  • I call these... the GZPW9910! Slightly insane request but I love that! Sadly, my amps here cant push them enough to really look that great on film. So, as soon as I have a little free time, I will hook up all of the 14v batts and give them some Banda 9K power! That should loosen up the spiders a bit!
    I have one most spare motor and also an FI BTL motor which i could do this with.... mmmmmm :)

    I'll bet the excursion doesn't change, no matter what enclosure they're loaded into. With that much force to overcome the stiffness of the suspension, and that small piston area, acoustic loading is almost irrelevant. These remind me of a bass version of horn drivers, designed for extremely high pressure, though with minimum displacement.

    I think these could actually play fairly low in a vented box if the Qts were increased. Smaller magnets and a triple-stack would probably do it, because the bonding area of the magnet would be reduced. (Target Qts would be ~0.6.) A cool benefit to that approach is that the port is active over a wider frequency range; somehow, the woofers are able to drive the port up near their own resonant frequency, then below Fs (in a large enough box) the port becomes active at the box Fb, and this lets most of the air movement come by way of the port over a wide bandwidth, and you're really not restricted as much by the driver excursion limits.

    • @christopherparis6841
      @christopherparis6841 10 месяцев назад

      Why a target qts of .6. Just tring to learn what higher or lower q produces besides kinda predicting type of box?

    These behave a lot like the MTX RFL152, where the suspension is so stiff they cannot play music AT ALL. The RFL had six spiders, and were tuned to about 60 hertz (and that's pretty much what they were made to play - 60 hertz burp tones for SPL that's IT).

    Except for the MAJOR audio distortion in the recording of these AND even VIDEO distortion, (probably due to the refresh rate of the RUclips video or maybe my computer), making them look all "wavy" and shit, these look like some pretty awesome 10" woofers!!... I know they sound MUCH better in person too; the RUclips video cannot even come CLOSE to doing them any justice sound wise!... Do you have those both wired in series, (2-ohm load), I guess, since your Crown Amp I'm sure isn't rated to safely handle 0.5-ohm loads?... And is that 2000 watts total, (1K to each woofer), that you say those amps are putting out, is that power rating into a 4-ohm load, or is that the power they put out at 2-ohm?... And also, do you have the amp running in parallel mono bridged mode, or are you running it stereo mode, with one channel powering each woofer, (in which case the amp would be driving a 1-ohm load per channel)... Just a "techie nerd" wondering about the details of your setup, LOL!... Pretty cool, no matter what!

    • @historyhunter5215
      @historyhunter5215 7 лет назад +1

      You just won't have that serious punch and hit lows, you don't want to throw alot at it either because you will push it past the cone and fry it...or learn as I did, blow a few then get a cap, crossover, bigger gauge wire, etc... In lamans terms you get what you pay for, if you don't spend a few hundred you can torch your ride...

    • @instazx2
      @instazx2 7 лет назад +2

      Yes. When an amplifier is driven too hard, it will "clip". The sharp edge of this clipping represents a movement your subs can't make easily. This causes excessive heating in the coil and a really terrible sound at the same time. Size the subs for the amp.

    • @Chuck_Sanders
      @Chuck_Sanders 11 месяцев назад

      Lol... what?

    • @RodknockRhett
      @RodknockRhett 11 месяцев назад

      @@Chuck_Sanders a more stiff subwoofer = lower sensitivity. Lower sensitivity combined with higher moving mass = deeper bass.
      Which, also makes the sub quieter too. But the SQ gets a huge boost.

    • @Chuck_Sanders
      @Chuck_Sanders 11 месяцев назад

      @@RodknockRhett sound quality drivers aren't stiff at all. The sensitivity isn't based on just the spiders. A stiffer suspension is used for ramping up power handling capabilities in most cases. Sensitivity is a culmination of the voice coil in relation to the gap(whether it is a tighter gap or not in relation to the coils outer diameter versus the magnetic gap diameter), the spider and surround(as both are part of the suspension). Just because it has an ultra stiff suspension, doesn't dictate that it plays "deeper" bass. SQ drivers are very sensitive because of tighter coil tolerances in correlation to the top plate outer diameter, a soft suspension(spider and surround) amd are way more efficient and need less power to drive them, As a result. An overly stiff suspension and heavy Mms corresponds to being a waste, and needs a ton of power to move the soft parts(very inefficient use of power applied) and are spl oriented and not geared for musical applications.

    sitting on motor - there is that motor in the speaker - gasoline or electric one?

    • @barevids
      @barevids  7 лет назад

      The term "motor" is defined as an object which converts some kind of stored energy into kinetic energy. In an engine, this is fuel into rotation. In an electric motor, it is electricity into rotation. A loudspeaker magnet/coil system is also called a motor, turning electrical energy into kinetic up/down movement. Even in medical terms, the ability to move is called "motor skills" or "motor control", turning energy stored from eating into kinetic energy with your limbs.
