This is the best subwoofer video demonstration on youtube. I've always wondered how subwoofers were made, but this video, the process, the high quality materials used all combined with the care and attention to details, has made me love this brand more than any other audio equipment. I definitely need more products from DD. Thank you for building such great products!
Thanks for watching!
Nice always want to see how the cones were made sweet
Keep it up ❤
Awesome video, it would be sweet to see where the motors, surrounds, and baskets get made. I find the manufacture of this stuff very interesting like the best episode of how it's made 🙌
The surround and coil are also made in USA by our supplier, however there are just some parts that are not accessible here in the U.S. anymore like the magnet and basket, otherwise we would also source them here.
Great video. i posted it in few audio groups
LOVE THIS!! Never knew it was such a small operation.. Will DD ever make something Infinite Baffle related??
Pretty much all of our US built subs have a suspension very well suited for IB.
Besides strength, what advantage is there to using the composite cone over the regular cone?
Less mms?
Improve efficiency?
Trying to decide if i should order mine with them. Cant find any info on them.
Strength is the main advantage is systems over 160s. The carbon cones are slightly lighter, and will be a bit more efficient, but not enough to make a noticeable difference when listening to music.
@ddaudiotv hey thanks dd! Just put my order in for 2 9510s with the blue sapphire cones and amethyst dust caps!

How much does a 21 weigh?
I just ordered 2-15’s (9915c’s). The shop I purchased them from didn’t specify which spiders to get. I’m assuming they come standard. If I were to opt for 3 layer would that be additional cost?
@JoseFlores-fm2vc- Unless you are giving each subwoofer @ least 8,000 watts, and just doing SPL burps, the standard suspension is the way to go. My friend had a D16000= (8k R.M.S.) Massive Audio amplifier, on a pair of DD 9500 15s with standard suspension, and it was great. Then a year or so later, he thought he wanted the stiff= extra spider option. So he sent his stock 9500 15s in, to get the full carbon/kevlar cone, and dust cap, plus the Extra spider option= stiff. Well lets just say that when he got them back, they were so stiff, they didn't budge with that 8k on a pair, and they were so punchy, they would give you a head ache. I didn't like them @ all! My friend spent so much $ on these upgrades, and on his power level, didn't even get 1 Db louder! He sold them, not long after getting them back. Then he got a 12" DD 3500 with the soft suspension, for SQ= he was much happier. Like DD says, the standard suspension is what most would prefer. Stiff is for high powered SPL burps, soft is for half of the rated power handling, or less, and def. Set your subsonic filter correctly, as the soft can bottom out very easily Hope this helps?.
👍👍👍...💯💯💯💯💯💯...
i'd love to go absolute clown car and put one of these in my FRS but i know it wouldn't possibly fit
This is what I like to see Hand built in the United States will be buying more products from you happy with my 9918
Shit sub. Z series better
Great video. 👍
We appreciate the feedback!
I love this type of processing the core where it all begins EPIC p.s a awesome Karate Kid poster in the background on the wall time stamp at 3:07
Great video. I have been tossing the idea around about giving the dd a try. I will go for the quality. Thanks for the video.
I got a DC audio level 6 18" sub with all the upgrades and the silly thing was just shy of $3000 Canadian.
Dd has some of the highest RMS values out there and some sweet looking units!
Keep American manufacturers going!
I've seen these built in person put this never gets old! I love my 9521's they never cease to amaze me and the band with is so wide which makes them very musical!....who would of thought?!!
That's strange, because your page doesn't have a single video of your 9521s you claim to own, and even your upload thumbnails are just random pictures from Google of various setups.
With that said, I'm totally sure you own a set of these, and just seemingly don't have any footage of them whatsoever, but instead just BS music clips on your page with random back photos
Okay now I want to try one.
I would like to see Brooke's daily setup, if she would allow that
I have to say I really do love this video. Keep up the amazing work.
We appreciate it! Thank you for choosing DD ;)
A nice inside look 👍 now I want one lol
👍👍
WOW... i wish i cud make n build subs for yah... that is Awesome stuff sir...keep up the great videos 🔊💣💣🔊
Thank you for this video guys..
Sell the parts so we can upgrade our subwoofers ourselves. Suck to buy dd and only be able to use dd to get repairs. Like buying a car and being forced to go to dealership for any type of service.
If parts are available for your specific subwoofer, you are able to order a recone through your dealer or by calling direct.
We are not asking for recones as a whole. We would like to purchase individual parts such as cones or spiders by themselves
@ddaudiotv parts are always available. Lord of bass exists. Ebay exists. We know most of yall parts come from china, that is a fact. Is dd so scary of their loyal customers getting hold of baskets and Coils? Spent 1200$ on a woofer and can't get something so simple. It doesn't matter to me anymore as I decided to never get ripped off again by building my own subwoofers. I also don't recommend dd anymore as other brands are more willing to bend the knee to paying customers.
@@PunisherOfDeath101in the US built subs none of the soft parts come from China.
This would be my dream job but it just doesn't pay compared to what I make now in trucking. This wouldn't even feel like a job to me.
I got the 9915 how much roughly would it cost to get it supercharged I'm in the United Kingdom
Great to see the genius himself showing how it’s done. Keep it up!!!
The only thing I do not understand is why can’t you sale direct to consumer? I have to go through a dealer to buy these subs. The dealer mark up is no joke ether. That’s the only draw back I have with the company. I feel like a great opportunity for direct to consumer sale would be awesome.
We do offer our standard build subs online at www.ddaudio.life/. At this time we do not offer custom options, but dealers cannot sell above posted retail price. We do post the standard build prices on our webiste.
Great quality you get what you pay for
Thanks for the cool video ! 😎👍 I wish you guys would build a replacement cone for the Jl13w7 I hate cheap polypropylene cones !
if you can make a subwoofer that porucees 110 db 1 watt i emter at 2.83 volts that would be insane..or even higher
Great video 👍
Thanks for watching!
I have 3 9915 and 4 vo-m10 s2 try to save to buy the amps
Is there any way i can get sponsorship with DD Audio?
What are the specs on the original 9915 d2 beast? Specifically efficiency rating?
lol, wish i could afford to have you guys build me one :P for now ill jsut have to buy off the shelf parts adn build my own custom subs to get it how i want it.
Merica fck yeah
Amazing video! This is going to sound silly, but do you ever have factory tours?
I've got 2 9917s and a newer 9915 I may need to send into yall for a little refresh.

DD kutusu tasarım kaynaklarımızı burada gördünüz mü?: ddaudio.com/support/dd-box-design/
This makes me crave a 9521sc even more after watching this! Amazing work and production!!!
Dd the best.
I'm surprised that the cone used is just that a cone, not a more complex surface.
how long it can handle when plug in to AC 230v directly?
Very cool! One question though. I'm such a high-end handmade speaker why not use neodymium magnets?
We do have a Neo magnet subwoofer, check out our Z3 and Z4 series: ddaudio.com/series/z4/?status=2&global=2 and we also use neo magnets in some of our speakers like our very popular high output coaxial VO-XN: ddaudio.com/vo-series/coaxials/vo-xn6-5a/
@@ddaudiotv Right on! Is there any benefit to running these types of magnets over neodymium other than cost?
@@DoRC No not really. Neodymium costs several times as much as ferrite for the same magnetic strength, so it's only worth it when weight is a concern or when you reach the limits of ferrite motors.
For a house in the country! ROCK ON! ♥.X.O
I've got one of these 9917s you have on your right
Nice!
A eso llamo arte!, lástima que no me alcanza para uno se esos 😢
You gonna build ps audio subwoofer elements?
sweet! thanks!
This would be a dream job for me
You say this now
@@Audfile I've literally dreamed of doing something with audio since I was like 14.

@@ddaudiotv is your QMS reading correct on the 18-in driver?
Look at that boys and girls… straight CA! None of that retarded e4000 glue! Nice product! Nice sub! Personally wish I could do this type of stuff for a living but just not that fortunate. Stay thankful and thank you for showing us this stuff!
Beautiful work, great engineering!
Question what about the Suspension
And the voice coil Material who makes them the process
The coil, spiders and surrounds are made in USA by our suppliers.
USA made nice! ✨🎉
I always loved digital designs speakers.
Never had the money.for these beauties though..
(Work harder, as I am lazy).
Anywho, would you hook one of these to a wall outlet?
Would love to see the results. Bet I would be just fine.
need to build some square woofers :)
Please consider the moving magnet design featured on RUclips titled moving magnet subwoofer with impact diaphragm. The design is currently patent pending and might offer a new option well situated for consideration for a company like yours. Also see the comparison of magnet weights in the RUclips clip titled “causes of voice coil burnout “. I look forward to responding to your feedback. Thank you.
I have two 508b-84 svc 4ohm. I can't find any specs for them. All my searching comes up with dvc variants. Any chance you got some specs?
Very cool to see how you do the composites portion. I'm in the middle of making tooling to manufacture my own product from carbon fiber. But I gotta ask--why not use peel ply on the back of the cones? I know nobody is going to see the back side, but I would feel obligated to make it as neat as possible.
Cool video
FIRE CONVO
talk less and do the work
4:50 Would it be possible to make an inner mould or something so you don't end up with wrinkles on the bottom side ?
For example people who want to show off the sub in an inverted mount.
Can use this in DJ?
Woah it’s boone goosen
Nice eye! Hahaha
Are the 99 series louder than the Z4s ?
no
I am suddenly desperate to do a IB setup with this. Can you imagine?
I don't need one - but after i shoed it i want one......great video thanks
Why not test it in series or parallel instead of just one side of the coil?
sir.. is the number turns of coil and diameter of core affecting the frequency response?
Sure, everything interacts ... but freq response isn't the most important.
With headroom, any frequency response desired can be EQ'd in.
Inductance, BL, moving mass, ... primary elements impacted by coil turns, etc.
Ideally;
- minimal inductance yields speed
- maximal BL yields strength
- minimal moving mass yields sensitivity
Those are important.
Frequency response can be bulldozed in via EQ.
I see that updated 1506 in the table 👀
Great video . I’ll definitely be looking into some dd’s after my sundown get tired
That won't be long
Why two dust caps?
One is a compression cap and the other strengthens the cone and has cosmetic upgrades.
@@ddaudiotv good to know. Thank you very much
Great video!!!
This is awesome
Beautiful work
Perfect example of “you get what you pay for”
Kevlar, literally bulletproof😅
hehehe
YEEYEEHAW
WOW! Impressive!
GREAT JOB ON BUILDING THOSE MONSTERS
The strength and rigidity of those spiders is insane 😱
Imagine getting paid to make monster subwoofers 🥳
MADE IN AMERICA
Loved this video! DD is the best brand i ever tried. How do you make the basket, coil and the magnet? would really love a video of that also
The coil is made in USA by our supplier, however there are just some parts that are not accessible here in the U.S. anymore like the magnet and basket, otherwise we would also source them here.

The assembly guy is a beast!
Job well done ❤❤❤
This looks good!
Thumps up 👍
Americans always rock none others could not 🤣😂😃😀😆😄😅
This is a awesome video dd audio to show the process of producing a subwoofer great quality products indeed
Terrific content to see, thanks!
I'm a fan of car audio since I was 15, I used to repair old garbage subs without any knowledge because I was poor but I had basic knowledge in electronic components, I always wanted to see how these where made, I thought everything was machined, seeing actual people making the cones by hand amazed me! the lady doing all the resin work is talented, the skills of the assembly and all the process is outstanding!, I never heard of this brand because I've been disconnected 😉 from car audio but my I will buy my next sub from you giys to help support the hard work.. great video!
Outstanding… thank you, thank you… DD for the win!!’
9917 beast D1.4 still
My all time favorite. 3inch copper coil. 40mm coil and 40mm top
Plate hits really hard. 44 T/m and only remaining 0.5mm inside the gap. 36gramms cone ! Erom ! Nothing else coms even close. Yes there is more and more power ratings and more xcursion. But this one is about attack ! A real beast
Yep, knew a guy that was doing 166db with only one 9917 or 9517 can't remember
@@mattm2684 We did 166,7dB in SuperStreet 1-2 in 2000 with 2x 9917 D1.4
Now I really understand why these subs are so expensive. unbelievable process worth every penny honestly can say nothing can touch this
Man would love to have a 21" I have 4 18s and 6 15s..But 21 or 24" is just out of my price range still...Hope to have a 32" at some point!
Awesome creation it’s unique in audio quality
