The enemy of a cat is someone who knows their business. I cannot clip my cats claws. I've known vets who need two others to help to clip her claws. Then I found a vet with an assistant that just flips her over, clip-clip-clip done in seconds. My cat was so shocked, she didn't make a sound, just looked at me with utter horror that she'd been so thoroughly out-played.
My papillon and I once stayed with a friend who had a young cat. The cat and my dog liked to play, but I was worried the cat would accidentally hurt my dog with his claws, so one day while my friend was at work, I clipped all the claws. When she got home, I said, "I clipped his claws; hope that's okay." She just STARED at me for a minute and then said, "HOW? I need to wrap him in a towel and have someone else hold him while I clip them!" I think sometimes when someone relatively unfamiliar to the cat just matter-of-factly grabs them and quickly and efficiently does what needs to be done, the cat is too surprised to react, haha.
I just got some 15 year olds and they're not used to being groomed/had the previous owners trained not to groom them. Well. They're not impressed we didn't seem to get that message and get the things they hate done before they have a chance to get the teeth out. Honestly every sine cat I've encountered just want you to be fast, to stop quickly, and to have treats at the ready, with quick being the primary concern

Thankfully my fat cat lets me clean it out if i promise not to bathe her cuz that crap can get infected esp as they get older. Alot of dog breeds have that issue as well.

incredible how forgiving how Loki is. He'll scream at you and then immediately turn back around and let you scratch his face. If I shaved my cat's butt, he would avoid me for weeks
My cat is pretty forgiving too, she gets upset after grooming or getting her claws cut down but she usually calms down after less than an hour and cuddles up with us.
Loki is an absolutely beautiful feline, and so typical in the tub. A good educational video for owners to learn about the importance of keeping your pets groomed and clean. 😅

Cats don't forget that Is something I remember after accidentally standing on ones tail. It got me 3 days later with a strait paw to my left side of my jaw. I did not react at first as I was relived it got me when I was awake rather than asleep. Needless to say no more standing on tails and no more catslaps from Thomas my best buddy.
He peed on himself hoping that she wouldn’t groom him bc of the smell. He didn’t know that earned him a bath. He’s all clean I bet he slept good being mat free.
He peed on himself because he was scared and that's how cats cope. He got himself covered in pee because most animals aren't intelligent enough to maintain hygienic awareness outside of instinctual grooming habits. Being that he had never been groomed before he obviously had no idea what was in store and I doubt he will behave differently in the future even if he recognized that he felt more comfortable after the grooming.
As a lifetime cat owner that has been a groomer, let me say that this was a wonderful display of experience, care and talent - cat handling can be tricky but your calm demeanour helped loki loads.
@@theluscioussound we're all human - cat handling in pet grooming is difficult and this video is only a tiny snapshot of her entire working day/week and so on. If you'd rather an emotionless machine do the job, put a pet in a washing machine and see what happens 🤣

Indeed, anger is a normal, and NEEDED emotion to have and experience. Learning that anger is a HEALTHY, NORMAL emotion is vital to a HEALTHY, NORMAL human being. People yelling is a real thing. It's going to happen, and pretending to be some abnormal automaton with only "happy" emotions is sick. It's only when you accept it that you can learn how to deal with it in a healthy manner that doesn't kill you of a stress induced heart attack at 40.

He is pretty angry, but it's for a good reason! He only started yelling, swiping and threatening to bite after he repeatedly tried to tell her nicely with body language, miaowing and warning moves with a soft paw. As she said, he's a very good kitty! :-)
I had a cat who was almost identical to Loki. His matting was horrendous as the prior owner was lazy and neglectful. After fighting with him the first few times, I decided to go all-in with a full body shave just as the heat of summer kicked in. He wasn’t a happy boy that day, but the day after he turned into an utter mush pot! He LOVED being bare and rolled around purring in the grass and snuggling me like I was the best thing that ever happened! :D
Loki was really actually good during this entire groom, his butt just hurt from all the matting pulling on his skin, and the groomer (even though she was doing everything right) is still a stranger to him. From knowing my cats, he'll feel so much better in the next few days and butt rubs will we welcomed lol.
If owners would just brush their cats more it wouldn't get that way. I have a short haired, but extremely thick and bushy cat and the fur down her back towards her tail will get matted if I don't brush her. So..I relax in the evening, watch my youtube and just hold out the brush while my cat prances back and forth underneath it. She hated the cat brushes, so I got a round human brush with bristles and it takes out the under coat. She loves it, she'll even bring it to me. She's an indoor cat so responsible for her own bathing; I just have to be the dutiful servant and hold out the brush. She even loves her pantaloons brushed.

I disagree. I don't think that she knew where to draw lines with as angry as he clearly got. She didn't respect his levels of tolerance at several points throughout the process. Had she done so, he wouldn't have reacted quite as loudly as he did. He was CLEARLY very angry and YOU are clearly very WRONG.

@@MMumbles - Also, for the record, I'm VERY aware of the matting issues. My big, orange boy (Whom I miss terribly EVERY day...) had TERRIBLE mats that were so bad that we had to put him under anesthesia to shave them off at the vet once every 9-12 months. It was painful to see him that way. I can only imagine how much it hurt HIM. But we never YELLED at him when trying to groom him. We backed off and let him determine when HE needed a break. Then we'd try again later in the day. She yelled at him. THAT is where she crosses the line.

My cat is pretty forgiving too, she gets upset after grooming or getting her claws cut down but she usually calms down after less than an hour and cuddles up with us.
If I TRIED to shave my cat's butt I'd have shredded arms from her teeth (she was a rescue and already had declawed front paws)

Cats don't forget that Is something I remember after accidentally standing on ones tail. It got me 3 days later with a strait paw to my left side of my jaw. He peed on himself because he was scared and that's how cats cope. He got himself covered in pee because most animals aren't intelligent enough to maintain hygienic awareness outside of instinctual grooming habits. Being that he had never been groomed before he obviously had no idea what was in store and I doubt he will behave differently in the future even if he recognized that he felt more comfortable after the grooming.

As a lifetime cat owner that has been a groomer, let me say that this was a wonderful display of experience, care and talent - cat handling can be tricky but your calm demeanour helped loki loads.

@@sathos as much as i love her, she is still a professional and should know animals don’t like being yelled at. being yelled at only causes further anger and stress, it’s similar to an argument. caring and disciplining animals is like parenting, you can’t yell at your kids unless you want them super mad and upset.

Indeed, anger is a normal, and NEEDED emotion to have and experience. Learning that anger is a HEALTHY, NORMAL emotion is vital to a HEALTHY, NORMAL human being. People yelling is a real thing. It's going to happen, and pretending to be some abnormal automaton with only "happy" emotions is sick.
It's only when you accept it that you can learn how to deal with it in a healthy manner that doesn't kill you of a stress induced heart attack at 40.

This cat is not angry at all, he is in fact quite tolerant and gentle (for a cat).
He is pretty angry, but it's for a good reason! He only started yelling, swiping and threatening to bite after he repeatedly tried to tell her nicely with body language, miaowing and warning moves with a soft paw. As she said, he's a very good kitty! :-)

I had a cat who was almost identical to Loki. His matting was horrendous as the prior owner was lazy and neglectful. After fighting with him the first few times, I decided to go all-in with a full body shave just as the heat of summer kicked in. He wasn’t a happy boy that day, but the day after he turned into an utter mush pot! He LOVED being bare and rolled around purring in the grass and snuggling me like I was the best thing that ever happened! :D

Loki was really actually good during this entire groom, his butt just hurt from all the matting pulling on his skin, and the groomer (even though she was doing everything right) is still a stranger to him. From knowing my cats, he'll feel so much better in the next few days and butt rubs will we welcomed lol.

If owners would just brush their cats more it wouldn't get that way. I have a short haired, but extremely thick and bushy cat and the fur down her back towards her tail will get matted if I don't brush her. So..I relax in the evening, watch my youtube and just hold out the brush while my cat prances back and forth underneath it. She hated the cat brushes, so I got a round human brush with bristles and it takes out the under coat. She loves it, she'll even bring it to me. She's an indoor cat so responsible for her own bathing; I just have to be the dutiful servant and hold out the brush. She even loves her pantaloons brushed.

I disagree. I don't think that she knew where to draw lines with as angry as he clearly got. She didn't respect his levels of tolerance at several points throughout the process. Had she done so, he wouldn't have reacted quite as loudly as he did.

@@MMumbles - Also, for the record, I'm VERY aware of the matting issues. My big, orange boy (Whom I miss terribly EVERY day...) had TERRIBLE mats that were so bad that we had to put him under anesthesia to shave them off at the vet once every 9-12 months.
It was painful to see him that way. I can only imagine how much it hurt HIM.
But we never YELLED at him when trying to groom him. We backed off and let him determine when HE needed a break. Then we'd try again later in the day.
