    I wish I'd found you before we bought our 2024 ID.4 Pro S. I love the car. However, the abbreviated manual sucks... Heck, even the $50 full manual sucks because it does not cover any upgrades to the 2024 version. I'm going to take my tablet out to the car so I can watch and do. Thank you so much for doing these videos.

    I own a 2022 VW ID4 pro s AWD. I. love my car. It is a very quiet car, and very roomy. An adult can actually sit in the rear of the car and feel comfortable. I have not had issues with the software. My car is at the dealers right now getting a software update, I'm guessing 3.5 as I have had the 3.1 software. The door handle is getting repaired. I love the car. I do not miss going to the gas station to fill my car with fuel and do not to miss the smell of petrol. The biggest reason for going with VW and not a Tesla is the ability to get in and out of the car easily. As an older adult, cars that are low to the ground are not very elderly friendly. VW ID4 is. Cars are cars and not one car is perfect. I have been stranded with a new BMW X3 that just stopped in the middle of traffic! Had issues with a Subaru Outback. So VW is not any different. Love your analysis on the software. Thank you.

    Thanks for this info, I appreciate that you talk the truth about VW. Good to hear that software 4.0 will be coming to 2023 and older cars as most of us owners don't have much faith left in them following through. I'm disappointed to learn that 3.5 is still not obtainable by OTA nor does it have plug and charge. Two things that were promised to owners three years ago.

    5:02 Hi Bob, our ID4 (2021 ProS) was upgraded at the dealer to 3.1. It just did the OTA to 3.2. I must say the car has had its share of problems. During the first month of ownership, we had a motor failure and the car spent 4 weeks at the dealership waiting to be fixed. The navigation system’s charging station recommendations were terrible, it sent us to stations that were not opened and frequently recommended level 2 stations instead of DC fast charging stations and didn’t seem to find Electrify America stations. I am hoping some of the navigation issues have been fixed

    Thanks for the honest opinions about VW software. I bought my ID.4 about a week ago and I have the User Profile (Primary User) problem. My car never is able to connect to Car-Net. Car-Net CS is now saying they are aware of this common problem and that a software update is pending with a fix. I don’t know what to think about that promise. How long will it take, if ever.
    Will 2023 owners be getting the much improved version 4.0? If so, maybe the fix for the user profile problem will be included.

    Will the 2023 ID 4 get 4.0 software or is there an issue with it needing different hardware?

    Hi electric principal. I have an ID4 23 and have issues with OTA. I have received multiple OTA notifications in my id4. I have started the installation process but it never completes. Even brought my car to the dealer. They tried to instal 3.5 update, but they even weren't able to do so. Mentioning that the id4 went through al the steps for installation, but didn't successfully finish the installation. Any thoughts or tips how to fix it? Or manually start the OTA update?

    Hope you see this. Over 20,000 miles driving and a few times getting close to zero miles and even once driving 11 miles after zero miles range left. However, a few nights ago I was on the way to a charger and had 6% and 12 miles range. I made a stop and during that hour stop the ambient dropped to 40 degrees and it got dark. It was still showing 6% and 12 miles but it immediately went to creep mode. I know you don’t like the L1 charger but I was able to find a 110 outlet and charge enough to get home. I didn’t know what the minimum was to get get home so I charged for 4 hours out of fear. I took it to my dealer and all I got was there are no faults showing and nobody can say what I should be able to expect. Do you have any answers? Thanks.

    Hi Bob, thanks! I have software 3.1, I don’t have any issues. It doesn’t sound like it is worth upgrading to 3.5? I saw one reviewer say they lost the IQ lights with a 3.5 upgrade, can that be true?

    Getting my first upgrade finally. Scheduled for this Thursday. Will I be getting the latest? I purchased in 2021.
    What sucks is that VW kept calling me to bring my car in for recall for 18 mos and when I call the dealership to schedule they kept saying parts is out of stock. Long story short I finally was able to schedule and they said they have the parts now and that the upgrade on the issue with the battery will upgrade my software. Thanks for the video!

      You are getting 3.5. They are getting to another update before the release of 4.0 as well. Good to see VW finally putting more updates in the pipeline. It is a good car and deserves better software. Your shop is correct. Actually, the old software caused some of the battery issues in a number of cars and that is why they are checking batteries and replacing cells. Enjoy the new update...way better than the old software. What version of the software do you currently have? You can check the software version on the second panel of the main screen.

    Software upgrade to3.1 disabled my hands free lift gate and my dealership in California has not been able to fix it. Do you know of a solution?

      Hello Annie. We have upgraded over forty cars and have not had this issue. Make sure they look to see if this is not just a coincidence and the issue is with the lift gate hardware.

      @@electricprincipal543 may I ask your advice on another issue? I have an FE with 54K since 2021. Today is the 3rd time I received a message that “The electrical system is not working correctly. Please service vehicle.” Twice it has been a bad battery module and I suspect now it could be a 3rd time. I am losing confidence in my car and fear what the cost of repair will be once the warranty is over. Do you have any recommendations on what I may be able to do? Thank you.

    My 2017 e-Golf charge setting is very similar to current ID.4 software except there is a button on charge port to choose immediate charging or delayed charging. funny VW had it right so many years ago and then messed it up.

    So is there no over the air updates like Tesla? Is the only way to upgrade to the new software is by taking the car to Volkswagon and letting them do it? Im new to VW, i come from the Tesla world.

    • @electricprincipal543
      @electricprincipal543  8 месяцев назад

      Even VW’s non-electric cars receive over the air updates. However, the old staff in the software department was not on the ball, and created a large enough update that it could not be done over the air despite repeated promises that’s how it would happen. Tesla, Ford, Rivian, and almost everyone else. Does updates over the air What VW does well is build a smooth driving quiet car that handles well and feels solid as a tank. As I say, in all of my videos, VW needs up its game in the software department.

      Yes, my VW Golf 8 from 2020 receives over the air updates for the infotainment system, some small updates, some large ones that do a firmware update.... For example the last one made the navigation map much faster... Zooming and stuff. The Golf software looks exactly like the ID4 software, but without the EV part. I presume some early manager in Germany decided to get the infotainment system with Linux and not android, and with slow CPU and low memory. Saved a few bucks... Caused a lot of issues.
      However they have tuned it as much as possible, and it is now pretty good, after the newest OTA update.

    What’s the difference between v3.1 and v3.5? Will 2021-23 support v4.0?

    • @electricprincipal543
      @electricprincipal543  8 месяцев назад

      3.5 simply fixes a number of bugs in the previous software and also make sure the car does not give us false error notices. It is also the quickest update I’ve seen VW release in a long time. I’m hoping this is a harbinger of good things to come.

    • @electricprincipal543
      @electricprincipal543  8 месяцев назад

      I believe that we will be updating cars to 4.0 when it is released. I am hoping that VW has their act together and can give this update to owners over the air. VW is about ready to drop the ID.7 in a few months, and the Buzz will be coming the following year. Of course, we will have waited three years for it to arrive on our shores I love driving VW’s, but I don’t love the fact that they seem to treat VW of America like a poor step child. The best thing they’ve done for the American market is let us keep our standard transmissions, and GTI’s, while they remove them from all the European vehicles. That was such a great thing to do!

      @@electricprincipal543 it would be great if the 4.0 can be rolled out all they to 2021 models. It would be even greater if some of new features on newer models could be retrofitted.

    I just upgraded my 2021. This video does NOT address the drastic changes I's seeing. User profiles? Totally new display behind the wheel, can't scan QR code in app, ... No software release notes. Too many issues to list not addressed by this video

    I didn't buy ID.4 for the software either. But it isn't as if I can just not use it, especially the annoying and ongoing mess over user profiles. These have never worked for me (and many others), and so you're constantly resetting/redoing settings that disappear at random, or being alerted to "new settings are available for your account," which if chosen not only fail to provide any "new settings," but reset your old settings. Massage seat will start randomly every 3-4 drives, and settings for climate, drive mode, etc. may or may not "stick." Why on earth not tie personal settings to the fob rather than making an otherwise excellent car function like a dysfunctional app? Why have an app that alerts you to unlocked doors, but has no ability to lock them (despite the car having those fancy "electric" handles that I have to manually open for most people who ride in the car with me since they can't figure them out). You can't just opt out of much of the VW "software experience," and it really taints an otherwise excellent vehicle I've enjoyed owning.

    • @electricprincipal543
      @electricprincipal543  9 месяцев назад +1

      And the worse part is the fob technology is one they have used before. There is a new sheriff in town. They hired a former Rivian/Tesla software manager to take oversee all of VW's brand.

    • @colincroft2704
      @colincroft2704 9 месяцев назад

      Well hopefully that will help improve the software situation for both current and future owners. With something like user profiles not working, you're reminded of the glitch every time you start up the car and VW's reputation takes a ding each time unfortunately...

  • @rich3318

    Other EV chargers does not help if I only want to e.g. Ionity because I am a member and do not want to download another "charging app". Using plugshare does not give an overall experience I need in my car. VW treats owners as children and we are lucky we purchased their car. Pay cash for car gives ZERO service and not something as simple as a first checkup. Too bad for VW loosing another customer. This is not directed at Electric Principal. You do a great job.
