My Friend & I DELIGHTED by Meat Loaf - Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad | REACTION

  • This is a heartfelt ballad that explores themes of love, loss, and regret. A story of a failed relationship where two out of three aspects of love (desire, affection, and commitment) are present, but it still not enough to sustain a relationship. The emotional depth of the lyrics resonates with listeners and evokes a sense of nostalgia or personal connection.

I absolutely love this song. My favourite Meat Loaf track. Apparently he and Steinman tried very hard to get a record company to take on this concept album in 1977 and were knocked back repeatedly. The album was finally made and went on to sell something like 30 million albums - wonder where those A & R people who turned it down were working the next week LOL.

I think you actually missed the actual irony of 2out of 3 ain’t bad. He is telling a girl all of those things. But then he says there was only one girl that he ever loved, years ago. Bat Out of Hell was one of those few albums that hit hard. It's #6 best selling all time. The year it came out (1977) and for some time after, the songs from this album played over and over again everywhere. Jim Steinman is the genius behind the music. Meat Loaf and Steinman continued to have success well into the 2000s, but nothing close to Bat Out of Hell. One of those very rare albums. Meatloaf passed just last year, 2022. RIP big dog

It’s startling to me when I hear reactors talk about genres and how it’s so odd when musicians cross genre lines in different songs. That’s how artistic freedom works, you know. It’s a recent phenomenon that musicians stay “true to their brand” and never color outside their very defined lines and sound the same in every damn song. That’s why music used to be better. An artist, like anyone, can express anger, tenderness, jealousy, greed, love, outrage, sympathy, etc. and should be encouraged to express all emotions the way they see fit. You can be funky for one song and empathetic in another - and that’s not a betrayal. Peace …

This man was a master. I was in love with this guy, size, stature, vpice .. & at the time my boyfriend was the school hearthrob!
When Meatloaf toured & came to the UK I saw him in concert 3 times.
He didn't do covers. Jim Steinman & himself wrote all his music.
As for I would do anything for love .. yoiu got the meaning wrong ... people were asking him what he wouldn't do and he said the answer is in the song, which it is " the female sings " sooner or later you'll be screwing around" & he sings : No I won't do that. .. I would do anything for love .. but I won't do that .. he wouldn’t be screwing around if he was in a relationship with her (in all sincerity)
I adore him for the way he looks, his theatrical performances, his music, Jim Steinman knew exactly what to write for Meatloaf. And believe me, in concert, he sounded exactly the same. He put on a show .. well ,he had been an actor & done theatre. Jim also wrote a couple for Bonnie Tyler, with Meatloaf's blessing, so that'ts another artist to listen to.
He really was a genuinely nice guy. At the last concert I saw him at, at the end, he was all choked up because the arena was going wild.
I would have dumped the heart throb in a heartbeat if I had a chance with Meatloaf .. but nah I had no chance .. so I married the heart throb! 😅

Not sure if you caught the irony here. In the beginning hes telling his lover he has to leave her because he can never love her but needs and wants her but in the end he explains that its because the same thing happened to him years ago and thats the only girl he will ever love. The song Ba6t out of hell is a real rocker but the music video cuts out the long guitar intro. Id do anything for love is not on Bat out of Hell its on Bat out of hell 2 back into hell all songs on both were written by the piano play Jim Steinman and thats Todd Roddgren on guitar You should checkout his role in the Rocky Horror Picture Show he has quite a long list of movies he has acted in

Meatloaf also appeared in the movie "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and sung a song in that. It was brilliant. There are many stories about how he was flat broke and his agent organised him to turn up and sing. When he saw what the movie was all about he almost turned around and left but... he needed the money, so continued! LOL. He was an unknown then. About the same as Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick and Tim Curry, some of the other actors who starred in the movie.

I was only eight years old when this song came out. It came on the car radio (as it did often) and my mom announced, "well I guess he won the bet." Being a child this didn't mean anything to me. Many years later, as an adult, again this song came on the car radio as my mom and I were out driving around. I pursued that bet statement she had made many years before. She told me that he wrote this song on a bet from a friend that he couldn't write a number one love song where the chorus was two out of three ain't bad. How she knew this I do not know. I can only say that, well my mom had a lot of boyfriends when I was growing up and I wouldn't be surprised if one of them or more than that come from the music scene and that's where she gleaned this information.

I was in high school when Bat Out of Hell was released. I was said that the person who he told at the beginning of the song was the same person earlier who had spurned his affection in the latter part of the song and that his love was only for the girl who he had fallen in love with and not the person who he was telling Two Out of Three Aint bad, she had sealed her own fate So Many Years Ago......

BAT OUT OF HELL was an exceptionally successful Rock Opera/album and generated a number of chart hits written by Jim Steinman and sung by Meat Loaf. RIP both! YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH is another good one.

There’s actually three BAT OUT OF HELL albums released over the course of Meat Loaf’s career. Album one is BAT OUT OF HELL, album two is BACK INTO HELL, and album three is THE MONSTER’S LOOSE. All three are incredible pieces of work and none of the songs are disappointing.

Meat Loaf was kinda cheezy, but he came along with that big voice and those Jim Steinman theatrical lyrics and Todd Rundgren production just when we needed it, right in the middle of the disco fever crap, and kinda helped drag us out of that miasma of bad music. The big, ugly s.o.b. could sing!

All his songs were written by Jim Steinman, the master of cliches, who also wrote for Bonnie Tyler. (Total Eclipse of the Heart.)

Bat Out of Hell was a concept album. To really appreciate it you have to listen to the whole thing, - not for a reaction, but to see what made Meatloaf so great. It's worth the time. Who cares what Rolling Stone thought?

MY take on the song (and this always stirs up differences of opinion) is that in the first stanza, it is HE who is giving the lecture to his lover in present day. He borrows the cold "I want you, I need you but...... 'cuz two out of three ain't bad" line from the girl he actually loved "so many years ago" who hammered him with it. He describes that scene in the 2nd stanza. There will be others who jump on my interpretation, but it seems pretty clear to me if you read the lyrics closely. The song is even better when you realize what he's saying and where it came from.
