Your dad is right. The "Bat out of hell" album is a masterpiece, all songs written by genius Jim Steinman (The man playing the piano). Meat Loaf has so many good songs. In fact, I couldn't find a bad one yet. 😊 I feel like I'm literally drawn into the song, like I'm watching a stage play when he's singing and acting.

"Read 'Em and Weep" summed up my emotions perfectly after both Jim Steinman and Meat passed...Well, that and "I'll Kill You if You Don't Come Back", which would also be fun to see a reaction to!

OMG, you got it! Of all the reaction vids on this song I’ve been hitting up, you understood the concept of a shattered heart. That it needs to heal, or it can’t give again fully. One aspect I just realized now, when you were talking about cycles, is it was a stormy night when the first girl left him, and it’s a stormy night when he was having this convo with girl 2. Thank you for that clue 😌. Really enjoyed this video of yours, thanks for sharing. And thank pops for letting you know about this fantastic album; grill the guy a steak!

The first girl is the same as the second girl she left him broke his heart and then later she came back to him but she'd been cold to him so long he was crying icicles instead of Tears meaning he couldn't love her anymore because she broke his heart so the same girl a different times it is life

I’ve fallen into your Meatloaf rabbit hole. I’m so glad you’re not just enjoying the music of Meat, but you’re actually paying attention to the lyrics. Some of the best writing in the biz.
Bat Out of Hell is one of my deserted island albums. Perfectly written and performed. You’ve gotta finish out the album.
If you like the writing, the layers, the story, check out Springsteen’s Born to Run (the whole album), from Thunder Road on. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
    Cheers!

I love Meatloaf and my dad introduced me to him too.
He took me to a Meatloaf concert as a young teen. To this day it was the most epic, theatrical concert I've been to.
After my dad was diagnosed with cancer I was lucky enough to return the favor and take him too a Meatloaf concert. One of the best memories I have of him.
Meatloaf's death hit hard for me.

Meatloaf was such a dynamic performer. No matter what he was doing, weather he was on stage doing his musical show, or on stage doing a cinematic production like “Rocky Horror Picture Show”, or on Broadway, he was 100% into it. Bat Out Of Hell was the album for which he gained the most acclaim.
My suggestion for what I would like to hear would be Beth Hart. She’s an amazing blues singer from L. A. but she’s definitely realized her greatest fame in Europe. I say bring her home to the good old USA, and get her the credit she deserves as
The Reigning Queen Of The Blues. Anything from the Royal Albert Hall shows with either Beth with her band, or with Joe Bonomasa and his band will be spectacular. I promise that it will be worth your time. ♥️✌🏼😎

Welcome to the genius that is Jim steinman! No other lyricist in my opinion can come close. No wonder even Andrew Lloyd Webber turned to him to write the lyrics to his musical whistle down the wind....
    Subtle hint coming...
YOU MUST REACT TO FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!!
then you'll see the full power of what happens when meat loaf sings Jim Steinmans words...
Rest in peace meat and Jim... I'll always love you both

    • @riffbw

Thank you! Not enough people talk about For Crying Out Loud! Easily the most difficult song Meat ever recorded and pushed him to his limits and the writing is superb.
I believe Meat has two answers and I'm blanking on the first (I'm thinking Martha), but his second that he rarely talks about or gives as an answer is For Crying Out Loud. But he does openly praise that song and said he didn't give any input after it was written because it was perfect as it was.

I also highly recommend Objects In the Rear View Mirror, but it helps to know some context. Jim Steinman wrote that song for Meat knowing Meat's childhood trauma with an abusive, alcoholic father. At 19 years old, just 4 days after his mother's funeral, his father tried to kill him in a drunken rage. The song touches on these memories in a very strong way.

I'm totally envying her. But I'm also aware of the fact that I've been listening to this song for over 45 years now, on quite a regular base I should add, and I can also envy myself for having had the spirit to buy the album within a week when it came out and falling in love with it and being able to listen to it for that long. This song is sweeping, sorrowful, melancholy but nuanced as well, not without a deadpan sense of humor about itself (no coupe de ville hiding at the bottom of a crackerjack box). It recognises that loving someone that doesn't love you back isn't just sad, it's also a little silly, but we can't help it all the same.

Bat out of Hell a classic rock opera and yes the songs go together, other rock operas from that time period include Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, the Who Tommy, Pink Floyd The Wall all incredible stories and incredible albums... That said if you are into lyrics and storyline may I suggest artists that never put out rock Opera however were masters at storytelling Jim Croce, Bread, Simon and Garfunkel, Peter Paul and Mary who did so much more than Puff the Magic Dragon... Check out Don't Think Twice It's Alright which is their cover of a Bob Dylan song... Another master of the storytellers.... It's so much fun to watch reactions to music I grew up with and gratifying that your and others appreciation ensures that these classics will live on at least a couple more generations ❤

I got dumped by a guy using the song as the the opener of a mix tape tucked in with some flowers and a box of Cracker Jacks on my door.
No one likes getting dumped and he did put a lot of effort into the mix tape. 😂
He popped up a few years later when he heard I was getting married. He gave me the key to his (empty) cabin in case I chickened out. I didn't like getting dumped but I did understand his point about settling and what honesty you owe your partner and yourself.
I didn't chicken out but I felt weirdly encouraged to know that was an option at least one person could understand.
