Jackie is one of the great genius performers of film history. He is an idol of martial arts film in the same way that Chaplin is known for comedy, or Walt Disney for animation. Man is a legend
He is also a corrupt politician who is agaisnt human rights and pro facism. He is the opposite person in real life than what he does in the movies. He is hated in asia for all his sexual and corruption scandals, also for making propaganda pro Xi Jingpin and for trying to make China take over Taiwan and Hong Kong
I started out not being able to get enough of the Angry Video game nerd freaking out over bad games, now I can't get enough of James & the gang calmly talking about movies lol.
The fight scene between Jackie Chan and Benny "The Jet" Urquidez in Wheels on Meals (1982) is honestly incredible, especially when you realize that the footage isn't sped up at all.
My parents are from Asia and we watched Drunken Master together and my mom would always use the movie to give us life lessons. "Wong Fei Hung wouldn't grow up and lost his dignity. This is why you have to listen to your parents." It's crazy to see Cinemassacre talk about it. 😂
@rvd356 We're not Chinese. My family is an ethnic minority with ties to China and I'd rather not say what my heritage is beyond general east Asia. I always feel more comfortable keeping it there. Don't like to feel like I am giving a history lesson when I talk about my heritage.
Fun fact: hwang jang lee, the man who portrayed thunderlegs, is a 9th dan in teakwondo and actually killed a man with one single kick in the S.Korean war. People always talk about if martial artists are legit in films or if they could win a fight in real life but I think Hwang, of all people, shouldn't be questioned in legitimacy.
It is hard to say for sure. Despite how iconic Jackie is in his portrail of Wong Fei Hung, those surronding him and the 5 style Northern Shaolin Martial arts and Drunken Kung Fu etc. are filled with similar (to a western audience) seeming characters and archetypes. So it could be any of these or none. Donnie Yen, Sonny Chibba, Chow Yun Phat and Jet Li have all played similar characters. So maybe just a blending of all of them?
Talking about how Jackie’s been burned, electrocuted, stabbed etc. I expected to hear more such as drawn & quartered, hanged, poisoned like Vigo in Ghostbusters 2 lol
Just wanted to point out that most of Europe already knew about Jackie Chan many years before Rumble in The Bronx. I'm from the UK and had already seen around 10 of his films by the time Rumble in The Bronx was released.
Jackie Chan was trained in a theatrical style of Martial arts, so it was meant for stage performances, which is why a lot of his earlier work has those beats almost like a dance to them. The rhythmic trading of blows back and forth is very characteristic of that style, also explains why Jackie is "randomly" into other actors and stuntmen, his formative years were theatrical in nature.
I've always been a casual fan of Jackie Chan. But when Mr. Rolfe made a couple different top 10 Jackie Chan videos back in the day, that really skyrocketed my appreciation for him. I love that he's covering these movies again now.
Hong Kong radio deejays SoftHard used that same music on a segment where they make prankcalls. They were also featured in the Jackie Chan movie "City Hunter".
I love that James genuinely seems like a fan of the Kung Fu movie genre as a whole, and has a far more complete knowledge of these films that than other two.
@@peoples2296 the lead characters journey to grow, from being knocked down, to gaining confidence awarded from his journey 🤔 But I totally see your point of view

Jackie Chan films are legendary. There are so many cinematic treasures. Drunken Master 1&2 are excellent choices. I don't know how to pick just one, when there are so many to choose from. I give you credit for picking these two classics.

Lei Wulong from Tekken is almost literally Jackie Chan's Drunken Master protag.
Jackie Chan was trained in a theatrical style of Martial arts, so it was meant for stage performances, which is why a lot of his earlier work has those beats almost like a dance to them.
