I found this way more confusing than helpful. For example when combining the streamdeck with the Atem you don't really give examples of what you should program the streamdeck to do. Thanks for the content. Unfortunately it left me confused rather than informed.
How does OBS not enter into this conversation? Whether live streaming or making VODs I would still contest that OBS is used by more creators than any other software suite available right now. Love the content, keep it up!!
I'm so glad this was helpful for you! 🎉 Hope that maybe you'll be able to stop by and say hey during one of our live streams someday! (Friday at 10:00am PT) 🙂
It really comes down to inputs you need because you hit a device limit. There are cards that will allow more HDMI or SDI inputs. For most people you can get by with one or two cams and either the communication software (Zoom, Teams, Webex, etc) or something like OBS, Ecam, etc. You can get much more professional results and look more professional while streaming, by using a switcher. Especially if you are streaming someone other than yourself. ATEM mini is great but for a little more money RGBlink is awesome. I actually recommend it over the ATEM mini pro. However if you are recording on top of streaming, I highly recommend either of the ATEM iso switchers. Being able to record each input separately is a huge time saver for post production. A stream deck is an awesome extra to make things easier. However it is not a necessity. Macros and keyboard shortcuts are available to use as well. I just wish BMD would add assignable hot keys to their ATEM software. That said my extreme ISO should be here this week. 😁
Did I miss it or did you not discuss the blackmagic software that comes free with the ATEM. I use the Mini and mini pro together with all kinds of macros to pre produce many different things including split screens, fades, green screen etc. I never even touch the hardware during presentations....Seems like you have a bias against the atem.
I hope this works out! Everything I’ve been looking for! I have 2ATEMs and Elgato capture card and three stream decks! I’m gonna hit that subdue button if I can get all of this correct in my head after watching this video

Thanks for this but you left much for me to figure out. In what situation is any of this better . Stream deck is not a switcher so what does it do for you More importantly so much break in conversation makes me feel that I am trying to learn from a non confident source ....
I use ATEM + Streamdeck + ECamm. As you said, it takes the load off your computer. It's more cost-effective... if ECamm (we don't like vmix) was available for PC, then I would change my opinion. Our video editing computer (custom build) would have cost like $15k in a similar mac.
Luria, I'd love to hook three cameras to my MacBook Pro, a Stream Deck, and a Rodemaster II. Can you tell me which dock/hub you use to bring all these peripherals into your MacBook? Thank you very much.
@@LiveStreamingPros I also have the CalDigit that I was using as a dock and was fine with it charging the computer at the same time and also taking some of the load off the computer. However, I just ordered a new M2 MacBook Pro and the advice it to charge the computer when it is not in use, and then use it til the battery is just about ready for a recharge. Rinse and repeat. Apple suggests not using the computer while it is charging. With the Caldigit, my computer will constantly be charging when in use, won't it? I don't want to kill my brand new computer right out of the box and diminish the battery life! Thoughts?
New and a Q! I recently had to replace an aging iMac and chose the M1 Mac Mini. I had been using OBS to blend DSLR and smartphone inputs to Zoom for piano lessons (side and overhead views). Sadly, the NDI plugin for OBS doesn’t run on the Apple chip yet - so Zoom is unable to recognize the virtual output from OBS. Would the ATEM allow me to do the simultaneous views? Are you aware of any compatibility issues with M1 Macs? Are there software options other than OBS? I should probably mention I’m recently retired (yay!) and have time to experiment, but not yet ready for anything so involved as streaming - yet. Many thanks in advance!
I don't think you can compare a StreamDeck with an Atem Mini, they are two different instruments that have different functions, as will be explained later in the video. As for streaming software there are professional ones like Vmix and Wirecast, it depends on what we need to do. It is a sector that passes from the home to the professional one through considerable expenses of hardware, cameras, PTZ, cables, accessories and so on and so forth.
You are a beautiful happy woman and thank you so much for your kind information, I was struggling and trying to understand software and hardware, now I got it from you. LOve and respect from New York!
Great video :) I have a few questions.... I have obs setup whilst streaming and I use streamdeck XL to control all the scenes within obs. I have my cameras x3 plugged into an anker usb hub that is powered, plugged into the wall. The cameras are all plugged into elgato cam links. Would you reccomend plugging my cameras into an atem or a dock station instead?
If I have the capture cards...Can I use stream dec to switch from camera to camera or do I need An Atem.???...Also If I have an ATEM...DO I still use my capture cards??? Thanks for your video

Yes, we find that vMix offers more functionality and grows with your streaming needs. Also, the way it maximizes the graphic card really helps your computer avoid issues...
No, we haven't had any issues using that combo - and yes, we are using the most-current version of the OS. Maybe try checking with ATEM support about any issues you are having?
@@LiveStreamingPros Thank You, I love your videos. I haven't ordered on as of yet, I just saw a few videos online where people have had some issues. Maybe it was in the past. Do you really need a ATEM Mini or can you just use a Elgato Stream deck to connect more than 2 cameras and switch between them?
Not at all, you can absolutely stream without ever adding an ATEM to your set up! And even the Stream Deck (which we LOVE) isn't necessary to get started. It just makes it a little easier to run a show by yourself. Do they make a camera switcher that is with wireless remote? So if I am doing an example in a class, I don't want to run over and change the camera but be able to do it on the fly TIA
The stream deck is for switching views that you already have connected to your computer. The Atem is for bringing sources into your computer. Does that help?
love the video but you can do the same thing with the stream deck with a diy macro keyboard for like next to nothing and use obs a free software, and I do animated graphics and client work. As not a great way of using a cameras but you can use your phone, and you can have serval phones. Great way to get started, I have done some client work where everyone was remote and we all just used discord and I screen captured for cameras and it worked out fine, so if you needed you could do it in a pinch
Can you explain how the stream deck is not a replacement for the atem? Ive seen plenty of streamers only use a stream deck and still switch cameras. Even in your video, I see you switching cameras without the atem?
As I understand you can set up "scenes" also with atem using Macros. And you can bring macros up with streamdeck(companion). Question I have searched answer for is: Can you combine a macro and scene button so I dont have to push 2 buttons at once to do the fancy actions? Can I do the combining inside companion or stream deck software? Thanks for the great content!
My video (using canon 5d dslrs and video i put cards) seems to drag/lag by just a hair (in video) with ecamm + stream deck .... why do you think this is ?
There are many things that could cause this...maybe your computer is struggling to do what you are asking, could be an issue with your capture card (if you are using one, or if not, using one might help), a bad port, cable issues, etc. Check out this video for help troubleshooting: ruclips.net/video/7fKhS2ZTi0M/видео.html
Yep as long as the streaming platform allows you to use a virtual cam or has RTPM service. At work we found Webex won't work with the native vcam in OBS but it will work with the older plugin.
Why are you using Ecamm Live? Do you not hear the audio artifacts and the phasing going on. There is a weird and annoying swirling (phasing) in the audio. Video looks OK. Just trying to help you out, seems like you have a lot of information to help in the streaming community.
just a heads up... your volume is really low, so i had my speakers cranked to hear you and then when an ad came on it was soooooo loud! might want to boost your volumes in the future ;)
i did really like this video it was very informative. I wish you talked more about the stream deck but I will see if you have a video on that alone. If I can find 2 capture cards cheaper than the one you have I might go with a streamdeck. The Atem is intriguing as being it's own "capture card". Thanks!
@@LiveStreamingPros LOL Yeah but just because the other ones are more expensive doesnt make a $350.00 price inexpensive. If one house cost 20 million dollars and a another house (same house) cost 10 million dollars do you still think the average person would think 10 million dollars is inexpensive? Which ATEM allows Ecamm to see each camera as a multiple source so I can use Ecamm’s built-in switcher?
None, the ATEM is seen as a single source, so you have to switch to the device you want first on the ATEM and then that is fed to Ecamm.
