Hey can you guys do one on event horizon. I think it's part of the hellraiser universe and it leads in to the matrix. Call it a stretch but I've got a theory lol
I love that whenever people talk about this movie, they barely talk about it as a movie, instead people start questioning their reality. It's a great testament to just how thought provoking the film really is.
There's a double take in that line. Truman says it as a act of defiance, but in reality, *all* of the cameras where inside his head because his head is the center of his subjective experience. As much as Truman is inside the show, the show is inside Truman. looked at this way, the film could be a story about enlightenment. The show is an analogy for samsara, duality, illusion, the ego, etc. It's familiar and habitual and even a little comforting to an extent, but it doesn't contain any real fulfillment. Whereas the world outside the show is nirvana or awakening. The final obstacle to awakening is not so much that samsara is tempting or corrupting or that , but it means that you're well and truly your own boss. You've seen through anything that could have placed a limitation on you. Even the gods. 限界突破 If some boffin with a PHD comes along and says the world is such and such a way, you can tell him to piss off. You don't need anyone to think for you. (We'll leave out the complications of you also being the PHD, you wanting to be fooled, and the fact that you were really you're own boss even while you were completely deluded.) That's naturally very frighting because it means you're not really a person or identity at all. You're it. You could be stuck dead at any moment and it wouldn't matter because the real you is what there is. The thing that sucks about being "me" is you don't get to be it. The thing that sucks about being it is you don't get to be a me. So after Samsara and nirvana, the Truman show and the world outside, comes the middle way where you become a person who unites both worlds and is whole.
@@amanofnoreputation2164 The Middle Way is where Truman becomes a Vlogger, and gives both terrible advice and the best you'll ever hear, 🤣. Ego in service to Presence.
I love the extra features where they interview the "Actors" and show their thoughts on being in the truman show. Like Truman's friend is an alcoholic because he drinks beer constantly on truman show to keep up the act for truman. Great stuff.
The bit that always really got to me was when Truman's buddy says "the last thing I would ever do, is lie to you". Truman's gonna have some trust issues.
They didn't even mention the best part of the movie! The last scene where they see Truman walk off the set, ending the show, and then the people are just like "eh, what else is on?" That was brilliant.
Also recommended for viewing: Pleasantville, a film with a number of similar themes released in the same year, 1998. That and Truman Show together make for an excellent double-feature.
The ending is just great social commentary on contemporary society, once the show ends after 2 decades, people just move on to the next show. Society just doesn’t care.
It's actually part of why I'm losing my attachment to pop culture; something will always be the next thing, and the current thing won't be. I need something deeper than that.

Truman Show is a good movie in and of itself but it did irk me a little when it was described as "so original". A movie that seems to be based upon an episode---not of TW (60's)---but upon "The New Twilight Zone" (80's) isn't "so original". Truman Show had a much larger budget and I think was more enjoyable than the New TW episode.
The 90's and early 2000's was a great time for movies that basically re-evaluated reality. Movies like The Truman Show, Dark City, eXistenZ, The Thirteenth Floor and Matrix all explored a constructed/simulated reality. I think that's also why thematically these movies hold up really well cause it's still something to think about today.
the rise of intrusive and terrible reality shows for voyeurs retroactively make this movie more meaningful but also depressing. not only did we not learn from it, apparently certain other people got the wrong lesson Not that this movie invented the concept exactly, but..

On the real that scene where Truman finally reaches the wall, and tries to punch his way out is a huge tear jerker. Jim was fantastic in this, should’ve at least gotten an Oscar nod.
One thing I always thought was weird was at the end, when he's leaving the show and he says to the show's creator, "In case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night" because that's his catchphrase, but since he just found out about how his life is a TV show, it probably never occurred to him that that's his catchphrase. It's always been a Hero Story for me were you want him to learn, you want him to break out. I see it as a very positive and inspiring story about being able to paragdime shift, to break out, to grow.
The exteriors of Truman Show are shot in Seaside, Florida. I live in Pensacola so it’s just over an hour or so away. My wife and I had our pictures taken in front of Truman’s house. My friend Kristina was an extra in it.
I think my main problem with that movie and the Truman Show (and Number 23 etc.) was that they were too serious for Jim Carrey, who I loved for Liar Liar, SNL, Ace Ventura etc.
I feckin' love that movie. People complained that it was too much like a Frank Capra movie- which is a dumb reason to hate it, Frank Capra made some GREAT movies.
4:58 My favorite scene with most of my favorite lines: What the hell are you talkin' about, who ya talkin' too?!...What are you gonna do; dice me, slice me or peel me, there's so many choices! 12:10 The other pianist they show (John Pramik) was the pianist at my church for years when I was a kid. I remember rewinding the VHS and bringing my parents into the room to make sure I wasn't seeing things. 13:15 Godzilla 89...Biollante? James is so hooked into his Godzilla years that he'd believe Harry Shearer was in Godzilla vs Biollante over confusing the year of Zilla's release.
Great movie. Great video. Halfway through though, I was staring intently at the middle dude’s t-shirt. “It looks like...it can’t be...is that...? Mister Metokur?” Way to represent!
This movie was so damn awesome when I saw it, I need to watch it again sometime. I am also glad to see the set they are on and how it is set up, very cool.
18:50 I watched that movie when I was like, 10, and It had a similar effect on me. I was a bit paranoid for a couple of weeks after that. I hear it's actually pretty common.
One of the best ones. And best ending. :) the skit and conversation I mean. Turman Show is also great. You guys should do more philosophical stuff. Your comedy mixed with deep thoughts would be absolute gold.
Spazzter I don’t think my simple grammatical error is something to bring up in a situation about your horrible comprehension of a classic film. In fact the mere mention of something that small just shows me that you never had the whit to say something to defend your INCORRECT opinion.
21:37 who’s the cameraman, is he going to have his own cinemassacre show. And furthermore - the number of the time code - 21:37 - No way It is a mere coincedence! Oh my god, It’s all connected!
I wish you had talk more about the audience reaction outside the dome, which is one of the most interesting subjects of this social experiment that was shown on the movie. I love it and it is definitely rewatchable to find more stuff each time.
or some kind of weird reverse one like you've got advertisers, they want to advertise on youtube becasue it's where everyone goes to post everything... because it's so much more genuine and real than TV but then they want to change it so it's not real anymore. because they think reality is going to offend the real people living the reality... somehow? so their target audience is.. fictional characters??

I think my main problem with that movie and the Truman Show (and Number 23 etc.) was that they were too serious for Jim Carrey, who I loved for Liar Liar, SNL, Ace Ventura etc.
OMG Thought I was the only one going to mention The Majestic:p
Always had considered the Truman Show a modern telling of Plato's Allegory of the Cave.
Hahaha the more I watch these videos the more I'm liking Kieran kick-ass slow motion head bangin' with the little red electric piano lol hilarious!!
Dang man makes you think that our whole world is in such a predicament like we are entertainment for somebody else sorta matrix style .
One of the best and most thought provoking films. A thrilling movie.
I feel bad for Jim Carrey in this movie and it was especially sad when he reunites with his "dad"
Always loved this movie!!!!! His dramatic break out role, if you don't count Simon Birch.
I see Tony repping that Metokur merch!!
@@SiestaYonJyuGo lol no that be Jim
I came to the comments just to see if someone else noticed... Lmao jfc
@@DimitriVHefley Same here! was sure i wasn't the only one.

Great movie. Great video.
Halfway through though, I was staring intently at the middle dude’s t-shirt.
“It looks like...it can’t be...is that...? Mister Metokur?”
Way to represent!
Will you watch the sonic movie
Hell yea
This movie was so damn awesome when I saw it, I need to watch it again sometime. I am also glad to see the set they are on and how it is set up, very cool.
These guys are having a Total Recall of their situation.
I was getting more of a "Neo being unplugged" vibe myself, minus the whole emerging from a pod full of goop thing.
LMAO the gangstalking bit was great. Totally forgot about that video till now.
The Truman Show is one of my favourite films of all time. More people should totally watch it.
18:50
I watched that movie when I was like, 10, and It had a similar effect on me.
Some people hear Yanny, others hear Laurel.
Me, an artilleryman: Why is it silent?
I got so many bells ringing in my ears
_every_ angel gets its wings!
DARKNESS
IMPRISONING ME
ALL THAT I SEE
ABSOLUTE HORROR
This as well as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are some of my favorite films of all time
The Truman Show was so funny! I love Jim Carrey, and his work in Sonic was amazing too!
Spazzter the Truman show is not really a comedy
@@dosbro4690 I still thought it was hilarious.
Spazzter well then your an idiot
@@dosbro4690 Ironic coming from someone who can't differentiate your and you're.
Spazzter I don’t think my simple grammatical error is something to bring up in a situation about your horrible comprehension of a classic film. In fact the mere mention of something that small just shows me that you never had the whit to say something to defend your INCORRECT opinion.
"He sounds like an ass to me" and that is why James is my favorite LOL
21:37 who’s the cameraman, is he going to have his own cinemassacre show. And furthermore - the number of the time code - 21:37 - No way It is a mere coincedence! Oh my god, It’s all connected!
It's me
No its me
Haha no it was actually me
I definitely need to check this movie out now!!! Y'all had me at "like a Twilight Zone Episode"
They would trip out on reality at 4:20 XD
I wish you had talk more about the audience reaction outside the dome, which is one of the most interesting subjects of this social experiment that was shown on the movie. I love it and it is definitely rewatchable to find more stuff each time.
youtube's censorship schemes make me feel like im on the truman show
шарлотка
You said it.
or some kind of weird reverse one
like you've got advertisers, they want to advertise on youtube becasue it's where everyone goes to post everything... because it's so much more genuine and real than TV
but then they want to change it so it's not real anymore. because they think reality is going to offend the real people living the reality... somehow? so their target audience is.. fictional characters??
I'm glad you revealed this because I honest didn't know if it was a real store or not.
