Meatloaf created what is called Rock Opera. The BAT OUT OF HELL ALBUM IS EPIC. TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD IS MY SONG. Many years ago a man dedicated TWO OUT OF THREE AIN'T BAD TO ME. He said he wanted me needed me but he'd never fall in love with me. I loved him so I never gave up, eventually he did fall in love with me and asked me to marry him. Sadly he died five days before our wedding from testicular cancer. That was 33yrs ago I MISS HIM EVERY DAY AND HE IS WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE ❤❤❤❤❤. REST IN PEACE VICTOR AND REST IN PEACE MEATLOAF.

You say we don't do music like this anymore... nobody else ever did. Meatloaf was a singular event in musical history and we are all lucky he gifted us with his legacy.

Jim Steinman wrote nearly all of Meat's music. He was absolutely brilliant The intended rock opera finally came to the stage in the 21st century. The Bat Out of Hell album is one of the greatest albums ever made. RIP Meat and Jim
Fell in love with Meat over 40 years ago.. I'm 71 now got to see him once at Warwick Castle here in UK.. Even queued in the rain to get a signed CD of Bat 111 had to save up to buy the CD player to listen to it a few weeks later he was a singer, story teller, TV Actor, films too, Fight Club, Rocky Horror and others.. a perfectionist. Very intelligent, and so sensitive too. The last time I saw him on TV was just prior to his death on an episode of Ghost Hunters, he was brilliant at that too.. so sadly missed by us all. Just completely broke my heart when I heard of his passing.. Cried all the way through this video, but thank you Sebs I truly enjoyed it

Been a Meatloaf fan my whole life and I'm 56. Jim Stineman wrote most of the songs Meatloaf sang. They were an amazing team. This just happens to be one of my favorite songs of his and I believe the song and video he did after this song was I'd Lie for you ( and that's the truth) and it's like a part 2 to this song. Steinman was known for his style which became coined as Wagnerian Rock. He wrote many hits for Bonnie Tyler as well. He did some musical theater as well. rock opera stuff. RIP JS

I loved Meatloaf in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I read an interview with him once...he was talking about volunteering at his kids' schools during their elementary and middle schools years, helping the teachers with staging, directing, costuming, etc. little performances as well as skits involving the kids. He loved it, just as he did participating in their other childhood activities. He sounded like he was a great dad, and I admire him for that.

The video was directed by Michael Bay, who directed the Transformer movies, among others. So you weren't too far off when you said that you were getting Terminator vibes at the beginning. The imagery is a cross between Bram Stoker's Dracula and Beauty and the Beast. He tells you what he won't do for love right before he tells you that he won't do that. "I'll never forget the way you feel right now.", I'll never lie to you, and that's a fact.", "I'll never do it better than i do it with you.", "I'll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life." etc. Brilliantly written song, and of course Meatloaf could belt it. Such a showman.
Meatloaf was an incomparable artist! There are so many amazing deep cuts on his albums. I hope you explore more of his work, even if it’s just for yourself.
The best way I can ever describe Meat Loaf is Rock Opera. He was one of the best. I loved seeing him play live. Truly one of the greats. As for what he won't do, listen to the first line in every chorus, for example, "I'll never forget the way you feel right now " in this case, that is what he won't do.
Also in the call and response portion of the song, she says he'll start screwing around and he says he won't do that.
Meat Loaf did an interview finally answering what it was, he was referring to and it wasn't that lol. He confirmed it was what everyone joked it was all along.

Agreed. Producers and Singers now cut every corner they can find. What passes for 'pop' music is nothing like what we had back in the day, when artists ACTUALLY PRACTICED for hours on end so they could get it right themselves, rather than relying on the electronic manipulation afterward. SOME artists still do it right but not in Western Pop...

A great song that details his life, losing his best friend at a young age, growing up with an abusive alcoholic Father and his first love, is the song called, "Objects in the rearview mirror appear closer than they are". Terrific video of movie form and appropriate for the song. Very meaningful song. Do yourself and your viewers a favor. He should have been inducted into the Hall of Fame, Rock n Roll.

Jim Steinman was amazing too, he was part of the two artists who I remember hearing from a very early age one of course was meatloaf, and the other Bonnie Tyler, as in TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART, you can totally tell when listening to them that he was very involved with both artists and their music.
Steinman--unmistakable songwriter. I found Meatloaf late--long after his heyday, and then went down a RUclips hole finding his stuff. Later I'd be listening to other music I'd known and liked for years...and suddenly...wait...that's gotta be Steinman..really?

Meatloaf's music was written by the late great Jim Stienman who's been called the Wagner of Rock because his style was so operatic. Jim and Meat were an on again off again partnership but never better than when they were together. Jim also wrote Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart", Air Supply's "Making Love out of Nothing at All" and co-wrote and produced Sister's of Mercy's "More".
The 'that' is cheat then leave - he's telling her he'll never cheat or leave as is evidenced by the end of the song where she says 'after a while you'll forget everything' and 'sooner or later you'll be screwing around' and he said "no, I won't do that."
By far my favorite hymn of all time. It is truly so powerful, beautiful and incredibly written. The meaning of this hymn is so deep and this vocalist sings this with the richness and power it so rightfully deserved.
No, no, no. It definitely works while you are driving in a car. Picture and feel this. Two seater manual convertible sports car. Top down, late at night on a curvy, windy country road. Radio blaring. It’s epic and I’m so glad that I had that. Super great memories that I can feel to my core. Sooooooooo glad I grew up during the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Glad to see younger people discovering the magic. Try to remember that the magic was lived by the senior citizens you see today.

Meatloaf was also in a musical. He played Eddy in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and his song was called 'Sweet Patootie'. If you haven't checked out Rocky Horror you need to! It's a brilliant bit of pure madness that's huge fun as long as you don't take it too seriously.

This song was a huge hit back then. I think 20yrs between hits. But for some reason the mainstream didn't like him so they played this over and over and over to the point people got sick of it. That's how they killed his music. So in this song I think he took the opening lines and moved them to the end of the song. If you heard the last lines first you would understand what the song is about. However would it have been as intriguing? So by moving the opening to the end of the song it kept you wondering and engaged? What do ya'll think? I was in H.S. when this came out.
You need to check out the album version of this. Twelve minutes of absolute perfection. Both Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II are masterpieces. You have to check out Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are (he won a Grammy), if you haven't already. Other songs I recommend, either for the channel or just for a listen are I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth), Everything Louder than Everything Else, Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money Back, Not A Dry Eye In The House, Couldn't Have Said It Better, Man of Steel (his daughter is on this one) and Testify.
So much to choose from!! Life is a Lemon is delightfully dystopian. I’m Gonna Love Her for Both of Us and Surf’s Up are also bangers… tongue in cheek Steinman gold delivered as only ML can.

This was his biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart (for all the hits he had, only this one made it to the top 10, as his next biggest charting single was 1978's "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad"), as it became his only #1 hit, spending 5 consecutive weeks at the top spot, from November 6th-December 4th, 1993. If you haven't heard "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" or "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" I highly recommend you listen it.

I got my driver´s license in 1995 and this album (being released in 1993) was definitely a core part of my driving soundtrack. Also the up-tempo songs "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through" and "Out of the Frying Pan (and Into the Fire)" have a great pace for driving and the ballad "Objects In The Rear View Mirror..." is also epic.

To previous comment - Jim Steinman created and was the driving force behind Meatloaf delivered the songs as only Meatloaf and his backing could deliver. Jim Steinman was a genius song writer who past recently, even did an album that was for Meat Loaf when Meat had voice problems - an excellent album that might have be Bat Out Of Hell 2... ...worth finding and listening too.

The Bat Out of Hell albums are stories, epics, operas, what have you. They are amazing to listen to in whole. Great for a road trip. My Dad used to play Meatloaf on our road trips from Indiana to California and Oregon.

I remember seeing Meatloaf in an interview shortly before he passed. He explained that, like any actor, he had a character for each song. During the course of a concert, he would have to change characters as many times as there were songs. When you see his videos and his live performances, you can totally see that.

I saw Meatloaf live around 1985 or 86. He'd broken his leg the night before when he'd fallen off the stage. The night we went and saw him, he was still jumping around on stage, it probably helped that he didn't stop drinking all night...but it was one of the best live performances I've ever seen.
The album “Bat Out of Hell” is written as an opera. Starting from the first song, it tells a story. Each song tells a part of the story. I’ve been a huge Meatloaf fan since about 1980. Listen to “For Crying Out Loud”. It’s my favorite.

No, not weird to listen to music like this in the car. Just think how interesting road trips were! Our music kept us awake and singing and car dancing! The music of the 60's to early 80's has so much experimentation - the whole point was to stand out and be noticed (in a very good way of course). Musicians were exploring blues, rock, Southern rock and it was all so good. Honestly the repetitive nature is why I never gravitated to enjoying pop music. Stayed a rock and roller.

Thanks for bringing back some great memories of my youth. I would really love you to do a reaction of Dimash Qudaibergen, a singer from Kazakhstan. It’s been said he is the best singer in the world today. Most people start out listening to SOS a song that brought him to world fame, when he sung it on a Chinese show, The Singer. However one of my favorite is IKANAIDE , it’s a song he sang in Mandarin, but then he sings it in Japanese, the original version of the song. I love your reaction channel. You might want to listen to two songs from a rock and roll movie called Streets of Fire. The songs are Tonight is What it Means to be Young, or Sorcerer. Sorcerer was written by Stevie Nicks and is a slow burn number. The other was written by Jim Steinman who also wrote this number, a lot of stuff for Celine Dion, and Bonnie Tyler.

Meatloaf has a role in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is a cult classic and worth checking out. You’ve probably heard Time Warp and seeing the film puts it in to context.
If you like storytelling in music, there’s a band called Ludo who did an album called “Broken Bride”. It’s a 5 track, 30 minute rock opera about a man who loses the woman he loves and tries to travel through time to get her back. It’s freaking EPIC

The Phantom of the Opera novel was published in 1910. The musical premiered in 1985. This song released in 1993.
And if you haven't seen the 2004 Phantom of the Opera film, you need to. I remember thinking it sounded like they used recorded music instead of rerecording with a live orchestra, but it's still damn good. Gerard Butler was a great casting decision. And the music and set pieces are iconic.
In Canada we still hear this on Radio, but it is the recorded versions. I know it was turned ito a Broadway production, but if you grew up with this, they ca'nt take away someting they never owned and say watch this. HE was epic, maybe just maybe it became a Broadway show cause he was celebrated! Weird as he was himself.

Meatloaf was a awesome actor. Have you ever seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show? Everyone didn't want him to do the movie because of its subject matter but when he found out he would be working with Tim Curry he said he didn't care if it ruined his career he was doing it!!
