I have bought an Atem mini and am just loving it. Linked 3 computers catching different zoom screens when were fed to obs where different scenes were created using obs and the obs out put again wemt to zoom as virtual webcam as an input for all in the meeting to see with all effects and also streamed from to zoom to youtube and fb via restream.. It was amazing experience. Atem mini made it all possible. It awesome and is every bit of whats presented in this video...
I actually had an ATEM Mini Pro when they first came out. They were in high demand and low supply so I got it to somebody else who could do more with it. eCamm Live did all that I needed. I pressed play thinking, I been down this road, but I'm gonna watch cause Tom's awesome. I LOL'd at "the whole point is to make your audience think you're even more awesome." Mission accomplished bro!
I wish I had a HS teacher like you back in the day! I use to work w/a local tv station back in the day, & you’re right.....those consoles were $1,000’s of dollars! And analog back then. Technology is AMAZING!!!!
Funny enough I was just looking at this exact same switcher two days ago and here your are doing a review on it. Your break down definitely made it less ATEM-Imdating and laid out it’s straightforward functions.
I can only recommend it!! I got the ISO version and it's awesome - using it as a virtual trainer and would NOT ever wanna miss it. Thanks for the review... :)
Love this review. It is clear you are a teacher with the comprehensive flow of your presentation. Questions: 1. do you find your rodecaster pro redundant in any way (audio-wise of course) to use together with the Atem mini 2. can you record a streaming session in its entirety and use as a future webinar or presentation 3. What specifically did you use (item) to be able to turn the Atem on and off 4. What advantagges would the Atem Mini pro or ISO offer that you feel the Mini doesn't have. In other words why would one consider either of these instead of the A. Mini.
Thanks for the kind words! Here are a few answers: 1. Nope, not redundant at all because of how many audio inputs it offers, plus the sound pads! 2. Yes! I've used OBS to record from the Mini, but the ATEM Mini Pro gives you the option to record directly to an attached USB drive. 3. These are the ones I ordered: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JW5SDZD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 4. The higher end models offer mulitview output, the ability to record as mentioned earlier, and a few other "pro" features. They're awesome- I just didn't need them for my workflow and wanted to keep things as simple/inexpensive as possible.
For 3 years I was working with the ATEM 1 4k - it's a beast but it too needed all the inputs to be the same or it just didn't want to work. Frustrating but once it was up, it was good. BMD announced the ATEM Mini Pro ISO - it adds recording of up to 5 separate H.264 video streams. I am leaning to the Pro mainly because of the Multi-view - I really liked it on the ATEM 1. Thanks Tom for the walk-thru on this!
I think the Pro is absolutely the sweet spot for someone like you. Definitely adds some cool features. This was one of the few times I was able to go with the cheapest/most basic option and I love it! 😁
Great video 😀 Combine it with Elgato Stream Deck, Companion and macros, you have a really powerful setup. I operate my ATEM Mini Pro, only from my Stream Deck. I have a button, when I start a “show” that will switch to cam 1, , activate my mic, put my computer on preview, start recording, and after 5 sec. put a lower third on screen. When I end the show, I have another button that will switch to a still with my logo, fade out the audio, and after 5 sec. stop the recording. I have a Raspberry Pi to playback video, and great transitions, also controlled by macros, operated from the Stream Deck. I know it is a lot more advanced, it’s just that I’m a Nerd (also a drummer) 😉
Tom Buck Start with the simple stuff, and take it from there. You don’t need to master every aspect, you will learn as time goes by 😉 I create ATEM Mini Pro episodes, only that it’s in danish 😊 Best regards the Nerd 🤓
@@tfechtenburg I can agree - I use the same configuration but the Streamdeck just für macros or/and if I operate from a distance so I don't have to move the Atem mini.
I work at a small private college, and my Atem mini gets used daily. I now have the regular mini and the Mini Pro ISO. I used the ISO last night so we could livestream an event and get the full recording. Afterward it took me less than 10 minutes to edit and export the final recording.
@@Minotaurus007 recording Audio depends upon what kind of event we're working. I usually try to get 3 audio recordings for redundancy. Usually we get 1 USB recording off the the digital console we're using. I usually set up a shotgun mic into a camera and do 1 recording in camera. Lastly I'll usually set up a field recorder as a final back up. If we're using an Atem Mini Pro ISO I also get the main recording as well as the ISO recordings all to a Samsung T5 from the USB out of the Mini Pro.
Grass Valley Group led the way for switchers back in the day. I used them in different settings. Every station I went to had a GVG. Plus, my friend's mother worked for the company.
Man, I was watching another youtuber and was wondering how they kept switching cameras so seamlessly. A very good review Tom and keep up the good work!
I put the Atem Mini in my Amazon cart recently and 'saved it for later'. I checked out your video, which btw is very informative, and put it back in my cart. Dropping the hammer on this one. Cheers!
Nice! I hope you really love it. I definitely recommend looking at the features of the Pro version to see if you need them. I personally don't, but many people do.
No idea how this popped into my feed but glad it did. It’s making me think a bit more as I slowly assemble a streaming / presentation environment. Since it outputs in 1080p only, are you capping your inputs at that resolution? How is it on heat dissipation? My only worry is using this w/ a MacBook Air. I have a late model but I worry about processor intensive accessories and the dropped frames... anyhow, on an info level, this video has been top shelf. Thank you! ✅
Glad you're here! I can't say specifically about how it'd work with a MacBook Air, but in general, if your streaming apps are running ok now, it should be fine. The computer sees the ATEM as a webcam, so I don't think there's a lot of processing power there. The ATEM does have built in fans to help with the heat. I have mine on 7 or 8 hours a day 5 days a week with no issues.
Came for the review, stayed for the wholesomeness. But for real, been a sub for a while, stellar work and pacing. Love that you have an index in the description. And I promise this is not a review of your review channel. ...!
Absolutely love my ATEM Mini. It has been one of the best pieces of equipment that I purchased for my mobile streaming setup. So much power and versatility for (relatively) little money. The only thing that would make it better for me is multiview. But this coupled to a Video Assist 12g and Ecamm Live Pro is crazy powerful. And I completely agree with you about the lack of power button. Don’t understand that decision as there is a ton of space for a power switch.
The Atem mini is great. I used it to film a multi-cam meeting with a bank and was able to just have it on the floor below my tripod and tap the buttons with the tip of my shoe. It almost eliminated the need to edit. All I had to do was use the in camera footage for sections that I was not happy with
Not having multiview was why I had to wait for the Pro to come out. Pro ISO seems a bit silly though. I would always use in-camera recordings anyway if I needed them for an edit.
Oh I just realized you not only have the same tech setup as me w/the ATEM and the Rodecaster, you have the same IKEA chair, ha! And Aaron’s videos are great, plus he does a lot of live Q&A sessions for people who have questions. I usually recommend both of you, so it was nice to see that merging!
Of all the videos I've had to watch regarding my online teaching and live stream set up this has been by far the most helpful! Going to purchase this immediately
Hey Tom, nice review. I just purchased an ATEM mini (two months ago) and finally in the process of setting up and figuring everything out. Aaron is a great source for sure. Thanx, -keith
Tom, nice job. Also appreciate the info on Aaron Parecki. I'm preparing to launch a RUclips channel, I do have the Mini, three cameras and other gear to make it work nice. Thanx Tom:-) -keith

Big yes to the screen sharing being better for video if you do it via the ATEM. It's because Zoom is optimised for still or low quality video when you switch on screen sharing. I think it drops to something like 12fps, which makes sense if you're sharing a document or presentation - it doesn't change much from frame to frame, so you get better quality screen sharing. On video though? It's hopeless. So yeah, I've been doing just as you have - screen sharing over HDMI. It's so much better.
Hi can I ask a question here: I feed my PPTs and iPad screen into Zoom through the ATEM (instead of Zoom screen sharing) which I find better because I can use sketching programs as whiteboards and also do PIP over slides with a greenscreen. Did you say there was a better way of doing that? Or did you mean video through screen sharing is at 12fps only? The video feed through the ATEM comes across really well when I look at the recordings...
Stephan Melchior Hi Stephen - you’re doing it the way Tom is doing it, which is what I’d recommend as well. If there’s a video component to what you’re sharing at all it’s always going to play better via the ATEM than via screen sharing.
This was a very informative, & educational video. From studio equipment, professional equipment, & something I can buy. Thank you for posting this video. You sir have a new subscriber. Dam... I don't have a pc. She died in a blue puff of smoke. But my new rig will have this. My Space Station could very well use this..
I only saw that you made a video about this device and I purchased it I only finished watching the video after my purchase you should know you're a great salesman and you convinced me cuz others didn't convince me it but as soon as I saw you did make a video about it and as you said in the beginning I'm this is going to be a very good review and I paid it for my own money cuz I don't have sponsors I just bought it and I'm hoping to be as satisfied with this devices you are
I'm sure you'll really like it! I'm definitely not trying to sell anything, but I do get really enthusiastic about tools that are genuinely helpful and I like to talk about them/share what I know.
It's great! I'm sure customers would love it and there's an infinite number of ways that you can customize the overall setup to suit your specific needs/workflow.
The best feature of the Mini Pro is it is also a hardware-based encoder. You can stream to YT, FB and Twitch natively as well as RTMP CDN's. We have one for a month now and after kicking the tires, it's a nice combo of switcher/streamer. When you consider the price - it's even better. Only drawback - it gets really warm (not sure if that will impact long term durability?)
Just found your channel, great video thank you! I wasn’t going to subscribe but then I noticed your office walls in this video! “SUPER RAD!” You got another subscriber here!!!
Excellent review. There is many models ATEM Mini, ATEM Mini Pro and ATEM Mini Pro ISO. Pro model can stream Live, ISO model can help save all different camera streams separately.
They're all awesome- I just wanted to go with the least expensive since I'm only doing basic switching. I also know myself, and if I'm spending $600 or so on a higher end model, I'd eventually end up getting the $2000 overkill version that I absolutely don't need. So this protects me from myself!
⚠️ It can't adjust the sources resolution if you use different cameras as inputs. I have 4 câmeras, Canon, but they show image inside a frame. There's no tool to cut, to adjust, to size, to frame properly a source. This is fundamental. Everything begins by adjusting the source. 😮😮
My school finally order the stuff and we were able to live stream our homecoming game with the ATEM mini pro and everyone was happy and now the school is wanting me to live stream a lot more than just games
Great Job thank you! I've seen a lot of product videos on the ATEM line and this is the best. I totally agree on the ATEM Mini I love it, I have a ATEM TV Studio 8 camera HD Mixer with Multi View too and I hate that, because it's not at all format flexible. To be honest with only 3 or 4 cameras you would have to be a pretty poor director to need multi view, Preview is quite sufficient.
Yes! Just signed up to you podcast list.... Knew I would be able link in with you! Atem Mini or Pro? Which do you think just for a podcast? I think the mini will do for now
If you need the ability to use multiview and see all of your angles, or to record directly to a hard drive, then the Pro is the way to go. Otherwise the base model will have you covered.
I agree with you black magic products have been hit or miss for me but I will definitely be getting the Atem so I can stream from my laptop and let the atem handle the heavy lifting for rendering
Thanks so much for a lot of practical info, I am a preacher from India and in India. We don't have all this stuff easily available. I just got an BlackMagic ATEM MINI. How can I make computer monitor into a multi view monitor, since I cant afford to buy a multi view monitor and they are not available here yet? Regards-David Amar
Super concise and fun (!) review and great editing. Thanks! In your experience, what's the most stable, foolproof solution if someone (say, me) would have to solo-livestream workouts on RUclips? Asking for reliability because I can't be close to the camera and PC to check if everything is going well while doing the workout. Just plugging a (good) webcam into RUclips Studio? Right now, I have my partner doing it for me (Sony A7III into Elgato HD60 S+ into OBS Studio into RUclips Studio), and it works fine most of the time, but there sometimes are hiccups like OBS "forgetting"/losing the camera and needing to reset it while streaming (or same thing with the Rode Wireless Go, where again only switching cameras back and forth helps), which I wouldn't be able to take care of if I were doing it solo. And second question if I may (thanks a lot in advance): The only way to mitigate the fact that the ATEM Mini doesn't play video is to connect a second PC, right? Right now I have a countdown animation in color keyed in OBS. It doesn't seem like there's an easy workaround to achieve the same thing on the ATEM. Again, thanks a lot for taking the time to read this or even answer.
RUclips Studio is good as long as you don't need to do much with scenes/graphics/etc. I LOVE Ecamm Live and it's been so reliable for me. The ATEM has also been rock solid overall.
Hey Tom! Another amazing video! I really enjoy your approach and your "pedagogical" methods! lol... I'd love watch a video of how you set up your studio. All the nit and gritty details right down to the connectors, cable management, lighting, sound, and the wonderful wires + connecting hardware needed. I'm in the process of massively leveling up my home office/ studio currently. Your videos are very helpful along with a handful of others I'm watching too. Of all of them, I really love your approach and style. Probably one of the reasons your channel has explosive growth! Anyhow... Hopefully you'll get a chance to read this comment and prepare a video on the studio topic. To be honest, it does get a bit confusing and then frustrating when the gear doesn't work out just the right way. Case in point... Lighting options and getting the right gear (regardless of price) to get the correct temperature, depth of field, and intensity. For sound, I bought the rodecaster pro after watching your video. Now looking at the Atem mini. It sounds like you'd level up to the Atem Mini Pro, is that right? Now, even more, content ideas about how to set up the systems to get the best sound quality. I also added a Shure SM7B, Rode PodMic, and Sennheiser HMB 300 to my gear list when I purchased the rodecaster pro. I'm going all-in with my content creation in 2021. I'm working on learning as much as possible to crush it, just like you. Anyhow... Very long comment. Keep up the great work Tom! I truly appreciate you. =)
Thank you for the kind words Andrew! I've done a studio tour video, but it doesn't go into all the little tidbits of connectors and whatnot. Maybe that could be a good idea? It might end up being long, but I'm kind of interested in it.
Excellent video, Tom. I was thinking about buying one of these and now I'm SOLD! I especially appreciate that you demonstrated the functionality with Zoom. Definitely makes for more interesting virtual training.
It really is! I definitely recommend checking out the Pro model though. This one is perfect for me, but the features of the Pro seem to be the sweet spot for most people.
Hello Tom, Most professional equipment is designed to operate 24/7 and does not have or need a power switch. The power surges from turning on and off and heat cycling are detrimental to the electronics. Love all of your jump cuts. KEN
That's been a concern, but I'm always worried about leaving things on all the time (and this thing especially is targeted towards home consumers). The fire department gave a presentation to my elementary school when I was in like the first grade and it's kept me terrified to this day.😬
@@tombuck Tom, There is great wisdom in unplugging the toaster, coffee pot and counter oven when you are going away for a time. They are not protected by fuses or internal circuit breakers like the electronics are. I would classify the ATEM as a pro-sumer device and as such it has built in protection for power related events or internal failure. The cost of a power switch is not the reason there is none.
Love how easy to understand your show’s content. Are you planning on chatting about the Atem mini pro extreme? And maybe if you can chat about bringing it video to your show. I’m planning a show that will have clips of the guess content to reference. And current the atem will not let you have pre recorded clips to fire off during your interview.
The Extreme might be too extreme for me, but keep an eye on Aaron Parecki's channel because I know he just got one. Who knows though, maybe one day I'll get one! As for video clips, I handle that sort of thing with Ecamm Live, which works really well.
I’ve setup 7 of these system for Customers and I only buy the Pro. I think it’s the better purchase having the ability to record and Live Stream direct over Eathernet. But totally agree with the amazing ability for a sub-1K devise. Coming from Network switchers that cost 250K+ AMAZING! Most of my customers (hey I’m in Nashville) have there own audio mixer so they just use that and feed it into the Mini. I have yet to feed one from the PodCaster. I have a face for Radio so I stick to audio only personally!
Haha, I bet the Nashville crowd definitely has a lot more mixing experience (great city!). The Pro sits in a pretty sweet spot in terms of price and features. This was one of the rare times where I stuck with the least expensive option, and luckily it's worked out. But I'm really happy to hear so many people are starting to implement them!
Hey Matt and Tom. Thanks for sharing your expertise. We do lots of Zoom and I’m using elgato to convert dslr to computer. We’ve been recording into the camera for the best footage, but I wonder if the ATEM or pro would allow me to record without the camera AND still stream to Zoom. Don’t need to livestream in any other ways - just need a high quality recording. Thanks again!
@@ShawnBusse Maybe I not following you but you are taking the output of your camera via the HDMI into the Elgato Cam link into the computer. You can't mean without the camera so maybe your asking without recording on the camera. Which you could do without the ATEM Pro but you would be spending money that doesn't gain you anything. Out of the camera is a simple copy to get the recording on to the Computer. So let me know what I'm missing... glad to try to help!
@@mattwruff Thanks for the help, sir. Right now I have Fuji DSLR --> Magewell Capture (like the Elgato) --> USB in my macbook pro. I do a lot of business meetings (Zoom), and the higher-fidelity of the camera is awesome. Lately, we have been making small snippets of the zoom meetings. But, since Zoom recording to the cloud is mediocre, I press "record" on the camera and it saves 1080P video to its SD card. This systems works well, but the audio is separate, and I can't bring in other sources (e.g. when I show a video through Zoom, it's terrible). ATEM solves almost all of these problems! I could bring in the audio, the camera, and other sources into one box...however, if I use the USB-C port as a webcam hookup, I lose the ability to record through ATEM to an SSD drive. My goal, in other words, is to eliminate the need to record to the camera's SD card since it has a 30-minute limit. How do I use the ATEM's ability to record H.264, but still use my DSLR as a webcam? Ideas I've had are: - Splitters (split the DSLR signal before the ATEM and then run the split signal through the Magewell). Use the ATEM to record via USB-C - External recorder attached to the ATEM HDMI out. Run the USB into the computer as a web cam. This eliminates the opportunity to record multiple tracks with the ISO, for example. - OSB...which looks super complicated and technical...and I think would use my computer's processor and make the fan run (noise) Make sense? Thanks again!
Thank you! I haven't used that specific Roland, but I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I guess it depends on your budget and if you have a form factor preference. Either way I would definitely recommend running the RCP separately into your computer to get the absolute best audio.
your videos are THE BEst! how do you get the programming from the camera NOT to show up in the Zoom feed when you use the ATEM mini? i'm seeing all the settings like battery life and AF-A and the ISO settings all showing up into Zoom... also -- if you have other videos showing how you stream and switch with your ATEM Mini with Zoom LIVE Streams or STreamyard -- feel free to paste them here -- and i'll watch them ALL :D :D :D THANK You for all your TEaching here on RUclips
I really wish this switcher / the software would support ndi inputs. I really want a full ndi switcher. I have been using the meevo start cameras and loving them thus far. The fact that they are wireless, have ndi, have built in battery, have eptz in the app, can be used as webcam, record on device, no hdmit out though
Woo hoo! I recommend the ATEM Mini Pro as the best value overall. It does all of this, but also gives you the option to connect a screen and monitor all your inputs.
Great review as always. I am looking to get both the Rodecaster and the ATEM Mini Pro ISO. Would you do some specific video of how you produce the show plugging that in? Where specifically on the ATEM do you connect it? What port is coming out of the Rodecaster?
I think I will make a specific video about the setup, but I either run a 3.5mm cable from the Rodecaster into one of the mic jacks on the ATEM, or I connect the Rodecaster to my computer via USB and just select it as an audio source (most software will let you select different audio and video sources).
@@tombuck I think I see. From the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Rode to the mic jack on the ATEM? Do you ever have input delay if you connect the Rodecaster to the computer? I have heard there are sync delay issues.
Hahahahaha!! I got the AM and the first thing I got crazy looking for... the on/off switch. I've been tempted to comment in the various groups I joined, but I'm afraid of the replies =) it's so good I'm not the only one. And thank to you now I know BMD just doesn't put an on/off switch in their gear (weird) Cool cables, you mind sharing a link to those?
The ATEM Mini Pro is the one that offers multicam preview. But to get a preview of your built in camera, it'd have to come from an external computer (i.e. connecting cvia hdmi). You can use something like Ecamm to mix the ATEM's inputs with your built in camera.
Great point on sharing video in Zoom and the improvement doing it this way instead of using the screen share function. Question though, if using a Rode Caster Pro for audio, and mix minus turned on, how are you getting the video's audio back to Zoom? Are you stuck using an audio cable from the Rode Caster Pro to the ATEM Mini?
Great question! If I'm playing a video to Zoom I'll either use the mute/solo buttons for mix minus and disable the mute button while the video plays. Since I've been using Ecamm Live more lately, I've also been using Loopback to create a virtual mic for Zoom that will play the audio from any videos I share in Ecamm. It's not free, but it's worth it in my case.
Love your content! And you are really good at editing your video’s. I like how smooth your transitions of clips are @ 12:45-13:52 you have your mic on the table and then your edit was so smooth that it’s was as if it wasn’t even there 🙌🏽.
Tom can you make a video about the ATM mini in the ATM mini pro and what type of device can I upgrade to if I want to get some more out of it I did purchase the item mini after your combination I'm looking forward to maybe make it even better
If you want to take it up a notch you can look into the ATEM Mini Extremw ISO. It has 8 inputs and a lot more functionality built in. And most importantly, it has a million buttons which are very fun to press.
Hey Tom. I really enjoy your videos, and trust your opinions on the gear you review. I have already bought a couple of pieces as a result of your reviews (Rode Pro Caster 2, Shure MV7 Microphone, etc). I even painted my new 8'x12' in-home production/broadcast studio in a color simular to yours!! Now, I'd like to know if you have done a review on the OSEE GoStream Deck HDMI/USB Live Streaming Video Switcher? If not, would you please consider doing so? I was considering the ATEM Mini Pro unit, but would like your opinion on the OSEE Deck. Thanks again, and keep the reviews coming!
amaizing thanks for sharing, I do have a question. I want to have dslr quality video for streaming but the cameras are further. What can I use to get that video feed without having long cables? Thanks in advance for your reply.
There are a few wireless options out there, but they can be quite expensive and the reliability is usually a bit spotty. Sometimes a long cable is the best way to go. 🤷🏻♂️
You read my mind! I wanted to have a home audio and video podcast setup like what you demo'd here. I liked the idea of using the Rodecaster for audio processing but wasn't sure if that would work with a video switcher. Thanks for the tips!

I wish I had a HS teacher like you back in the day! I use to work w/a local tv station back in the day, & you’re right.....those consoles were $1,000’s of dollars! And analog back then. Technology is AMAZING!!!!
It's absolutely crazy how far things have come. I love it.
@@tombuck Indeed, I love it too!
Funny enough I was just looking at this exact same switcher two days ago and here your are doing a review on it. Your break down definitely made it less ATEM-Imdating and laid out it’s straightforward functions.
A+ pun right there! This thing is really terrific. I can't get over how seamlessly it's fit into my workflow.
I can only recommend it!! I got the ISO version and it's awesome - using it as a virtual trainer and would NOT ever wanna miss it. Thanks for the review... :)
Love this review. It is clear you are a teacher with the comprehensive flow of your presentation.
Questions:
1. do you find your rodecaster pro redundant in any way (audio-wise of course) to use together with the Atem mini
2. can you record a streaming session in its entirety and use as a future webinar or presentation
3. What specifically did you use (item) to be able to turn the Atem on and off
4. What advantagges would the Atem Mini pro or ISO offer that you feel the Mini doesn't have. In other words why would one consider either of these instead of the A. Mini.
Thanks for the kind words! Here are a few answers:
1. Nope, not redundant at all because of how many audio inputs it offers, plus the sound pads!
2. Yes! I've used OBS to record from the Mini, but the ATEM Mini Pro gives you the option to record directly to an attached USB drive.
3. These are the ones I ordered: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JW5SDZD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
4. The higher end models offer mulitview output, the ability to record as mentioned earlier, and a few other "pro" features. They're awesome- I just didn't need them for my workflow and wanted to keep things as simple/inexpensive as possible.
@@tombuck You are over-the-top with your generosity and information. Very much appreciated.
Great video 😀
Combine it with Elgato Stream Deck, Companion and macros, you have a really powerful setup.
Oooh, macros are a whole new world that I’m still trying to wrap my head around 🤯
Tom Buck Start with the simple stuff, and take it from there.
You don’t need to master every aspect, you will learn as time goes by 😉
I create ATEM Mini Pro episodes, only that it’s in danish 😊
Best regards the Nerd 🤓
@@tfechtenburg I can agree - I use the same configuration but the Streamdeck just für macros or/and if I operate from a distance so I don't have to move the Atem mini.
I work at a small private college, and my Atem mini gets used daily. I now have the regular mini and the Mini Pro ISO. I used the ISO last night so we could livestream an event and get the full recording. Afterward it took me less than 10 minutes to edit and export the final recording.
That’s an absolutely incredible workflow 🤯
Hi Tim, which setup do you use to record the audio of the students?
@@Minotaurus007 recording Audio depends upon what kind of event we're working. I usually try to get 3 audio recordings for redundancy. Usually we get 1 USB recording off the the digital console we're using. I usually set up a shotgun mic into a camera and do 1 recording in camera. Lastly I'll usually set up a field recorder as a final back up. If we're using an Atem Mini Pro ISO I also get the main recording as well as the ISO recordings all to a Samsung T5 from the USB out of the Mini Pro.
@@timfenton4943 Thank you, Tim, but: I mean how exactly do you capture the audio of the online zoom participants?
@@Minotaurus007 I rarely record Zoom sessions, but when we do I usually just use Zoom's record feature.
Grass Valley Group led the way for switchers back in the day. I used them in different settings. Every station I went to had a GVG. Plus, my friend's mother worked for the company.
The GVG logo is burned into my memory from starting at it for so long.
Man, I was watching another youtuber and was wondering how they kept switching cameras so seamlessly. A very good review Tom and keep up the good work!
Thanks David! I really appreciate it. 👍
And I promise this is not a review of your review channel. ...!
Well my review of your review of my reviews are that it's 11/10. Thanks for the kind words!
It really is an awesome tool 👍
Hello Tristan,
i was just wondering can you make a quad of all 4 inputs to send out to a screen or monitor ?????
The Atem mini is great. I used it to film a multi-cam meeting with a bank and was able to just have it on the floor below my tripod and tap the buttons with the tip of my shoe. It almost eliminated the need to edit. All I had to do was use the in camera footage for sections that I was not happy with
Nice! I love the visual of switching with your foot while presenting totally professionally 😁
I really liked the intro to this video "This is video is sponsored by me because I bought it"
This is the sixth time watching this video, but now I’m ready to connect my atem mini pro to my set up. Thanks
Good luck!
Not having multiview was why I had to wait for the Pro to come out.
Pro ISO seems a bit silly though. I would always use in-camera recordings anyway if I needed them for an edit.
The Pro really does seems to be the sweet spot in terms of price/features.
Sounds like we’re all on the same wavelength 😁
Given your propensity to improve what you're doing already why not the ATEM Pro ISO ... or are you waiting for their next rendition of the ATEM Mini?
For once I did t need the more advanced features, so I just wanted the least expensive option 👍
I literally started my TV career with that same Grass Valley switcher you mentioned, neat to see that referenced.
It was very fun to use- felt like working on the Death Star.

Hey you are very cool Tom.. Thanks so much for your help!

I feel so bad for my students who spend hours watching shared videos at low frame rates in Zoom meetings every day.

Ooh, that is a super cool feature!

Now this truly does make Friday the best day of the week!
That's awesome! Hopefully there are some fun/creative options with the upcoming events.
Great show. I have never seen this yet. Very informative.
The options for the money is pretty amazing.
Thank you for sharing this.
Glad it was helpful!
I agree- this thing really packs in SO much. Thanks for the kind words!
@@tombuck Great thanks. Just ordered the Mini and will be with me soon enough. Great channel Tom 🤜🏼🤛🏼

Hello! The basic ATEM doesn’t have multi view (which is fine with me), but the “Pro” version has it.
@@tombuck Thanks for the reply! :) any Windows application you'd also recommend in terms of foolproofness/stability?
@@tombuck of course buddy! Your content is awesome. I'd watch the full video even if it was 3 hours! Lol... I'd be with you to the end. 🤗😀

You are far too kind (but thank you) 🙏
Great video! Thanks for sharing your review of the atem mini. It looks like an awesome addition to a streaming setup.
It really is! I definitely recommend checking out the Pro model though. This one is perfect for me, but the features of the Pro seem to be the sweet spot for most people.
I don’t even have a use for such device and your video makes me want one!
Haha, I get it, My RUclips history is full of videos about things I'll never actually get.
Hello Tom,
Most professional equipment is designed to operate 24/7 and does not have or need a power switch.
@@tombuck There mixer cost more than your entire setup + my entire setup combined, and throw in out cars as well...LOL
Ideas I've had are:
- Splitters (split the DSLR signal before the ATEM and then run the split signal through the Magewell). Use the ATEM to record via USB-C
- External recorder attached to the ATEM HDMI out. Run the USB into the computer as a web cam. This eliminates the opportunity to record multiple tracks with the ISO, for example.
- OSB...which looks super complicated and technical...and I think would use my computer's processor and make the fan run (noise)
Make sense? Thanks again!
As always, you're the master of a presenter. Would you recommend the Roland V-1HD or the ATEM mini to work along with the Rodecaster Pro? Thank you.
Thank you! I haven't used that specific Roland, but I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I guess it depends on your budget and if you have a form factor preference. Either way I would definitely recommend running the RCP separately into your computer to get the absolute best audio.
I'm greatly overwhelmed by your video. Thanks a whole lot.
your videos are THE BEst!
how do you get the programming from the camera NOT to show up in the Zoom feed when you use the ATEM mini?

I think I will make a specific video about the setup, but I either run a 3.5mm cable from the Rodecaster into one of the mic jacks on the ATEM, or I connect the Rodecaster to my computer via USB and just select it as an audio source (most software will let you select different audio and video sources).
@@tombuck I think I see. From the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Rode to the mic jack on the ATEM? Do you ever have input delay if you connect the Rodecaster to the computer? I have heard there are sync delay issues.
I love how you started this video good form.
Thank you sir!
Hahahahaha!! I got the AM and the first thing I got crazy looking for... the on/off switch.
I've been tempted to comment in the various groups I joined, but I'm afraid of the replies =)
it's so good I'm not the only one. And thank to you now I know BMD just doesn't put an on/off switch in their gear (weird)
Cool cables, you mind sharing a link to those?
Here's a link to the cables, they're full HDMI to Mini: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B088NP25YF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@tombuck gracias!
Thanks for the awesome video! Is it possible to get an preview of my cameras on my macbook display?
The ATEM Mini Pro is the one that offers multicam preview. But to get a preview of your built in camera, it'd have to come from an external computer (i.e. connecting cvia hdmi). You can use something like Ecamm to mix the ATEM's inputs with your built in camera.
@@tombuck Thanks so much Tom! I'll try it with Ecamm later :) Thanks for taking your time!!! :)
Power button would definitely be a good feature. I picked up a lot from this, thank you!
I'm happy it helped! Kinda funny to ask for something as basic as a power button, but it'd be great!
Great post. Thanks for generously sharing your knowledge and delightful presentation. Just shared it to our producer's group on Facebook. Cheers!
Wow! Thank you!
Love your content! And you are really good at editing your video’s. I like how smooth your transitions of clips are @ 12:45-13:52 you have your mic on the table and then your edit was so smooth that it’s was as if it wasn’t even there 🙌🏽.
Thank you! It means a lot to hear that you appreciate the little details 🙏
Hi Tom best toy I have bought you will enjoy it and as you said how cheap they are for what they do CHEERS MATE.
Absolutely!
Great video!!
Is there any alternative that allows for switching to pre-recorded videos? Not just stills? :)
I use Ecamm for pre-recorded videos. I wish Blackmagic allowed them with the ATEM.
amaizing thanks for sharing, I do have a question.
Very detailed and in-depth, and well put together video as always! I love your content you're putting out!!
Thanks Tim! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
You read my mind! I wanted to have a home audio and video podcast setup like what you demo'd here. I liked the idea of using the Rodecaster for audio processing but wasn't sure if that would work with a video switcher. Thanks for the tips!
It's a great combo! I use it every day. In fact, I'm literally using it right now! 😁
