You are a life save on the Preview options was so frustrated, bit knowing how to select program preview. Your video enabled me to change that and do a few things on the Atem Mini Pro ISO. Thank you so much.
I am an audio guy, big time. But I am a video noob and have been forced into the video game with COVID. I got the ATEM Mini and then had to learn how to use it. I have watched this particular video about 3 times but after the third time the light bulb went off and it all just stuck and I now have it "locked and loaded." That tells me that Joseph's tutorial was excellent and I just needed to catch up! Well done and thank you!
Finally!! As primarily a live event tech, who often is running a switcher, with graphics/video sources and camera ops, at a distance. I have been trying to find out about the possible preview abilities of this unit ever since it was released! Felt like I was trying to find the Grail! Concise, Clear and Comprehensive... Thank-you so much 👍😁
Very helpful video! One thing I might add is that in order to get into the ATEM setup settings, you must be connected via USB. Those settings will be greyed out if you're just connected over ethernet. But if you access them with USB, you can then go in there and enable the settings to also be available over ethernet.
I had the solution of my problems in 9:12. Thans!!! Your videos is the one on the internet thar have how to solv this problem with the green button!! Thans again!!!
Thank you Joseph, that was a perfect explanation! We're pretty sure it will work for our needs. Fingers crossed for Multi-View at some point. (if at all possible)
5:31 My use case of direct inputs. When I record my gaming i use hdmi 1 for game hdmi 2 for camera, hdmi 3 and four are connected to the pc, one used as an chat preview, one used as web browser preview. And now i can change my monitor to chat, web, preview monitor and multicam (i have a pro version, but you can do it on streamdeck or whatever)
Mannn got so excited with the first review. While no multi-view in not necessarily a deal breaker it is a feature you normally expect switchers o have. Hope they do add it in a future update.
I think given the price, it's unlikely they will add it (even if the hardware can handle it). It'd destroy their $1,000 switcher market. I think it's pretty legit NOT to have it at this price point, considering the target market (people making self-produced shows).
Thank you for all the great information! I am currently helping my church set up a live stream system due to Covid 19 and we just ordered the Atem Mini. I can't wait to start playing with it when it gets here.
Absolutely loved this. Seriously looking into ATEM Mini and learning all I can to make an educated decision as to if I should buy it, and this video was clear, really well produced, concise and to the point. Many thanks!
Just cancelled my B&H order since its been on backorder for weeks. Ordered from DVE through your link. They say it's available so I have my fingers crossed it will come soon!
Thks for the amazing tutorial , How did you connect your gopro to Atem mini. ? with a capture card or direct from your gopro mini hdmi out to hdmi input ?
Really nice and clear explanation, thanks so much! I am so used to having Multi-view with Vmix and a Decklink Duo that I'm not sure I can live without it.
Yeah once you're used to that it's tough to go without. But remember that this device is really designed for, I'd say, self-broadcasts. No producer, no one doing the switching for you.
PhotoJoseph Yeah, it’s definitely very powerful for the money. Just did a 24 hour live stream using a Roland V-60, and it was fantastic but overpowered for a 3 camera simple show. I wish there was a way to get the Mini for a day of testing before purchasing. Might just take the shot since it is so affordable.
Given the price, it's an easy buy. And you can always return it if it really doesn't work out. I think that DVEStore still has them in stock, if no one else does: geni.us/ATEMmini
The ATEM Mini ISO and Mini Pro both have Multiview, but I can see the regular ATEM Mini does not. Another interesting thing to note, on the Mini Pro and Mini ISO, you can press and hold the PGM button to enable Preview Out on the HDMI output.
GREAT VIDEO, The best I've seen. Perhaps you could shoot a vid on this because there are a lot of us out there: How to use Aten Mini to broadcast PowerPoint over zoom with Picture in Picture of presenter on / beside the slide. At the moment I just use OBS to set up scenes and send the composite video over to Zoom through OBS virtual cam. Perhaps this is the best way and Aten is overkill, or perhaps Aten is a better way.... I don't know. One thing for sure I don't want to clutter my desk with multiple pcs. Ideally I'd like to do everything off my laptop (Zoom, PowerPoint) and maybe just get a small external monitor for previewing the Aten. I'd love to know the best way to do this as a regular Zoom Presenter.
@@photojoseph Because screensharing in Zoom reduces the presenter to a small square in the upper right corner. I've been using OBS to create a PiP with me on a greenscreen transparent beside the slide. That may still be the best way to go... Thanks
Incredibly well explained! Great job responding to that issue. BM should link to this video. A bit of extra work since you need to jump through a lot of hoops to enable pvw/pgm and you need a second monitor but it's definitely capable as you showed. Well done.
This is my first time seeing your channel, I have subscribed after watching this video on atem mini, this is the best video on this product I have watched on RUclips. Great video. I hope other videos on your channel will be great as this one. I gonna check them out!
Thanks I am looking for something to get rid of the awful second delay on my Extron 1608, I think I have found my golden ticket. Thanks. I am going to pull the camera imputs going into the extron into the mini the use one output the mini back to the extron.
Dude thank you for the awesome video. I didn’t think you could preview on this device which put me off. Multi view would be nice but at least I can preview a shot before pushing it live. This feature alone has made me want to buy this again. Thank you
Thank you. This video was very helpful as I had the problem of not being able to switch between preview and program from the device. Could only do it from the laptop/software.
Great information on the device. Do you have a video demonstrating Picture in Picture and how to increase the size of it? Thanks for the videos you have up. I’ve already learned much.
Appreciate your expertise and your complete explanations.. way more useful than many other posts that just discuss features, etc. Guess that “real world” experience really has value ;-)
the atems are based on xilinx zinq fpgas, there may not be enough hardware resources in the particular chip used to add the multiview feature. the format adaptation feature on each input may use up all those resources.
These are excellent videos thanks. My ATEM Mini arrives tomorrow. I have a number of cameras but note that you said that you had linked your GoPro - was that directly plugged into the HDMI port on the ATEM Mini pls?
Mine is still on back order. I have a preorder everywhere lol. I want this thing so bad. Great video man. Thanks for the info. Because of your videos I think the Mini is enough for my needs the pro would be nice but not needed. Would love to see the preview in a update.
Thanks for the great tutorials, the complete tour that you did was great! I do have one question that I can't seem to find an answer for (so the answer is probably no). Can you utilize the preview mode in OBS through the ATEM mini or do you need to feed the preview through the HDMI? Thanks for your time!
Great information. Next time please slow down. I was trying to keep up. However, this was awesome. I am trying to get mine set up very soon for my math classes. I just bought the mini. I am new to it all.
ATEM software doesn’t show video, so, no. In OBS, the only way to get preview would be to set the HDMI to Preview (as is shown in this video), and then feed that into the computer via an HDMI to USB adapter.
Thank Joseph, this is exactly what I was looking for! Very well explained :) I'm in the process of configuring my ATEM mini and got stuck on how to setup preview on the device itself and leave the USB C for webcam output only. It's going to be important not to combine streaming and software control on the same computer via USB. If I do need the software control then I connect an alternate computer via the network. Multiview would be cool for what I need but not essential.
The HDMI Output on my ATEM MINI doesn't work as it should. In the ATEM Software Control, the 'Camera 1 Direct' option works, but none of the others do. I'd like to have the HDMI output as 'Preview' mode, so I can see the camera I am about to switch to. Have tried every available combination of different cameras, different HDMI cables, have tried two different output screens(projector and computer monitor), even tried putting a powered HDMI splitter between the HDMI Output and the screens. I saw on the BM forum that others have experienced this too, but I didn't see a fix - surely they have sorted this out!?! The ATEM Mini Firmware is at 8.6.1 It is the original, most basic ATEM Mini Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.
Try a reset of the hardware. Put it in recovery mode by holding down the upper left “ON” button while connecting to power. That puts it into a state where a firmware update is required. Make sure you have latest firmware installed first (you don’t now).
thank you very much. Although I am watching this after 4 years, there is till a lot to learn from this video. Please is there anyway to preview using the Atem software. i.e show the preview on your Macbook?
Thanks for watching. There’s a couple ways you could get the ATEM video on your computer screen. If you are controlling the ATEM over the network, then you can use the USB output to connect to a WebCam software or OBS. That will show you the program. However, if you want the preview or the multiview, then the only way to do that is to use one of the AGEM HDMI outputs and run that into a HDMI to USB converter and then into your computer and again use OBS or something like that to see it.
Thank you for this. that output select on the top menu is just so dumb. Why is that not an option in the software control? Drove me crazy for 2 days and didn't know what was wrong.
You have to understand that this is a miniature version of a much, much bigger product. Sometimes those menus that don't make sense at this scale are a lot more logical when it's bigger. My big ATEM has four of those outputs and it's incredible to be able to separately determine what goes through them.
One question: is "program" always fed though the USB-C? There's no indication but I assume that is the case. It's only the HDMI that can switch between "program" and "preview". Good video!
