Basic LT1 Tuning (Part 1): Getting Started

- This is the first part of a series I'll be making on basic tuning of 94-95 OBD1 LT1 computers. This method is much more cost effective than others and will usually only run you the price of an ALDL cable (although, it is possible to make your own, google it). If your car is not OBD1, you can convert it by swapping knock sensors/module.This tutorial covers the basic programs I'll be using, what they do, and how to navigate them.

Would love to see a part 2!! I found this first video very informative. Im rebuilding a 96 lt1 z28 and i swapped a 95 computer in it. Plan on putting this usefull info to work. Keep up the good content!

Hi man im just getting into tuneing so i went 2 the tp site not sure how much i need 2 download do i just load tp rt or more stuff?

I’m down just looking for reliable definition files for my 95. Would love to hear you elaborate on this part..Tuner Pro’s site gives a link for newer/ better files on the “ee” definitions line but following that I don’t see a clearly labeled xdf or adx for my 95 Z28 auto. Forums are cluttered with a lot of outdated info.
Is there any programs I can use for obd2 computers like the one in my 97? I know your vid was 2 years ago but has anything came out?

I’ve got an 94 fbody lt1, it’s a swap I used the painless harness so I ended up with a obd2 aldl connector. Will that moates cable work for me? It says for 95. I’ve changed the tire size parameters years ago when I built the car but I forgot most of what I learned, glad you posted this it’s a great help.
Yes it will work. There are 2 varieties of the Moates cable, you'd want the 95 variant.
why does the tuner pro shut down when I try to open the EE file?

ive tried installing Winflash but for some reason the application Icon just won't show up. it's installled but has no way to actually initiate the program even after uninstalling and reinstalling. windows 10. any ideas? i'm gonna keep trying but this is rather odd.

Just the XDF is all you need for tuning. The other file is for logging I believe, but I typically use Scan9495 or EEhack for that.

ok so i read the pcm and downloaded the bin file but when i try to open the bin file in tunerpro it says "file not found"..... im lost

I did it on my laptop it didn't recognize anything. I did the compatibility mode, and I used TunerCats just like the one here.

I’ve increased Throttle body to 58 mm And want to increase my mass air sensor how would you tell the computer you’ve done this
58mm wont flow like a 58 with a stock lt1 intake it will flow only as good as a 52mm because on the LT1 the intake air opening that the TB bolts too is 52mm you can port the intake opening to 58mm so it flows but most go with 52mm tb over stock 48mm cause of this.
Great video. I’m in the process of getting ready to tune my 97 SS. For the obd 1 conversion do I just get a pcm from a 95 and just plug it up in place of the obd2 pcm? Or is there some wiring involved? Thanks
For the fbodies, all you need to change is the knock sensor on the bottom of the block. The obd1 computer is plug and play, just make sure you're running it with a obd1 fbody knock module (chip in the computer) too.

I'll get to it when I get to it lol. Making vids is time consuming and I don't see a cent from YT. Been using that time to go racing instead.
I wouldn’t call it bricking. You should always back up the original tune…. Also, remove the eeprom chip from the pcm board, dump and save the contents from the EEPROM as well. This way here if it “bricks” you can reload the data to your eeprom and you’re good to go.

A well known tuner told me the mystery timing degrees do not actually apply to the timing, you just see it in the data logger. Are you familiar with that? Seems no one has an answer on that as if it does or not.
