A bit of trivia- Back in the day Cracker Jack placed a little trinket in each of their boxes. When the line in the song "there ain't no Coupe de Ville hiden' at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box", the makers of Cracker Jack placed a Cadillac Coupe de Ville trinket in the bottom of each box as a nod to the song!

Yup. The first part of the song is him telling a girl that 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. The end of the song is him telling her that the only girl he “ever loved a long time ago” said the same thing to him. Jim Stienmann, the lyricist, is a genius! My favorite lyrics in this song are: “But you've been cold to me so long I'm crying icicles instead of tears” and “But there ain't no Coupe de Ville hidin' at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box”. First time I told a woman I loved her was my high school girlfriend in 1978, I was 17 she was 19. We were in the backseat of my ‘69 Chevy Impala parked at the beach making out. This song came on and when it ended she said, “I guess that’s the way it is with us huh”? I said, “what”? She said “you know, two out of three ain’t bad, you’re never going to love me are you”? I said, “no, that’s not true, of course I love you”. However, that was a lie, I just did not want to hurt her feelings 🤷🏼‍♂️

You can catch a glimpse of Jim Steinman on piano here. He wrote and envisioned all the songs, later produced them as well. He did the same thing for other artists too, like "Total Eclipse of the Heart" which, I might say, is his finest achievment. Don't miss out on that one. Sung by Bonnie Tyler.

I was at one of Meat Loaf's shows when he described the creation of this song. He and Jim Steinman (who wrote all of the Meat Loaf songs you've covered so far) were in a hotel room with a couple of actors (will it surprise you they both started in musical theater?). Elvis's song "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" came on the radio and their friend said, "Jimmy, you'll never write a song like this." Meat said that Jim paused for just a moment, and said, "You're right. I'll never write that. But I can write this: 'I want you, I need you, but there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you. Don't be sad, 'cause two outta three ain't bad.'"

Towards the end, everyone is seated at an oversized dinner table and the "food" is covered with a cloth. Someone asks what we're having. Doctor Frankfurter pulls the cloth away and says "Meatloaf" (its a dismembered Eddie).

The thing that always gets me about this song is the third verse. He's basically telling us he learned this from someone else, who he really hasn't let go of, and he CANT love now. If that isn't the most human thing in a song then I dont know what is. We create our own problems, sometimes.

Too much fun when this came out at 9 years young.
Happy to see you enjoying it, and happy trails from Arnprior ON!

The great Meatloaf sings a great song, beautiful. Great reaction to this emotional song. Very Broadway like showstopper.

This song speaks so much to relationship cycles, somebody hurt him in the past, and he can’t get over it; and he ends up hurting someone else the exact same way with another person.

Jim Steinman & Meatloaf, Jim Steinman & Bonnie Tyler, what powerful Albums they created. Jim's' lyrics and music and with Meat and Bonnie with such strong, distinctive and emotional voices.
I am torn as I sort of agree with @johnpearson2316 about "for crying out loud" but also love "you took the words right out of my mouth" including the preamble "on a hot summers night"

Great song, saw Meatloaf live in UK, his last concert. He was brilliant from start to finish. For me it has to be Objects by the rearview mirror my favourite. Vocally, emotionally brilliant.

Bat Out of Hell is his greatest vocal performance IMO especially for that last amazing note that he holds but his emotion is on full display with Two Out of Three Aint Bad. One song off his epic debut album that is almost never played and is great too is the high energy All Revved Up With No Pace To Go, complete with great saxophone.

Most people don’t know this but on Ted Nugents album titled Free For All, Meatloaf handled the lead vocals on the songs Writing On The Wall, Together, and Hammerdown. Check them out, the dude had a voice.

The "flip" at the end basically is that he still loves his first love, who walked out on him, and therefore can't fully commit to this new relationship.
I unfortunately can relate to this story.

You really should check out the live video for the song "I'd Lie for You (and that's the truth)." This is the one he sings with Patti Russo (she's wearing a red dress). It's not only a great song, but it also lets you see an amazing performance from these two, and the rest of the band. Meatloaf was great live.

Perhaps one of the greatest voices in rock. It still seems weird to think he is gone from us. The heavenly choir had to step up a notch when he walked in.

The guy playing the piano in the video is Jim Steinman. The man who wrote and composed a lot of Meat Loaf along with other hits performed by other artists.

This might sound weird but this song is actually my mom and dad song because on their first date this song kept playing on the radio over and over again and they played it at their wedding (R.I.P Mom)
