Hey I’m also interested in doing an IRP but I’m a bit clueless on how to get started, how did you conduct yours? Pls let me know as I’m short on time thank you so much for your dedication to this video, it’s amazing!!❤
i'd love to do pharmacy at ucl but i dont have the wanted gcse maths grade (lmfao) but seriously thank you for this video! it has helped me immensely 🙏
Aw sorry to hear that. Have you checked to see whether you’d be eligible for a lowered math grade entry requirement due to mitigating circumstances? Some unis tend to allow students if they meet some criteria eg FSM etc. If that doesn’t work, I’m sure there are many other great UK pharmacy schools you can still get into. All the best✨
Hi! I am currently writing my personal statement and your video is being very helpful!!!!! I was wondering, did you use acronyms in your personal statement? I noticed you said IRP rather than independent research project and I wodered whether you actually wrote IRP in your personal statement as I would like to do that too to save a little bit of space. P.D. Thank you so much for this video!!!!
You’re welcome Gill! I wrote IRP because I was really struggling with the word limit lol, but I’d advise that you limit your use of abbreviations. It was the only abbreviation I used
Hello can I talk about personal challenges ( kind of crisis like being very sick) that I had to face recently and how they made me grow and motivated me to do something great with my life ?
Absolutely! It’s your journey and so it’s okay to personalise it. However don’t forget to talk about other crucial things too, like things you have done that make you the right candidate
thanks so much this video was so helpful! with irp's, do they need to be healthcare based? I did the Nuffield research project over Summer but wasn't really given a choice and had to accept the geology-based one they gave me
Some unis allow you to send a separate PS from the one you sumjitted through UCAS so ask if you have that option. Alternatively, you can deduce areas of intersection between pharmacy and biomed and explore them in your PS
Heyyy. There are a couple of things you could do. 1.Go to pharmacies with your resume + letter of recommendation (basically a letter from your teacher bigging you up) from your sixth form. Explain that you want to study pharmacy in uni and would appreciate some experience. Even it’s for a day or 2, most pharmacies will be happy to let you shadow them. 2. If you know someone who works in pharmacy ask them 3. If you can’t get a pharmacy work experience, Volunteer at a care home/hospice, it’s still related to healthcare so you can include it in your PS
No you aren’t screwed. When it comes to experience it’s quality over quantity. Even if you only have one, the most important things is how you reflect on it especially at interview. What have you learnt from it? How did it influence your decision to study pharmacy. What would you do different etc. it’s all about reflection. You’ve got this! All the best.
does an Epq count as research you done outside school and could you include an EPQ you've done in year 10 or does it have to be one during sixth form. thanks
yes i think an EPQ counts as independent research; however, when it comes to your PS, i think relevance is important- research you did 3-4 years ago (seeing as you apply in year 13) in my opinion isn't as relevant to your application. i'd say include something much more recent and relevant.
You can reach out to pharmacies with a CV and explain that you want to study pharmacy too and would appreciate some shadowing there. Some may allow you. Or if you know someone in the field they could help you out.
Whatever you put on your Ps should be relevant to the course you’re applying. So if those “courses” have nothing to do with the course you’ve applying to I wouldn’t mention it. Relevance is the key here
No you don’t have enough characters for that. Give a brief description, the outcome, what you learnt from it and how it has motivated you to study pharmacy
Heyy I did a little research and found that UCL offers some scholarships. You can explore what they have to offer using this link, hope you find it helpful 💗✨ www.ucl.ac.uk/scholarships/funding-students-undergraduate-courses
Hi, so technically I am an Egyptian student, and here we have a different system for unis and stuff, so anyway, I got my highscool certificate from there, and I got accepted in an Egyptian pharmacy school and I have taken my first year there and all, and will probably proceed to take my second as well, but there is a chance, I will be moving to UK and I want my personal statement to be ready (as I will have to go through first year again and all the application procedure), I emailed one of the pharmacy schools, and they said I can go through first year again, but I will have to apply and all, do I write about these two years I will be having at home? And do student activities at university count too (I was part of the charity organization at uni)? Also, if you can help me by just giving me some hints about the application procedure, I will really appreciate it. The video was honestly so useful and gave me some hope that it may not be as hard. (Needs work, but not as impossible as it sounds) This is all foreign to me and I will really appreciate the help, thank you so much
As you’ve requested, I will fill a video discussing the application process. Make sure that whatever you include in your PS is relevant to the course you’re applying to study and answers the question “why should we choose you over the next applicant?” So if you cannot draw any relevance from some of the activities you’ve engaged in perhaps they might not be vital for your PS. Be mindful of your word limit too!
@@scillaasa thank you, but what's the world limit again? I have less than 4000 character. I have been studying pharmacy in Egypt so it was honestly kind of relevant, but I didn't get into details about that (just mentioned that it allowed me to have a background on how demanding pharmacy is and a general idea about what it is about) and instead talked about my extracurricular activities, like charity activities with the SU which helped my team working skills and volunteering at a pharmacy. I also talked about the reasons I wish to study in the UK and my English skills as well.
Thank you, this actually helped me see little things I've missed in my personal statement. Well done. I will keep u posted!!!
You’re absolutely welcome

You’re welcome! Go for it girl! UCL is a great uni. I’ll upload a video later on how to ace the interview too✨
@@scillaasa yes please! this will help so much! Did u do any written exams for UCL pharmacy?
I sat an online exam. It had maths & chemistry questions and an essay at the end. I’ll make another video on that✨

So glad it helped! All the best!

It needs to be a topic that is relevant to the course you’re applying to.
I want to apply to both pharmacy and biomedical science, do you have any tips on how i should write my personal statement for this?
Some unis allow you to send a separate PS from the one you sumjitted through UCAS so ask if you have that option. Alternatively, you can deduce areas of intersection between pharmacy and biomed and explore them in your PS

Any link or anything …mentioned plz
i will make a video on that soon so be on the look out for it

How could do you gain work experience at 17 ?
You can reach out to pharmacies with a CV and explain that you want to study pharmacy too and would appreciate some shadowing there. Some may allow you. Or if you know someone in the field they could help you out.
is it a drag if I say bc I was a barista it kinda improved my manual dexterity 😭
Hi I have gone through some of you videos what if your applying for different courses. Then no need to mention the Course right??
Whatever you put on your Ps should be relevant to the course you’re applying. So if those “courses” have nothing to do with the course you’ve applying to I wouldn’t mention it. Relevance is the key here
when talking about your reasearch project should you actually explain it. Like talk about all its details?
