Here in Europe it has long been known that the software in these cars is awful - VW have now already released a complete updated version of the ID3 (which I believe is not sold in the US) This version is basically the car they should have released in the first place - there were so many complaints that they had to listen. As well as a complete overhaul of the interior materials (much higher quality) there has been a complete overhaul of the cars software, which was the thing that had the most complaints.

iD.4 owner here. Zero issues. Sorry to hear about your experience being so shitty. The Qi heating issue is not a VW specific problem-- it is Qi in general. Car dealerships not having loaners is not a VW issue. All car dealerships are cutting back. This is a common 2021 Launch Edition story. Hence why I waited for the 2022 to pull the trigger. I'm glad I did otherwise I'd probably be making the same videos as yourself.

I was very close to getting an ID.4 last year in July, but couldn't find one without massive markup or a 6 month delay. I ended up with a Chevy EUV instead. I'm pleasantly surprised, 1 year later with the car. No real issues besides a gasket that needed glued. Wireless Android Auto is 99.9% reliable, only acting up when my phone's Bluetooth is janked and the phone needs rebooted. Tire pressure is also shown per tire, and seems to update a few times a minute. I'm astonished that Chevy was able to make a great infotainment system, while VW can't.

There are different types of sensors for Tire pressure. One type is using direct sensors in the tires and knows the pressure. The other is indirect using the ABS system, and only knows when there is a change in pressure. The ID4 uses the latter, but that is not something faulty, it's just different from Tesla for example. My old car used this.

    • @typxxilps
      @typxxilps Год назад +4

it all depends on the extras you have ordered cause different control units or set of control units causes a lot of trouble where the dealers had to learn on customer cars what it takes to fix them.
sometimes they had to do it multiple times which means updating each and every control unit, not only a few , every single one.
And if something goes wrong they try over and over again till they learned how to partially update those units where the update had not worked out.
Finally: some cars had different issues and needed 1 or even more new control units which might take longer cause they needed - after several attempts to fix it - the spare part first to start again.
Therefore you find customers that got their car in the evening and other days later which means usually 1 to 10 days.
All was well known if someone checked the german face book groups and other forums.
Each and every fault was well known he had mentioned in the video and really astonishing to see that he even did not know the 12V battery charging issue. Which was totally easy to fix if you know about more how the issue was caused not really by the battery, but bby the energymeter cause the battery is not measured by voltage but by counting what goes into the battery and what goes out. If that drifts away everything goes wrong.
To fix it there is a simple routine: charge the battery fully - connect it in the car - go into the obd dongle software and change the serial number there
Do not think I am fooling you cause we all know that batteries have no serial number or communication lines, right ?!
So: it works this way cause once you put any different serial number in the car sets the columbmeter or energymeter that tracks this battery back to full based on the capacity the battery has so maybe 80 Ah which means 960 Wh.
And then the cars tracks the battery state by measuring what goes out of the battery and what goes in ... but from the right fully charged point that has not drifted away over time
Does any average mechanic know about that?
He should but they do not cause they do not really believe the stuff they are told to do and to learn.
So by replacing the current battery serial with a new one you tell the car the 12v battery is fully charged and then everything is fine cause it then know when to recharge that from the main battery.
Be aware of it and you have a lot less issues easy to fix by yourself or any garage that has at least a medioce mechanic. The roots of these issues are well known and date back to the introduction of start stop automatics where they wanted to make sure not to turn off the car at a red light when the car would not turn on again. That is impossible with 12 V lead acid and measuring only the Voltage, that needed a lot more and hence the energymonitor came in 10 years ago and suddenly caused here in the ID family new issues.

need to simplify the entire EV design... get rid of all the gadgetry... too many computers running everything that are connected to the internet are nothing but problems waiting to happen. the drive train should be designed with a standalone electronic system, each being modular and each with its own diagnostics messaging. All other systems should be physically separate too... navigation should be its own module (remember tom tom), interior control (Air conditioning, seats, mirror controls should not be connected to anything other than the mechanical system they control. The next day, the radio started turning itself up and when I tried to turn it down, it turned itself back up again; the seat warmer turned itself on; the auto stop got stuck; the intermittent wipers won't work; the electric plug in has locked up on me three times, the screen has just gone blank as in the video. It has been a nightmare and I want to take it back as I'm actually afraid to drive it now.

Very clickbaitey title and thumbnail, you act like the main reason you sold the car was because it “sucked” but a big reason of it is because you’re moving to Thailand. Which you didn’t mention until half way through the video, that feels disingenuous to me.
A lot of this video seems like an overreaction too. The Android Auto rant that takes up too much time than it should. Android Auto sucks, I’ve had connection issues with multiple cars and phones. You having what looks like an old Google Pixel doesn’t help either, those are known for having glitchy and faulty hardware and software. Your phone overheating is not going to be ONLY the cars fault. Every car I’ve used with CarPlay works as it should while I’ve had so many issues with Android Auto. It’s not really a safety issue either, you shouldn’t be trying to fix Android Auto while driving you should pull over always.
You spend so much time complaining about small issues like the Android Auto and dont really talk about the actual issues like the 12v issues causing the car to brick. The 12v issues were also to be addressed in the recall update to 2021 models you had right before you sold it so they should not happen anymore.
I appreciate you saying the 2022 and 2023s are better, because they are. I have one and I love love love it. No issues at all and it’s comfortable with great range charging and price.
Not saying these issues are ok but if you’re buying a brand new year one car model with a completely new powertrain there’s most likely to be issues. Even a year one car from a company that’s known for being reliable like Toyota can have major issues. You should avoid first year cars if you don’t want issues. 2022 and 2023 ID.4s do not have many issues.

Have to submit the car to VW every time and it takes a week (!) for VW to install the new software. Unbelievable... The ID4 software is terrible, laggy and not user friendly. For example: It often needs to "load" the ventilation settings (!). Also have a Tesla Model 3 and everything just works and with lightning fast interface. Tesla sends out several OTA updates a month and just one click on your phone and it instantly installs by itself.

As for the tire pressure issue. I have a PoleStar 2 (love it). Anyway, I was driving one day and ran over something that caused my tire to rapidly deflate and fail. I brought it in to a tire center to get a replacement. When discussing the tire I asked about the tire pressure monitor. They explained that are 2 methods. One to to measure tire pressure. Its more expensive than method 2. Method 2 is to count rotations and use it to determine if you are going faster or slower than you would if the tire was at optimal pressure. These systems will tell you to wait until the tires are warm before reporting. The ID4 may use method 2 and as a result the system doesn't know which tire has too low/high pressure.

Alex, it's not just the ID4, as you probably know. I have the ID3 P-Pro that isn't a 1st edition, but was built soon afterwards and, although it is a very much more sprightly car than your ID4, it has similar software faults, although you've had a particularly poor one, I think. Everything you've mentioned, bar the entire breakdowns, I've had. Voice Commands totally suck still. OTA updates don't happen. The last one I had was when there was a 12V battery recall. I had V2.3 then, and guess what? I still have V2.3 because the service dealer feared he might brick the car. Oh, and both headlights fogged up [condensation inside - seals gone]. So what did they do? They said to leave it for a while. And of course the warmer weather came along and the issue went away, as I knew it would when he suggested it [I ain't stupid buddy, or maybe I am for having this car]. Of course the problem is still there, just waiting for next winter. But the lease is up at the end of March 2024. That said, my ID3 P-Pro is a nice, comfy, very nippy [OK not Tesla nippy] good car. But it's spoiled every trip when I have to interact with its software. And really it's only made bearable by Android Auto, which shouldn't have to be the case. Finally, the phone App has gone from "this totally stinks" to "there's an odd unpleasant aroma around here" when I use it. That's probably the biggest improvement from the car overall in 2+ years.

I am just over a year into my ID.4 and haven't experienced most of these issues. I use an iPhone, so maybe it is Google's issue with Android Auto--possibly in combination with the Bluetooth chip-set on the car's side--why your phone is overheating can't be the car's fault. I've had weird issues with Car-Net App not changing the charging rate but not much else. App seems to work fine. I have an annoying creak that comes and goes but dealer will fix it next stop. The only thing I find annoying is I can't turn off traction control, so I can't get it sideways. I've had no issues with Electrify America's automatic charging--I simply plug it in and go. Perhaps because yours is launch edition? Mine is a 2023. Nevertheless, unlike my Tesla friends, I've never had a problem with it and can even go to any dealer within a day or two for maintenance if I need to--and at least you acknowledged this point. That said, all cars have some units produced that can have issues.
Your thoughts on Taycan are simply bizarre. It's been consistently related the best electric car made. Having driven a few of them, I'd agree.

23 ID.4 3.1.0 owner here. I've experienced several software issues but nothing too serious. The climate control system is probably my biggest complaint. It almost always turns the AC on every time I get in and drive somewhere. It was cold recently and my wife switched on the heater, AC turned on 3 times during her drive. This is using classic climate.
We also had issues with the windows rolling down when we wanted to roll them up, had to calibrate the windows which was simple enough.
Android auto is a bit of a joke. Wireless AA was useless, it was so laggy to navigate so we just turned off the hotspot and use a cable. It's still slow to connect with the cable but at least AA isn't as laggy. The phone still gets hot while connected.
The seats don't always go back to my programmed position, I also can't just press the seat position button to move the seat, it needs to be held? And I get a popup to apply the seat changes to my profile almost every drive, even when nothing has changed.
I've heard 3.2.0 will be a bugfix release, hoping we get it as an OTA soon but I'm not holding my breath.
I'd still recommend a 23 even with the issues I've experienced.

Alex, I have been following your channel for a few years. After buying a model 3 in 2021, we decided to buy another EV. Being a Tesla owner, the 2nd EV was not going to be a Tesla. Living in California made it a challenge to buy an EV at a reasonable price. Before deciding on EVs I tried buying a Toyota RAV4 prime prime for a few years but could never find one that wasn't marked up $10K over the MSRP. I ended up ordering a Subaru, VW and Nissan EV. With the ID4 coming out of Tennessee, it was the lowest cost with the tax break. The Subaru was too much like a Toyota EV with its low range and high price. Nissan did not communicate with me during the one year wait. After seeing your reviews on the ID4 and finding out VW removed the heat pump as well getting cheap on parts, I cancelled my order the week the car came in. Cancelled the Subaru EV too. Nissan the company sucked but the Ariya was pretty nice. The software sucks but the car drives like nice car and not the rollercoaster M3 ride. Your videos were very helpful in my decision in ending up with the Nissan Ariya.
I've been to Thailand a few times and love the people and its culture. Good luck to you on the next chapter in your life and channel!!!

The Nissan Ariya looks nice. Nissans ICE cars they say are not as reliable as Toy & Honda yet my family has 2012 Altima and 2016 Rogue. So far so good, but we put very few miles on each car. The selling point for me with Nissan ICE cars was the much cheaper price the Nissans were, whether used or new. What made you decide on a Nissan Ariya over the Tesla model Y ???

    • @dchow007
      @dchow007 Год назад

@@sevencostanza3931 Our other EV is a model 3 and had to bring it in for service. The service department was so so and will only get worst as they sell more cars. Like their supercharger station, there's not enough service station so repairs can take time. The Y is just a bigger version of the 3 but with more power. I missed comfortable seats and headliner grab handles for my mother in law to get in and out of the car. The interior of the Ariya is way nicer and the heads up display is great. The tesla screen, charging speed and navigation is way better than nissan. But I am happy with the Ariya and enjoy taking it out a leisurely drive every once in a while.

This just makes me glad that I bought a Mach-E instead. Problems with it have been mostly non-existent except for the HVBJB recall (which I got fixed without too much trouble). They've been really good about getting OTA updates out (I've had 2 in the past month), and there are very few (and very minor) issues left. The OTA I got yesterday is actually supposed to fix the worst of the lingering problems (sometimes when I'd get in when using my phone as a key, it'd disconnect AFTER it had already let me open the door, so I'd have to wait for a little bit before I could turn the car on (which was annoying, but didn't happen ALL of the time).

Interesting, I live in China and am considering an ID6 Crozz. Chinese forums suggest that the software bugs are mostly fixed with a recent update. However this is China, so no Android Auto here (no Google), and I guess the engineers are actually Chinese, which would explain most of the issues you encountered. They have Carplay and Baidu Carlife here. 204HP is a bummer alright but as a family hauler it's ok. 8 year warranty on power train is nothing to sneer at, and it's transferable to the next owner (only Tesla and Xpeng have this), with a subjectively nicer and larger interior than Tesla MY and a crazy discount as they don't sell well. Unfortunately it uses a ternary lithium ion battery, all the more reason to have that warranty.
