Thank you so much for this I have a multi-mini-interviews next week and this was useful. I was just wondering what would come up in the assessments since I have an online test for a pharmacy school the same day after interviews. Thanks!💞💞
@lol.1296 @ ilov3sabs Sure! For my choices I chose for pharmacy University of nottingham, university of Birmingham and Aston University as they were close to me. For Aston what they did is they gave you a pre interview task which was basically 2 scenarios (with you opinion whether you agree/ disagree with the statement) questions and an answer box to give your reasons to if you think xyz should be done or not. The entire interview for me was all about that and that's why I was rejected from this uni. Most are tick boxes and then the massive paragraph after. Remember though this is your opinion and you can basically say anything you want so long as its relevant and they can understand why you would think that would be the case. The second was University of Nottingham and for this they did the same as medicine that being MMI style interview with a varied choice of questions. For me, I was given 5 slides with questions. First was why do you want to do pharmacy, for this obviously state why you believe pharmacy is the right course for you to persue as a career and make sure you go into detail as they will reject you like me for not giving enough detail which unfortunately because I didn't prepare for the interview very well. Second was about current hot healthcare topics like for example the fact pharmacists can instantly become independent prescribers from September 2026 onwards. But you could also mention other relevant topics such as the pharmacy first scheme where you can get prescription based medications over the counter. In my opinion it's good to give maybe 1 or 2 detailed sentences about these topics. For my 3rd slide I was given a scenario to do with an elderly mother forgetting to take her medications but is unable to walk to the pharmacy so her daughter goes to get them but is concerned that her mother isn't consistently taking her medications prescribed. They ask you what would you do in this situation. For me I kinda waffled here but think of this scenario from the elderly patients POV. My fourth and fifth slides were very random. The next slide was all maths questions, extremely easy maths questions but time will get to you as well as the interviewer pressuring you if we can move on. My advice is to kind of ignore the interviewer when he says if you can move on, obviously don't ignore the interviewer completely because that could show you are rude but try to keep calm and when the interviewer tells you if you want to move on just say if you can have a couple more seconds. For this they give you TWO MINUTES to answer 5 easy pharmacy related calculations and you are allowed pen and paper to note it down, but please do not make stupid mistakes like I did by not using simple methods you learnt in year 5 like bus stop method because they will give you a simple division by a number but don't try to do it mentally as it makes it impossible. Also remember your conversions (g to mg/ g to mg/ g to micrograms) as that's what came up for me. But honestly you should be sound if you get any question like that in any of your universities. Finally what I got was all chemistry questions at the end, these were Year 12 style questions where they mostly ask you about the properties of aspirin and naming functional groups like e.g the COOH group on aspirin. They also tell you random ones like naming a group you haven't heard of but have learnt how to name so be prepared on that if you get a chemistry question. My interview was short (about 15 mins long) with about 3 mins per section so try to take your time with answering the questions and think carefully about what you are going to say to the interviewer as they will judge you on everything you say. Finally for UoB they asked me about 4-5 questions. For me there was a scenario purely based on confidentiality along with questions at the end on random things like how you show respect towards others and how you demonstrated a way in which you can improve. Or even why pharmacy which is easy. Id say use chat gpt if you're stuck with trying to give an answer to the interviewer but put it in your own words. Make sure you don't use your phone obviously in the interview as they can see it. The scenario was very easy and basically all you do is talk about confidentiality that's it. Most of the time you're waiting for an ID check and being moved into random zoom calls and for me my interview lasted 10 mins. So that's how my unis went and my advice for you, obviously this is going to change between different universities so make sure you're prepared for any question they ask you. Big advice is to honestly use chat gpt to give you scenarios based on pharmacy then ask them how they would approach the question. Also look on Google for lots of different pharmacy questions and make sure you have an answer for every single question that comes up and do not just sit there as they will mark you down for that. You can say something like can I have a second to think and they will allow you that but don't pause for a considerable amount of time as they will think you are unprepared or something. Good luck for your interviews!
Hi thanks for this video and I have a question if I don't know 'what contribution could you bring to a career as a pharmacist' is just another way to ask you the responsibility of a good pharmacists, can I just ask the interviewer to elaborate on this question? And also how do you know what they are looking for and answer based on that...
You are allowed to ask interviewers for clarity, so definitely do that. Having said that, an aspect of interviewing is to test your ability to think on your feet and so they might not explicitly rephrase the question but they should give you pointers that will hopefully make the question clearer.
I’m terms of knowing what answer they’re looking for, a good resource would be the GPhC. Look at their standards for pharmacy professionals and take note of the embedded qualities they mention.
Hi, Im a medicine applicant and my PS is geared towards medicine, even though it does include pharmacy elements in the PS, i doesnt seem enough to express my interest and motivation for pharmacy as my goal is medicine. I received an interview invitation from nottingham pharmacy but how should i answer questions like "why study pharmacy?" or like "what made you interested in pharmacy, not other courses?" , since they already know my main interest is something else because of my PS, should i try answering as if i am truly interested in pharmacy nothing else, or should i answer with my medicine geared thoughts?
lool im in the same boat. I do have previous experience working as a pharmacy assistant for just over half a year at least so that'll help. if you have had any sort of experience working with patients or helping people in a medical/care setting, I think that could be a good aspect to talk about and how you would want to translate that into a pharmacist role as they deal with patients a lot. Also just look up pharmacy interview mock questions online and answer them to the best of your abilities whether alone or w a friend. Read up on pharmacy life including the course itself - even if it's not your main goal, you still have to seem very interested in it.
