He’s gorgeous. As the proud owner of a Siberian cat once upon a time, I learned that by having a pair of small embroidery scissors within reach whereever he lay down and chilled out, I could split most of the mats with my hands, and very, *very* carefully clip out the ones that I couldn’t. It worked out fine for us for the 10 years I was allowed to have him in my life. ❤

I do that with my Maine Coon mix. I think he was feral at some point, even though he's extremely friendly, and he doesn't allow brushing. He usually takes care of matting himself, but I have to stealthily remove the mats on his belly.

@@indigowolf556 just be really, really careful. Cat skin is so darn easy to nick, but a sharp, narrow blade I found does all the difference. I could usually, like, tunnel my finger under the mat, so I was *absolutely* sure I didn’t cut anywhere near skin.

They are tall, have big feet, have long bodies, and are recognized by their gorgeous tails. I used call my M.C. "Mr. Teddy Feathertail". At his prime, he reached 32 pounds! I kid you not! He was healthy, not obese and the vet had his picture up in his office for years. I love big cats. The bigger the better. So loving and affectionate. I brushed him daily for 30-45 minutes to keep all that long, long hair clean and unmatted. We lived in an orchard and took two long daily walks. He always came back loaded with grass, sticks, leaves and bit 'n bobs that had to be brushed out. I miss him more than words can say. Cats really don't like being in unfamiliar environments. Part of all that was the cat not understanding his new environment, The lady said Zeus jumped off the table. Once Zeus got a look around at everything ground level, that probably relaxed him. If it were me, I would leave the cat alone in the room with it's owner for 15 minutes, and let it explore around before trying to groom it.
It would knock down at least 15% of it's grooming anxiety, possibly more..

Wanna be careful of exposed bellies with cats. It's often less "hello yes I want to be friends" in stressful situations, and more "I will put all four sets of claws in a primed position." It's all fine and dandy on the surface if the animal happens to not care, but any sign of resistance and first you will be hooded, then scolded and shamed or bribed with food and sweet words, then muzzled, then a bubble over your head, then put in a harness and suspended in the air. @@misteral9045 good pet owners understand that consent is best, but we don't wait for babies to be comfy before we change their diapers because they will very quickly be in extreme discomfort and I'll if we do not. Same with illness in kids. Not grooming leads to illness and often is the result of illness on top of it and will lead to the fast decline and death of many animals especially those bred to require grooming. I agree that nobody should have bred animals to need that, and that it's not ideal, but we don't live in a world where we can all understand animals well enough to communicate with them about how serious and necessary to their quality and quantity of life this is.
As a child of extremely controlling abusive parents I get why you'd be so stuck in this.l thinking. We also live in a culture that is very anti-consent.
AND good people do have to choose between bad and worse things in the world. It's bad to go without consent but it's worse to let someone get hurt because you won't swallow the tough stuff and do what's right for them even if it's not what either of you would prefer.
Evil people make things bad no matter the context, it's a choice they continually make, much like good people. The difference is how we go about it and what is preserved.

This coloration is called Black Smoke, white roots underneath a black outer coat. The white shows differently in different breeds depending on how their coats are configured. Actually, a cat of any color can be a smoke because it's defined by having the white roots under any other color. If you look at Felis Gallery the photographer that has that page has a whole houseful of Maine Coons, including quite the collection of black smokes. I learned to groom my Siberian Forest cat by watching your channel. She gets brushed every day with a variety of brushes, claws trimmed once a week, and a sanitary trim once a month. I do sometimes have to shave out mats because she won’t let me brush certain areas regularly. Whenever I use the trimmers it takes two people and a wet treat to keep her from going slasher flick on us. Your skills continue to impress. I am so thankful for these cat grooming videos because I would have been lost without them.

Honestly the equigroomer is the best purchase I've ever made for my cat, she has gorgeous black fur but doesn't care for being brushes, but she goes WILD for it and it's helped to keep her shedding under control. It's at a point where she jumps up every morning and EXPECTS and demands some equigrooming and gets fussy if she doesn't get it. Top tier product, I recommend it to anyone with cats

I've got an MC girl and she is the gentlest cat I've ever had. She learned how to control he claws really well as a kitten and the only times I come out of even roughhousing with her (Which she loves!) is when she/I catch her dew claw. She's also the most people oriented cat I've had, and immediately investigated people who come in.
A truly fantastic breed. I just hope breeders don't go for size over temperament and ruin it.

I was worried at first because he hated being brushed, but once he realized that it's basically just being pet with 100 tiny fingers, he decided it's actually the best thing ever and will walk up to me for attention when he sees me grab the brush. @@sylvisterling8782it is likely you may have intended your comment to be helpful and not in a snarky way. However, generally speaking, correcting people’s grammar in an informal context like social media with folks that don’t know you and vice versa more often than not comes off in a negative way. It is seen as nitpicky and pedantic, due to possibly perceiving you as one of those “grammar nazis” who are inconsiderate and overlook other people’s meaning in favor of criticizing their written form in order to implicitly or explicitly undermine their intelligence (and the claim that poor spelling = poor schooling/intellect is false, but I have seen people legitimately argue that due to someone’s grammar mistake, that means their entire argument is invalid (if conversing in a debate), even if the argument has nothing to do with English writing).
If you must, there are two ways to go about this that may show people your positive intention (if that is true): 1) have your comment also address what they are saying in their post in a positive way (“I agree…” or “I think what you said is interesting because…”) either before or after the grammatical point, and 2) perhaps more importantly, adjust tone. “In case you may find it helpful, [insert grammar correction]” or “Just a minor note, [insert grammar correction],” etc. Ideally, utilize both points 1 and 2 the next time you feel obliged to correct someone’s grammar in a similar informal context. Otherwise, I would put slightly more emphasis on adjusting tone

Just be aware that they're not the most intelligent breed. They end up in situations you wouldn't have thought to be possible. That's also why they make a better house cat. They trust everyone and everything. No care in the world.

Great job grooming! Very empathic handling. So nice to see he eventually relaxed and laid down, even accepting belly work. This made a fun-to-watch video. What a gorgeous cat! Not all Maine Coons have such long ear tufts.
I would be interested to know how much time he spends outdoors, if any.
I just discovered your channel and subscribed.

I can see why he's named Zeus, those ear fringes are god-level 🥹 Great job with this divine creature as always!

After 16 years of TNR and rescue work, and having a 3 year old 12% MaineCoon mix, I finally have a full pure one being added to our family soon! Can't wait till mid October!! He's a black smoke just like Zeus though his 3 week old pic obviously doesn't show that quite yet lol.

At first I thought he may be a polydactyl… then realized he just had some extra-magnificent paw floof! What a sweet, sweet boy Zeus is!

Not all polydactyls have mittens - this guy has what we call hamburgers, just big flat feet with 6 or 7 toes!

@@carey7858 We also have a black smoke male poly MC; he's poly on all 4 feet, which I believe is referred to as 4-wheel drive! We've had ones with mittens before, but like Zeus, Hugo's are just big hamburgers. He's a gorgeous boy, and has that soft, sweet MC temperament. We have had ours clipped into a lion cut a few times - the feel of his fur growing back is truly like crushed velvet.
