- James and Kieran are joined by Pat Contri to talk about the first Predator! Its about a team of special force ops, led by Arnold Schwarzenegger, are on a rescue mission for potential survivors of a Helicopter downed over remote South American jungle. Not long after they land, they discover that they have been sent in under false pretenses. This deception turns out to be the least of their worries though, when they find themselves being methodically hunted by something not of this world!

Jesse Ventura was delighted to find out from the wardrobe department that his arms were one inch bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger's. He suggested to Schwarzenegger that they measure arms, with the winner getting a bottle of champagne. Ventura lost, because Schwarzenegger had told the wardrobe department to tell Ventura that his arms were bigger.

You should watch the fact fiend episode about the movie. They talk about how all of them were working out in secret because they didn't want to admit they were working out, it's hilarious.

@@famyemil Arnold loves to fool around with everybody from what I hear. He's from everything I've ever heard very personable, friendly, and has a great sense of humor. I think a lot of it comes from at one point he owned and operated a brick company so he's been a regular worker he doesn't look down on people.

My favourite Predator fact is that the monster was voiced by Peter Cullen. That's Optimus Prime doing that chilling laugh at the end!!

No im pretty sure that laugh is Billy laughing and Peter only did the chirrup but I could be wrong. The predator through out the movie kept copying Billys laugh
@@GamingForTheRecentlyDeceased Good point. Using a distorted dead friend's laugh truly is the ultimate power move. But the part before, where it repeats Arnold's "WHAT... ARE YOU?" was definitely Cullen.

@MrAnonymeh no, I wish I knew. I was asking the same question. I'm guessing maybe james wanted to change it or someone else did, or they had another idea on how to use the space. I don't really know, it'd be cool if they told us.
This one looks like the rental stores back in the 1980s. The new one looks like a 90s-era rental store. I too prefer the 80s one...stores back then had more character to them. In the 90s, they cleaned up everything and made the rental stores look more corporate.

One of the best movies ever made.
When Dillon's arm get's blown off by the Predator's shoulder cannon, in the old VHS 'pan & scan' version, you can see Carl Weathers' real arm blatantly tucked behind his jacket going down into his trousers. It's much harder to notice in widescreen since it cuts off his waistline.
Fun fact: two Vietnam vets were in this movie: Jesse Ventura who plays Blaine and the dude with the grenade launcher. So it was familiar territory for them.

Hands down best Arnold quote comes from Commando. Just after his daughter is kidnapped and the dude says to him "...so you gotta do what we say, right?" and Arnold quips back "Wrong." and blows him a way. Epic.

The action movie where 2 of the stars went on to become state Governors, and a third actor also ran for office but lost. Arnold in California, Jesse Ventura in Minnesota, and Sonny Landham (Billy) ran for Governor in Kentucky but lost in the primaries.

I read once that the whole idea for this movie came from a running joke in Hollywood at the time about the Rocky movies. After beating Drago in Rocky IV, the joke was, "alright, who can top Drago? An alien, obviously."

That laugh he does at the end of the movie still creeps me out
It's creepy for what it signifies, but it sounded way too human to me.
@@lotus-prince I think that's what is so unsettling about it to me. I believe he was mimicking Billy's laugh and did it so well just to screw with Dutch which is pretty messed up

I agree with what was said about a missed opportunity with Dutch's character because at the end of Predator he was a broken man and you could see it all over his face how traumatized he was barely surviving an encounter with an alien.

Jesse Ventura had a lot to do with the military tactics and demeanor of the characters in the movie. His past as a SEAL helped out quite a bit.
James compared Predator to the Most Dangerous Game. The Pest was like a spin on the Most Dangerous Game. So you could say Predator and The Pest are basically the same kind of movie 😂

I dont think I was even 10 years old when my cousin and I tricked my aunt into letting us rent Predator. Loved it so much. Then it was on FOX and I recorded it. Must've watched that VHS a thousand times. Predator is one of my favorite movies and characters. Its also a movie that instantly brings me back to my childhood.
Love the Predator, showed both my nephews the movie some years back, they loved it too. Glad older movies can still grab newer gen interest.

Predator is a classic creature feature that had some of its magic and luster taken away by a parade of sequels. Just like Alien and Jeepers Creepers.
Definitely my favorite Arnold movie, and one of my favorite films ever.

The end scene where he wanted the predator to walk under the log with the spikes and didnt. You can feel the fear and anxiety from the character. Especially Arnold who never shows weakness in a movie. He was like "hurry up DO IT NOOOWWWW KILL ME IM RIGHT HERE!" when the predator walked around the log that made me feel arnold was done for sure. And i was 5 when i saw this lol
9:21 Damn, that's a crazy. It's almost like 'Jaws' they didn't show the shark cuz it wasn't working and here they chose to make the predator camouflage cuz they didn't have a design and it worked in its favor.

this movie was instantly a watch for me when i saw it at the local rental store, it was the 80s and it was a Schwarzenegger movie, how could we go wrong? and indeed it didnt go wrong at all, it was the birth of a franchise and we loved it.
Films like these were such phenomenons! So new and exciting experiences! Feels so rich that you can watch it time and again. So inspiring as a kid

Jean Claude van Damme was going to be in the movie as the predator, but quit production due to wearing the original suit that was rejected.
I was fortunate. I remember my grandma turning me on to scary movies before I was old enough to go to school. Creature feature, Twilight Zone, Ray Bradbury Theater etc. My grandma was cool. Teach them young :)

There is a wardrobe blooper with shooting of Predator where Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers clothes swap because when they had to do re shoots of scenes days later and they forgot what clothes outfit they were wearing

the weird thing about Da Predator was the music. i ALWAYS thought there was a jungle tribe beating on drums and the special ops just knew they were all over the jungle so it never phased them. it took 2 dozen times of watching to realize there was no hootin and hollerin and dr dre beats as it was just an overlay and the actors arent actually hearing it. weird, man, weird. it throws you off cause a few times Poncho pauses for the cause and looks up when it sounds like he hears them hootin and hollerin. was it the music?? the movie plays with both my emotions and ma money. don't play! chikken head! bwauk bwauk. to this day no one really knows.
I love those action movies from Arnold Schwarzenegger from The Terminator, Commando, Conan and Predator.

The actors in this movie went to a 6 week military training program together before shooting the movie. Thats why it seems pretty realistic and you can buy that they are really an elite military unit.

The problem with Predator 2 is that Predator is supposed to go against other great warriors, but no such thing in 2, just a random dude.

I've seen "The Most Dangerous Game" parodied or referenced in so many ways... I honestly think it needs a remake.
I think Dangerous Games has had 2-4 remakes over the last 50 years. Where as the original film lapsed into the public domain.

Sure, you can kill it with a gun, but the predator can see the weapons, which is why he turns to the rocks, logs, spikes etc. Gives the pred something to think about. it's almost like Dutch is hunting him. Great film non the less.
There was originally going to be a scene where arnie found the jungle hunters ship . But they cut it to keep the pace and suspense . Predator 2 was a worthy sequel
