There's a reason no one covers The Loaf's songs. No one could ever do them justice. There are voices as good as--- even a few better than--- Meat Loaf's. But no one could mix the vocal brilliance with his ability to emote the raw emotions. That is why Meatloaf was such a good actor as well.

In a 2003 interview for VH1 Ultimate Albums series, Jim Steinman (1947-2021, RIP) said he was complaining to friend Mimi Kennedy that he couldn’t get a deal. She suggested his songs were too complicated. Just then, Elvis' I Want You, I Need You, I Love You came on the radio & she said, "Why don't you write something simple like that." Steinman went home & “tried so hard” to write a simple song & “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” was the result. He said, “still a twist, but it was my closest to a simple song & one Elvis could have done."

It's the same girl. Being a trained opera singer thought you would see right away Meat Loaf is an actor who is performing each and every song he does as a character he creates in his mind. So, again He performs his songs, not sings them. Meat Loaf is an expert at theater of the mind. Best appreciation of Bat Out of Hell, should be done with a great speaker system turned up to just one notch below ears bleeding, and with eyes closed so as to get the full experience of the performance. Then go back and listen to individual songs at your comfortable volume. I recommend For Crying Out Load, which Meat Loaf himself decribes as the greatest love song ever. I also recommend listening to Hang Cool Teddybear the same way as Bat Out if Hell, then listen to individual songs, particularly I Saw Elvis In Vegas. Great Performance.

You just witnessed a rare glimpse of Jim Steinman at the piano. He wrote all the songs for Meatloaf. His best one however was "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler. Check that out for a female dose of that Meatloaf/Steinman sound.

I love your reaction and this is my favorite song by Meatloaf. The lyrics are great and such a story in the way he sings it. How crushing to hear I will never love you when you feel like your all in. This is reality in relationships at times and its a rough when you learn it. Meatloaf performs this in such an excellent way. You feel like he has been through this.

He recorded many great performances, but the one that shows off his voice the best, in my opinion, and the one I think you would appreciate the most for its operatic qualities, is For crying Out Loud. It wasn't a single so no video, but the song is worth listening to. It is astonishing.

Meat was an amazing performer...it was, and is, so easy to get lost in watching him and/or getting lost in the sound of his voice, but the lyrics of his songs tower above so much other music. His collaboration with the song writers deserves a special mention, but the songs he chose speak highly of him.
Very few reactors actually listen to lyrics: my compliments, Maggie.

SOMEBODY FINALLY GOT IT. I uabe listened toba lot of peoples reactions to this song. They all focus either on the first part and don't get why he can't love her... Or they hear the second part and think the whole song is about him being told the 2 out of three. But its the fact that he is so broken from the woman he loves leaving him that he feels he can never love anyone else.

This song is about love given more than received so in the first chorus it’s a girl letting him down he loves her more than she loves him or in case dosen’t love him, cares about him, wants him needs him but won’t ever love him, then later versus he finds himself in the reverse situation so he wants the girls he’s now with, he needs her, but he can’t love her, because he’s in love with the girl who broke his heart in the first verse, it’s somewhere we all been, it’s one of the all time great love songs of love unrequited love! Jim Steinman was an amazing songwriter in an amazing era but was ahead of his time as was Meat Loaf, they didn’t have it easy bringing this to label no originally wanted them, and it was some years later 77 Bat out of Hell was released, one of the greatest albums of all time with songs that will stand the test of time always. Both maybe gone, but will live on forever through this music, I’m glad I grew up with this music, if I could get in a Dorlean and go back to the future tomorrow Id do it in a heartbeat.great reaction Magee, I like the technical aspect, but I love it when I see people feel the lyrics the instrumentals this music meant something it spoke and connected why it stay in the record charts for so long, it took some longer than others to open up to it, again brainwashed by industry vampires and commercialism, this broke the mould as did Meat Loaf as a lead singer. 🤘

This song is dear to me, as it reminds me of a story my younger brother told me when I was younger, he said that he was out and about in his car with two childhood friends who were brothers, so they were there people, and then they had a crash and one of them died, and every time I listen to this song I remember that story, and then to make things worse his friend did not die during the crash, but a few days later on Mother's Day. And then there were two, and that is why two out of three ain't bad.....

7:19 He says that because of how SHE treated him. Remember the line: "You been so Cold to me I'm crying Icicles instead of Tears." This is a man who laid his heart out to her and had it crushed. It is the polar opposite of "I'll do anything for Love"

Meatloaf’s vocal and acting talent were Broadway caliber. His dancing? He’s what you’d call a “double threat”.
So he forged his own “theatrical” musical path. Bat out of Hell was a HUGE hit. Paradise by the Dashboard Light was in every jukebox in every bar in America from 1977 until the early 90s. And someone played it every night.

I am 61. I was newly enlisted in the Air Force in 1980 and was at DLI (Defense Language Institute) in Monterey, CA. The first week there (out of a year of studying Russian) I was introduced to SOO many different musical tastes and artists (Lene Lovich, B-52s, The Motels and everyone had The Cars). But it was my room mate Earl who asked if I heard of MeatLoaf. I said I only knew "Two Out of Three" . So he goes "You got to listen to this" and puts on "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". I was like WTF???!!! It was so freaking great! Of course, I had to buy the album and it's a MASTERPIECE. And those "oh so great" lyrics? The late great Jim Steinman. I think Meatloaf's greatest song is "For Cryin' Out Loud". If you like the Phil Spector wall of sound, Jim Steinman took it to a whole new level with that! The symphony I believe is the Philadelphia Philharmonic and is a 66 piece orchestra!! Hey Maggie, do that one! "For Cryin' Out Loud!"

Meatloaf's greatest hits were written by Jim Steinmann, who was also a talented pianist but not so much a singer. Meatloaf was one of a few that could get what Steinmann was trying to do with his songs.
