It's actually a very sad song, he was breaking it off with a girl because he says he doesn't love her, that he only loves one girl from the past, and she did the exact same thing to him, he's repeating the cycle.

@@danteshydratshirt2360 Well if we take the timeline, he is not loved before his current relation where he cannot love so the Karma would be backwards. I don't think Meat Loaf is making this song as a "what is right and what is wrong" but rather as relationship experiences that can often happen in life. Many sing of love as being that of pure harmony and wonder. Meat Loaf often sings of love as a complicated set of situations that people can go through, and people can get hurt, even under the best of effort. That is why I love his songs. He doesn't just sing songs, he sings a whole story. He (and his writer Jim Steinman) creates full on ballads rather than songs.

@@danteshydratshirt2360 The reason he treats the current girl like that, is because the one girl he did truly love, told him she didn't love him and broke his heart! So now any relationship he has, he will never be able to love them.

This is the first song I heard of Meatloaf and my favorite. It took me awhile to get the two stories going on in this song. He is talking about how the relationship is over and he doesn't love her, and he gives the story about how someone he loved told him the same thing. Don't forget about Jim Steinman the writer and composer of many of the songs Meatloaf sings. Jim Steinman songs just have away of pulling on one's emotions.
"It's All Coming Back to Me Now" Celine Dion
"Read'em and Weep" Barry Manilow which Meatloaf also covered
"Total Eclipse of the Heart" Bonnie Tyler
    And more.

Some believe that it’s the same girl. He talks about the “snow piling up outside” and says that “you’ve been cold to ME so long, I’m crying icicles instead of tears”. Then later talks about “only one girl that I will ever love”, and “I remember how she left me on THAT STORMY NIGHT (remember the snow piling up). So later she wanted him BACK, but he didn’t love the girl that came back. “Two out of three ain’t bad.” 🙂

I must admit when Meat passed that really hit me. Its tough when someone you grew up listening to and really loved him as an artist moves on. It just reminds us of our immortality. @@stevedavis5704 I agree what I find even more encouraging is its a much younger generation that are tuning in to this great music. It speaks volumes about the music today. I believe that subconsciously they are disillusioned with modern music, if you can even call it music. I have never liked country music, but it is the only music that is palatable. So with the world upside down I just go back to my happy place and keep on ROCKIN.

This song goes to show, just how messed up we can be emotionally, after people who don't know better, play around with other people's hearts and emotions.
He's being told to leave despite the snow, because he can't love the girl in his present, because he is in love with an earlier girl, who didn't love him either, because she loved another in her past.

This song is one that you can just read through the lyrics and completely understand what's going on. He is being sent away by the woman he is with because he's been honest and told her that he wants and needs her but that he will never be able to love her - because he'll never get over the one woman who he would ever love - who left him on a stormy night years ago after telling him that she wanted him and needed him, but would never love him! The song ends as it starts - "Baby we can talk all night, but that ain't getting us nowhere.".

It is actually about 2 relationships. His past relationship who was the love of his life who didn't love him and his current relationship with a girl who loves him where does not love her. He basically is expressing pain and regret for both his current relationship and his previous relationship. He feels heartbroken for his current partner because of what he went through in the past. To me, this song is actually a song devoted to his his current partner/girlfriend/wife etc.

I think it’s pretty straight forward. He’s currently with a girl that he’ll never love even though he wants and needs her, but he’s still walking out. His real love from the past did the same thing to him and told him the same thing, and that gutted him. That’s why he says “baby we can talk all night, but that ain’t getting us nowhere.” Nothing is gonna be said or done to make him feel any different.

And then at the end of the song he references his first heartache "there was only one girl that I will ever love and that was so many years ago". And he repeats the words that "she" said to him initially, I want you, I need you ect.. which would suggest maybe he's been doing the same thing that was done to him in the past. Which is never being able to give that person everything just like what happened to him with his first love... A bad pattern due to a first love heartache...

2 out of 3 and its too late
And before she couldn't love him despite all his love for her , and he gave her everything he had in himself and heart.
When she came back , he had no love for her left in his heart that she tore from him when she left him before and now that she came back , he still wants her and needs her but he can't love her because he the love in h1is heart no longer exists for her because his love and his trust and belief in her , she also took with her , when she left him years ago 💔

In the beginning of the song, the woman he is currently in a relationship with is ending their relationship because she learns that he's not in love with her. He says he wants her and needs her, but there's just no way that he'll ever love her... 2 out of 3 ain't bad. In the last part of the song we learn the reason why -- he's still in love with a former romantic interest, a lady who did not reciprocate his love for her. Just before she left him, she explained that she wanted him and needed him, but there's no way that she would ever love him. 2 out of 3 ain't bad. What she felt for him was all he could ever carry forward into new relationships. Listen again and it will make sense. Lots more from this incredibly gifted performer, so keep it coming. Right on Chod! It gives me great pleasure in seeing younger black people turning on to some of the greatest music ever created. Especially 60s and 70s cause it's the best. Something happened to black artists especially once that garbage rap music reared its ugly head. All that fantastic music that black artists gave us in a commercial sense back in the 60s,70s and early 80s virtually disappeared from the airwaves once rap spread like a virus. Those great harmony groups and songwriters as well as musicians just seemed to have vanished from the radio. Yes there are many unknown or not commercially successful great musicians out there but if you compare what we heard in the 60s and 70s compared to the shit you hear today ,it's no comparison. The fact that youre a musician makes it better cause hopefully all the great music you've been experiencing will influence your style, playing and inspire you, I believe that 100%. I've been very disappointed in the music black artists have produced the past 30 years compared to what they gave us in the glory years of 1955 to early 80s. It was a huge decline after that!

Glad to see that Dee has recovered from Monsters! It was a bit mean playing that first, should have built up to it with more subtle ones like this, then at least she wouldn't have had to put her make up straight!

Meat Loaf would be insulted if you called him a singer because he thought of himself as an actor!
