Bill Veeck suggested to Mr. Wrigley that growing ivy on the walls would help beautify the park. Veeck was enamored with the ivy that he had seen at the minor league ballpark in Indianapolis in 1936, and Mr. Wrigley loved the idea. Ivy was attached to the walls for the first time at Wrigley Field for the 1937 season.
my first game was a grade school field trip in 1976. We lost to the SF Giants that day. It was great seeing Josê Cardinal in center field. I was 8 pushing 9 that year.
Great video man. I gotta be about your age cause 1989 was my first Cubs game too. I remember getting outta school at 3 o’clock and running as fast as I could to get home and turn on WGN to catch the second half of the game if I was lucky. Unfortunately today I can’t even watch a single inning of it cause you need that special channel with the right cable package to see it. It’s disgusting. I made it to only 1 game this year and the prices for beer and food were absolutely outrageous!!! Corporate greed has pretty much ruined my experience over at Wrigley. It’ll always be a part of my youth but I doubt I’ll be back there anytime soon. But again thanks for the video. Much appreciated 👍
Thank you for watching! Yes, it’s definitely gotten more expensive to attend and harder to watch on TV because of the Marquis Network. I’m not sure it was ever something we as fans even wanted or needed.
Great job Mike! I grew up in the Chicago area and spent a lot of time at Wrigley Field. Things have really changed a lot but glad and appreciative of Rickett's family's investment in bringing the ballpark up to date. I had opening day tickets for several years and remember some of the challenges in Chicago weather during that time of the year. Thanks so much for sharing this great memory with me and others too. I really appreciate it.
nice video it made me remember what used to be there when i was a kid. 55 years ago

Love hearing about other’s memories about Wrigley. 1976 was at the tail end of the PK Wrigley era.
