Face off is really enjoyable in spite of it being goofy. John Woo's action is what holds it together. Adaption is a fantastic film. One of Cage's best. The end is really emotional and everyone gives a great performance. One of the best films about the act of writing along with Barton Fink.
Well it works here but it's risky for a writer or artist to write about their own trade and processes. It can come off as self-interested and unimaginative.
I remember thinking the same, the movie worked but it was a very risky idea, you could say the same about pulp fiction, another risky idea where the middel part, the end and the start of the movie are all over the place, i think it works beacuse tarentino just was clever enough to know how to put his ideas to life, same for Kaufman.
I for one would love to see more Cage Match. In particular, it'd be cool to see City of Angels vs. Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Not your usual over-the-top Cage action flicks, so I'd be curious to see how the guys do with such a pairing.
I don't think City of Angels is the kinda movie they're looking for. That's like a sad movie and really pretty good. They want the stuff thats really out there with over the top Cage performances.
When I saw the name Face/off on my TV guide, I assumed that SYFY was airing the movie a bunch of times. But it turns out it was the makeup competition show Face off.

I'm officially blessed to have a Nicolas cage marathon with you guys also face/off is my favorite Nicolas cage movie the reason why is because he goes batshit crazy in that movie and that's pitch perfect for me personally and that's why I love everything about it
Agree with James' choice (given the Matchup's condition of which film is MORE "Cagey"), but these are Apples and Oranges - they're both AWESOME movies in their own rights and NOT to be compared neatly. Also Missed Opportunity: mentioning Donald Kaufman's (Cool Cage Twin's) screenplay "The 3," where there is a climactic scene which involves a man on a motorcycle and a man on a horse; there is that ACT 3 scene in GHOSTRIDER where Sam E. rides his Hellfire Horse and CAGE rides his fiery motorcycle! Y'all slippin.'

Broken arrow doesn’t suck. It’s a bit cartoony. But it’s a fun action film. Very 90’s. Travolta is mesmerizing. It’s got a great supporting cast. I think Christian slater is miscast. But he’s still likeable.
Face Off is a masterpiece of 90s action cinema, it’s got some funny moments but most of the time I found Nicolas cage‘s character unsettling, he just sells the craziness with such gusto.

In the 2000's I lived in an apartment across from a video rental place. They would often have super cheap sales on ex-rental DVD's. I got Adaption on a complete whim, mostly because of the cover. It's a great movie to watch when you don't know what to expect.

Face/Off was one of my favorite action movies of the late 90's. Cage and Travolta hamed up every scene! It was cheese perfected! To top it off, you could see the stunt doubles faces! One of the most fun cheesy action movies to me!
You guys are literally the best. These are just my favourite things. So thank you for the Cage Matches, I've seen about half of the movies. Adaptation is classically the best but lacking Cage-iness as was stated at the end, I think Bad Lietunant and Vampire's Kiss win for Cage Moments. Though if you do more Cage Matches, and I REALLY hope you do, I think that Wicker Man (obvs), Weather Man and Raising Arizona should all be done and probably a bunch of movies I haven't seen. He's in a movie with Kelsey Grammer (Cheers, Frasier) so that should be interesting. Cheers, guys, keep up the outstanding work, these videos are the best review videos on the 'tube I swear.

It's different and has a ton of sex jokes which I don't think is the best style of comedy for Carrey. It's still fine and I don't mind rewatching it occasionally. Seeing your nickname have to mention that Breakout by Foo Fighters was a good song for the movie and had a fun music video.

Adaptations "meta" screenplay concept was also done a decade earlier in Robert Altman's film The Player. Both are great films.

I wanted to like it being a Jim Carrey fan but I just don't. Peter & Bobby Farrelly's style of humor has never done it for me.
