im honestly surprised to see someone getting rid of a truck like this after A. 3 and half years... and B. with such low mileage.. hopefully she serves the RL transport team for much longer then then both of those metrics!
That 450 engine is a lot stronger than one might think just looking at it on paper. Even with almost 70 tonnes total weight it still pulls ok and fuel economy is excellent.
I just got the 2023 Scania 460p and it does 1200 rpm at 100 kph with the new OD gear box and it gets around 3.7 kpl. On the hiway and it’s rated to 46 ton gross, here in Australia . Our company trucks don’t have the power mode though. Which I think is a shame because some time you just need it .
Come down to New Zealand and have a play round with our gear. I drive a fm540 6x4 single clutch pulling a bdouble 50ish ton getting 44.4l/100km revs 1450 at 90km currently got 1million km and still going strong I know a truck with 2.5mill still doing line haul got its second engine at 2mill as a preventative thing
I think its tad harsh to be comparing a fleet spec 450 to your 580 tbh. Maybe go back to your FM 460 video and have a bit of a comparison with that. Ive driven both and Dafs, but prefer the Scania generally although the volvo is more comfortable. DAF is, well a DAF 😂 even though ours are a 480 the volvo and scanias a far more eager on the hills, even our 430 mercs are better 😂 New trucks i imagine means your getting more work, good to see you guys doing well 💪🏼
Yeah Theres a lot of Hate for Merc's out there But they are Tough. More for Old farts like Me I like My trucks holding hills, I drove some SCANIAs actually a lot of them since 143 6 cylinder and v8s to the Brand new ones on CNG. They are kind of Racer-ish other than the Newest gen. We had some Bad drivers and The 113 143 and 124 Got Overheated a few times. They Came from Volvo's and Merc's and Thought its the same just Press the pedal and it will go. 🤣 One Guy on the 143 V8 came with completely greasy Windsheield I LMAO. The others were Like what happened to you, where have you been? And I was Like: He cooked it probably Downhill using the retarder. The Filling cap for the coolant is at the base of the Windshield 😂 I Like the Merc's are slower to accelerate, but also hold Hills like No other. And they just never brake. On flats sure, yeah, But On Hills nah m8, Merc's and Volvo's.
Great video again Stavros, your not doing continental runs so you don't need the horsepower for the work you do, which is mainly multidrop & collections so the Scania should be ok being 450 hp. Look forward to the next video.
The company I work for have 4 R450 2018 6x2. I found there was a noticeable difference between my one and another's exhaust brake. Mines was much better. Also found it would jump 12th back to 11th randomly when sitting at 90kph on cruise control. Was really annoying.
I actually get slightly better miles per gallon off of eco mode. I find when it high shifts and labors the engine it uses more fuel than actually going through each gear for say 300 rpm. Way more efficient hitting every gear than skipping...
Great video there mate. Thank you for sharing your content. Stavros. Glad to see you buying more Scania trucks to your fleet that you like to do in general. Cheers from William. Mount Gambier, South Australia.
Perhaps the previous owner was hammering it to meet deadlines, or there's some wear on the transmission causing more fuel burn? *EDIT* Does it have an overdrive gear or is 1.00 the top ratio? I wonder if you would get a better figure if you zeroed the average and tested it for a few hundred KM with careful driving.
The S has a taller cab with more headroom and is higher up, so it's a little more comfortable and costs a bit more. But it shares the same engines and gearboxes as the R.
Hmm, since I worked for a Company Transporting CNG we only had The CNG powered ones. All the Trucks were CNG IVECO and Mercedes Econic too. Only One Mk3 Actros. That said Our SCANIAs were New, and I never drove one with more than 150 000Km on it. But that is some IVECO Dash wear. To be honest, SCANIA CNG engines are much more quiet, and the New gen is strong unlike Limp Older gens where you had to rev all the way up to 2000 RPM and above to get some power. All the time. CNG weight barely changes Full/empty because most of it is the Tanks. So A Full Tractor will be 40t and an Empty will be 32t New Engines Work like Diesels they are just way softer. And less practical toque. We also Had an Older CNG SCANIA R and the Cap, other than the seat that brakes all the time and ECU, Its in almost factory condition. TBH I was impressed How SCANIA can Make a Comparable truck to Mercedes or even Volvo when it comes to ride quality, finally. But now When I saw the wear I am a bit, actually a lot, disappointed. Still think it's the best Series they have ever made. They stopped making trucks for Boy racers and made a Mature well designed truck. I wish you all the luck with it m8. It's a good truck. The only thing I REALLY hated is the door mounted controls. In The CNG company we had a lot of Platforms and the Tractors were decoupled all the Time. Basically Swapping Empty for Full, and in the rain it would be constantly soaked. It's just a bad Idea for such Companies. For long hauls ,yeah doesn't matter much. Other than Bendy cables in the drivers door, but you know... :)
The only reason you're getting this kind of fuel mileage, is because you're dragging your butt around Europe,Stavros. 😁In the States we do 100-110 km/h at regular basis,so we get 8-9 mpg or worse 😁
So what was the logic/thinking when it came to buying the 450, especially knowing and criticising the "poor" mpg? "Pulls to the left" - hmmmm, maybe tracking, cheaper than two new tyres lol.
Hi Stavros matey 👍 it's mark from Wirral Merseyside 👍 i enjoy your RUclips video with the new Scania you have got for the fleet and it looks good to me even though it's only a 480 keep up the great work and keep your RUclips videos coming out thanks from mark from Wirral Merseyside 👍
Happy runnings, Stavros. Cheeeeeeeeeers!!

That’s nice review, I am not a scania fan though. I am originally Volvo but currently glued to Renault
👍 great video as always, thank you Stavros
Looks great mate 👍

Can you check the fuel economy of RLT's Mercedes actros?? Hopefully it can read in litres and kilometres too. Brilliant viewing Stavros.

I honestly thought you would actually try a new truck, a new daf or new truck iveco, especially with the problems your wagon has given you
I hope stavros would have Scania 770 in future
When are u going to bring the Actros and Volvo to ur fleet?
Is the exhaust brake powerful at downhill ?
Great video stavros, did yee ever have the old Renault magnums.
He has a video driving an orange colour magnum with a manual gearbox from a company called Kelcro. An awesome beast of a truck!
Everything wears out by time
Perhaps the previous owner was hammering it to meet deadlines, or there's some wear on the transmission causing more fuel burn?
*EDIT* Does it have an overdrive gear or is 1.00 the top ratio? I wonder if you would get a better figure if you zeroed the average and tested it for a few hundred KM with careful driving.
Well, less powerfull engine need to rev a bit higher, Stavros. 😅
I think it's okay for a 450 to rev at 1100 at 80k.
the R490 i drive sits at 1250rpm at 80. and it needs every bit of it loaded to 50t
From Namibia
Theres no replacement for displacement V8

Bring back black smoke
Nice truck watt year is it ?
2020
Top bloke you are stavros. Are you going to do a video on the differences between a R and a S series scania as I don't fully understand. Thanks
The S has a taller cab with more headroom and is higher up, so it's a little more comfortable and costs a bit more. But it shares the same engines and gearboxes as the R.
@@David_Crayford thanks for that bud
that is indeed a very low specification. doesn't matter, does the same job

"Pulls to the left" - hmmmm, maybe tracking, cheaper than two new tyres lol.
Maybe Stavros and Rory Lynch should go with Volvo's instead?
Scania is the best truck!
I'm gonna guess, another SCANIA V8
"We can see it's revving quite high"
Literally just 100rpm higher
On an engine with a 2500-3000rpm redline, 100rpm is quite the margin ;)
Stavros just switch to a volvo turbo compound.
Sad to see Scania quality dropping but is it because of who has the controlling share in the company now ?is it really scania now.
I wish I can get one Scania please help me Boss please 🙏
Wow this has not been looked after at all by the previous owners. This scania must of been cheap as chips considering its such a poor spec
I thought it was going to be a MAN.
Or another Renault.
