, shutdown the computer and then hold the power button until it shows the apple logo with some subtitles blow saying to remove the figure from the power button.

Holding Power button is the new way to enter Recovery Menu for M1 macs.
