You cannot out-shank a Bri'ish
True dat and you're late
didn't expect you to be here
Tank I didn't know you here
And enjoy death battle
Tank wut u doin here
Hey tank are ya happy with da results?
Jonathan crying and being emotional towards a man he just met (and killed) while having a sword inpaled thru his chest is the most part 1 thing ive ever seen
Nah, he just sad to see him die
You know how Jonathan just squirted snake venom out of himself, and everyone was like, "huh, that was pretty cool." And then he did that again?
it was one of the Jojo-est thing that a Joestar done
That's the most Johnathanest thing Johnathan would ever do
Thanks for spoiler The Spoiler
That last part of the fight was really moving. Respect for Jonathan. He is indeed a gentleman.
You know this fight made me realize he kept his word and that all that matters
Guy did not kill All Might in their fight.
Eric gave the boy some death that he asked for.
Superman gave Goku an apology before killing him because he really wants to fight him again so bad and it might destroy the earth again.
Lastly, Thor told Vegeta to aim for his crooked head.
1k likes and 2 replies?
I'll fix that
At least one thing made me smile the most..... Nezuko didn't die
As a Demon Slayer fan, I see this loss more as a win
"Demons made tanjiro cry but a demon cried for Jonathan" are words that always ring true to me
Damn, that just hits soo hard 😭
Neat
Johnathan dodging at the last second there was quite possibly the most Jojo thing ever.
Definitly

For real!
I thought he used hamon to move his organs.
@@alovekok9044 hamon cant move organs it can only turn the off and on again think of it as electricity but not really has it is powered by the sun
Jonathan shrinking his lung to make a 2 inch gap is the most jojo thing ever, we just want speedwagon explaining this to us
Giorno theme plays
“Of course! JoJo released every last bit of air in his lungs the very moment that blade struck, creating a sligh’ gap between them; enough for the child’s sword to slip in that created gap! Don’t let down, JoJo~!!”
Lowkey thought that would of happened
He moved at the last minute to make tanjiro miss he didn’t shrink his lung that would mess up his breathing

I liked that at first Jonathan was after Nezuko mistaking her as a servant of Dio, but when Tanjiro told him that she's his sister just before dying, Jonathan swore to protect her in his place to make amends to him. It shows how honorable Jonathan truly is.
I dont like how Tanjiro didn't just lead with that like he did with Giyuu. 🗿

No.
I'd like to imagine that if Nezuko gets her own episode, it opens as a replay of this, but Tanjiro _does_ do that, prompting Jonathan to apologize only for the two of them to then go "Wait! Where did she go?!"
two things. 1: I love how they portrayed Jonathon and Tanjiro, I legitimately believe that if these two fought that this would be how they'd react. 2: I am really hoping that if they ever do a death battle that involves Nezuko or another one with Jonathan, that the fight scene would be cannon to this one, with the two traveling together with Jonathan keeping his promise.
This comment is good and everything, but who the hell is "Jonathon"?
@@bigbywolf5197 Typo; I meant Jonathan
It'd be a short journey since hamon can evaporate the demons in 1or 2 hit
Death battle wont do it. But I hope there's a comic of them
Jonathan: Well, Dio is finally finished, all that’s left is Muzan. I’m sure your brother’s proud of what you’ve done up to this point.. Hop on-
Simon Belmont (possible opponent): Halt, Joestar! And hand her over! That creature you are siding with is a demon, and it is my job to eradicate it permanently! Once that monster plunges itself to hell, I will defeat Muzan myself!
Jonathan: You’re wrong! With a help of my companions, I will find a way to turn her back into normal! Whoever you are, stay out of our way!
Simon: So be it, Joestar..
FIGHT!!
Of all the voice acting in Death Battle, i think Jonathan's is my favorite.
His good nature sounds so genuine, and yet, every single "Overdrive" is so primal, ferocious, and mighty
the power in his voice
Let's be real though. This fight would 100% have been avoided. Jonathan would absolutely ask about Nezuko before actually attacking.

According to the spiffing Brit that would give him the power of God, anime and the immortal queen
I really loved the detail of the battle, even the final notes, the second to last note ascends and sounds like the start of Roundabout and then it cuts off as Nezuko pulls back, almost like the end of a Jojo episode, "To be Continued".

they're both already dead. Jonathan was killed by dio and Tanjiro died of old age.
This battle will honestly be painful considering it’s literally two of the nicest characters fighting over a misunderstanding, if Death Battle rules weren’t included these guys would be best friends
Thinks they’ll pull a DP VS Pinky?
I guess you could say DEATH BATTLE is fucked up

And only one of them will survive leaving the other in pieces
I imagine they’d do sparring but to the death? Not in a million years
Over a year later and that Sunlight Yellow Overdrive still gives me chills.
you forgot one thing. Jonathan ripped apart steel even TARKUS couldnt pull. Meaning hes quite literally stronger than that giant guy.
Notably, based on the abilities shown, that's something that I don't know any protagonist's stand could have done except maybe Jotaro. We know that even Crazy Diamond has difficulty even *damaging* thick steel, as shown with Superfly, so, unironically, that feat could genuinely be used to say that Jonathon is, through raw physical ability, COMPARABLE TO STAR PLATINUM IN PART 3. Like it's such an insane feat in universe that kind of just gets absolutely slept on because Araki hadn't quite found his voice as a storyteller in part 1.
@@Mr.MonacleSuperfly is an outlier. Okuyasu’s The Hand also barely damaged it, and you know what his stand does.
@@Rock-vk9eiNo they pummeled it when Crazy Diamond and The Hand were dual barraging it, the issue was that the energy got rebound back to them negating the damage done to the structure.
@@Mr.MonacleSuperfly doesn't really count as the energy got rebound when they were barraging it. Hell, Crazy Diamond outpaced Star Platinum during their first encounter. Although in strength Star Platinum is confirmed to be the strongest for good reason due to the breaking of diamond teeth feat.
@@Soulfin Brother you can see and hear The Hand using its ability.
There is no energy being returned if it’s straight up being erased/teleported.
Therefore it is an outlier that cannot be explained.
Plus, Star Platinum was basically never used for like 2 years. It’s obviously gotten weaker and slower, there’s no way it’s on par with Part 3 Star Platinum.
Out of all the Death Battles, this ought to be the most honorable duel ever.
Agreed 110%
Yeah, I feel like the death here is ultimately unfortunate. I'm sure Jonathan would've liked to avoid it, but you know, sometimes things happen and escalate in such a way that this is result, even if it's not what either of them would've wanted.
Crying like Real Men 😭!
Now we need joshep and pig guy from demon slayer
@@EmeraldEyesEsoteric Jonathan was very gullible and had a heart of gold, if Tanjiro had told him earlier that she was his sister he really would've let them go right there.
The funny part about this death battle is that these two wouldn't ever fight each other, they're both too damn nice :')
A lot of characters would never fight each other if it weren't for Death Battle to be honest.
Let's take Superman vs Goku for example. Goku likes to fight yes but if someone doesn't want too he's not gonna force them and Superman obviously wouldn't fight for pointless reasons, so Goku attacking him was a bit out of character.
But character changes need to happen for this kind of battle to take place.
@@abovearth6740 I agree, except that Goku will fight anyone and will basically beg for it if they are powerful enough. The dude was training and fighting people in the afterlife, is nobody he won't try to fight. I agree that he wouldn't straight up attack someone, but he would do almost anything besides being evil to get them to fight.
The whole thing of nezuko being tanjiro's sister would've been expositioned on literally minutes after meeting
they would fight, just not to the death.
im that one guy who reads the comments before i watch it and you spoiled it D:
Whoever voiced Jonathan here is goated. The way he screams Overdrive is so nice to hear.

Only Jonathan can keep complimenting his opponent’s skills mid-fight, win with a sword lodged in his chest, and then apologize, give him a painless death, and vow to protect his demon sister with his life. I’m happy with how DB portrayed him. Spot on. True gentleman.
At the first few secs he wasn't already his character, glad they fixed him a bit more
Es bizarro
I honestly thought he was trying to heal Tanjiro with Hamon but failed, not give him a painless death
@@Drake-em3yd unfortunately it's cause of the rules: where even if both good characters, they have to fight
I thought Jonathan can heal people with hamon
the reason they battled is inaccurate, tanjiro would've told him his story and Jonathan would've understood, as they are both well mannered men
This got it
they probably know but they needed a good reason for them to fight
Rule #2
Unfortunately that's not what Death Battle is about, but now I've got some Fan Fiction Fuel!

@@ferdous.111and sense he is here they ran away
They just need an excuse for them to fight
I'm honestly still kinda surprised how near perfect these characters are to pair for a fight
Let's see:
- Powers uses breathing as a basis, and said powers/equipment are based on sunlight
- fights immortal vampire-like opponents with advanced biological manipulation, unique abilities and regeneration
- Fights said vampire-like beings for killing what's left of their family
- Takes place in ancient times
- naturally good natured and possesses persistence and will power as bright as a bonfire
- Technically uses water and fire based attacks (Tanjiro: Water and Sun Breathing. Jonathan: Turquoise Blue Overdrive and Scarlet Overdrive)
- Both use swords (even if Jonathan only gets his quarter and halfway through his story and doesn't even use it that much)
Hell, their COLORS are swapped. Jonathan having dark hair with light blue highlights and blue colored eyes, while Tanjiro has dark hair with light red highlights and red colored eyes.
- Both have a special mark that does funky stuff in the story?
Good comparison, but Scarlet Overdrive is a blood-based attack, not a fire-based one
@@WebbedManiac Was more referencing the scarlet overdrive used to defeat Dio in the tower (which is also a power he unleashes to get past an enemies originally unbeatable power and technically take them down, before said enemy saves themselves via self decapitation... Huh.)
Didn't you know demon slayer's creator took ideas from jojo?
Neither of them are in that ancient of times. Demon Slayer takes place in the early 1900s, and Phantom Blood takes place in the 1880s

The one thing I hated was how Jonathan always said he was a gentleman in this battle. Anyone who's seen jojo would know Jonathan would let his actions speak for him, not his words
one could say that this was a *bizarre* take on him
I havent seen Jojo so I could be off here, but I would imagine the reason Jonathan is giving his word as a gentleman verbally is because he's reassuring a dying guy in his arms that everything is going to be ok after he passes.

Post analysis side notes:
16:32 Even if they applied kinetic energy to Tanjiro's speed feats, the results would still be inferior to those of other major JoJo feats that Jonathan scales to, such as Jolyne deflecting meteorites.
16:50 While Joseph has had superior ripple training, he was able to keep up with Pillar Men (who have also reacted to light beams) while still a novice.
17:17 Jonathan's hamon healing was also superior to Tanjiro's; while Tanjiro could merely slow bleeding, Jonathan could heal entire broken limbs.
...Johnathan scales to a stand?
I knew this fight had bad analysis but jesus
@@ChaoticMess5618 Jonathan scales to Dio who scales to a stand?
The idea that Dio didn't get a stat bump after getting a stand. Because grafting onto Jonathan made him weaker?
@@sirkillalot9892 no, neither of them scale to a damn stand, not at all.
@@sirkillalot9892Jonathan never had a stand, and the Dio he fought never had one either, and would be a genuinely fodder demon in Demon Slayer. Dio wouldn't even make it to the bottom of the Twelve Kizuki before he gets a stand.
@@sirkillalot9892 Jonothan who scales to pre-stand Dio who never knew wtf a stand was. Jonathan does not scale to post-stand dio, considering at that point Jonathan's head had been separated from his body for a long time with his body stolen by Dio.
Grafting onto Jonathan made him weaker than if he had his natural body still and developed stand powers, but he was still one of the stronger contenders in the series at that point. To say Dio 'didn't get a stat bump' is ridiculous, Post-stand Dio could annihilate pre-stand Dio in less than 1 second.
I noticed something during the initial clash of blades. Tanjiro managed to knock Johnathan’s sword aside, and could have easily landed a fatal blow, yet he chose to defend himself instead. Most likely because he didn’t want to kill Johnathan if he didn’t have to. However, because this is Death Battle, someone had to die.
A single stab or cut wouldn't be a "fatal blow" against a tank like Jonathan. He knew he had to strike a well-aimed vital blow to decide it. Going for an easy opening like that could've gotten himself killed.
Not only do they both have techniques involving breathing, they both lived around the same period in the 19th century and are contemporaries of each other.
Tanjiro lived in the early 20th century, the Taisho period lasted from 1912 to 1926.

Honestly, the ending was just beautiful and sad. I hope future battles can have this kind of story in them.
Absolutely!
Beautiful? Man's basically murdered a kid and stole his sister
no
Superman vs Goku part 2 did this!
I agree. A ending like this is gives a perspective of what would happen after the fight and how it would affect others. I teared up feeling sad upon the finish. A honorable duel from a misunderstanding lead to a tragic end. Seeing the victor wanting to amend for their wrongful action by taking the choice to protect those close to the fallen with their life in their place is a rarity here. Truly should be used as it shows there is more than just a battle to be won but a meaning behind that battle.
I thought Jonathan or DIO's analysis would start off with how their fathers met. DIO's father, Dario Brando, was looting a crashed carriage of Jonathan's father, George Joestar, believing everyone in it died. However, George revealed he survived and so did his infant son, the same couldn't be said for his wife though. George, believing Dario saved his life, swore to pay him back one day. Eventually, Dario would have his son, Dio, take advantage of the Joestar family's debt to him and had Dio live with them.
This fight is so raw and emotional at the same time. Easily one of the best death battles yet, if not the best in my opinion
Tanjiro really should have opened with that "She's my sister" line.
But there would be no fight to the death.
Yes but Tanjiro is never one to place one’s burdens on another. Truly a gentleman
He also wouldn't use his skills on another human.
@@BNuts same to jonhathan. but this is deathbattle
@Andrew Larter I mean, neither of them would lol, Tanjiro would just be like "Uh... To which Jonathan would just be like "Oh, I see, would you like to join forces to free her from this curse?"
No sister line needed
I swear this is the first Death Battle where the victor genuinely felt guilty over murdering their opponent. Very in-character for Jonathan due to how much of a gentleman he is.

So Joseph is fighting Muzan next year right.
joseph wins easily
Hermit purple + hamon = ez win
He'd better! If only to repent for his misunderstanding.
This really makes me think how dangerous Jonathan would be against the demon slayer demons. The whole touch of death thing is nasty.
He's would be a powerhouse strong enough to fight off any demon, even Muzan. Plus, Hamon is just absurb with what it can do, like superhuman strength, speed, and abilities. It can even also travel through objects like swords, meaning that Jonathan can make any sword he wields into a Demon Slaying sword, maybe even more potent than what the Demonslayers have.
@akakakakakakakakakakakakakak47 Yes and Jonathan scales to Dio. Remember, Dio he's facing is prime body Dio, when DIO in Part 3, who can't properly use his body because it's Jonathan's, was able to easily match his own Stand's attack rush, and those reach light speed Plus, his entire body literally runs on Hamon. Touching him would be like a demon letting their hand sun bathe. Jonathan also has enhanced healing, can harden his body, and output punches that can melt a legendary hero turned vampire into mush.
@akakakakakakakakakakakakakak47 Yes while the Joestar blood does boost him significantly, he's still not in his full physical form, mainly because his body is still saturated by the Hamon Jonathan has on his body. If DIO were on his full physical form, he could've used his other vampiric abilities, like his liquid eye laser or his freezing ability. Hell, even after his high, at the final battle against Jojo, DIO's healing factor wasn't as strong as it was in Phantom Blood. It mainly his boost to his stand. Also, with the reaction time, that's mainly the stands themselves rather than the stand users. In the OVA, DIO, without his stand, was able to stand rush against Star Platinum on stopped time when it was an oil tanker instead of a road roller. Plus, we could also base some feats from Joseph to Jonathan(Jonathan is known to be the physically best out of all the Joestars, not that it helps him with stands around), who is able to match the Pillar men(though, with a bit of trickery, but nonetheless is able to keep up) who are fast enough to dodge explosions and parry machine bullets, they are also stronger physically than the likes of Dio. Hell, even if you look at his own fights, he has reacted to DIO's eye rays, that are hypersonic and reaches mach 3, even his attack speed is fast enough to create after images, just like Dio/DIO.
@akakakakakakakakakakakakakak47 Yes bro Jojo is Stronger than tanjiro, faster than tangerine, and wiped the ass of someone that could stop time, Jojo is just better.
He can keep up with persons faster than light bro, tanjiro can't keep up with lightning correctly, and saying joestar vlood boosts someone you're just making joestar stronge boy.
But i will not lose my time talking to a tangerine fan-boy

The only thing this battle is missing is Speedwagon narrating and commentating on everything
So true
Redundantly commentating, too.
"He's seen through his breathing technique!"
Yes, thank you, Speedwagon.
oh having jojo's older version constantly creaming "oh my god" lol
Your actually right!

Dio in part 3 is physically stonger while havw Johnathans body

It would’ve truly been jojo if Jonathan had a monologue explaining how he’s about to win as he used hamon to move his lungs 2 inches to the side

I'm close to fricking crying after seeing that, they're both so kind and yet it was a death battle, and I know it's death battle, but I can't help but frickin cry
Its hard to find a death battle between 2 characters you know
this one takes the cake for me!
Jojo moving his lungs to dodge a sword sounds like a move from JJBA, I'm surprised Araki haven't thought about it yet
He would do it if there will ever be someone trying to stab jonathan, alot crazier shits happened in the series
The closest we've gotten is Jotaro stopping his own heart
Bruno did completely unzip himself to avoid a fish hook, and we also have Jolyne turning her abdomen into a Mobius strip to avoid being turned inside out. JoJo is wild
Didn't Dio do a similar feat? Sounds like something he'd do. I feel like other characters have as well, but it's been so long since I've watched, so idk.

They would likely try to kill each other seriously Muzan literally has the personality and anger issues of a spoiled child and combined with DIO’s arrogance as well
this might be the most perfect battle i have ever seen. IM NOT CRYING EITHER
I know, there needs to be a reason for a death battle, and this one was REALLY cool! But... I don't think I have ever seen Jonathan THIS mad hungry for blood.. the battle was really cool as always!
I suddenly have an urge to wish for a continuation of Jonathan's redemption and his quest to protect Nezuko after his failure as a gentleman.
That is called good writing for a character my friend
I want someone to make a comic, or an animation continuing this! Hell, what would happen if Muzan found out? Or Inosuke and Zenitsu?
@@deucesommerfeld1248 Muzan would see Jonathan as a threat and definitely try to take Jonathan out. It's a plot point in the manga that Demon Slayers need their Nichiren swords (which are made of sunlight-filled metal) to kill demons. Unlike Hamon users like Jonathan, the Demon Slayers actually can't kill demons with their own bare hands since their Breathing Styles only increase their physical stats, so Jonathan would be a major threat just for that. Therefore, part of Jonathan's "redemption" could be teaching the Hashira, Inosuke and Zenitsu how to properly use Hamon to wield against the demons as part of his way to make up for killing their friend.
@@deucesommerfeld1248 not to mention a possible Muzan Vs Dio fight or them teaming up... oh god
Sadly my guess is Nezuko would ultimately lose control after seeing Tajiro killed, forcing Jojo to stop her.

I'm just sitting here like tanjiro is comparable to the progenitor of sun breathing who is pretty busted. Him being freed up is kinda dumb
I've seen a guy win a fight using only his breath. Knocked the other guy out from the smell. As well as the next guy that got too close.
truly, this battle was "breathtaking"
Watching this again, I'd actually love to see how a Nichirin blade reacts to being pumped full of Hamon.
Meanwhile Inosuke and Zenitsu
Inosuke: so... where's Kamaboko he should have been here ages ago i hope nothing bad happend to him
Zenitsu: we are talking about Tanjiro he's fine

The most replayed moment isn't even the start of the fight... it's the climax! That's how you know the fight is good.
The voice acting in the fight is absurdly good. Easily my favorite episode.
A bit of a spoiler.
I really think they didn't talk about Jonathan's durability. In his fight against Dio's head, he got punctured in the neck so he could not use the hamon and was loosing air fast, got beaten up, shielded his wife from an explosion and managed to take Dio with his to the bottom of the ocean. The boy simply refused to die, until Dio got scared and started bargaining and then he died to troll him.
Did you forget the Jojo "will to live" ? That fricking saved every single Jojo
I think they avoided durability and to an extent strength because they knew how much much of a stomp it would have been. (For the strength part I'm referring to Johnathan comparing to dio part 3 that they hinted at.)
That's endurance
@@j_bl7974 every jojo? you sure about that? lol
Tanjiro got beaten up like little kids should be
I'll give Tanjiro the credit he deserves. He had the right idea to go for Jonathan's lungs. Against anyone else, that would've been a guaranteed win. But the original JoJo was able to manipulate his own organs just enough to avoid a fatal puncture and survive, keeping his Hamon intact.
like the great Tank Fish Said "You cannot out-shank a Bri'ish"
Ah yes, because as we all know, the only way to kill a hamon user is by stabbing their lungs. Not decapitating them, not immolation, not shooting them in the stomach, stabbing their lungs is the only way.

As a JoJo fan I surprisingly expected Tanjiro to win, but despite the most JoJo fight ending ever, I did enjoy how Jonathan being a true gentleman decided to take on the task to help Nezuko, but it does seem like in the last second Nezuko didn't appreciate Jonathan killing her brother
yours is the first comment i read that brought about nezuko's disapproval. most are about bittersweet endings and johnathan being a gentleman.
At least, Jonathan kept his word to make sure she's okay
Honestly I think that even if Nezuko tried to kill him, Jonathan would have understood and tried to find a caretaker for her. Maybe someone like Erina, I could totally see a fanfic where Nezuko becomes part of the joestar family slowly becoming closer to each jojo as they age while she remains the same age.
I'm surprised too, but then I though *why not throw Jonathan a W, since he'll lose to Dio anyways*
Well i'm pretty sure jonathan goes to demon slayer corp and wants to be part of the Corp and ask and beg all the hashiras to train him and learn all of their Breathing style so he can kill muzan and dio,and make nezuko safe and turn her back into a human, despite killing a Demon Slayer.
This was the most emotional death battle ever good job guys good job 😭😭😭😭
Small correction: At 14:38 Tanjiro uses the opening thread but it can only be seen on the opponents first attack, thus why it's called the opening thread
The crazy thing about JJBA is that it started as an sort of parody of some of the over-the-top shonen of the time like Hokuto no Ken (Jonathan even looks a bit like Kenshiro). So he’s almost comedy levels of strong.
Lol it didn't parody anything.
