apple is a very annoying company. they in fact keep your crendentials at a partition you cannot delete and even associates the hardware information with it. you cannot just wipe it, it retains the old find my or icloud emails of the previous user and will require their password to continue
Great advice. I recently bought an Apple “Certified Refurbished” MacBook Pro but it still retained the previous owner’s user info. Good thing I am an honest person. But that stuff obviously had to go for any other reason so it would not interfere with my system. Now I plan to erase my mini to convert it into a server. Unless you all know something I don’t know I have to hardwire connect to a keyboard to to complete task. But I don’t plan to sell any Mac for a very long time.
Excellent presentation. Well organized, focused, easy to understand, and complete. You might want to add one item: the need for EITHER a wired ethernet connection OR an active wifi connection to internet to reinstall OS. Other than that, perfect!!

Hi i did all the steps you mentioned on my first MAC and it worked perfectly but with the second one when i wipe the internal drive and follow all your steps i get to part where it reboots up, MACos screen is on, i click continue and i keep getting this error message '"the recovery server could not be found' with a big yellow triangle and a exclamation mark in the middle. What does this mean?
I’m selling mine and I’m worried that whoever buys it will be able to see something of mine when they use it even if I have factory reset it and everything so when u say sign out of ur accounts, do u JUST mean Apple apps? Like the ones you mentioned, or do you mean apps that aren’t pre-installed and u download urself… like discord or WhatsApp or something like that? If you delete those apps (which I’ve done with mine) does it automatically sign you out so that anyone who logs in using their Apple ID and everything cannot then see ur past stuff on it?? I’m worried about it 😭
All good, but the only thing missing is how do you close down from the last Welcome page. All I see is a continue button, not a Shut Down button, so that when the new owner starts the apple, the welcome screen is the actual start screen ? Thanks in advance.

It did not work bc when i wanted to reinstall macOS it says that the installer information on the recovery server is damaged so my format couldnt continue 😔
When I did all this, my iMac was on High Sierra, and when I came to the point of downloading the OSX from the internet, it is unlikely it can go backward to the OSX it suggested, Mountain Lion, so then it said "a required download is missing" in order to install Mountain Lion, so now it seems locked onto the grey screen with no way back.
I got to the point where I could install... but it will not allow anything to be installed on the drive? I can get to Disk Utility, but the Disk is unable to be installed upon as it says it's Locked?

I did the reset OK, but when I go to reinstall, it says there’s nothing to reinstall. I tried it two or three times. Any advice?. The only thing that comes up now is top left. Reinstall shut off no drop-down menus. Nothing basically a brand new Mac that I reset. Thanks hopefully you can help. I couldn’t proceed because it’s not reinstalling anything. Basically, it just won’t not let me reinstall Mac OS again.

Why would we need to sign out of everything? The hard drive will be wiped anyway. Any reason why?

After you get the welcome screen at the end of the process, do you just power the machine down manually?
