- Wow, a first for the UK! My customer has agreed for me to give you some demo footage of these beauties being broken in and playing some test tracks. These are the biggest and meanest ferrite-motor woofers that DD have to offer, with the 9900 motor, 4" 4-layer reinforced coil, gloss composite cone and cap, supercharge option, and we fitted these out with the soft spider option for higher efficiency and a lower Fs, since they will be used on lower power and in a smaller enclosure. I cant wait to see what these are capable of.
You will hear chuffing as these play in free air due to the cooling vents on the rear of the motor. This completely disappears when mounted.

I'm doing a pair of 12s or 15s in a Tline for my entertainment room. Instead of a Tline box design, I'm taking the ¼ tuning length and just cutting a strait piece of tubing to length. (kinda like a sono-tube, but itll be cut to the ¼ tuning length) The room will be a 24'x20' room, and I'll run the 'Tline' tubes down the sides of the room, or across the font of the room. A box design is just too big, but I can hide 15'+ of tubes either side of the room. Should mame for some awesome lows.
I hope youre using more than one tube for each woofer buddy. A decent t-line needs to have a line area equivalent to that of the cone area. So for a 12" woofer, generally youd need a pipe with a 9 - 11" diameter (or two/three 6" pipes) , or a square line that is 8"x8" or so.

Very good! Paper cone is not a problem for normal (music) usage in direct radiating or bassreflex enclosure. It gets problem when used for single-tune SPL challenges or horn loaded designs. Got paper 21" myself, and it´s awesome.

I use those Amcron Macrotech amps all the time. Absolutely bulletproof and can chuck out the power.

Wow, makes the new btl neo 18s look small. I feel inferior... , no, my box size will be inferior. That's what she said. I'll have a hard time with 6-8 cubes for each of mine, not really jealous. How much space do they recommend?

hey man what happen to the DD vs SA last time? have you ever finish it in a box test?
glad to see the triple joint looks proper. have a 15mo old redline 800 18 that all the glue is cracked to hell. Had on 2k rms with proper electrical and setting sun sub barely moved, suspension is still stiff as the day I got it but that triple joint is garbage. also I broke sub in 1st 2 mo on 1100 watts and kept volume to min. have vids on my channel if u have any other questions.
I really dislike the 800 series. The spider is completely wrong for the woofer, it takes so much power to get going, doesnt move much and doesnt drop well at all. Thats why ive never done a video of it despite having a pair of the 800 series 12"s for demo at one point.

barevids I just hope dd makes it right. and I couldn't agree more about spider... still stiff as a morning pecker after 15mo of play time on 2k clamped and triple joint is cracked to all hell.. Hope I got a bad one and it gets warrantied because coil and spiders are perfect shape

Anyone have ported box dimensions for these to hit 30-35hz? I have a very similar looking 21" sub but it's missing a lot of specs and it's discontinued. Want to build a box, just can't calculate the size.

Im sure these subs hammer pretty good. But i dont get why they dont move like 5 inched?? Why so small of a x max. My budget 15's move as far or farther than this.They need bigger surrounds and more x max.
Jon Doe are you new to the audio world? Not trying to say this in a condescending or disrespectful way. Anyone that knows subwoofers knows that DD is among the best. Literally in the top 10... if not 5 brands. There's plenty of videos on RUclips that explain the "excursion paradox". Oh and he's also simply breaking them in.... and not on some 10K amp either. Hopefully you get to upgrade out of your "budget 15s" one day.

Can I ask what is actually breaking in on a woofer? Like what part? In RC when you break in a motor its to allow for the metals to expand and shave off a bit creating almost perfect tolerances. Is there a part on woofers that goes through this type of change? I can actually imagine the voicecoils heating up, but they would never make contact with anything would they? Just a thought Ive been having, Probably been answered before Im certain.

I would personally go with the stereo integrity hst 24 if I wanted huge like that, or maybe the higher fs of the sundown 24. What's the fs of those? The SI should be around 17 Hz, sundowns are the low 20s I think. I know dd usually has higher frequency subs, like high 30s
Ignore the Fs parameters on the website, theyre completely wrong. The 9915 Supercharged woofer for example has a broken in Fs of 32hz. The website is more like 40.. they dont break them in enough before testing t/s. ill be putting these 21s on the DATs soon.
barevids I think nick is limited because of his ms. And nick and si are like squatting in sundowns office/warehouse here in north Carolina we're I'm living. I know he had something to do with the sundown 24 that was released. I just don't know why he doesn't ask Jacob to help him with a loan for a mass production line of subs. I know Obsidian made great budget subs, I still have two v1 15s, but he just didn't get out there like sundown did. You had to order off their poor site, and only die hard audio guys ever heard of them. Even Steve meade was doing woofer flex Friday with the si ht18, and he never heard of Obsidian. It just doesn't make sense at all. So much potential. Oh well. I would love to see more products from nick. I would buy from him before Kevin at skar. What's the deal with everyone hating on him anyways?

The RMS ratings on DDs website refer to actual continuous clamped power. This is what ALL manufacturers should be quoting. However annoyingly cheaper brands will quote an "RMS" figure that actually means "this is what amplifier power you should be using", which is completely different to actual clamped power. Ill explain this in a later video. But, since this "matching amp RMS" rating seems to have become the norm, I feel that stating these woofers are 5000Wrms will better help others to compare the performance capabilities of these to other brands, such as ground zero.
barevids, Cheers I have been looking to make a single subwoofer blow through system. Trying to find the best woofer for the highest SPL. There are so many options. Do you think you could give me any suggestions? What do you think of a forth order setup or even 6th or 8th if i can find enough cubes?
I personally dislike 4th orders. Its basically a sealed box with an enhanced high-bass chamber. Eurgh.
If you are strapped for space, a simple ported box coupled with a woofer that has a softer spider and a strong motor will do you well. When you shrink box size, you lose efficiency, and need power to make up for it, either by having more motor power or more amplifier power (or both). DDs would be great in this scenario when coupled with the soft spider option, since the motor force and coil gaps are so tight/strong. It then just comes down to your budget, and power available as to which woofer you get.
6th orders require a lot more space, dont even do there with 8ths unless you have a degree in acoustics. Sealed can actually have the nicest sound in a small space, but will not get as loud as a ported version.
The only reason I wanted to do a bandpass box was so i only have the port coming in to the cab of the ute. I know Im going to need a lot of power to do high SPL that i'm looking for just trying something different as have never seen one in New Zealand and through possibly could gain more db's with some kind of bandpass. My thoughts so for power would be a 9 or 10k with all the appropriate batteries and alts. Just trying to determine what sub on the market has the best bang for buck. Would love one of those dd9921 but out of my price range.

a) its not my build its a customer order and b) you cant "just" go to the Z version, as it is about 4 times the price. Considerably higher investment.

You probably can't fit 2 of them in a vehicle because it would be one hell of a subwoofer enclosure for 2 of them better off using it for home audio because there's no way you can fit 2 of them in a car

I think my camera has reset itself, lol! It should be 29.760 or something. 25 is the default PAL setting for UK. 30 is the NTSC setting for USA etc. Its to do with what frequency our lights flicker at, you use 120v 60hz, we use 250v 50hz.

One Cosmic to break it in. Barevids literally has a video explanation of practically everything you can think of when it comes to subs. You should subscribe.
But i mean there is no point to make a bare subwoofer run without an enclosure.
There is in this case, to break the subwoofer in before running in the enclosure. This is safer for the woofers and amplifiers.
One Cosmic oh, because they're not his subs. He's a DD distributor so he doesn't have the box for them. The free air demo is only to break them in. He explains what is happening when you "break them in" in another video and why it needs to be done out of the box. Hope that helps. I didn't understand it at first either until I saw a side by side comparison of a sub that was broken in vs not.
