I have successfully set up some memory parking features for our ID.4. It took some repetition, but I finally got a parking location saved. I have been backing into our driveway and garage for a VERY long time (20+ years) and since the ID.4 will be using the spot my car used to occupy, I wanted my husband to have an easier time getting it lined up to get into the garage (tricky driveway).
Basically, the car records the location and steering when below 40mi/hour and the last 50 m (164 ft). When you have reached the final location of your parking procedure (and, if I remember right, press park), it will ask if you want to save the parking spot. Alternatively (more complex) once parked, if you open the parking assist menu, you should be able to select the save a parking memory feature and hit the "+" button to add a spot.
It is certainly not an easy process, but it does work nicely. As always keep on eye on it. We've had to take control a few times when it started going somewhere we did not want it to.

Ok, I picked up my 2021 ID.4 this morning and had a chance to go through everything. Most notably, the infotainment system is not laggy at all, is totally responsive and the apple CarPlay works really well now. There’s more info in the screen above the steering wheel, the brake auto-hold works great and there’s a few more random features within the infotainment system like fast charging routing improvement (which I won’t use much as I have a home charger). My car did not have any main battery cell issues, but they did install the software for the 12v battery issue and replaced the 12v battery. All-in-all, from what I can tell so far, the 3.1 is a HUGE improvement over the old software.

Thanks for this video, it was quite informative. To me it looks functional but still sort of 2010-era UI design. My main concern though is how slow it looks, and how often it seems unresponsive to your input. Given this is the primary (if only) way to interact with the vehicle, I wish VW would spend a little more on better hardware.

I just got the update for my ID.4 First Edition yesterday. I really appreciate the information/overview. Unfortunately, for me the update introduced a lot of screen lag that wasn't there before. I wasn't prepared for all the changes to the interface -esp. swiping the screen to move between songs in a playlist. Another one is that if you have a lot of songs in a playlist and you're scrolling through them while driving the system bumps you out and tells you to pay more attention to the road! I also now get an orange bar of light centered in the ID.4 light. I don't know why it pops up (kind of like the red warning light if you weren't braking quickly enough?) Anyway -I'd love an in-depth look at the music system. I play almost exclusively from USB sticks, and the navigation has changed. Thanks!!

    • @theaverageev

Thanks for watching! That is unfortunate that it is so laggy on the 21! The orange bar means to pay attention. A safety feature when you are in using the infotainment for too long while driving! I can certainly look into the music. Additionally, I have a road-trip video where I review the navigation! You should give that a look! It’s better than before! Still just ok though, not amazing unfortunately!

Crazy to me that even on 3.x the ID bar still can't talk to Android Auto or Apple Car play. The car's display can show the upcoming turns on the small binnacle display at the steering wheel but not "talk" to the light bar, which is one of the cooler features of the interior and the navigation. Such a shame. If the in-car nav was better, it wouldn't be a problem, but it's definitely NOT good and using CarPlay or Android auto is what I would recommend to anyone...
