Thank you! My user screen opens when I get in the vehicle and I'm the only driver. Is there a way to bypass the need to click OK on my name every time I get ready to drive?
I love my 2023 ID4, but I had to struggle a bit because my sales rep did not give me any of these crucial tips, and had to figure them out as I went along. Google searches have been a lifesaver, but wish I had found this video earlier. The worst omission is failure to inform new owners about what to do if the charging plug will not release. It happened to me at a public charging station. Thank you for putting this out there.
Enjoyed your video and learned a few things. One thing I disagree with, however: I really like the VW navigation on my ID.4 Pro. I especially love how it never fails to find a good charging station on long trips.
Very nice job sir. We picked up our ID.4 last Thursday and still figuring out different things. The menu layers are like youtube videos, you can go on forever, and ever, and ever!!!!
Fantastic video! Thank you! I also just taught myself how to save a parking maneuver! Super cool! My ID.4 now pulls down my driveway, and turns around and backs into the carport on its own!
UK VW dealer handover, tick all these boxes on the form and here's the keys - bye.... :D :D I learnt more in this one video than days behind the wheel fiddling - thanks!
Thanks, Bob, Very helpful video. I have had my ID.4 AWD Pro S for almost a month, and learned a couple of things, including the range via the Navigation System. Very cool! I have a question: when I first got it, I was able to move my leg under the rear gate to open it when I had a grocery bags in both hands, but somehow it is not doing that after a couple of weeks. Do you know the steps to set that up again? I went under "Settings," and the “Easy Open” is still checked. I unchecked and rechecked it, but it still does not work. Thanks again.
Thank you very much for your little videos, which are informative, we are about to buy an ID 4 here at home in Denmark, your data with miels is quite easy to translate to killometer, we are on metric in Europe, our ID 4 has been a demo car at a vw dealer in Germany, where the dealer I work with picks it up for me, with only 14000 km aka 8450 miles, which it has only driven as a test at a dealer, so we have it at a fairly favorable price, your videos are informative, and help an old fool like me, we are about the same age,.... Greetings from Martin from northern Jutland in Denmark,
Thanks so much. A few comments and questions: 1 when is vehicle to house power coming, i think a software update enables this and then what do i need to make this work? 2 A video on how to best plan trips for charging including thing like a round trip and setting preferences to prefer electrify America which is free would be great. 3 Another good tip is how to use Electrify America, charging stations are often difficult to register at, but using app on phone to select which charger you are using once there seems to fix many of the problems i had.
Thanks Bob, I’m in Scotland and have had my ID4 since 2021. It was a poor handover at the dealership because of Covid restrictions. I was delighted today to see your tip about cleaning the rear camera! 😀
Thanks for tips. I have a 2021 ID.4 and was told about many of your suggestions or have learned them my self over the past year and a half. However, I did not know about number 10- how to clean the backup camera. So thank you again.
I’ve just purchased a 2024 ID-4 and am pleased that my wife found this video to begin my learning process. My question is ‘Are there any critical or useful differences between the 2024 and earlier versions of this vehicle?’ Also, have you by any chance produced any other videos on this model that I should watch.
Nice video. I have one for you. How do you change phones when going down the road? I have an android, my wife has an apple. The only way we have found to switch between them is to shut off the one we are presently using. Is there a simpler way? Thanks
Thanks for the great info, Bob! In my case, I didn’t get any of this information because I purchased my ID.4 from an individual, so I didn’t get any of the “tips and tricks”. I’ll go back through your other videos to learn more…I can tell you that i already love my car and am looking forward to putting into practice all that I learn from you.
Central Locking almost caused a fight between me & my spouse. She was not able to open the passenger door, but I was convinced it should have been unlocked. I then got out of the driver's seat, walked around to the passenger door, and it opened for me. She thought I was gaslighting her!
Hi Bob, you can reset the “Since Start”, “Since Charge” and “Long Term” trip odometers by pressing the “0.0” button the the bottom right corner of each respective screen.
Hi! I’m Watching You from Russia :)) Figuring out about getting vw id4 after my 2018 Nissan Leaf (True Japanese), so your video gave me a hand! Thanx a lot!
Wish I had bought my car from your dealership. It would have been worth the drive from Denver. Great information. Feeling like I need to watch a couple of times to remember it all.
Great video. One additional question I have is with the user profiles. Selecting a User Profile Every Time you start the car is very Annoying. Can you set a profile so the car doesn’t ask you to confirm the user every time. I’m running 3.1 software so maybe there is an update to fix this or you have a trick to bypass this.
Hi from Boulder, Bob. Thank you so much for the videos, I've listened to this one twice and will listen again. We picked up our 2023 ID.4 on Thursday and we found your info very helpful. You did address climate control but here is a Q: Is there a way to turn the cabin fan completely off? It seems to be on all the time whether in Eco or Comfort or Custom. And, we do not seem able to customize the climate in the Custom mode!? Here's something our sales person did not tell us - just press the "i" button in the cabin to contact VW app support. That enabled us to make me the Primary car user and my husband the Secondary user (instead of Primary and Guest). Then I was able to allow him full access to info on the app. Thanks, again.
Another tip that I wish I knew. My intermittent windshield wipers did not work in a light steady rain. They wiped once in intermittent and stopped. I found that ypu can turn off the rain sensing function in the vehicle menu. Then, the intermittent wipers worked as in traditional mode. I can live with that.
Hi Bob 👋 thanks so much for your videos about the ID.4 Actually, I have 2 questions about my ID4 Pro S 2023 1- How can I turn on the reverse mirror tilt down ? 2- How can I close all the windows at once from the fob key when I leave the car? Thanks 🙏
Hey Principal Bob! Thanks for the video! I got the chance to experience the "locked" charging cable at my first public charge stop (EVGO) station. I was told by the charge station customer service to hit my unlock/lock each 10 times which worked!👍🏾 I do have one question, and apologies if there is a video for this, but how come we do not get a charging cable on the used vehicle purchase?☹
Absolutely great! I learned a lot. Here’s a question: When I have a bike rack on the ID.4 (mounted on the trailer hitch), I turn off the backup sensor so the car won’t brake automatically. The problem is that I also lose the backup camera because it turns off automatically. Any way to use the backup camera when the sensor is turned off?
I am expecting delivery of my 2023 ID 4 in the next 3 wks in Denver. This was VERY helpful!! And also helpful that you are essentially local. LOVED to hear that you use the nav system in RMNC!! Thanks for this video.
Hello Bob, granted we knew our sales guy did not know a thing about our 23 pro s plus, since we rushed to pick it up as he was the first guy we met... a long story... thank you for your videos. They really help out! -Nashville, TN
First of all, this was awesome - best I have seen!!! I have 30,000 miles on my First Edition.I love it - but I admit it is a work in progress. I have 2 questions. One - how do I set t it so the lights go on inside the car when I open it up? I mean all the lights. I know how to push the overhead button ( but it is dark and half the time I can't find it. How do you set it so these lights always come on when I open the door. By the way - it is a great system when all the lights are on you can find anything - but I can't figure out how to set it to always light up when I open the car door... The second question you might not be able to answer. How do I set it so the beeping when I back up does not continue for the whole time I am backing up?
Awesome info thanks One irritation I cant solve I want the inside Recirculation mode locked into always on But at each start up , i have to push inside Recirculation on again.. Is there a solution? Thanks
Great tips, I heard about your channel from another RUclipsr and almost passed on subscribing. I thank God that I did, it is so refreshing to encounter someone who is so knowledgeable and shares that knowledge. Again, thanks, and God bless,
Thank you for this video!!!! It is very educational. You're a good teacher as well! Can you make a video showing what the Carnet App looks like and how to use it on your cellphone?
Hey, Bob. Thanks a lot for some nice tips. I thought, before I saw the video, hey I have that car figured out, he can not teach me anything. But hey, I learned some nice tips regarding the cold air and the map showing your range. So thank you 🙂
Please discuss hand gestures. Ours changed channels on radio if sleeve brushes steering wheel, also while turning, wrist brushes steering wheel and resume speed causes a problem. Locking baby lock also happens. Lots of locking door problems.
I found a pretty cool but obscure ID.4 tip as I was poking around RUclips. If you want your 12V power outlet in the trunk to always be on, so that power is available even when the car is switched off (maybe when you're camping), there is a corresponding fuse in the fuse box that you can move from the switched position to the always on position. It takes just a few seconds. This is apparently a general VW thing, not specific to the ID.4, but works on the ID.4. Of course, you have to be careful not to run down the battery! On a related note, when I was poking around the infotainment system screen, I think I might have seen a setting to keep the 12V battery topped off using the high voltage propulsion battery. If it's what it sounds like, it might help prevent the 12V battery from getting drained. Any idea if it would help in this situation?
It turns out the Energy Management setting is in the phone app under Battery. The app describes this as "Enable high-voltage battery when 12-volt battery is too low to send mobile app commands to the vehicle. Selecting High Voltage battery usage for remote and other operations will impact the vehicle driving range."
Wonderful videos...but I have been searching for an answer to this: I purchased a used ID.4 (2021) software v3.1 and I cannot figure out how to clear a previous owner user. This is an ongoing problem as the software continually says sorry, you are a GUEST user. Help! I can't connect the external VW apps.
Awesome Video! How do you preheat the 2023 VW ID 4? Can you schedule the preheat so the vehicle is warm before you have to leave? Its getting cold now here in NY
Bob, when exiting the driver's door it seems to to partially release after I pull the handle and then I must pull the handle a second time for it fully to open. Is there a setting where I can improve thi
Thanks Bob very good I do not have mine yet orderd Aug 2021 with no comunication from VW or the dealer how ever I try to prepair my self so I do not look like an idiot thanks again from Canada Toronto area
Nice talk. However, in the past four years, never had a single glitch on my Kia eNiro. Looking into VW now, but, not sure. Also, I like charging in the Tesla network and here the chargers is on the wrong side as on the Niro btw.)
A very good introduction to the complexity of managing a modern car, electric or not. There's far, far too much to tinker with that can make the experience of the vehicle less than it should be. When it's exclusively done through a touch screen, that's even worse. For example, the radio volume controls - totally invisible in the dark - and the HVAC controls, too. Surely physical knobs and buttons are far more effective. I have a friend who decided against changing his Mk 7 Golf for a Mk 8 Golf because of the controls. VW need to re-think this. Come to think of it, many other manufacturers could too.
Hi Bob, Thank you for taking the time to create this educational video. You've provided some additional things that I have not learned from other videos. I have a 2023 ID.4 Pro S and was wondering if it's possible to turn ON the music on the car, while I'm playing basketball. I've pressed the ON button next to the steering wheel column and it works for about 20 minutes and then it turns off by itself. Would you happen to know how I can turn ON for an hour without any turning off interruption? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Julio
Great video Bob! Thanks, just picked up our id4 this week. Question... What's the proper way to set up mirrors & seats for individual drivers & when you approach should your custom setting be ready for you when you get in the car. THANKS!
Super helpful stuff! I wonder if there’s a way to change the sensitivity of the rain shield wipers? I find that it doesn’t wipe as much as I’d like on the intermittent setting.
Very good tips. I like the auto hold and radio power tip and trip odometer in cockpit, and backup camera washer! FYI latch in charge port is not the only lock holding CCS connector in the car - the CCS connector has an electromechanical latch that locks onto top of charge inlet, too. J1772 connector is only locked in place with car's locking pin. On my 2017 e-Golf pressing the J1772 button or the CCS connector button will not unlock either connector, and J1772 won't even stop charging (e-Golf does not follow J1772 standard in this respect) - I need to unlock the car to get any connector off the car.
Hey Bob, love your content. I've owned an id.4 for about a month now and love it. Android Auto is extremely finnicky to connect/switch between phones reliably. This happens on wired and wireless AA and sometimes takes >60 seconds to connect. Are there any tips in this area you can share to make this aspect of the car less frustrating?
I find the car is less forgiving toward Android phones. However, it should not take sixty-seconds to connect. I would try to connect your phone with another car at the dealership and see if it is the phone, or the car. Does anyone else who uses the car have the same issues?
@@electricprincipal543 My wife and I both have android phones and it happens to both of us, both wired and wireless. She has an Android Audo head unit in her car (Sony aftermarket) and both of our phones connect instantly to it.
Really useful thanks Bob. Quick question to you or anyone else, should the volume and temperature slides light up with rest of instruments at night. Mine doesnt and not sure if its a fault.
2023 ID4 Pro S, I do not have back light for these controls either... I suspect that there just is not a back light, which is kind of a distracting thing while you are driving at night.
Good Afternoon Principal Bob. Thank very much for your previous reply. Concerning this latest video, particularly tip #5, I thought that was a really cool visual on the map being able to visually show the range limit of the car. However, I have been unable to replicate this tip. Now I do have the last of the German built cars, and I do have software version 3.1which I think is the latest version. I have tried following your example several times, but I just can't make that perimeter appear. Any thoughts? Also, would you have any idea for snow chain recommendations for the ID.4? I can't seem to find anything in the manual or online about whether they have to be cable or whether there is a chain version that could be used and in a 4 wheel drive which end of the car they would have to go on? I'm sorry to bother you about these things, but I can't seem to get these answers out of my local dealership. Thanks very much for your time.
Great info! I have one question. On my '23 ID4 Pro S, when I put the driver side window down part way then go to put it back up either with a half push or full push (auto up/down), the window goes down first and stops full down so then I have to put the window up from there. I know about the 'reset feature' where you hold the button at either the close or open full for 5-10 seconds. That more or less works but after a few times it reverts back to the same operation going opposite of doing what you want. Are the windows software controlled? It's not a big deal but seems strange to me. thanks!
Bob, does it mean that my particular car won’t be able to receive a heat pump or battery preconditioning? Only future new ID4s will get the heat pump and battery preconditioning?
Thank you! My user screen opens when I get in the vehicle and I'm the only driver. Is there a way to bypass the need to click OK on my name every time I get ready to drive?
“Have you tried turning it off and on again “ music to my ears 🤣😂😅
I love my 2023 ID4, but I had to struggle a bit because my sales rep did not give me any of these crucial tips, and had to figure them out as I went along. Google searches have been a lifesaver, but wish I had found this video earlier. The worst omission is failure to inform new owners about what to do if the charging plug will not release. It happened to me at a public charging station. Thank you for putting this out there.
Thanks Bob! Just took delivery of my 2023 ID.4 Pro12/23. First EV and loving it thus far, but I have a lot to learn & your tips were most useful.
You’re doing the lords work Bob. VW Corp should hire you to create a training program. Appreciate you!
Enjoyed your video and learned a few things. One thing I disagree with, however: I really like the VW navigation on my ID.4 Pro. I especially love how it never fails to find a good charging station on long trips.
Great presentation,Principal Bob. Tks. Rick/79yrs old/Seattle🥸
Lovely manner of explanation, lovely patience, great consolation for the troubles of ownership. Thanks Bob.
Thank you four your kind comment.
Very cool! Hi Bob, so glad you were our salesman, or should I say consultant. Thanks so much, great video.
It was a pleasure working with you, Eric.
Learned something new today. Thank you.
Thanks Bob. Been driving my ID4 for 7 months and even learned a few things.
Excellent tutorial Bob. I learned somehting for my ID.3 - how to turn off the annoying radio quickly!
Thank you Sir.
Just got an ID4 and learned several things. Thanks
Hi Bob, great video! How do you remove those 2 messages that appear next to the globe on the panel?
Agreed 100%. A lot of people don't understand EVs until they actually own one.
Thanks for the tip on the key fob and it can open all doors. With kids and their stuff it's nice to have all doors auto unlock
Thank you very much for your little videos, which are informative, we are about to buy an ID 4 here at home in Denmark, your data with miels is quite easy to translate to killometer, we are on metric in Europe, our ID 4 has been a demo car at a vw dealer in Germany, where the dealer I work with picks it up for me, with only 14000 km aka 8450 miles, which it has only driven as a test at a dealer, so we have it at a fairly favorable price,

Greetings from Martin from northern Jutland in Denmark,
2021 id4 here; great video, I learned a ton, like the trip odometer! TY
Great tutorial, Bob! I work in the Battery Plant at Volkswagen in Chattanooga, TN.
Had my ID4 here in south of France for 12 months and watching your video I learned at least 3 new things. thanks
How do i turn on 360 camera when I’m not in the parking or reverse mode?
Thanks so much. A few comments and questions: 1 when is vehicle to house power coming, i think a software update enables this and then what do i need to make this work? 2 A video on how to best plan trips for charging including thing like a round trip and setting preferences to prefer electrify America which is free would be great. 3 Another good tip is how to use Electrify America, charging stations are often difficult to register at, but using app on phone to select which charger you are using once there seems to fix many of the problems i had.

My question is ‘Are there any critical or useful differences between the 2024 and earlier versions of this vehicle?’ Also, have you by any chance produced any other videos on this model that I should watch.

You will love driving the car. Buying a used ID.4 is a great way to save a lot of money.
I love you. Thank you. Can you talk me through battery warnings? Today I was hit with a Red car, a red triangle and a yellow battery warning. Yikes!
Wish I had bought my car from your dealership. It would have been worth the drive from Denver.
Great information. Feeling like I need to watch a couple of times to remember it all.
...And we would have only charged you $499 for dealer prep :)
This is a great video, I'm in the UK & just about to purchase an ID 4. Thanks for the video
I learned at least 3 new things, great video!
Excellent coverage Bob, I did not know about the trip odometer reset. Keep up the great work.
Great tip about the washer for the rear camera.
very useful info, when I got my id.4 last month, my dealer never taught me anything, only hand me a key and said good luck 😂
Too many sales persons are selling without a license:). Thanks for the complement.
Hi Bob 👋 thanks so much for your videos about the ID.4
Actually, I have 2 questions about my ID4 Pro S 2023
1- How can I turn on the reverse mirror tilt down ?
2- How can I close all the windows at once from the fob key when I leave the car?
Thanks 🙏
Hey Principal Bob! Thanks for the video! I got the chance to experience the "locked" charging cable at my first public charge stop (EVGO) station. I was told by the charge station customer service to hit my unlock/lock each 10 times which worked!👍🏾
I do have one question, and apologies if there is a video for this, but how come we do not get a charging cable on the used vehicle purchase?☹
Thanks Bob, I really like how you deliver information to the masses. Good job!
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
Maybe you could explain the difference between D and B modes. I read TFM and figured it out and have been driving in B ever since.
I just bought an ID.4 Pro AWD and pick it this Monday, thanks for the tips! I wanted an Ionic 5 but WAY out of my payment range.
Thanks for this! I’ll have my ID.4 shortly. I borrowed one on Friday and was a little lost with the menus at times, compared to my Alltrack.
Learned some new things! Learned a lot from you before I got my car too! Thanks for the videos
Hello Bob, granted we knew our sales guy did not know a thing about our 23 pro s plus, since we rushed to pick it up as he was the first guy we met... a long story... thank you for your videos. They really help out! -Nashville, TN

Would like to see a video about User profiles, and whether the key fob can be used to trigger them, and what settings apply.
Unfortunately, the key fobs do not seem to have any connection to user profiles.
My subscribers can tell me differently, I’ll pass the information onto you.
Thanks for the info in this video. Have not yet taken possession of my ID4 but am still anxiously awaiting delivery.
Thanks Bob.Very informative.
Thanks Bob great video. Anyway to stop selecting user when there is only one user in the system?
Hey Bob - How do you balance the stereo, front to back and side to side?
Awesome info thanks
One irritation I cant solve
I want the inside Recirculation mode locked into always on
But at each start up , i have to push inside Recirculation on again..
Is there a solution? Thanks

Hello Principal Bob. Can you pls share how to add a second driver? Been trying for some time now without any luck.
Wholly smokes does this guy love to hear himself talk. 3 minutes of useful info packed into 26!
Cool tips for the map coverage. As a new ID-4 owner, I appreciate you sharing.
Our salesman missed numbers 5 and 10. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks Bob for the great video
Awesome Video! How do you preheat the 2023 VW ID 4? Can you schedule the preheat so the vehicle is warm before you have to leave? Its getting cold now here in NY

Is there's a way to fold in the side view mirrors? We have a narrow garage. Thanks for the great video!!!
Real tips right here. Thanks
😀 Big thanks found the Infotaiment system confusing at first this helped a lot =)
Thanks for this, thought it was only mine. Bizarre that they are not illuminated
Hi Bob,
Thank you for taking the time to create this educational video. Julio
Unfortunately no. The car wants to save energy in the 12 volt battery. In electric cars, if the 12 v goes, you are stuck.
Thanks a million ❤
First time on your channel! Thanks for sharing this useful information!
Great video Bob! Thanks, just picked up our id4 this week. Question... What's the proper way to set up mirrors & seats for individual drivers & when you approach should your custom setting be ready for you when you get in the car. THANKS!
Thank you for sharing very informative
Super helpful stuff! I wonder if there’s a way to change the sensitivity of the rain shield wipers? I find that it doesn’t wipe as much as I’d like on the intermittent setting.
Only the variable switch on top of the lever.
Thanks for the video. Awaiting delivery on my 23 model this month.
Thanks for the map thing #5
Where can I locate the How Too's : linking your garage door opener to the rear view mirror 🤔
I saw in other guide videos that one press on the unlock button in the key fob releases the charger. Is it 2 or 1 press?
It's not a big deal but seems strange to me. thanks!
Is there a utility mode to save the 12V?
Hi Bob, how do I permanently turn off lane assist??
Bob, does it mean that my particular car won’t be able to receive a heat pump or battery preconditioning? Only future new ID4s will get the heat pump and battery preconditioning?
Hi Bob, thanks for the video. What to do with the 'license expired' message that loves to pop up every now and then?
It is annoying... software 4.1 fixes this little bug:)
