Hey nerd...
Thank you for bringing back the intro song lol
Cinemassacre sup
It's a crazy sci-fi action romp.
I saw alot of this movie in Valerian and never knew they had a connection.
The style is French.
This is one of my favorite movies ever.
BIG. BIG BADA BOOM!
I actually have the soundtrack of this move on my I phone lol
I never expected to see a comment of yours, sup dude!

@To La James doesn't like Matrix, Avengers and The Fifth Element. Lets face it: he has a bad taste. That's probably the reason he plays the shitty games that suck ass.
But the Fith Element is really a weird movie.
@@shlt111 to be fair to James most Marvel films are great but Avengers 2 was weak and I personally didn't care for Endgame so the Avengers films turned out to be a mixed bag overall.
@@shlt111 there is nothing gayer than avengers and any super hero
Korben Dallas dresses like Duke Nukem. Always thought it, and wanted to hear them say it.
Duke are combi of body&face from arnold+dolph lundgren blond hair+bruce Willis (john mc clane) personality
I would prefer a weird movie with some tonal issues than the same cookie cutter bullshit Hollywood pumps out year after year.
Yea but everyone keeps paying to see all this garbage and therefore they keep making more.
It's like you just described the production of 90% of entertainment
"It's just nice to see a female action hero without the foced girl power message"
Could not agree more.
You need more upvotes.
Absolutely.
Agree to the power of 9001.
It's an irrelevant remark because at the time there was no such message.
That's only because there was no social media back then.
Tony looks like he raided the wardrobe department of Ace Ventura.
😂😂😂
And then ate it.
Pride is an abomination. One must forego the self to obtain total spiritual creaminess, and avoid the chewy chunks of degradation.
As a big man myself I cracked up at the part where he ate the outfit

Yeah but not one of them realise who the other one is really.
Serendipitous?
@@mantrox And them not meeting each other makes it not only funny, but a commentary about the divide between employees and employers. It's a brilliant aspect of the film.

I always saw the point as "love is the 5th element. An essential element of life"
Shawn Turner
I think that’s obvious
Yep, that was clearly the point of the whole journey. Lilo is not the 5th element, it's love
Canonically according to Besson, it's not love. It's sex.
And music is the fifth dimension which this movie has a lot of.
Really enjoyed this movie. Gary Oldman and Chris TUcker's over the top performances are worth the watch alone!
Really surprised at James' take on this.
Same.
He hasn't watched it enough yet. Needs about 10 good viewings to get WTF is happening. There is literally too much stuff going on as he says. One watching is not enough.
I'll always hate Chris Tucker in this. I've never come around to his character. Maybe I just hate Chris Tucker?
old man bewilderment has been james' take the last like 5 videos...
@@eLiFILMSinc The character is specifically designed to be as obnoxious as possible. It's the kind of person who you love to hate, with an absurdly excessive style reminiscent of the rich people in the Hunger Games movies
The opera scene was weird, true. But it was the one stuck with me for decades after and after!
The Diva is such an interesting concept for me lol. Scary yet inviting and alluring.
The ending of the fifth element was so hillarious "What's wrong with you what are you screaming for?!"
😆😆😆😆😆
Chris Tucker!!!!
I saw this movie at the right time in life. I was 13 & saw it in theaters. This movie blew my mind. The comedy was perfect for my age range. The action was awesome. And the future world it's set in was absolutely astonishing. The Fifth Element really left an impact on me & will always be my favorite movie of all time.
@@uppernimbus I'm really feelin' it!
I was 13 also and my dad took me to this and while it's not my favorite your comment echoes my feelings alot. Very similar experience - it was just so epic and fun
The outfits were so mental as they were designed by Jean Paul Gaultier .. You guys just talked about the clothes and look but failed to mention that they were designed by at the time the world's most famous designer...!!
Not actual research maybe?

Talk about over the top. How did they not mention that Milla Jovovich does THREE TOPLESS SCENES!
1997 sci-fi, Fifth Element, Starship Troopers and Event Horizon.
@Second Sight You really do
Shit.. That was a good year..
If only we got the REAL Event Horizon!?! I’m pretty sure Cinemassacre did a review and mentions how they lost all of the “original cut” footage of the film. Apparently, crazy fepic! Like with amputees and some crazy stuff!
I love Bruce Willis in this movie. His character is like he is apart of the audience. He has no idea what he is looking at the whole time just like us. Genius.

Exactly! That's common sense. Just like the match stick and human traits such as sweat and breath, as well as using fingers to sprinkle sand. They are all just vessels that are used to activate the elements. I don't know why the guys didn't understand that.

The Fifth Element is the only film where I like Milla Jovovich.

Check out Leon The Professional and Nikita as well.
I'm completely blinded by nostalgia on this one. One of my favorite Sci-Fi movies of all time.
I saw this movie in a Cinema in London back in 97, visually it was absolutely stunning at the time and it still is in a lot of ways.
This is one of my top fav all time movies. I enjoy it every time I watch!
Great movie. I grew up on it. Multi-pass!

James, it's like basically a live-action version of Heavy Metal, but with the message being that love is what overcomes evil and binds all of life together.
No, its a live action shitty rip off of heavy metal
Good luck getting another 'Element' movie after the response that 'Valerian' got from moviegoers.
As a note: Luc Besson was married to the woman who is playing the Diva Plavalaguna , in this movie (Blue alien Singer) He was however having an affair with Milla Jovovich during filming.
And they were both younger than 18 or some shit at the time? O__o
I actually saw this movie in the theatre in France, because I happened to be there when it was new! ☺️ It was a REALLY big deal in my world because I’m a fan of fashion, sci-fi, Gary Oldman, classical music and over-the-top divas! ^^ This movie has always been an epic historical moment for fashion nerds because of Jean Paul Gaultier’s costume design and all of the fashion models in it. I’m not a big fan of Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovic, however, so it seems like I appreciate this movie for almost the opposite reasons to what James likes about it! 😅
Did Justin imply that Blade Runner doesn't have a point?
It doesn't. It has several.
Yeah, that made me do a double take.
One of my Favourite Films from the 1990s.
The Diva Dance scene is GLORIOUS!
Remember seeing this in cinemas. Had a great time, weird film though.
Even as a kid I felt the plot didn't make a lot of sense because it seems like the story just randomly starts but I still love it. The characters are a lot of fun and the world building is amazing.
I completely didn't get Chris Tucker's character Ruby Rod at all...
Until I found out the role was written for Prince, who turned it down.
I was like "Ahhhhhh now it makes a little more sense."
Finally the dorky intro song is back, which I love so dearly! 5th element is a very artistic and inspired movie but everyone has their own tastes regarding this.
Pretty sure right off the bat this movie had a large following right when it came out. I remember seeing it when I was a little kid and couldn't get enough of it. Totally classic sci-fi right there.
Finally, they're reviewing a movie I've actually seen!
The setting is Blade Runner, but the outfits are Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

Seriously. Good grief.
Well put.

I think Versace did the wardrobe for this, so it ended up like a summer show in Paris.
This film is one of the only few movies that does not display the future as dystopian. This a future I love to see. I love this flick!
80's kid here lol, totally remember it on hbo, cinemax, and showtime. Surprised James doesn't care for it lol.
I wish you guys would do a Rental Review on the 80's Transformers Movie.
I second this
Followed by their take on the Bumblebee movie. I finally saw what my wife's seen in TF since the 80's. "Decepticons! Attaaack!"
I vote that the "Cinemassacre Video" song should be at the beginning of ALL of these. That "Ooooooooh yeaaaaaaah" never fails to crack me up.
ah you must be a customer over at Lightning Fast VCR Repair.
Always loved this movie. May be nostalgia, but Id re-watch it anytime.
It's sci-fi spoofing itself, while still taking it seriously/trying to sci-fi consistent.
Like: "All sci-fi can be goofy if you think about it, but go with it anyway, it's fun."
Pretty sure James Rolfe totally gets the movie, and he addedthe POV of his "James the nerd" , character , as an inside joke and carried it along for the review.
They didn't notice that the director of La Haine had a cameo in it
Honestly I doubt these dinguses know what La Haine is lol
I watched this movie once with my dad when I was 7 or so. I didn't know what to think
It IS captain planet, down to the 5th element being HEART!
😂 I was a kid when I saw this movie and I thought the same thing.

Possibly my favorite movie of all time, and I'm not entirely sure why..
I absolutely love the fifth Element it is one of my favorite movies
What amazes me is that luc besson started writing the story for the film when he was 16.
And yeah. My fiance fucking loves this movie. One of her favorite films of all time.
Brilliant, bizarre French Sci Fi - one of my top 10 favorites ✨❤️
For me the confusing nature of it is exactly what I love. it reminds me of Tolkiens world building or Blade Runner again, where things are referenced but not emphasized to create such a rich backdrop. We don't need every little thing explained to us. I love that we don't know why the stones are inside the opera singer or how she would have gotten them out. Whats with the plastic head things people wear? Why does his gun have spikes on it? Who knows but it really make you feel thrown into a new world. One of my favorite movies
One of the most memorable parts of the movie is the Diva's song. If you look it up on RUclips, different singers from across the world have sung this song as performances in front of audiences.
"The Fifth Element" is a good movie for the simple fact that its fun.
A comparable movie about being a fun weird action comedy is "Big Trouble in Little China."
Movie had one of the most underrated songs for a chase scene, when they are in the flying cab in the city
Yeah that song is totally badass, fact I can still remember it is impressive
The world of The Fifth Element reminds me a lot of Chis Foss' artwork.
Chris Tucker playing a Prince parody is what makes this movie.
I love this movie. it's that crazy over the top but everything fits movie.. No way you can think it's not enjoyable
Triple negative confused me a bit. I think you meant "No way you can think it's not enjoyable"
Corrected
Thank you so much. I almost had a panic attack!
it's Muppet Show meets Blade Runner! masterpiece and still a good look SFX wise.
Definitely in my top 10 movies. I can understand why some people find it weird like James though.
Probably my favorite movie ever, next to Spaceballs. Bruce Willis action comedies are the best in my book. He is the pinnacle of man action/comedy movies, but this movie was for everyone.
One of the most rewatchable movies ever.
When you look at the this break all the major characters down to a D20 aspect Corban is The strong hero Leeloo is the Agile Chosen one The Priest is Wise Hero and Ruby is the Bard.
James should do an angry review on the shitty game from the intro
it like you guys forgot he got on the craft with them because there was a bomb in the hotel and he got seperated from his entourage after the concert, he stuck with corban (who saved his life at least twice before then) and got off the cruiseship before it explodes, then they take the craft STRAIGHT to egypt. he had no chance to get off or change his course, he had to stick to corban as he was part of his broadcast.
I Love it when James Rolfe finally talks about a movie that I Love and he has hardly ever or never mentioned before.
Love this movie. I think it's held up brilliantly
This was a movie I didn't know anything about back in the early 00's, something like 01'. I bought it out of the $5 bin at Walmart just to have something to watch during dinner, and next thing I know it's in my top 3 favorite movies for the next decade, and Milla was my biggest crush. I was obsessed with it for awhile.

I loved this movie when I was like 12 or 13. Gary oldman was the best villain ever in this movie.
Classic ass golden girls intro , love the fifth element ruby rod Gary oldman role lol
The Fifth Element is like a super high-level joke. If you don't get it, you don't get it. But if you do get it, you're mind will be blown.
I just recently watched this movie because James said he didn't like it......or at least didn't understand the movie. The Fifth Element, is one of the best movies I ever saw. I thought it was so different but it was way better than expectation. I had to stop the review and watch it. This movie got me so hyped and there was so much suspense and action. I would love it if they made a sequel or even an animated adaptation.
I thought you guys were really hyped about reviewing this, but I had it at 125% playback. Lots of good points. Loosely held together plot. Great movie.
Can you guys do Lost in Space (1998) ?? :)
this movie takes a lot from the alejandro jodorowsky graphic novel the Incal.
Very Jodoversian yeah.
100% agree
My cousin had a star trek/sci-fi themed wedding ceremony in Vegas on a replica of the deck.of the starship enterprise. And one of the guests came dressed as Milas character from the 5th element

90s hit movies were alot better than most 2010s. This decades is garbage.
Shoehorned is right. Sometimes things don't fit right.
No one mentioned Jean Giraud Moebius as the concept artist?! the movie has his style distilled all over
Finally someone who shares my view of indifference to this.
Such a polarizing movie, no middle ground, loved or hated by all, I'm the former. Tony and Justin Credible are right, it's one you need to watch over and over. I love the scene where the guy shakes his head and becomes his real self 😂😂✌

I agree with James. And if the five people at the end represent the five elements, Chris Tucker's character represents dirt.
can you do the movie maximum overdrive? it's an awesome movie i'm sure you just love it. i know i do!
