Usually preferred time only, I have struggled to stop charging my ID4 charging ahead of off-peak times. This is the clearest explanation of charging options I have ever seen and is very helpful thanks.

This was by far the clearest explanation I've come across dealing with setting up charging times on the ID.4.
    Thanks!

Thanks for this video! We just picked up our 2023 ID.4 yesterday and, after driving it for about 200 Km, we wanted to schedule the charging to start in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, the Quick Start Guide provided is not at all easy to follow to find out how to do this, in fact it is useless; so watching your video has helped immensely. Your videos are just what the doctor ordered!

Very helpful! At first I was going to ask "What about when you go to a fast charger station - will it only charge between 10PM - 6AM or whatever you have it set to?" But then DOH - you have it as "Home" and the GPS will take care of that 🙂

This is a really good video that explains the ID.4 charging scheduling system well. My one question is if you want to charge at off peak hours and battery is low, say 30%…what do you want the Direct Charge 0-50% to be set at to start the charge at off-peak hours? Do you set it to 0 to insure that charging will start at 30% and go to 80% during off-peak? Thanks for your help.

@electricprincipal543 - what's the best practice to rotate the ID.4 tires, given that the front and back are different sizes?

I love these videos. This guy knows more about the ID.4 than anyone else I’ve seen on RUclips. I have only one beef, and it’s not about the presenter. I have a 2021 AWD ProS with original software. Most of these videos cover 2022 models with 3.0 software. VW is going like molasses in January to update the older vehicles. It is damn frustrating. Just today I learned that not all dealers are prepared to handle two or three recalls. If they can’t service these vehicles, they shouldn’t be selling them.

I share your frustration. My 21 still has the old software. VW still is behind and producing parts for cars even the current production of ID.4 pluses are missing numerous options. When I made many of the videos, I never dreamed they still have the first addition of the software in many cars.

@@electricprincipal543 Thanks. Here’s a little more info. I’ve demonstrated “extreme” brand loyalty. I had a small car biz for 40 years. We brokered, bought, leased and sold cars. Had about 40 Porsche Audi VW products over the years. And n the past 15 years, three have been unpleasant experiences. Porsche 996 with water cooled engine had so many electrical problems, we turned it in. 2011 Audi A3 TDI was part of the Dieselgate fiasco, also turned in. 2014 Audi A4 burned so much oil, had defective rings. We had to argue with Audi to avoid paying $1000 inspection fee. They finally authorized repair. Two days after repair, the engine chewed up its new rings at low RPMs (while I took it out for a test drive). And now this 2021 VW frustrating experience. I just told VW NA that I will wait one more month to see if new SW can be provided. If they can’t or won’t bring the car up to new specs, I will say Auf Wiedersehen and move on. I’ve been patient long enough.

Thanks for posting the video on setting up a charging schedule. Once the schedule is setup, when do you connect the charging cable? I tried it and setup my start time at 10:00 PM, plugged the charging cable in around 3:30 PM and it started charging immediately. I thought the schedule setup would avoid me going to the garage and connecting at 10:00 PM. What am I missing?

Thanks for all the tips. Might also be useful considering, in theory, that you have to start using the car as soon as the battery is at 100%. Is that right? At least recommended... Thanks

Thanks for the step by step tutorial. Last week I had setup my '23 Pro S for off peak charging. However, it timed out before reaching 80% - for the 10PM - 5AM off peak period. My initial thought was that the car timed out because the 40amp charger could not deliver in that 7 hour window. So, I will address each step tonight - seeing where I wind up in the morning from my current 42% capacity.
I believe if I have similar results I will have determined the minimum sweet spot for the achieving 80%.
If I'm missing some thing let me know. Cheers.

Hello, I appreciate you’re insight and help with the ID.4. However, I followed your directions for remote charging set up in my 22 AWD Pro S Gradient and my Electrfy America charger does not turn on at the time scheduled. I erased timed charging set in the car and set the Electrify America charger to do the remote charging. I’ll know tonight if that works. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again.
Yes, yes. It works on my programmed schedule via the Electrify America charger.

I had the Nema 14-50 professionally installed months ago. Would you recommend an at home charger for me?

I have a 2021 ID.4 and I am waiting to get the software update. I will come back to this video after I get the update. Thank you for the information. One question-if you set the preferred time for the charge for let’s say 10PM, and plug the car in at 9 PM, will the charging automatically start at 10PM?

Great video, have a Model Y and ID4 coming in the next few weeks. I live in MN and wonder about charging to 90-95% regularly during winter specifically. Since the battery is constantly discharging to heat itself, is it harmful to charge to higher %? My utility charges $0.04/kWh from 11PM-7AM and my charger only works during those hours but I often don’t drive until late afternoon or evening. Would love to hear Kyle’s thoughts on this too.

Question : So I plugged my ID4 in the other night with a state of charge of 24%. I have my charge set to stop at 80% but when I got in it in morning it charged to 100%. Never had that happen before. Wondering if you have heard of anyone else having this problem. I did notice that I did not get a “charging session started “ notification on my app. Wondering if it is a software issue. 🤷🏼‍♀️
BTW, thanks much for your videos. They are great!

Make sure you have the general charging set at 80% and the charge to 80% set on the slide bar located below the timer settings. Let me know if this helps.

You can double click the unlock button on the keyfob to unlock the charger. There is also a manual unlock lever located in a hidden compartment in the right of the trunk.

So we’ve owned my mother’s 2023 ID4 pro S for about three weeks now and I programmed it to begin charging at 11 PM and to end charging at 6 AM. However, I like to test technology before I rely on it especially because it’s my mom‘s car and I don’t want her to be without juice the following day since she drive, 66 miles to work round-trip. therefore at 6:45 PM I programmed the car to begin automatically charging at 6:50 PM and set a end time of 6 AM, hopped out of the car, locked it and waited in the garage for the greenlight to come on, and nothing happened. I gave it a second test run to automatically begin charging at 7 PM and once again nothing happened, my question to you is, do I need to select the day of the week Monday through Sunday for the specific charge times to occur?
