In honor of American Pharmacists Month, it's a joy to highlight a special part of the medical care team. Thank you Dr. Winston for all your work both in pharmacy and as an educator to our medical students!
Omg can I be her friend !?! She is so extremely bright yet so down to earth and kind! Very relatable, mad respect to her🙌🏼 Can tell she loves her job and is good at it 💙 Another great pick ✨
I am so glad to see a video on a Pharm.D., many people do not give enough credit to pharmacists and that needs to change! True medical experts that advise physicians on the best drug to treat the patient and protect the patient's health. Pharmacists are extremely knowledgeable healthcare providers. As a student pharmacist, I am so glad to see a representation of our profession.
Really love and appreciate these kinds of videos. Pharmacists deserves more recognition across the globe, and to be acknowledged for what they do and what they can deliver. Thank you for this!
She is absolutely an amazing representative for the pharmacy profession. I love to just listen to her talk and explain things. She has a real talent for teaching. Down to earth and friendly. What a lovely personality.
Been watching your series for quite some time now - it's so wonderful to see you feature a pharmacist. As a pharmacist myself (I am currently not practicing it, however I am still in healthcare) it absolutely warms my heart to see someone speak with such passion about the importance of it. This is making me miss my days in pharmacy school, especially during my clinical rotations - you learn so much about yourself during this time period. This pharmacist is not only extremely knowledgeable but also is so kind and passionate about her students. Anyone would be lucky to have her as their preceptor = )
she was an incredible preceptor for the two weeks i had her haha but yes it's always so important for us as future physicians to learn that the healthcare team is beyond the MD/DO physicians
@@NDMDplease could you help me understand if a person gets a Higher National Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology and still choose the clinical pharmacy aspect or still go to pharmacy school again. Because higher national diploma degree is a five year course.
I am so grateful to pharmacists, thank you to all the pharmacists out there for their excellent work ❤️ P.s.: can you please make a video with an oncologist, that's my dream job, I am from Italy and I am looking forward to having a fellowship there in the US! ❤️😍
I’m a final year pharmacy student and I confirm this. I rarely see any classmates fall in love with these enormous and confusing 3D chemical structures 😂. Teachers who teach this subject are all absolute genius in my opinion 😅
I don’t understand why physicians just don’t stop with a diagnosis and let pharmacologists and pharmacist decide which drug in which formulation has to be prescribed for it and actually have right to prescribe it. Since medics are not the experts of drugs they don’t even understand fully the difference between ibuprofen, diclofenac, nimesulide in terms of cox ratio inhibition. Especially in neuropsychopharmacology there should be a pharmacologist to manage therapies not medics, they should just diagnose and check up. Not givin drugs.
Good point but to be fair, I think there are egos at play and that would be too much for MDs to “share” a patient. They always call in saying “my patient this” “my patient that” as it is.
Because md’s dont have time for that. Theyre accurate 90% of the time, and the 10% when theyre wrong with dosing/drugs the pharmacist will call it out. Done, thats it. No need to include the pharmacist from step 1
I would love to see one with a Biomedical Scientist (Medical Laboratory Scientist in the US) ☺️ we are involved in around 80% of decisions regarding patient care, but so under-represented due to not being patient facing.
Hello.i m from India. I did four years graduation in pharmacy and currently doing internship in Hospital. Its really interesting to hear an experienced pharmacist .
If you asked me the biggest con of pharmacy is that if you decide to commit even more time and increasing debt interest to residency/fellowship, you make the same or less vs retail pharmacists who just need the PharmD, and the clinical jobs aren’t as readily available. Maybe things will change over time.
You can easily tell, she is a GREAT educator. Look at the passion with which she explains and elaborates. If only we had professionals like her in our corrupt medical schools and my country's medical education system. (sigh) Future doctors deserve to (and should) have great educators, and I hope one day, despite never having had one in my medical school, I become one. What an inspiration, Dr. Winston. Thanks a million for doing this series Andy! Keep it up!
Currently thinking about switching from Nursing to Pharmacy. Pharmacists to me are so knowledgeable so I'm pretty scared to not be as capable of doing the degree :( But either way I'm very excited for what this new career has to offer to me and I hope I'm not making a mistake and pharmacy does end up being for me. Dr Winston seems like a very intelligent, down to earth and kind person. Truly an inspiration, thank you for this interview.
My number one suggestion to you: spend a few days in a retail pharmacy. Maybe even get your tech license before going to pharmacy school. The chaos of customers, insurance, and phone calls is not for everyone, and there's not enough hospital positions to go around.
This channel really makes me feel like I could reach PhD status.. dental hygiene student right now and I feel like my only option would be DDS but I don't want that
Thank you for celebrating American Pharmacists Month and highlighting the profession Dr. Winston! I'm a board certified in critical care pharmacist and also work in academia.
All respects to pharmacists and I am aware this is to bring awareness to their profession, but I believe some recognition to Pharmacy Technicians is necessary as in the majority of settings Pharmacists need them to carry out tasks of running the pharmacy in most settings. Some examples are the Vanco is dosed by a pharmacist but it’s made by an IV technician 9 times out of 10. The outpatient scrips are filled by technicians. The “Vending machine” like drug dispensers are almost always restocked by Technicians. Etc…
OMG youtube recommended this video! my answer would be the same " studying and med chem was my favorite subject" and the funny thing is that I just started my PhD at UW-Madison!!!
Love your unique way of making videos Andy MD, Do you've the podcast for the same ? I think if no then it might be really great to have it, people like me will really like to hear amazing Q&A by experts while driving or doing any other work ! Thank You : )

Do one with medical laboratory technologist
Good morning dr. Winston
I have a question
Do pharmacist adminster medications?
If yes, in what conditions and do they need certifications?
Two doctorates, bachelors, and a masters? Wow!
@@lina_lovee she probably got a stipend for the research degrees . I could be wrong
@@xo7499 you’re probably right. In most cases people in teaching positions in universities have doctorate degrees

In my country Bangladesh... Pharmacists are not even officially permitted to suggest patients any drug...it is only permitted to physicians.
