Another tip for you. Whenever I wash my car I must set the windscreen wipers in service mode (straight up) to clean the window thoroughly. There is a feature in the infotainment system... but there is a shortcut! Sit into the car but DON'T press the break pedal. Press the wiper's stick up once and they go into service mode.
I have had my 2021 ID.4 1st for 6 months and 6000 miles and this was very useful. My only contribution to your endeavor may be to turn off WiFi scanning if you experience gaps when streaming audio with CarPlay.
Tip #1 came in handy twice at the EA charging station when the charger asked me to disconnect the cable due to a payment problem but the car wouldn't let go of the cable. Thank you!
Thanks for the tips; beneficial information to know. We just picked up an id4 days ago, and these tips will come in handy as we familiarize ourselves with the car.
I have ordered my Id4 and have been told i will get it the end of March 🙏. I have ordered the 52kw version as I don’t do many miles and the cost is $41000
Thanks for the tips. I personally feel that VW (I have a 1st) rushed this car to market as the infotainment system and Car-Net app is a miserable experience and failure. On top of the lack of a intuitive UI design, I have had issues including windows suddenly rolling down, sound system going into tin ear mode as well as the hatch randomly opening (on occasion). Tips on how to turn the ID4 on and place it in neutral for drive through car wash centers would be helpful. I managed to pull it off a few times without having to sit inside through the wash and spin cycle.
@@evhelphub sure, I closed the hatch, walked away, looked back and saw it opening up. Recently, all windows rolled down at the same time while exiting the VW. The system was unresponsive and in some semi crashed state so I had to sit and stand a couple times before the system reset back to normal.
Thanks for your videos and tips. I picked up our ID 4 from VW in Wolfsburg last Tuesday. First thing I did was delete that small navigation screen. :) The ACC system is brilliant. So far everything is functioning as should. Overall, the car and the driving experience have far exceeded my expectations. The 3.0 software update should make it even better.
Austin RUclipsr squad 👋🏼 this video was super helpful! Looking into getting an ID.4 rn…hardest thing is finding one available rn. Curious how you ended up finding yours.
We actually missed out on the first edition originally. However, we put in an order and called a dealer. A few weeks later another shopper decided to go with something else and the dealer called us and told us it was ours if we could come get it that day, so we did. They didn't try to jerk us around with the MSRP or anything like that either.
Thank you! I will be broadening the channel quite a bit next year but of course I will still post videos of the ID4 and EV ownership in general. Which ID4 did you get?
I have had a 2022 ID5 for a year now, the only issues I have had is voice control it seems to like my wife’s voice as soon as she gets in the car it’s asking what she wants, I find this a dangerous president. So I have turned it off and can now only be switched on via the control button. I have found no other issues with the software I have never had to reset it, and have had one over the air update. But it takes time to learn, thank goodness for RUclips, if your prepared to put yourself out to learn you will be fine. It’s the same as when you first got a smartphone, don’t blame the phone if you can’t operate it. Same with EVs. Happy Motoring, I for one would never go back to a ICE car.
New subscriber (and EV shopper). Sounds to me like some of these 'tips' are in fact ways of dealing with ID.4 problems. Viewed your '9 Things' video on what you liked. Maybe counterintuitive, but I'd suggest you do a companion video on those performance/feature problems t0help shoppers avoid future disappointment and better understand what they are buying. So far, all your videos have been highly informative - thank you!
Thank you for watching and subscribing! I completely agree. My second video on here was a "things I hate" video, which, to be honest, was pretty terribly produced with a lot of rambling. But I agree with you, I will make one that's a little more to the point and share with everyone. it is important to know the drawbacks of every car.
After 11,300 miles and seven months I still found your video informational, especially the part about Electrify America. I have always plugged in first before I use the app. Were you suggesting that doing your EA routine will increase the charger's speed? I am in the next big city south of you.
Doing the tip I mentioned will give you a consistent connection allowing you to get the best charging speed possible. Doing it your way can still allow you to get the best charging speed possible, but I found in the first few weeks of ownership that more often than not it caused issues with communication between the charger and the car.
Great Video. Thanks! I have an all wheel drive model on order and I received an email from VW that it’s on a ship making it’s way to the US. Hopefully I’ll have it by the beginning of January. Looking forward to more of your videos.
Great video! What do you know about lighting up the volume control button? When I drive at night, my passengers and I can't see exactly where they are.
Hi and thanks a lot for your tips. I can certainty use many of them even if I live in Iceland. You could mention the feature how to automatically release the plug when the charging is finished (infotainment) and the emergency release in the trunk. Also the washing feature for the rear view camera lens.
thanks for this, mine shipped a couple weeks ago so i definitely appreciate these types of videos. could you tell me how long the L1 charging cable is?
I just measured it, from wall plug to car plug it is approximately 20 feet. My recommendation is to plan to have about 18 feet usable and that will leave you enough room to not have the cable rubbing up against the car and things like that! :)
On the ID.4. you should NEVER use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, because both of them will NOT give you recommendations as to when to charge. Only the integrated system knows and does, when you are planning a route. So the integrated Nav is VERY important.
Hi there, my VW ID4 both screens are shut down, but I still can drive, small screen showing that I am driving and it is on D, thats all! Other parts just black! Can you guys help me what to do? Thank you
I think the only way to completely reset the vehicle is to unplug the 12v outlet and plug it back in. I personally would just take it to the local dealership if you can to make sure it isn't a bad computer.
If you have any additional tricks, please leave them below! WATCH PART 2: ruclips.net/video/MEow4oOsLkw/видео.html Follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/evhelphub
We haven't had to do that a lot to date, but will next spring/summer. I'll make a video then, but I can say that it is similar to other compact SUVs for the most part, nothing special.
Charging during "preferred hours" ? Just forget, folks. Starts much later than planned (if ever), and in the end charges a small fraction (if any) of the possible amount within given time slot and available power. And did they fix that in latest update ? nope, too busy changing colors and icons in the MMI screen….
Is Android auto supposed to completely take over your phone so that it can't be used? I have to park and get out of the car and wait for it to release before doing anything directly on my phone like connect to Electrify America or use any other app.
I had the same trouble with my Chevy Equinox. I dumped Android Auto right out of my phone (but not the Equinox b/c it's a lease.) It's a matter of Bluetooth not letting go, I think.
Center console infotainment system should have been much better , if it is the monitor that come out from the slot goes back when vehicle switch off, like in Audi.. also the size like in tesla with a vedio player fecility..
The scheduled charging feature in the ID.4 is simply not fit for purpose. I've had mine back to the dealer. There was nothing they could do. There's been no software update since I bought it 6 months ago. If I switch on from indoors it only charges at an attenuated 1kWh rate. I have to go outside at night in all weathers to plug it in in the early morning to take advantage of my low night tariff - then I have to set an alarm at 4:30am to switch it off. I'm in the UK and VW did nothing to correct the wrong information about the Prolife model here. Unlike the one in the states there's no reversing camera or automatically dipping headlights or automatically switching on of windscreen wipers or MW radio. It's a disgrace for a £41k vehicle- I'll be getting a Model Y to replace it with.
Being a id4 owner the best tip I can give you is change it to a tesla model y which does everything much better. Unfortunately the Y is not out in England yet, but when it is my VW is toast
The Model Y is a good car, and I'll be doing a review on it soon. There are some pros and cons though. Cost is pretty prohibitive, not to mention wait times right now. It should have better range, the heat pump (here in America the ID4 doesn't), a better software for sure. I think the ID4 is best for those who want something sort of traditional and need to be closer to the $35-40k range.
Yeah, there not even close in price, like $20,000 US dollars difference, and that's not counting the fact that VW still qualifies for a $7500 rebate, add on finance charges and interest on the difference and were talking close to $30,000.
I have ID.4 GTX since November 2021, I think to sell it because infotainment system is so bad, the worst in the market. I drive around 170 km every day from Monday to Friday
Huh… I’m going to have to let my ID4 get down on charge and try that method with my local EA station… so far the most I’ve seen was maybe 70-80kW I think. 🤔🤷♂️
There is a charging curve, but if you start say below 20%, you should consistently get 125kW up until around 40%ish. Of course, make sure you are at a station that provides at least a 125kW charge. Before I did this trick, I was constantly (but not always) getting way less than I shouldve. I see a lot of new ID4 owners at the EA station near me and I tell them all this and it seems to help them!
@@evhelphub yeah, I almost never get too low, and I’ll have to forgo free charging and parking at work at least one day this week to get low enough in the pack for it to matter. 😅 even the super slow 110v charging is usually enough for my day to day, especially when I charge to ~80% at work too…
the only tip should be - don't buy it. I know it looks great, but all specs say "no". I guess that it is unavailability of Model Y RWD maybe which makes people buy it. In Norway for the same price you get 400kg more towingcapacity, no charging queues (terrible), best software, 17cm more in length (the difference in storage is enormous), better range. No brainer.
Hats off to Volkswagen for making the most infuriating car of all time. Takes real skill to achieve that. And they say Germans are efficient, their cars definitely aren’t.
Not so long at all , Tesla says they are opening up Tesla Superchargers to non Tesla's in October or November 2022 in the US as part of a deal reached with the Biden Administration
the technology, battery types and infotainment are outdated throughout the VW concert. the only thing vw can do is make a nice car. but all that you can not see is outdated
I think every company not named Tesla should. They aren't going to be able to compete wasting time on this. I like what Polestar did and love their software. Go with Google or something.
I do wish more of it was injection molded plastic, as I've slammed my knee on the lower dash a few times. But, I get that the battery tech is pretty expensive and they had a price target to meet. It doesn't bug us that much. :)
I am sorry but VW is messed up! It’s not just the ID4 but VW owned Electrify America that’s the worst. I’ve spoken to so many ID owners and no one had a good experience. For me the last nail in coffin was when I got stuck in 110 degree weather trying to charge this thing in Anthem, AZ and it won’t go over 32kw!! Called EA and all I got was a sorry rep. Traded it in same day for a gas car. Again, the car is nice if your driving your daily commute. Road trips are a living hell on this thing. Also, no matter what people say, the infotainment system is a REAL pain in the rear. Stay away from them.

Also… RTFM 😑
the germans aren’t so good with software , just contract it out like mercedes did
I think every company not named Tesla should. They aren't going to be able to compete wasting time on this. I like what Polestar did and love their software. Go with Google or something.
Get rid of that drum in the background.
Electrify America is horrible
Don’t buy this piece of shit I work on these for a living lol recalls for days batteries on back order after software is done
So much plastic on the inside …. :)
I do wish more of it was injection molded plastic, as I've slammed my knee on the lower dash a few times. But, I get that the battery tech is pretty expensive and they had a price target to meet. It doesn't bug us that much. :)
I have a tip don't drive in 0% power lol
Really happy with mine, granted it's the 2023 version
Im receiving my 2023 AWD pro s next week!! Can’t wait
Biggest tip for ID4 owners, as an ex owner, buy a tesla.
Teslas quality is so Bad that is a Big L
Tip #1 : Sell it
No thank you. No EV for me.
