I own a half Maine Coon... as for the "as close to a dog as you can get in cat form" thats terrifyingly true... he is more of a dog than my Husky lab mix is. he is 20lbs (not overweight) and refuses to play at all ever unless I throw a tiny ball he can go retrieve for me... ... seriously. He is the most cuddlie cat I have ever owned, seen, or even heard of, as if he could he would sit in my lap and never, ever, leave... he cuddles with me all night usually near my feet (a dangerous place in my case) but sometimes he takes the easy route and comes up and cuddles in my armpit while my arm is extended holding my head at the perfect level... this usually wakes me up at some point as I choke on that signature long coat you see here... He is the single best cat I have ever owned, he is 9 and I am glad cats are long lived because it gives me time to figure out what I will do when he goes as I do not know if I have ever been so emotionally attached and entangled with anyone in my entire life (including my parents and siblings yes.)
I have a Maine coon and he’s definitely like a dog 😂 very cuddly, follows commands, likes going outside, wants to meet other dogs outside or other cats inside etc
That cat was wildly tolerant. My orange tabby Would growl over just toenails trimmed, never mind washing. In all honesty, you don’t need to bathe cats if you brush them on a continuous basis. The knots are different, you can get them no matter how much brushing you do for a cat.
For anyone curious, cutting a cat's nails is not only safe, for indoor cars it can be a necessity. Their nails can grow into their paw pads, and older cats are not good at removing the dead parts of their nails, which can lead to infection. Declawing, on the other hand, is a permanently disfiguring procedure where the first joint of each digit of the paw is completely removed. It's the equivalent of having each of your fingers cut off beyond the first knuckle. Declawing can lead to early onset arthritis in cats and make them more aggressive because their main defense tactic has been taken away. Please cut your cat's nails, but don't declaw!
Another thing on why clipping nails is necessary. With the way the nails grow if the cats don't actively scratch to wear them down and you don't trim them, they can snag and rip off very painfully. But if you are new to trimming research how to do it properly so you don't hurt them by cutting too much and making them bleed! Also totally 2nd that about NOT declawing your cat! My family did it to all our cats while I was growing up because they didn't know better and the internet wasn't really prevalent. When we got it done to our black male, he had an absolutely horrible time healing and has never had confidence the same way again. We took his main means of defense away from him and he felt vulnerable ever sense.
I’m no cat owner, but is it true that some owners cut too much of their cat’s claws? I’ve heard of some owners cutting too deep into their cat’s claws, which could basically be the equivalent as cutting off a big chunk of a human’s nail bed?
@@s_spiritstar yes, that is correct. There's a nerve and blood rich structure called the "quick" in both dog and cat's nails. If you cut that, it will bleed and hurt. However, in cats especially, it's very easy to see if you look at the nail from the side. It looks like a pink copy of the shape of their nail. As long as you don't cut that, you're good.
My elderly Maine Coon cat has a rug on the kitchen floor. He sits there daily in expectation of being combed. It is part of the daily ritual after breakfast. He has always had too much fur to take care of it himself, and now, that he is close to 15, I think he relies on me for most of his grooming. As the groomer said, they do mat under the arms and on the belly and this can happen pretty quickly. His brother, who is no longer with us, had belly fur that I can only compare to sheep wool with a laye of longer strands of silky fur over top. It was really odd and matted super easily. He was the most gorgeous cat I had ever seen and he may have been stolen.

@@oisinmaccumhaill7037 I don't agree on that, I think it rather depends on the cat or the dog itself, if they are nervous/afraid, has a history with violence etc. At least throughout my experience, I've only been scratched and bit when I deserved it, either than that it is generally warning bites or a slap without claws extended.
The cone of shame! We had to do this to take care of an abscess on one of our meezers. Of course, it was sore, so any time we had to touch it, he got very bitey. We learned fast that he couldn't actually bite us if he was wearing the cone. So we put it on, shaved the base of his tail (where the abscess was, so we could actually see it through all the fluff) and did what we needed to do. He recovered quickly and is fine now.
Such a tolerant cat! One of my cats bit straight through the cone of shame, the other had the vet calling me after ten minutes saying "she's actively trying to murder us, do I have your permission to sedate her?"
I've had a lot of cats with that outlook. My current cats are a needy placid furball, and a petty shadow forged of the purest spite who like pets sometimes
At least you didn’t have your cat shit twice at the groomers from diarrhea (he had megacolon, and we were having to give him laxitives. It’s also why he had to be shaved since lots of long hair can be a cause of megacolon)
I worked for a vet several years ago. We had a Maine Coon that would come in once a month named Christmas. We could put him in the tub and he would sit until time for his bath, dogs in and out, lots of activities and he would patiently wait. He was such an awesome guy.
I appreciate you being honest about the animals behavior. As a dog sitter I come across a lot of owners that have no clue that their dog is aggressive in certain situations because previous sitters tell them, "oh they were fine". I'm always honest with the owners. Sometimes they blame me or don't believe me which is frustrating but it is what it is.
Some owners are like a lot of parents these days - their little darling is never to be criticized and is always wonderful. They are offended to be told otherwise. That said, unless I would wind up in the ER from an attack, I admit, I lie like a rug to the owner if their dog is a pill or nailed me. That is because I once worked in a shop where someone's dog nipped the owner of the shop. No big deal but on pick up the shop owner did casually mention the nip. She wasn't upset about it, dogs will be dogs, a little H2O2 and a bandaid and she was fine. Happens all the time. The owner didn't comment about the nipping, paid for the groom, loaded the dog in the car, took the dog to the vet and put the dog down. We were told about it after the fact and were horrified. The owner told us he absolutely would not keep a dog that bit a human for any reason. Any dog that did so, end of the trail for that pooch. After that, I have never admitted to any owner their dog nipped me.
@@DoubleDogDare54 I better not write any of the names that came to my mind for this person... A little nip (where injuries are usually just accidents since humans are more delicate than other dogs) for a dog is just an "I really don't like that and would really appreciate if you stop", totally normal communcation. Even if it's more serious, it usually just because they are really scared from an unfamiliar situation and just panic. Even humans usually get free or a slap for the wrist for something like that! As long you don't need stitches or have any body parts missing, it wasn't a "bite" at all.
maine coon cats arent considered full grown till at least three years, but they dont generally fully fill out until their fourth or fifth year. this little fella has a lot of growing and filling out to do.
the one year old main coon is a young cat. Main coons get full maturity at 4 years old. that cat has 3 more years to grow. Main coon cats grow very slowly.

Trimming is not 'maintenance' for a cat, if you had any idea about a cats anatomy you would know that their claws do not grow outwardly from the tip so even if they weren't allowed enough exercise their claws wouldn't overgrow like some animals. A cats claws split down the centre and old layers break off from each side. The only reason people trim cats claws is for the owners sake and isnt necessary. Cats look after their own claws by simply climbing and scratching on trees and self grooming.
Noted. If I ever have an indoor car I will cut my cat's nails.
@@h.s.6269 Yes, absolutely! Learn where the quick is before you start!

My current cat would have eaten her face, even with a cone in place! Wow - she did well!
Right 😅
My Coon hisses at our Vet too, but I know damn well he wouldn't do shit 😂
I love watching the miserable creatures be humiliated. Cats are such vile things.
When he wore cone of shame he looked like he was regretting his life decision
Love your commentary while grooming cats, hilarious!
Cat: bites
Groomer: * cone of shame*
Cat: wait that’s illegal
She is cutting the cat's nails incorrectly and she actually thinks it's right
I appreciate you being honest about the animals behavior. As a dog sitter I come across a lot of owners that have no clue that their dog is aggressive in certain situations because previous sitters tell them, "oh they were fine". I'm always honest with the owners. Sometimes they blame me or don't believe me which is frustrating but it is what it is.
I would want to know so it could be addressed.
@@DoubleDogDare54 that poor dog!
@@DoubleDogDare54 Maybe someone should put that owner down.

"so I put his royal highness in the cone of shame"
Ok I’m sorry but he’s full grown and this is how he reacts on his FIRST GROOMING APPOINTMENT?! that’s one good boy!!! ❤️
that kitty's like someone kill her before she drowns me with all this water🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
maine coon cats arent considered full grown till at least three years, but they dont generally fully fill out until their fourth or fifth year. this little fella has a lot of growing and filling out to do.
He still has 2 or 3 years of growing to do! Maine coons are fully grown between 3 to 4 years old
the one year old main coon is a young cat. Main coons get full maturity at 4 years old. that cat has 3 more years to grow. Main coon cats grow very slowly.
He’s still got a lot of growing to do. They reach full size within 4 years of being born, much longer than a dog. Yeah, they get THAT big, and yet the breed is still healthy.
"He looks defeated and royally pissed off." Vanessa, that is an understatement. I think he's having the mother of existential crises, and can't decide whether to swat at you again, or try to bite once more, even though he's wearing the "Cone Of Shame".
Cat: *hisses*
Narrator: “All in all, he was a pretty tolerant cat”
Can you blame him? I mean I don't like getting my hair cut how would it feel for an animal who isn't used to it?
He was considerably more tolerable than most other cats.
I see that as very tolerant, remembering my experiences with bathing my cats 🤣
But it's true, he was 🤷🏻♀️
He’s definitely way more tolerant than my cats
I just wanted to say you're doing an excelent job! I'm a former Maine coon cattery owner and I know how hard it can be to work with those cats sometimes. They have fur that easly gets matted and grooming them is a task for two people at least sometimes! This cat is extremely calm and well behaved and this shows how great you are at what you're doing!
We think our cat is part Maine coon, at 4.5yrs & 21 lbs. his videos,,,,, MOST hugged cat in the world,,, show his calm big personality. His videos show how he handles a 3yr old little girl. His 1st time swimming was a motorhome camping trip at the Colorado river. I dipped his back legs then his front legs. then held him by his belly as I dipped him all the way in the water. Picked him back up gave him some Huggs, put him back in and let go, he let out 2 DRAMMA meows, wife has it on video, then when he could touch ground, he let me throw water on him to wet all of him.
I'm shocked that he did not sing you the song of his people during his bath. Maine Coon's are normally very chatty and mine is very much a drama queen about being bathed.
I know my Norwegian Forest Cat does that every time I groom her or bathe her. It’s meow yowl yowl marrroooowwww!!! Her meowjesty doesn’t appreciate it at all
Mine just cries about everything like being pet anywhere that isn’t the head or having water in the blue bowl instead of the metal bowl
@@aylazelanagrebiel3210 That's what mine does. Like I'm killing her and like she will not poke her head around the shower curtain if I don't lock her out of the bathroom while I shower.
How much was ur cat

"So I put his Royal Highness in the cone of shame."
The cats face is just pure defeat haha
Trimming a cats claws is perfectly safe and doesn’t harm the cat at all if you avoid the quick, which is the pink part. Declawing a cat is amputating part of a cats finger at the first knuckle. It’s inhumane and cruel
And saves the furniture! 🤣
@@texknight67 I thought that it would make them want to attack the furniture more, to take the outer layers off to the lower sharper layer of claw?I
Edit: autocorrect
@@kit5625 I don't think they can sharpen their claws as much as shave off the top layers to reveal newer bottom ones. if you clip them, I don't think they can get back to sharp claws for a while
My cat would rather remove my first knuckle then ever let me trim her claws XD
@@simonphoenix3789 oh! ok, thx for the info
Jackson's facial expression when she said she'd missed matting in his groin just kills me, he's like 'Oh, FLUFF no!'
I love the fact that she told his owners about his behavior, the whole interaction sounded like a kid and their parent being called to the principals office 🤣🤣🤣
I do so hope that Jaxon has been found safe and well and that he is back with his owners.
