Awesome, you have all studio album on vinyl. You're not only ranked, you give the explanation about the album too. My favorite is Edge of Thorns. Nice t shirt.
Great choice on your favourite, Criss Oliva absolutely shines on Edge Of Thorns. Thanks for watching & thank you for the kind words. Hope to chat with you again 🤘 Cheers from Canada
this is awesome, i saw Savatage with Forbidden and Fates Warning in Hollywood, i went for Forbidden but fuck, since then i hooked up on Savatage and love it since!! Grace of the Witch and Sirens fucking Rule!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I remember the first time I heard about the band Savatage was in Metal Edge in 1994. After I graduated high school in 1997 a friend was heavily into them and he got me into them. Edge Of Thorns was my introduction.
I was introduced to this band with the song "The Dungeons are Calling" off of a double LP compilation called Welcome to the Metal Zone on the Music for Nation label in 1985. From there I bought the just released"Power of the Night" which is still my favorite today followed by HOTMK. I'm with you on" Wake of Magellan". Bought it when it came out, listened once, never again. Great video and great channel!
I never heard of Welcome To The Metal Zone, but compilations like that were always a great way to discover new bands. I love Power Of Night too, great album with that awesome guitar tone. Thanks for watching & thanks for kind words, always appreciated 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Glad to see you getting back into more ranking videos buddy, those are what brought me to your channel in the first place! I really need to do a Savatage ranking in the future, I’m sure that our number one would be the same, but Dead Winter Dead would be significantly higher. But then again, I am a really big fan of TSO!
I know how much of a fan of TSO you are & I haven’t forgotten your words telling people to check out the live show, I certainly will go if they’re playing within a reasonable distance for me to drive to. Sometimes it sucks living in the middle of nowhere, Canada 🤣 Cheers Earl
As you said, Ranking videos should be helpful...well, this was the case here. I still listen to Gutter Ballet (Hounds is soo awesome!) and Hall of the Mountain King, but Streets was not my cup of tea, so I lost interest a bit after that and lost track of the band. But I definetely will check out Albums like the Debut and Power of the Night. I don't know why I didn't before. So thx for the video. Happy Easter, take care and stay heavy (but I think you will....)
Your in for a treat with Sirens & Power Of The Night, two great albums! Actually, you might be glad you missed them because you get to hear them now ha ha. Happy Easter to you too 🤘 I hope you have a great weekend.
Awesome ranking Darcy. Such an amazing band. Wish they'd make a come back. Jon Oliva is one of my all time favorite vocalists and Power of The Night ranks in my top 10 metal tunes. Hall Of The Mountain King is also my favorite by them. Have a great weekend and Happy Easter!
A good reference video Darcy. Mountain King and Gutter Ballet are the albums I know from these guys. And like you say hearing people talk about the different albums and recommending different songs makes you aware of them.
Well you’re aware of two of the best in my opinion, hope you check out a few more! Thanks as always for taking a little time to hang out with this old(er) guy lol 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Great ranking Darcy, Savatage are one of those bands that didn't quite get there. I quite like TSO, so those later albums I quite enjoy. Still... nothing beats the Oliva bros era with Hall of the Mountain King and Gutter Ballet.
Such a feeling of accomplishment to have completed this Ear Music reissue collection. Love that Omen album as well. Very appropriate to have one of their contemporaries playing with their ranking. You know what video would be so helpful. If you did one on the sites you go to to get your news and release information from. That would probably make a giant hole in my wallet…haha
I was late to the Savatage party, but have caught up with the catalog over the last 5 years, with Hall of the Mountain King being No. #1. Do you have an opinion of Circle II Circle or Jon Oliva's Pain? I know Jon has stated that his band is like a continuation of Savatage. Great Video as usual.
Great ranking Darcy! The bottom is way different than mine but I love it! Also like that Omen album your'e spinning in the background! P.S. Love that Obituary shirt I'm really digging their new album! Take care Darcy!
What a great ranking! What a great band for the most part of their carrer. Zak Stevens was a little to clean for my ears but at least Handful of rain works fantastic for me. But of course it is their early work up to Streets that makes them undieable. Hall of the mountain king is top ten best album of all time. Aaaaannd... the King Diamond/Savatage/Candlemass Conspiracy tour was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Fantastic job Darcy!
Hey Darcy, thank you for all these ranking videos you put up, I've discovered and started to dig deep into quite a few of these bands you've ranked....Savatage being one of them....cheers 🍻🍻🍻
You’re very welcome! Savatage is a great band to get into, especially the albums with Criss Oliva on guitar. Thanks for taking the time to hang out with me 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
Great video Darcy. I'm such a huge Savatage fan. My ranking of course would be different 😂 I really love Poets and Madman. Tough to rank for me though. Miss Chris big time and Jon is a genius. Have a good weekend bro 🤘
Savatage has an extremely strong catalogue of music that evolved over the years which makes any band much more interesting to get into. I'd dare say HOTMK is in my top 10 favorite albums of all time, its just so damn good and doesn't get old. Thanks for the video Darcy....btw you might have seen already but Gamma Ray is reissuing a hits compilation on vinyl next month. Take care!
Hall Of The Mountain King is definitely one of my favourite albums of all time, what’s not to like haha! Yes I have Blast From The Past on order, gotta have those songs with Kai on vocals. Have a great Easter weekend Steve 🤘
Well, as a hardcore savatage fan, everything savatage did (even without great Criss ) was in to ART! Jon and Paul did miracles too. Poets and madness especially was a splendid work! Every savatage album has its value, and it is a valuable value. That is that make them TOP! You forgot to mention about some extremely songs, and these are " stranger in the dark" and " Target" . I ve never heard something like these 2 in my life.. So unique! Even so for "city beneath the surface" and "Midas knight", i ve heard something like that too. Well savatage made many songs that are unique and that makes them one of the 10 best metal bands of all time! Well everything i love from savatage, but my top 5 is : 1) the hall of the mountain king + the dungeons are calling ( together) 2) Gutter ballet 3) Streets 4) Edge of thorns
Another great ranking, always a great watch. Its a bonus when its a good band too. Nice you include the Dungeon EP too, its pretty much an extension of the Sirens album. My number one and two are the same, absolute classics! Maybe Sirens is my number two, great one too. You really seem to like that "tone", hahaha. Great as always Darcy 🤘
Great episode, Darcy! With those great reissues it is the best time ever to spin their catalog on vinyl. I also love how you can hear the early hints of TSO in some of their later albums. Like you, I tilt toward the earlier period, but I have to say that Handful of Rain has grown on me a lot over the years. Hall of the Mountain King, both the song and album, are all-time metal classics (and that little troll in the video 🤣🤣🤣). Go see TSO, it is an incredible experience. I've seen them six times and they put on a phenomenal stage show on par with the likes of Kiss, no exaggeration. Keep up the great work and thanks for another PlanetSixStrings gem! 🤘💯🥃
The troll rules 😂🤣 Thanks as always for the great comment & kind words! Hope you can spin some Savatage & enjoy a nice Kentucky bourbon this weekend 🤘 Cheers from Planet6Strings
Hi darcy..my favorite album will always be hall ...king. ps the new hellripper album is next level ah. ..what an amazing album..hi from ian in New Zealand..take it easy man😊
Cool ranking Darcy I always like to use your rankings as a buying guide have recently begun my savatage journey by picking up sirens and the dungeons are calling on one remastered set!
Sorry about the dent in the wallet haha! Glad they put those together on one disc, great set. Thanks as always for the taking the time to hang out 🤘 Cheers Robert
Hi Darcy great video again love this band started listening to them last year I don't have all of them don't have the ep or the one with the flag but my fav one is gutter ballet and that was my first one I got all the others are great but that one does it for me lol thanks
Hell yeah! 🤘 "Hall of the Mountain Kkng" is still my favourite. Oh, BTW. June 2. Black Sabbath's "Live Evil" is being released as a Super Deluxe 4 CD and 4 LP box set. I'm getting mine!
The vinyl set is expensive, but it’s got Ronnie so I’m going to need it lol. I might have to ask for that for Father’s Day. Hope you had a good Easter weekend 🤘 Cheers Mark
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 I'll be getting the CD's, as I have the previous four box sets on CD format. If they release "Live Evil" as a stand-alone two lp set, I'll get it. I don't like spending a fortune on vinyl for possible fillers. Great choice for Father's Day! Beats the hell out of socks and underwear! 🤣
I have never heard anything past "Handful..." and I probably never will. Believe it or not, I haven´t even heard a single note from "Fight for the Rock" either.... On the back cover of "Gutter..." when Paul really got involved... I guess he said "You have to kick that axe in the trashcan" and then added more piano layers, hehehe....
It's always great to see a Savatage ranking. Criss Oliva is high in my list when it comes to lead guitar playing and tone and he had such a unique sound. I do agree with Wake Of Magellan would be my least favorite and I think it sounds more like Trans Siberian Orchestra. I have seen Trans Siberian Orchestra before and they put on an amazing show. Great ranking Darcy! 🤘🤘
My ranking, Darcy is as follows: 1) The Hall Of The Mounting King 2) Power Of The Night , comin' in at 3 place-The Gutter Ballet 4) Poets and Madmen (because of John's vocal on it) 5) Edge Of Thorns 6) Handful Of Rain. As for the rest-it depends on my mood😉
That’s a great Top 6. Yes it was nice to have Jon back on vocals on Poets and Madmen. I hope we will see a new Savatage album in 2025. You loving Savatage means you have great taste 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 I usta play, Darcy, when I was a student at Moscow State University where I formed my own band named "Orient". Chris Oliva alongside with Glenn Tipton, and Tony Iommy had a great influence upon me as I played the guitar. Even though I'm 63 now and was brought up with the music by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, Steppen Wolf and Jimi Hendrix, Nathareth and so forth, at some time i fell in love with Savatage, and Judas Priest and then it all started)
1. Gutter Ballet (1989) 2. Hall of The Mountain King (1987) 3. Streets: A Rock Opera (1991) 4. Sirens/The Dungeons Are Calling (1983/1984) 5. Edge of Thorns (1993) 6. The Wake of Magellan (1997) 7. Power of the Night (1985) 8. Poets and Madmen (2001) 9. Dead Winter Dead (1995) 10. Handful of Rain (1994) 11. Fight for The Rock (1986)
I'm not familiar with the whole discography but maybe just four albums. Since Gutter Ballet is one of my favorite albums of all times and therefore it would be very hard for any other Savatage albums to surpass it, I would put it in the first place.
My Top 2 are definitely related to that time in my life & every time I listen to those two albums just text me back! Your #1 is a masterpiece! Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
Hi Darcy!! it's alwlays coo, to hear your thoughts about Savatage, for some reason they passed me by back in the day, i remember watching the video for HOTMK and thought what a silly and corny video and then lost track of them, maybe now it's time to revisit their earlier catalogue and give it a fair try, cheers and be well
There are a few Savatage albums I absolutely adore, but they are few and far between and they've never made me want to dig deep. Sirens, Hall, Dungeons and Gutter are all I need if I'm honest. Great to hear your thoughts on the full catalogue though.
Did you ever see them live? Saw them at Dynamo Open Air 1989 and with Vicious Rumors on the ‘91 Streets tour, awesome! Saw Jon Oliva in 2012, but it was quite embarassing..he was so heavy he couldn’t stand up for some minutes..had to sit almost during the entire show. Cheers Darcy!
No, unfortunately I never got to see them live. I’m glad to hear you did, that’s awesome! Jon definitely battled more than just drug use, I think he’s lucky to be alive. Hope all is good your way 🤘 Cheers Mark
Hey good timing, I just got Ghost In The Ruins live album, just amazing! I have no idea why I didn’t own it already. Criss was one of a kind! Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
dang. was getting worried about you. thought the wife might have got ahold of your wallet. 1. Hall of the Mountain King 2. Sirens 3. The Dungeons are Calling 4. Power of the Night 5. Streets: A Rock Opera 6. Poets and Madmen 7. Gutter Ballet 8. Edge of Thorns That's all the studio material I own. I actually just got "Poets and Madmen" not too long ago. I'd completely forgotten that Oliva sang on it. Thought it was great. Like discovering a long lost friend. It maybe should even be higher, but like I said, I haven't had it for long. Keep up the good work!
No she lets my do my thing haha! Just been under the weather, I don’t get sick often but when I do I’m a big baby! Yeah it was nice to have Jon back on vocals on Poets, he’s always been the voice of Savatage for me. Have a great weekend 🤘
Good to hear your thoughts on this discography. 'Fight for the Rock' isn't that bad IMO, but it was a problem back in the 80s when the labels meddled too much with the creative process. It often ended up backfiring anyways. Are you going to do a Top 10 concept albums?
I really should do a video on favourite concept albums, thanks for the little push haha! Yeah definitely lots of pros and cons back in the day with those big labels. Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
I always wonder if the name held them back. I know me and my mates had heard of them back in the 80s but nobody ever mentioned them and then the next time they god mentioned was because Alex Skolnik joined them. I put the first album on the other day and enjoyed it.
For me 'Dungeons' blows em all away and without Jon Oliver they lost the plot . Opinions , opinions , the only one that matters is your own . Keep up the great work Midas Knight 🗡
Jon was always there but I know what your saying! I can’t imagine what he went through losing his brother, the problems with drugs, alcohol & issues with his weight! Thanks as always for the great comment Double R 🤘
12- Dead Winter Dead 11- Fight for the Rock 10 Handful of Rain 9- Sirens 8- Power of the Night 7- Dungeons 6-Poets Madmen 5- Edge of Thorns 4- Wake of Magellan 3--Streets 2--Gutter Ballet 1- Hall of the Mountain King My list never was a fan of Dead winter dead, sirens, fight for the rock was a contractual obligation, handful of rain was just ok but no Criss I mean you cannot replace him period it's impossible. Hall of the Mountain King has to be #1 period !!! Streets & Wake I enjoyed as well. Sidenote Poets Madmen was strong album very underrated as well. Avatar , Doctor Butcher sessions, also check out Chris Caffrey solo albums are strong to .
Doctor Butcher is great! You’re right, no way you can replace a talent like Criss Oliva, he was one of kind! Thanks for watching & sharing your ranking 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
I should of mention Doctor Butcher too, shit I need write stuff down lol. I still need to get Jon’s solo stuff. Metal will never die at Planet6Strings 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
Salut Darcy.Nice video.I'm not a big Savatage fan.Hall of the mountain King is a good album and my favorite of them.Fight for the rock n°8.Wow.This album is just unlistenable for me.
I DO NOT agree with your ranking, but anyone doing a Savatage ranking deserves my attention! I am not through the video yet... But the top 2 better be Gutter Ballet and Streets... That is all!!! PS - Jealous of the vinyl collection!!
Did you finish watching ? We good now lol. The two you mentioned I do love, the ranking reflects that! Yes I’m happy to have these on vinyl, the reissues are very well done. Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
I have to say, Savatage album covers are all pretty great but Edge of Thorns is Amazing, too bad I dislike Zach Stevens so much because musically all the Savatage are excellent, but without Jon its just not the same band. Also I LOVE the original Sirens album cover with the lone Ship in the Mist, its just beautiful.
Alright Mate , I will be perfectly honest I have never heard A Savatage track let alone an album . Watching some of the videos on You Tube by other North Americans it would appear to me that a lot of bands loved over there , mean next to nothing in the UK and vica versa. Guess it must be like beer it just does not travel well. All the best.
Your absolutely right! Savatage is one of those bands that didn’t make a huge impact over the pond! Definitely goes both ways, a couple examples of bands that I never heard of until just a few years ago are Sabbat & Xentrix. All the best to you too Nicholas 🤘
I am a die hard Savatage fan. First I had the ep and after that i bought most of their albums. Gutter Ballet and The Hall of the Mountain King are my favorites. The live album Ghost in the Ruins is so good!
You will see that live album in my next update, I just picked up the brand new reissue a few weeks ago! Fantastic live album! It’s a must have for any Savatage fan. Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada

I know it's one man's opinion but, Wake should definitely be higher. When looking at the lyrics it's amazing how the story is told throughout. And the self-titled track along with hourglass mix heavy and symphonic elements perfectly (gotta mention the uncommon vocals on Wake of Magellan). Heavily biased but I'd rank it top five.
I 100% percent agree with you about this great band! It's absolutely AWESOME and unfortunately underrated(🤝🙏

1. Gutter Ballet (1989)
2. Hall of The Mountain King (1987)
3. Streets: A Rock Opera (1991)
4. Sirens/The Dungeons Are Calling (1983/1984)
5. Edge of Thorns (1993)
6. The Wake of Magellan (1997)
7. Power of the Night (1985)
8. Poets and Madmen (2001)
9. Dead Winter Dead (1995)
10. Handful of Rain (1994)
11. Fight for The Rock (1986)
That’s the #12 you wanted to see hey Kevin 🤣 Thanks for sharing your ranking, love your Top 2 🤘
Just try Power Of The Night one more time, you can do that for me right ? Alrighty then thanks Andy 🤣
I agree with the list 🤘rip Chris
Only 30 years old when he passed! Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers Frank
Totally agree on Criss being the greatest very sadly missed
Hey good timing, I just got Ghost In The Ruins live album, just amazing! I have no idea why I didn’t own it already. Criss was one of a kind! Thanks for watching 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
dang. was getting worried about you. thought the wife might have got ahold of your wallet.
1. Hall of the Mountain King
2. Sirens
3. The Dungeons are Calling
4. Power of the Night
5. Streets: A Rock Opera
6. Poets and Madmen
7. Gutter Ballet
8. Edge of Thorns
That's all the studio material I own.
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 glad you're feeling better. the bug's been going around here too.
Agree on most of it except for Gutter Ballet which is my fav and Edge Of Thorns for me right after Streets at no 4
Yeah I love Gutter Ballet too, not much separating my Top 2. Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
I feel like my ranking of this band is all over place. And it isn’t easy ranking either.
Have you heard the Jon Olivia Pain solo albums ? You you haven't you should check out the song People Say- Gimme Some Hell.
Almost everything you say I agree with . Savatage is one of the greatest bands ever . Jon and criss were the best
In they’re prime they where untouchable! Thanks for checking this one out 🤘 Take care ~ Darcy
12- Dead Winter Dead
11- Fight for the Rock
10 Handful of Rain
9- Sirens
8- Power of the Night
7- Dungeons
6-Poets Madmen
5- Edge of Thorns
4- Wake of Magellan
3--Streets
2--Gutter Ballet
1- Hall of the Mountain King
My list never was a fan of Dead winter dead, sirens, fight for the rock was a contractual obligation, handful of rain was just ok but no Criss I mean you cannot replace him period it's impossible.
I seek POWER one of my favorite SAVATAGE tunes and do you like JON'S solo stuff and keep Metal ALIVE!!! Thanks D'ARCY
I should of mention Doctor Butcher too, shit I need write stuff down lol. I still need to get Jon’s solo stuff. Metal will never die at Planet6Strings 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 You definitely need to hear "'Tage Mahal". Could've easily followed "Hall of the Mountain King".
It sounds really hard to get 🤣
Salut Darcy.Nice video.I'm not a big Savatage fan.Hall of the mountain King is a good album and my favorite of them.Fight for the rock n°8.Wow.This album is just unlistenable for me.
I’m glad you like that one, it seems to be a lot of people’s favourite 🤘 Thanks as always Francis
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 😃👍
I DO NOT agree with your ranking, but anyone doing a Savatage ranking deserves my attention!
I am not through the video yet...
But the top 2 better be Gutter Ballet and Streets...
That is all!!!
PS - Jealous of the vinyl collection!!
Did you finish watching ? We good now lol. The two you mentioned I do love, the ranking reflects that! Yes I’m happy to have these on vinyl, the reissues are very well done. Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
I agree criss olive under rated guitar player what a loss there sound was killer for early metal seen 80s rule 🤘
His guitar tone was something special! R.I.P. Criss Oliva 🎸
That Sirens cover would look good anywhere in the house, now I just need to convince my wife of that! “Look at our new painting honey” 😂 Cheers Aaron
Did you see the ratt boxset coming out ?
Oh yeah I did lol … ordered ✔️ I always appreciate you mentioning stuff like that! Thank you 🤘
I remembered you said something about you would like to see a ratt boxset so I saw it and remember of you
Ok now I’m hoping for a Twisted Sister one so keep your eyes open 😂
Will do captain
I am a die hard Savatage fan. First I had the ep and after that i bought most of their albums. Gutter Ballet and The Hall of the
Mountain King are my favorites. The live album Ghost in the Ruins is so good!
You will see that live album in my next update, I just picked up the brand new reissue a few weeks ago! Fantastic live album! It’s a must have for any Savatage fan. Thanks for watching 🤘 Cheers from Canada
Jon Oliva stepping back from the microphone was such a disappointment.
Gutter ballet? Really.
Great band
@@josecarbajal1748 I literally just wrote their name down, I’m planning a video : Metal In 2025, A Look Ahead. Hoping to see their new album Curtain Call come out in 2025. Thanks for watching 🤘 Stay Heavy ~ Darcy
