Meat Loafs performances are like rock opera.Meat Loaf is the stage name of the lead singer. For meat Loaf you should always check out the videos, as the performance is as important as the song itself. "paradise by the Dashboard lights", Bat out of Hell", and "Dead Ringer for Love" , featuring Cher, are good places to start. Great reaction to a great artist. RIP Meat Loaf.

Meatloaf is the lead singer. His real name is Michael Lee Aday. He was a stage actor (Rocky Horror Picture Show & Fight Club) who with his fellow theater "geeks" created a touring theater based band. Which is why his music is so dramatic. The pianist Jim Stenman wrote the music as a theater performance as well. Paradise by the Dash Board lights and Two out of Three ain't bad are his two biggest songs. Steinman also wrote Bonny Taylor's "Total Eclipse of the Sun"(which was from a stage show he was writing about Vampires.
In an interview Steinman said what he won't do is different for each person. We all have different lines we won't cross.

I think one of my favorite Meat Loaf stories is: at one time Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman were suing each other, neither was allowed to talk to the other. One day, Meat Loaf called up Jim, they chatted, they started working on Bat out of Hell 2. They didn’t care that they were not allowed to talk to each other. It was actually their representatives that were suing each other, and they just ignored them because they were friends and held no animosity towards each other. And that led to a new album. I just find that kind of epic.

The girls name is Patty Russo. Patty sang on all of Meatloafs albums and most of his specials and shows from 1995 until "Meat" put down the microphone. She did have limited success as a solo artist but she just couldn't find that "break out song" that would catapult her to stardom. I agree, she has a very solid bad ass voice! By the way, Meatloaf got his name from his father when he was young. Michael was always a large presence in a crowd and not the sharpest tool in the shed. (I say that with love!). His dad started calling him "MEAT", maybe due to Archie Bunker and All In The Families Rob Ryners character, "Meathead". Anyway, at some point the name got stretched out to "Meatloaf". New artists are always searching for an unusual name that will stand out to the public and Mike chose to embrace "Meatloaf" for his stage name. THANKS DAD!

The information that I have is that the female singer on the Bat Out Of Hell album is Ellen Foley. According to the DVD documentary about this album it was claimed that Ellen Foley could not tour and Patty Russo was chosen to tour in her place and perform her role. On the DVD video of Bat Out Of Hell and which appears on youtube Patty Russo is in fact miming to Foley's vocals. The DVD documentary previously mentioned indicates that Foley was 'put out' because as she was not seen in the videos she did not get the appropriate recognition for her vocals. I have the original Record of the Bat Out Of Hell album which I purchased in 1978 and also the CD. Patty Russo is not mentioned at all in the credits whereas Ellen Foley is credited as the background female vocalist. I had no idea what Ellen Foley looked like until I saw the DVD documentary as on the cover of the Record and CD of Bat Out Of Hell only her back is shown whilst she is the arms of Jim Steinman.
I mention all this to give credit to Ellen Foley because I believe her vocals on the Bat Out Of Hell album are outstanding. Regards.

@@mikefairsea5898 Elaine couldn't tour with Meatloaf because she got a co-starring role in a TV series, "Night Court". You are correct that Elaine sang on the "Bat Out Of Hell" Lp but she chose acting over singing. Patty sang on Meatloafs albums from 1995 on. That doesn't mean that she was always the principal female lead, but I think that she was.

@@mikefairsea5898 The girl that actually did go on tour with Meatloaf for the "Bat Out Of Hell" tour was Karla something, I can't remember her last name, but it is Karla and not Patty that is lip synching to Elaines vocals from the album. Again, Patty didn't join Meatloaf until 1995.

    • @mikefairsea5898
      @mikefairsea5898 Год назад

@@boosuedon Thanks. It's been about twenty or so years ago that I bought the DVD documentary I mentioned and about that long since I viewed it. All I know is that virtually everyone that comments on the Bat Out Of Hell album videos praise the vocals of the female artist and many claim it is Patty Russo. Without viewing the documentary again I assumed it was her in the videos but you mentioning the name 'Karla' does ring a bell. I shall have to watch it again to make sure.
The album was so out there that many leading recording labels wouldn't touch it. From memory Todd Rundgren eventually financed and produced it. Todd Rundgren is the guitarist and as there had been quite a few car crash songs in previous years Steinman wanted to write the ultimate motor bike crash song. He mentioned that he wanted the sound of a motor bike in the song and Todd Rundgren proceeded to play the sound of a motor cycle on his guitar which is amazing.
Anyway, this old Aussie man introduced his 74 year old mother in 1978 to the album and she loved it. He introduced his nephews and nieces to it also and two of them became life long Meat Loaf fans attending a number of his shows when he toured Australia. I was at one of his shows in the mid 1980's when Meat Loaf fell off the stage and broke his leg. It was his 'Bad Attitude' tour.
As I mentioned before I think it is sad that Ellen Foley doesn't get any credit nowadays for her contribution. Regards.

@@mikefairsea5898 Thank you sir, and I have to confess that I had to go back and Google Karlas' name. It is Karla DaVito who did the "Bat Out Of Hell" tour with Meatloaf and it was also Karla lip syncing on the "Paradise by The Dashboard Lights" video. Patti Russo got screwed too as she was the female singer on Meatloafs ONLY Grammy win song, "I Would Do Anything For Love". They didn't think that Patti was pretty enough to be in the MTV video so they hired some Goddess model to be in the video, lip syncing to Patti Russo. I was really disappointed that Meatloaf didn't stand up for Patti and demand that she do the video! I think the girl is pretty damn cute! I've got to say that the video is very good, playing on the "Beauty and the Beast" theme. But that was Pattis' voice! The model actually was approached by record companies for a singing contract! She had to decline. That had to make Patti smile!

Meatloaf (Michael Lee Aday) was a stage actor/ singer before his rock music career. That experience shows in his songs. They are very theatrical in style and production, and he retained that powerful theater voice and enunciation. The line "I won't do that" always throws off first-time listeners. It refers to the line preceding it (I'll never forget the way you feel right now), etc. You'd be blown away by the story telling of the video of this song.

There are seven things Meat Loaf won't do, in this song. The first four are mentioned at the beginning of each chorus:
    1) But I'll never forget the way you feel right now, oh no, no way..
    2) But I'll never forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight..
    3) But I'll never do it better than I do it with you, so long, so long..
    4) But I'll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, no way..
The remaining three are responses to his lady:
    Lady:
    5) After a while, you'll forget everything.
It was a brief interlude and a midsummer night's fling
    6) And you'll see that it's time to move on
    Meat Loaf:
    I won't do that- no, I won't do that
    Lady:
I know the territory, I've been around. It'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down.
    7) And sooner or later, you'll be screwing around
    Meat Loaf:
    I won't do that- no, I won't do that..

Born Marvin Aday (may have the spelling wrong). Changed his name to Michael because he was overweight as a child and the Levi’s commercial at the time was “poor fat Marvin can’t wear Levi’s”
At least that is what I recall reading in his auto biography.

It's a masterpiece of music cinematography and shows his genius in its fullest. And just because you mentioned that beauty and the beast quality- you're gonna love it.

It’s so great to hear his live performances. But the videos actually tells a story that cooperates with the lyrics.
His music style is more in the line of rock opera. The visuals are as important as the actual song.
That being said … i love when reactors discover the musical marvel that is Meat Loaf.
I was a teenager when Bat out of Hell was released. I was sold the very first time I heard that album. He is as magnificent to me now 40 years later, as he was when I discovered him as a teenage boy.

Watch the official video. It's a masterpiece. Meat Loaf was a storyteller; every video was a mini movie and had a distinct visual that backed up the music to a point where, for those of us in the MTV generation, they're indistinguishable. Objects in the Rearview Mirror is heartwrenching, I would do anything is sexy and provocative, Paradise is nostalgia. The man could act as well as sing. RIP.
Edit: the video for this is based on Beauty and the Beast, sort of.

Second singer is Patti Russo. She toured with Meat Loaf for 20 years, but was not on the album version of this song. The album singer was Lorraine Crosby (no relation to Bing). The music video for the song featured Crosby's voice, but her role was played by model Dana Patrick, who mimed the singing. Crosby sang background vocals on several other Meat Loaf songs from the same album.
Oh, and the band is called Neverland Express.

Meat had put out one album prior to his teaming with composer Jim Steinman. Steinman labeled his compositions as "Wagnerian Rock" and did indeed put major theatrics in almost every song he wrote. Besides the biggest songs from Meat Loaf, Steinman also wrote Total Eclipse Of The Heart for Bonnie Tyler, Making Love Out Of Nothing At All for Air Supply, It's All Coming Back To My Now for Pandora's Box (later covered by Celine Dion), and Left In The Dark Again for Barbara Streisand!

In a 2012 interview, he said there were three singers he knew about who had what he called "overdrive": Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Adam Lambert. Not bad company to be in.

Meat Loaf had a gift like Celine Dion in that they can sing anything in a dramatic way. He did a dramatic cover of the Bagel Bites jingle on a night talk show.
